england_n and_o especial_o in_o the_o city_n of_o london_n and_o it_o be_v very_o like_a to_o be_v so_o because_o they_o be_v there_o at_o the_o time_n of_o your_o service_n for_o neither_o the_o separate_v nor_o semiseparate_v as_o you_o call_v they_o use_v to_o be_v there_o at_o the_o time_n of_o your_o service_n for_o aught_o i_o know_v and_o these_o professor_n you_o have_v also_o call_v idle_a and_o busybody_n tatler_n also_o as_o it_o be_v say_v 1_o tim._n 5._o 13._o very_o wanton_a in_o their_o wit_n say_v you_o affect_v novelty_n in_o religion_n and_o like_v of_o point_n that_o be_v not_o establish_v nor_o common_o hold_v and_o these_o you_o say_v be_v many_o of_o the_o professor_n *_o 30._o and_o in_o your_o second_o reason_n against_o toleration_n pag._n 24._o you_o say_v mocker_n which_o paul_n testify_v shall_v come_v in_o the_o last_o time_n that_o shall_v be_v heady_a and_o high_a mind_v and_o proud_a boaster_n and_o despiser_n of_o authority_n for_o such_o as_o these_o have_v not_o the_o power_n of_o godliness_n and_o by_o this_o you_o make_v your_o church_n a_o foul_a church_n and_o defile_v shrewd_o your_o own_o nest_n and_o make_v it_o appear_v to_o all_o man_n that_o you_o live_v in_o a_o cage_n of_o unclean_a bird_n and_o therefore_o you_o be_v command_v from_o such_o to_o turn_v aside_o *_o 5._o if_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n be_v in_o your_o heart_n moreover_o you_o say_v you_o fear_v they_o will_v not_o tolerate_v the_o government_n establish_v by_o the_o ecclesiastical_a and_o civil_a law_n and_o you_o will_v feign_v father_n the_o cause_n of_o this_o your_o fear_n upon_o separate_v and_o independency_n whereas_o you_o can_v be_v so_o ignorant_a but_o that_o you_o must_v know_v that_o the_o government_n establish_v by_o law_n may_v stand_v without_o the_o leave_n of_o separate_v for_o they_o have_v neither_o power_n to_o give_v toleration_n nor_o to_o prohibit_v toleration_n for_o or_o against_o any_o thing_n but_o you_o say_v you_o will_v rather_o pray_v against_o toleration_n than_o prophecy_n of_o the_o woeful_a effeâ—ts_n of_o it_o i_o answer_v if_o you_o can_v make_v such_o a_o prayer_n in_o a_o time_n acceptable_a then_o sometime_o such_o prayer_n will_v be_v accept_v which_o be_v not_o ground_v upon_o god_n word_n but_o of_o the_o woeful_a effect_n of_o toleration_n you_o have_v prophesy_v already_o in_o that_o you_o say_v they_o will_v withstand_v your_o doctrine_n and_o your_o due_n *_o 13._o and_o that_o will_v be_v a_o woeful_a effect_n indeed_o when_o you_o shall_v be_v drive_v to_o cry_v out_o alas_o alas_o that_o great_a city_n babylon_n for_o in_o one_o hour_n be_v so_o great_a wealth_n come_v to_o desolation_n thus_o much_o for_o your_o seven_o reason_n in_o your_o eight_o reason_n you_o affirm_v as_o you_o and_o all_o your_o fellow_n do_v here_o but_o if_o it_o have_v be_v so_o i_o think_v it_o be_v because_o they_o have_v here_o in_o england_n take_v upon_o they_o a_o oath_n of_o conformity_n as_o you_o have_v sometime_o do_v and_o because_o the_o tyranny_n of_o the_o prelate_n be_v so_o mighty_a against_o all_o good_a man_n that_o they_o be_v fain_o to_o go_v away_o private_o prove_v of_o my_o own_o knowledge_n and_o if_o they_o have_v banish_v any_o out_o of_o their_o parent_n that_o be_v neither_o disturber_n of_o the_o peace_n of_o the_o land_n nor_o the_o worship_n practise_v in_o the_o land_n i_o be_o persuade_v it_o be_v their_o weakness_n and_o i_o hope_v they_o will_v never_o attempt_v to_o do_v the_o like_a but_o i_o be_o still_o persuade_v they_o do_v it_o will_v not_o admit_v into_o fellowship_n those_o that_o will_v not_o enter_v into_o their_o covenant_n and_o profess_v faith_n and_o submit_v to_o their_o church_n order_n though_o they_o will_v be_v of_o their_o church_n i_o think_v you_o have_v strange_a evasion_n but_o i_o pray_v you_o answer_v i_o to_o these_o two_o question_n the_o first_o be_v how_o man_n of_o year_n of_o discretion_n may_v by_o the_o rule_n of_o god_n word_n be_v admit_v into_o fellowship_n and_o not_o profess_v their_o faith_n second_o how_o man_n may_v be_v account_v to_o be_v of_o the_o church_n and_o not_o submit_v unto_o the_o order_n of_o the_o church_n see_v that_o the_o apostle_n paul_n have_v these_o two_o thing_n to_o rejoice_v in_o the_o behold_n of_o the_o saint_n steadfast_a faith_n and_o comely_a order_n in_o the_o church_n but_o you_o say_v that_o these_o man_n who_o will_v fain_o have_v a_o toleration_n in_o this_o great_a kingdom_n will_v not_o allow_v any_o in_o their_o small_a particular_a congregation_n true_o mr._n edwards_n it_o be_v good_a for_o you_o to_o labour_v to_o understand_v the_o mind_n and_o will_n of_o god_n for_o yourself_o and_o have_v charity_n towards_o your_o brethren_n and_o hope_v well_o that_o they_o have_v so_o much_o knowledge_n of_o the_o lord_n will_v that_o they_o will_v not_o plead_v for_o such_o a_o absurdity_n as_o to_o set_v up_o one_o church_n within_o another_o and_o so_o make_v a_o schism_n but_o the_o toleration_n they_o plead_v for_o be_v that_o god_n true_a worship_n may_v be_v set_v up_o in_o the_o kingdom_n by_o those_o that_o understand_v what_o it_o be_v and_o that_o by_o the_o sufferance_n of_o the_o governor_n and_o that_o it_o shall_v be_v settle_v in_o a_o peaceable_a way_n which_o will_v be_v far_o from_o disturb_v the_o peace_n of_o three_o kingdom_n as_o you_o invectively_o speak_v but_o to_o set_v up_o a_o congregation_n in_o a_o congregation_n will_v be_v confusion_n even_o as_o to_o set_v up_o one_o kingdom_n within_o another_o the_o next_o thing_n you_o charge_v they_o with_o be_v that_o they_o be_v partial_a by_o a_o supposition_n of_o your_o own_o for_o you_o say_v it_o be_v ordinary_a for_o man_n when_o they_o be_v not_o in_o place_n nor_o have_v no_o power_n in_o church_n or_o commonwealth_n and_o hold_v also_o doâ—rines_n and_o principle_n contrary_a to_o what_o be_v hold_v and_o establish_v to_o plead_v for_o toleration_n but_o when_o the_o same_o man_n come_v to_o have_v place_n and_o power_n say_v you_o they_o will_v not_o tolerate_v other_o and_o you_o say_v that_o you_o do_v believe_v that_o these_o be_v the_o man_n which_o now_o endeavour_n a_o toleration_n to_o this_o i_o answer_v you_o may_v do_v well_o to_o let_v this_o belief_n of_o you_o be_v no_o article_n of_o your_o faith_n because_o it_o stand_v upon_o no_o ground_n for_o though_o a_o man_n may_v hope_v the_o best_a and_o fear_v the_o worst_a yet_o he_o may_v believe_v nothing_o but_o what_o he_o up_o in_o the_o land_n to_o bring_v man_n out_o of_o darkness_n to_o light_n but_o leave_v that_o to_o the_o judgement_n of_o they_o which_o have_v the_o power_n even_o the_o king_n and_o parliament_n thus_o much_o for_o your_o eight_o reason_n in_o your_o nine_o reason_n you_o affirm_v that_o toleration_n may_v he_o demand_v upon_o the_o same_o ground_n for_o brownist_n anabaptist_n and_o familist_n and_o other_o who_o profess_v it_o be_v their_o conscience_n to_o which_o i_o answer_v that_o see_v you_o plead_v for_o they_o i_o may_v well_o hold_v my_o peace_n but_o i_o think_v the_o the_o church_n from_o which_o they_o separate_a but_o you_o here_o demand_v whether_o papist_n may_v not_o petition_v and_o have_v hope_n for_o toleration_n see_v it_o be_v their_o conscience_n to_o this_o i_o answer_v i_o know_v no_o reason_n why_o they_o may_v not_o petition_v and_o hope_v to_o speed_v also_o see_v they_o have_v many_o friend_n in_o the_o kingdom_n further_o you_o add_v that_o therefore_o you_o shall_v rather_o have_v say_v that_o in_o the_o belly_n of_o this_o dependency_n do_v lurk_v all_o liberty_n and_o heresy_n and_o whatsoever_o satan_n and_o the_o corrupt_a heart_n and_o though_o it_o be_v not_o in_o exsise_n for_o victual_n yet_o it_o be_v in_o some_o other_o way_n from_o which_o the_o subject_n of_o holland_n be_v free_v the_o next_o thing_n you_o affirm_v for_o it_o be_v sore_o against_o the_o people_n will_n that_o they_o pay_v they_o any_o thing_n now_o and_o it_o will_v be_v no_o wonder_n when_o it_o shall_v be_v make_v to_o appear_v what_o the_o of_o knowledge_n fear_v god_n and_o â—ating_a covetousness_n and_o void_a of_o all_o other_o scandal_n so_o far_o as_o we_o can_v judge_v by_o the_o scripture_n and_o that_o the_o ceremony_n may_v be_v remove_v and_o we_o enjoy_v as_o you_o brag_v all_o god_n ordinance_n with_o you_o as_o well_o as_o in_o our_o own_o church_n than_o you_o shall_v hear_v what_o i_o will_v say_v to_o you_o as_o well_o as_o the_o independent_a man_n but_o till_o all_o this_o be_v do_v you_o see_v there_o be_v still_o good_a reason_n for_o good_a man_n either_o to_o desire_v liberty_n or_o to_o leave_v the_o kingdom_n further_o you_o say_v some_o of_o they_o can_v take_v the_o charge_n of_o parochial_a church_n among_o you_o upon_o the_o reformation_n i_o answer_v indeed_o such_o a_o reformation_n which_o grant_v they_o to_o be_v true_a upon_o a_o reformation_n such_o as_o the_o word_n require_v i_o tell_v you_o for_o answer_v that_o this_o your_o juggle_n will_v not_o help_v you_o for_o no_o man_n
