business_n about_o which_o thou_o go_v put_v thou_o in_o mind_n to_o prepare_v thyself_o and_o thy_o soul_n and_o to_o tune_v it_o by_o these_o consideration_n to_o a_o humble_a frame_n of_o spirit_n to_o a_o forecast_v of_o thy_o desire_n to_o a_o humble_a approach_n to_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n to_o all_o beseem_a reverence_n both_o in_o thy_o word_n and_o gesture_n the_o heart_n it_o be_v true_a shall_v be_v in_o a_o continual_a frame_n of_o prayer_n and_o almost_o every_o occurrence_n of_o our_o life_n require_v a_o lift_n up_o of_o the_o heart_n to_o god_n in_o prayer_n or_o in_o thanksgiving_n which_o can_v be_v so_o order_v with_o preparation_n but_o a_o solemn_a prayer_n though_o in_o private_a require_v a_o just_a preparation_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o a_o performance_n of_o it_o with_o the_o whole_a contribution_n of_o the_o whole_a soul_n and_o strength_n and_o understanding_n and_o affection_n 3._o though_o thou_o be_v not_o bind_v to_o use_v no_o other_o form_n yet_o use_v this_o frequent_o upon_o these_o consideration_n 1._o it_o be_v the_o command_n of_o thy_o lord_n and_o master_n there_o be_v somewhat_o of_o command_n in_o these_o word_n he_o that_o command_v to_o pray_v after_o this_o manner_n mean_v not_o that_o this_o prayer_n shall_v be_v forget_v that_o which_o be_v make_v a_o pattern_n to_o thy_o other_o prayer_n be_v not_o intend_v to_o preservation_n from_o future_a inconvenience_n that_o be_v not_o yet_o in_o thy_o view_n and_o this_o prayer_n gather_v up_o thy_o omission_n call_v home_o thy_o spirit_n unto_o that_o frame_n and_o temper_n of_o heart_n that_o be_v fit_a viz._n submission_n to_o the_o will_n and_o glory_n of_o god_n in_o the_o first_o petition_n of_o this_o prayer_n furnish_v in_o a_o short_a compendium_n to_o pray_v over_o that_o which_o thou_o have_v before_o ask_v and_o to_o pray_v for_o that_o which_o before_o thou_o have_v omit_v 4._o as_o it_o be_v a_o comprehensive_a prayer_n and_o contain_v much_o so_o it_o be_v a_o compendious_a prayer_n and_o contain_v much_o in_o little_a the_o wise_a and_o merciful_a god_n know_v the_o frailty_n of_o our_o nature_n and_o therefore_o have_v fit_v we_o according_a to_o our_o own_o narrowness_n with_o abridgement_n he_o know_v the_o shortness_n of_o our_o memory_n and_o therefore_o he_o give_v his_o will_n under_o the_o old_a law_n in_o ten_o word_n christ_n he_o give_v we_o another_o abridgement_n of_o that_o abridgement_n love_n god_n and_o thy_o neighbour_n god_n also_o know_v the_o weakness_n of_o our_o spirit_n and_o therefore_o he_o give_v we_o a_o short_a prayer_n that_o in_o the_o use_n of_o it_o our_o spirit_n may_v bear_v up_o and_o the_o fire_n last_o till_o the_o prayer_n end_v it_o be_v true_a when_o we_o have_v a_o continue_a sense_n of_o evil_n feel_v or_o fear_v upon_o we_o our_o spirit_n be_v able_a to_o hold_v out_o a_o prayer_n long_o in_o warmth_n and_o heat_n but_o when_o the_o matter_n of_o our_o desire_n be_v fit_a to_o be_v ask_v and_o such_o as_o thy_o spirit_n may_v go_v along_o with_o to_o the_o end_n without_o be_v tire_v it_o be_v true_a that_o a_o man_n shall_v usual_o find_v more_o intention_n of_o spirit_n in_o his_o own_o prayer_n than_o in_o this_o bless_v god_n that_o thou_o have_v this_o intention_n of_o spirit_n in_o thy_o own_o prayer_n and_o neglect_v they_o not_o but_o pray_v for_o pardon_v that_o thou_o want_v it_o in_o this_o and_o strive_v to_o amend_v it_o now_o the_o great_a cause_n of_o the_o unprofitable_a use_n even_o of_o this_o prayer_n and_o of_o divers_a other_o ordinance_n grow_v from_o this_o that_o people_n use_v they_o without_o a_o distinct_a and_o deep_a consideration_n of_o the_o thing_n contain_v in_o they_o the_o sun_n in_o the_o firmament_n be_v the_o great_a wonder_n in_o the_o world_n and_o of_o infinite_a more_o consideration_n than_o the_o appearance_n of_o a_o new_a star_n or_o a_o comet_n but_o the_o commonness_n of_o the_o sun_n make_v mankind_n pass_v over_o that_o without_o any_o observation_n and_o yet_o look_v upon_o the_o latter_a with_o much_o admiration_n and_o astonishment_n just_o thus_o it_o be_v with_o this_o and_o other_o prayer_n this_o prayer_n be_v take_v up_o and_o learn_v with_o our_o speech_n we_o swallow_v by_o wholesale_n and_o never_o weigh_v it_o or_o consider_v it_o but_o other_o prayer_n of_o our_o own_o or_o other_o while_o they_o be_v new_a to_o we_o we_o use_v more_o attentive_o and_o it_o may_v be_v more_o profitable_o it_o shall_v therefore_o be_v our_o care_n to_o rub_v out_o the_o corn_n proportion_n answerable_a to_o their_o internal_a form_n and_o it_o be_v as_o impossible_a for_o a_o heart_n sensible_a of_o the_o majesty_n glory_n greatness_n and_o power_n of_o god_n to_o come_v before_o he_o either_o with_o a_o petulant_a saucy_a presumptuous_a or_o unseemly_a carriage_n as_o it_o be_v for_o the_o form_n of_o a_o lamb_n or_o a_o child_n to_o render_v itself_o either_o in_o the_o shape_n of_o a_o lion_n or_o a_o wolf_n again_o god_n be_v in_o heaven_n and_o thou_o upon_o earth_n as_o thou_o have_v a_o business_n to_o do_v to_o prepare_v thy_o heart_n with_o the_o sense_n of_o thy_o distance_n that_o thy_o desire_n may_v be_v with_o a_o suitable_a humility_n when_o thou_o pray_v so_o thou_o have_v need_v of_o preparation_n to_o bring_v up_o thy_o heart_n out_o of_o that_o earth_n wherein_o thou_o be_v unto_o heaven_n to_o defecate_v that_o earthy_a heart_n of_o thou_o that_o it_o may_v be_v fit_a to_o come_v into_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o god_n of_o heaven_n when_o god_n behold_v the_o high_a thing_n in_o nature_n the_o heaven_n he_o humble_v himself_o he_o descend_v below_o his_o own_o excellency_n psalm_n 113.6_o and_o if_o thou_o be_v a_o suitor_n to_o and_o perfection_n than_o man_n do_v because_o by_o the_o purity_n of_o their_o nature_n they_o have_v a_o near_a approach_n to_o the_o fountain_n of_o good_a than_o man_n have_v and_o the_o near_o or_o far_o off_o the_o spirit_n of_o a_o man_n
