practice_v of_o all_o christian_n since_o the_o very_a beginning_n of_o christianity_n so_o far_o as_o can_v be_v trace_v by_o history_n in_o all_o age_n in_o all_o place_n that_o these_o word_n our_o father_n etc._n etc._n as_o set_v down_o in_o st._n matthew_n and_o st._n luke_n be_v prescribe_v by_o our_o lord_n and_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n as_o a_o very_a form_n of_o prayer_n to_o be_v use_v by_o all_o profess_v christianity_n in_o those_o very_a word_n as_o a_o prayer_n yea_o or_o no_o a_o question_n of_o very_o great_a moment_n as_o i_o apprehend_v it_o the_o consequent_a or_o consequence_n whereof_o if_o the_o affirmative_a part_n of_o it_o be_v prove_v will_v be_v first_o that_o they_o who_o either_o by_o their_o example_n or_o persuasion_n bereave_v christian_n of_o it_o be_v guilty_a prayer_n be_v a_o thing_n of_o such_o consequence_n in_o religion_n of_o horrible_a detestable_a sacrilege_n and_o may_v seem_v themselves_o to_o other_o to_o renounce_v thereby_o to_o no_o small_a part_n of_o christianity_n we_o speak_v to_o and_o of_o profess_a minister_n only_o in_o all_o this_o discourse_n second_o whilst_o it_o may_v probable_o be_v conceive_v that_o a_o main_a of_o reason_n must_v be_v think_v to_o prefer_v before_o this_o form_n this_o form_n i_o say_v by_o such_o undeniable_a uncontrollable_a to_o common_a sense_n and_o find_v reason_n evidence_n of_o scripture_n make_v and_o prescribe_v by_o christ_n himself_o the_o son_n of_o god_n in_o who_o all_o the_o treasure_n of_o wisdom_n be_v hide_v etc._n etc._n hence_o it_o will_v follow_v that_o they_o clear_a against_o they_o and_o do_v much_o countenance_n the_o blasphemy_n of_o some_o papist_n in_o call_v they_o a_o nose_n of_o wax_n etc._n etc._n as_o also_o stop_v or_o obstruct_v their_o own_o mouth_n for_o ever_o speak_v against_o quaker_n and_o anabaptist_n who_o certain_o may_v pretend_v to_o as_o much_o ground_n of_o reason_n for_o deny_v all_o scripture_n as_o any_o can_v for_o deny_v the_o use_n of_o the_o lord_n prayer_n as_o a_o prayer_n unto_o christian_n so_o demonstrable_o ground_v upon_o scripture_n command_v by_o christ_n himself_o confirm_v by_o the_o practice_n of_o all_o christian_n in_o the_o world_n this_o be_v the_o true_a estate_n of_o the_o question_n as_o i_o apprehend_v if_o any_o think_v fit_a to_o add_v in_o the_o last_o place_n that_o in_o case_n we_o come_v short_a of_o our_o proof_n and_o can_v make_v our_o charge_n good_a we_o must_v needs_o be_v guilty_a either_o of_o inexcusable_a ignorance_n or_o intolerable_a uncharitableness_n or_o both_o i_o be_o content_a if_o any_o shall_v think_v i_o have_v use_v aggravation_n in_o it_o i_o be_o sorry_a my_o conscience_n do_v bear_v i_o witness_v i_o intend_v it_o not_o i_o pray_v god_n hearty_o it_o may_v never_o be_v lay_v to_o their_o charge_n as_o i_o very_o believe_v that_o none_o of_o these_o thing_n be_v real_o intend_v by_o they_o but_o in_o a_o business_n of_o this_o nature_n where_o i_o conceive_v the_o honour_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o good_a of_o all_o christian_n so_o much_o interest_v i_o think_v i_o shall_v unworthy_o prevaricate_v if_o i_o shall_v not_o use_v plainness_n of_o word_n and_o call_v 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d as_o the_o old_a say_n be_v but_o this_o i_o have_v say_v of_o my_o belief_n as_o to_o their_o intention_n i_o mean_v it_o of_o such_o as_o be_v true_a christian_n in_o the_o main_a fundamental_o as_o for_o the_o profess_a anabaptist_n quaker_n enthusiast_n or_o however_o call_v who_o have_v apostatise_v from_o the_o right_n say_v such_o as_o they_o frequent_o blaspheme_v against_o the_o person_n so_o no_o wonder_n if_o they_o frequent_o and_o purposely_o blaspheme_v the_o prayer_n of_o christ_n as_o i_o have_v hear_v it_o report_v of_o some_o some_o year_n ago_o great_a pretender_n to_o the_o spirit_n of_o prayer_n they_o shall_v often_o say_v if_o christ_n be_v alive_a again_o conversant_a in_o earth_n among_o man_n intend_v i_o suppose_v he_o will_v be_v ashamed_a of_o that_o prayer_n other_o have_v be_v hear_v wretched_a miscreant_n to_o say_v they_o thank_v god_n they_o have_v forget_v it_o as_o bad_a or_o worse_o have_v use_v the_o lord_n prayer_n yet_o themselves_o will_v not_o do_v it_o that_o honour_n as_o to_o use_v it_o in_o that_o simplicity_n of_o word_n as_o deliver_v and_o commend_v unto_o we_o by_o christ_n but_o either_o not_o at_o all_o or_o so_o dislocate_v which_o we_o shall_v not_o except_v against_o if_o do_v in_o imitation_n and_o not_o in_o lieu_n of_o the_o lord_n prayer_n and_o dismember_v with_o their_o own_o cenception_n that_o little_a or_o nothing_o of_o it_o do_v appear_v in_o its_o own_o shape_n and_o form_n now_o we_o be_v to_o proceed_v to_o the_o consideration_n of_o the_o text_n we_o will_v first_o consider_v of_o a_o general_a objection_n or_o evasion_n rather_o which_o i_o find_v some_o have_v use_v in_o this_o very_a point_n we_o urge_v the_o plain_a literal_a sense_n yes_o but_o all_o thing_n say_v they_o in_o scripture_n be_v not_o to_o be_v take_v literal_o we_o grant_v it_o but_o withal_o we_o say_v to_o make_v use_n of_o this_o objection_n upon_o all_o occasion_n when_o we_o find_v our_o self_n pinch_v without_o any_o ground_n at_o all_o of_o either_o word_n reason_n circumstance_n
