the_o babe_n be_v not_o acquaint_v with_o they_o attain_v to_o what_o be_v necessary_a and_o but_o what_o be_v necessary_a to_o salvation_n heb._n 6.9_o they_o have_v enough_o to_o keep_v they_o out_o of_o hell_n and_o to_o land_n they_o safe_a in_o heaven_n but_o as_o to_o the_o well-being_n of_o a_o saint_n viz._n a_o assurance_n of_o the_o father_n love_n which_o the_o little_a child_n have_v etc._n it_o seem_v to_o be_v the_o practice_n of_o christ_n apostle_n after_o they_o have_v baptise_a person_n soon_o or_o late_a to_o lay_v hand_n on_o they_o by_o which_o gift_n be_v confer_v act_v 8.17_o and_o 19.4_o 6._o with_o many_o other_o place_n now_o whether_o the_o doctrine_n of_o baptism_n may_v not_o refer_v to_o the_o baptise_v of_o gentile_n as_o well_o as_o jew_n and_o lay_v on_o of_o hand_n also_o refer_v to_o both_o a_o thing_n which_o the_o jew_n can_v hardly_o bear_v i_o submit_v to_o the_o consideration_n of_o other_o as_o to_o our_o present_a purpose_n not_o to_o meddle_v with_o controversy_n i_o do_v conceive_v that_o by_o these_o two_o thing_n be_v note_v in_o general_a how_o babe_n do_v submit_v and_o give_v up_o themselves_o to_o the_o obedience_n of_o house_n so_o flourish_v in_o the_o court_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o not_o be_v tree_n without_o fruit_n it_o be_v much_o to_o be_v fear_v that_o they_o have_v no_o grace_n who_o do_v not_o desire_v to_o grow_v in_o grace_n and_o whether_o they_o have_v grace_n enough_o to_o be_v save_v who_o can_v be_v content_a with_o only_o so_o much_o grace_n as_o will_v save_v they_o again_o they_o do_v not_o only_o wish_v and_o desire_n but_o do_v endeavour_n also_o to_o attain_v their_o wish_n and_o desire_n viz._n that_o they_o may_v grow_v and_o do_v therefore_o diligent_o and_o conscientious_o attend_v upon_o and_o use_v all_o mean_n that_o god_n have_v appoint_v for_o their_o growth_n naked_a velleity_n and_o idle_a wish_n may_v be_v find_v in_o formalist_n and_o hypocrite_n but_o to_o be_v as_o indeavourous_a as_o desirous_a be_v congruous_a to_o and_o only_o find_v in_o the_o new_a creature_n the_o newborn_a one_o balaam_n can_v profess_v and_o wish_v like_o a_o godly_a man_n but_o he_o instead_o of_o use_v answerable_a endeavour_n practise_v the_o clean_a contrary_n in_o formalist_n the_o end_n only_o be_v desirable_a but_o in_o true_a saint_n the_o mean_n be_v as_o desirable_a be_v not_o only_o the_o way_n to_o but_o a_o part_n of_o their_o happiness_n yet_o once_o more_o true_a convert_v though_o but_o babe_n take_v not_o up_o and_o rest_v satisfy_v with_o desire_n and_o endeavour_n unless_o they_o attain_v the_o end_n of_o desire_n and_o endeavour_n or_o with_o the_o use_n of_o mean_n without_o the_o end_n of_o mean_n now_o it_o be_v true_a these_o babe_n attain_v but_o little_a and_o that_o be_v the_o reason_n they_o be_v so_o restless_a and_o unsatisfied_a they_o have_v the_o least_o satisfaction_n of_o any_o saint_n because_o they_o be_v much_o in_o desire_n and_o little_a in_o enjoyment_n and_o therefore_o desire_v the_o more_o other_o take_v up_o with_o desire_n and_o endeavour_n which_o these_o can_v do_v they_o prosecute_v and_o pursue_v still_o and_o say_v as_o absolom_n why_o be_o i_o come_v up_o from_o geshur_n if_o i_o may_v not_o see_v the_o king_n face_n hear_v pray_v etc._n etc._n be_v not_o a_o satisfaction_n to_o they_o though_o they_o do_v it_o as_o a_o duty_n unless_o they_o have_v communion_n with_o and_o conformity_n to_o god_n eekt_v out_o and_o carry_v on_o thereby_o and_o all_o this_o be_v because_o 2_o tim._n 1.5_o and_o when_o the_o apostle_n pray_v that_o the_o ephesian_n may_v be_v strengthen_v he_o join_v this_o with_o it_o that_o christ_n may_v dwell_v in_o their_o heart_n by_o faith_n put_v to_o flight_n and_o conquer_v by_o the_o it_o be_v write_v the_o word_n of_o god_n abide_v in_o power_n and_o efficacy_n in_o the_o young_a man_n as_o he_o be_v by_o our_o saviour_n thus_o i_o have_v brief_o show_v the_o parallel_n between_o the_o temptation_n which_o attend_v christ_n and_o which_o attend_v the_o young_a man_n after_o the_o witness_n of_o the_o spirit_n concern_v their_o sonship_n which_o be_v defeat_v and_o put_v to_o flight_n by_o the_o word_n of_o god_n the_o sign_n of_o this_o victory_n shall_v be_v show_v open_o as_o in_o triumph_n in_o due_a time_n but_o at_o present_a i_o shall_v speak_v to_o one_o and_o only_o to_o one_o temptation_n more_o which_o assault_v some_o of_o the_o little_a child_n and_o the_o young_a man_n and_o then_o proceed_v to_o prove_v the_o victory_n by_o the_o spoil_n which_o shall_v be_v bring_v forth_o as_o sign_n thereof_o sect_n 4._o one_o temptation_n more_o which_o they_o undergo_v and_o conquer_v too_o there_o be_v one_o argument_n which_o the_o devil_n can_v not_o make_v use_n of_o against_o christ_n who_o be_v without_o sin_n but_o do_v often_o make_v use_n of_o against_o the_o little_a child_n and_o young_a man_n misapply_v which_o latter_a be_v as_o bad_a as_o the_o former_a the_o devil_n wrest_v and_o so_o wrong_v the_o scripture_n and_o know_v it_o though_o it_o be_v to_o his_o own_o confutation_n and_o confusion_n they_o say_v as_o our_o saviour_n do_v again_o it_o be_v write_v and_o as_o the_o devil_n know_v that_o the_o seem_a opposite_a scripture_n may_v be_v reconcile_v so_o he_o can_v endure_v that_o they_o shall_v be_v reconcile_v he_o will_v rather_o be_v silent_a and_o answer_v nothing_o as_o when_o christ_n oppose_v his_o half_a quotation_n by_o a_o whole_a one_o thus_o then_o may_v the_o young_a man_n answer_n satan_n thou_o know_v that_o abraham_n moses_n david_n etc._n etc._n be_v bear_v of_o god_n and_o have_v the_o witness_n of_o his_o spirit_n that_o they_o be_v his_o child_n and_o yet_o be_v not_o without_o sin_n but_o sin_v after_o their_o new_a birth_n or_o conversion_n and_o thou_o know_v that_o if_o we_o say_v the_o we_o speak_v of_o in_o the_o forego_n verse_n who_o have_v fellowship_n with_o god_n if_o we_o say_v that_o we_o have_v not_o sin_v since_o conversion_n we_o make_v he_o a_o liar_n and_o his_o word_n be_v not_o in_o we_o 1_o joh._n 1.10_o this_o the_o devil_n either_o can_v or_o will_v not_o reconcile_v though_o he_o know_v it_o be_v reconcileable_a with_o the_o fore-alledged_n text_n and_o therefore_o they_o be_v misapply_v as_o to_o the_o case_n in_o hand_n and_o the_o person_n concern_v in_o this_o dispute_n but_o 2._o say_v the_o young_a man_n the_o text_n which_o thou_o have_v quote_v do_v not_o seem_v to_o speak_v of_o
