themselves_o with_o the_o hear_n of_o sermon_n only_o think_v thereby_o to_o avoid_v the_o penalty_n due_a to_o such_o as_o whole_o absent_v themselves_o from_o the_o church_n we_o therefore_o for_o the_o restraint_n of_o all_o such_o wilful_a contemner_n or_o neglecter_n of_o the_o service_n of_o god_n do_v ordain_v that_o the_o church_n or_o chapel_n warden_n and_o questman_n or_o sideman_n command_v all_o governor_n of_o college_n and_o hall_n in_o either_o of_o the_o university_n that_o they_o administer_v this_o say_a oath_n to_o all_o person_n resident_a in_o their_o several_a house_n that_o have_v take_v the_o degree_n before_o mention_v in_o this_o canon_n within_o six_o month_n after_o the_o publication_n hereof_o and_o we_o likewise_o constitute_v that_o all_o bishop_n shall_v be_v bind_v to_o give_v the_o say_a oath_n unto_o all_o those_o to_o who_o they_o give_v holy_a order_n at_o the_o time_n of_o their_o ordination_n or_o to_o whosoever_o they_o give_v collation_n institution_n or_o licence_n to_o preach_v or_o serve_v any_o cure_n vii_o a_o declaration_n concerning_o some_o rite_n and_o ceremony_n because_o it_o be_v general_o to_o be_v wish_v that_o unity_n of_o faith_n be_v accompany_v with_o uniformity_n of_o practisâ—_z in_o the_o outward_a worship_n and_o service_n of_o god_n chief_o for_o the_o avoid_n of_o groundless_a suspitâ—ons_n of_o those_o who_o be_v weak_a and_o the_o malicious_a aspersion_n of_o the_o profess_a enemy_n of_o our_o religion_n the_o one_o fear_v innovation_n the_o other_o flatter_v themselves_o with_o a_o vain_a hope_n of_o our_o backslide_n unto_o their_o popish_a superstition_n by_o reason_n of_o the_o situation_n of_o the_o communion_n table_n and_o the_o approach_n thereunto_o the_o synod_n declare_v as_o followethâ—_z that_o the_o stand_n of_o the_o communion_n table_n sideways_o under_o the_o east_n window_n of_o every_o chancel_n or_o chapel_n be_v in_o its_o own_o nature_n indifferent_a neither_o command_v nor_o condemn_v by_o the_o word_n of_o god_n either_o express_o or_o by_o immediate_a deduction_n and_o therefore_o that_o no_o religion_n be_v to_o be_v place_v therein_o or_o scruple_n to_o be_v make_v thereon_o and_o albeit_o at_o the_o time_n of_o reform_v this_o church_n from_o that_o gross_a superstition_n of_o popery_n it_o be_v careful_o provide_v that_o all_o mean_n shall_v be_v use_v to_o root_v out_o of_o the_o mind_n of_o the_o people_n both_o the_o inclination_n thereunto_o and_o memory_n thereof_o especial_o of_o the_o idolatry_n commit_v in_o the_o mass_n for_o which_o cause_n all_o popish_a altar_n be_v demolish_v yet_o notwithstanding_o it_o be_v then_o order_v by_o the_o injunction_n and_o advertisement_n of_o queen_n elizabeth_n of_o blessâ—d_a memory_n that_o the_o holy_a table_n shall_v stand_v in_o the_o place_n where_o the_o altar_n stand_v and_o according_o have_v be_v continue_v in_o the_o royal_a chapel_n of_o three_o famous_a and_o pious_a prince_n and_o in_o most_o cathedral_n and_o some_o parochial_a church_n which_o do_v sufficient_o acquit_v the_o manner_n of_o place_v the_o say_a table_n from_o any_o illegality_n or_o just_a suspicion_n of_o popish_a superstition_n or_o innovation_n and_o therefore_o we_o judge_v it_o fit_a and_o convenient_a that_o all_o church_n and_o chapel_n do_v conform_v themselves_o in_o this_o particular_a to_o the_o example_n of_o the_o cathedral_n or_o mother_n church_n save_v always_o the_o general_a liberty_n leave_v to_o the_o bishop_n by_o law_n during_o the_o time_n
