the_o mention_v of_o it_o that_o will_v add_v nothing_o for_o it_o be_v a_o matter_n of_o fact_n be_v therefore_o mention_v by_o the_o evangelist_n and_o there_o be_v other_o thing_n less_o memorable_a as_o often_o yea_o often_o mention_v matthew_n 23._o and_o mark_n give_v only_o a_o account_n of_o the_o matter_n of_o fact_n without_o any_o precept_n to_o do_v so_o afterward_o simple_o declare_v that_o jesus_n at_o that_o time_n do_v desire_v they_o to_o eat_v of_o the_o bread_n and_o drink_v of_o the_o cup_n to_o which_o luke_n add_v these_o word_n this_o do_v in_o remembrance_n of_o i_o if_o we_o consider_v this_o action_n of_o christ_n with_o his_o apostle_n there_o will_v appear_v nothing_o singular_a in_o it_o for_o a_o foundation_n to_o such_o a_o strange_a that_o this_o ceremony_n by_o those_o that_o practise_v it_o have_v a_o immediate_a relation_n to_o the_o outward_a body_n and_o death_n of_o christ_n upon_o the_o cross_n as_o be_v proper_o a_o memorial_n of_o it_o but_o it_o do_v not_o thence_o follow_v that_o it_o have_v any_o inward_a or_o immediate_a relation_n to_o believer_n communicate_v or_o partake_v of_o the_o spiritual_a body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n or_o that_o spiritual_a supper_n speak_v of_o rev._n 3._o 20._o for_o though_o in_o a_o general_a way_n as_o every_o religious_a action_n in_o some_o respect_n have_v a_o common_a relation_n to_o the_o spiritual_a communion_n of_o the_o saint_n with_o god_n so_o we_o shall_v not_o deny_v but_o this_o have_v a_o relation_n to_o other_o now_o for_o his_o call_v the_o cup_n the_o cup_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o say_v they_o be_v guilty_a of_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n and_o eat_v their_o own_o damnation_n in_o not_o discern_v the_o lord_n body_n etc._n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n have_v some_o special_a relation_n to_o the_o ceremony_n of_o break_v bread_n i_o shall_v first_o refute_v that_o opinion_n and_o then_o proceed_v to_o consider_v the_o nature_n and_o use_v of_o that_o ceremony_n and_o whether_o it_o be_v now_o necessary_a to_o continue_v answer_v the_o reason_n and_o objection_n of_o such_o as_o plead_v its_o continuance_n as_o a_o necessary_a and_o stand_a ordinance_n of_o jesus_n christ._n §_o v._o first_o it_o must_v be_v understand_v that_o i_o speak_v of_o a_o necessary_a and_o peculiar_a relation_n precept_n otherwise_o our_o pray_v because_o if_o we_o ask_v he_o have_v promise_v we_o shall_v receive_v now_o the_o communion_n or_o participation_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n have_v no_o such_o necessary_a relation_n to_o the_o break_n of_o bread_n and_o drink_n of_o wine_n for_o if_o it_o have_v any_o such_o necessary_a relation_n it_o will_v either_o be_v from_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o thing_n or_o from_o some_o divine_a precept_n but_o we_o shall_v show_v it_o be_v from_o neither_o therefore_o etc._n etc._n first_o it_o be_v not_o from_o the_o nature_n of_o it_o because_o to_o eat_v of_o the_o bread_n and_o drink_v of_o the_o wine_n even_o that_o which_o they_o say_v be_v consecrate_v and_o transubstantiate_v into_o the_o very_a body_n of_o christ_n who_o notwithstanding_o have_v not_o life_n eternal_a have_v not_o christ_n dwell_v in_o they_o nor_o do_v live_v by_o he_o as_o all_o do_v who_o true_o partake_v blood_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n without_o the_o use_n of_o this_o ceremony_n as_o all_o the_o patriarch_n and_o prophet_n do_v before_o this_o ordinance_n as_o they_o account_v it_o be_v institute_v neither_o be_v there_o any_o duty_n for_o though_o they_o that_o partake_v of_o the_o flesh_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n can_v but_o remember_v he_o yet_o the_o lord_n and_o his_o death_n may_v be_v remember_v as_o none_o begin_v deny_v where_o his_o flesh_n and_o blood_n be_v not_o true_o partake_v of_o so_o that_o since_o the_o very_a particular_a and_o express_a end_n of_o this_o ceremony_n may_v be_v witness_v to_o wit_n the_o remembrance_n of_o the_o lord_n death_n and_o yet_o the_o flesh_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n not_o partake_v of_o it_o can_v have_v have_v any_o necessary_a relation_n to_o it_o else_o the_o partake_n thereof_o will_v have_v be_v the_o end_n of_o it_o and_o can_v not_o have_v be_v attain_v without_o this_o participation_n but_o on_o the_o contrary_n we_o may_v well_o infer_v hence_o that_o since_o the_o positive_a end_n of_o this_o ceremony_n be_v not_o the_o partake_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n and_o that_o whoever_o partake_v of_o the_o flesh_n and_o blood_n
