the_o salvation_n of_o their_o soul_n but_o the_o faithful_a under_o the_o old_a testament_n never_o come_v to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o eucharist_n by_o the_o paschal_n lamb_n and_o though_o they_o have_v come_v to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o it_o yet_o they_o have_v have_v no_o benefit_n thereby_o in_o a_o word_n see_v the_o passover_n and_o the_o eucharist_n be_v type_n image_n and_o sign_n of_o jesus_n christ_n it_o be_v very_o impertinent_a to_o say_v that_o the_o passover_n be_v the_o type_n of_o the_o eucharist_n because_o a_o type_n be_v not_o proper_o the_o type_n of_o another_o type_n but_o only_o of_o the_o thing_n typify_v as_o the_o image_n of_o caesar_n be_v not_o the_o image_n of_o another_o image_n of_o caesar_n but_o only_o of_o caesar_n himself_o 10._o second_o i_o answer_v that_o the_o excellence_n of_o one_o sacrament_n above_o another_o must_v be_v draw_v from_o its_o form_n and_o efficacy_n and_o not_o from_o its_o matter_n because_o it_o be_v form_n that_o chief_o give_v be_v to_o thing_n compose_v of_o matter_n and_o form_n but_o the_o form_n of_o sacrament_n depend_v on_o the_o word_n of_o institution_n because_o be_v sign_n of_o divine_a institution_n their_o form_n can_v only_o depend_v upon_o the_o will_n of_o god_n who_o choose_v certain_a thing_n to_o signify_v other_o thing_n and_o this_o will_n of_o god_n can_v be_v know_v but_o by_o revelation_n which_o be_v the_o word_n so_o that_o it_o be_v proper_o say_v that_o the_o word_n join_v with_o the_o element_n make_v the_o sacrament_n therefore_o although_o the_o sacrament_n of_o the_o passover_n be_v more_o excellent_a than_o the_o eucharist_n in_o respect_n of_o its_o matter_n because_o the_o paschal_n lamb_n and_o its_o blood_n be_v more_o excellent_a than_o the_o bread_n and_o wine_n of_o the_o eucharist_n and_o that_o the_o lamb_n and_o its_o blood_n have_v a_o great_a analogy_n with_o
my_o body_n must_v be_v expound_v thus_o this_o bread_n be_v the_o sign_n and_o sacrament_n of_o my_o body_n whence_o it_o follow_v that_o in_o one_o single_a proposition_n of_o jesus_n christ_n in_o romish_a doctor_n be_v mistake_v when_o they_o tell_v we_o that_o all_o that_o jesus_n christ_n say_v when_o he_o institute_v the_o eucharist_n must_v be_v take_v literal_o and_o without_o a_o figure_n but_o withal_o we_o must_v not_o imagine_v that_o jesus_n christ_n speak_v obscure_o because_o he_o speak_v figurative_o these_o figure_n and_o manner_n of_o speech_n be_v common_o and_o familiar_o use_v by_o all_o the_o world_n 5._o but_o when_o we_o say_v that_o these_o word_n this_o be_v my_o body_n this_o be_v my_o blood_n must_v be_v expound_v thus_o this_o bread_n be_v the_o sign_n and_o sacrament_n of_o my_o body_n this_o wine_n be_v the_o sign_n and_o sacrament_n of_o my_o blood_n we_o do_v not_o mean_v that_o the_o bread_n and_o wine_n be_v bare_o and_o simple_o sign_n of_o christ_n body_n and_o blood_n but_o we_o believe_v that_o the_o bread_n and_o wine_n in_o the_o eucharist_n be_v sign_n that_o do_v exhibit_v the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n to_o believer_n for_o when_o they_o do_v by_o the_o mouth_n of_o the_o body_n receive_v the_o bread_n and_o wine_n of_o the_o eucharist_n they_o do_v at_o the_o same_o time_n by_o the_o mouth_n of_o the_o soul_n viz._n by_o faith_n receive_v the_o body_n of_o christ_n break_v and_o his_o blood_n shed_v for_o the_o remission_n of_o their_o sin_n as_o will_v be_v prove_v in_o the_o next_o chapter_n 6._o add_v hereunto_o this_o one_o argument_n when_o a_o man_n say_v that_o a_o thing_n be_v such_o if_o it_o be_v not_o such_o during_o the_o whole_a time_n which_o he_o employ_v in_o say_v it_o be_v such_o he_o make_v a_o false_a proposition_n for_o example_n when_o a_o man_n say_v that_o a_o wall_n be_v white_a if_o it_o be_v not_o white_a during_o the_o whole_a time_n he_o employ_v in_o say_v christ_n utter_v a_o false_a proposition_n which_o be_v blasphemous_a to_o affirm_v we_o must_v lay_v down_o this_o for_o a_o foundation_n that_o that_o which_o jesus_n christ_n give_v his_o disciple_n when_o he_o say_v this_o be_v my_o body_n be_v his_o body_n not_o only_o after_o he_o have_v say_v it_o but_o also_o while_o he_o be_v say_v it_o and_o before_o he_o say_v it_o and_o here_o we_o have_v this_o advantage_n of_o those_o of_o the_o romish_a church_n that_o we_o believe_v the_o truth_n of_o these_o word_n of_o jesus_n christ_n this_o be_v my_o body_n much_o better_a than_o they_o do_v because_o they_o believe_v it_o at_o one_o time_n only_o viz._n after_o he_o have_v say_v it_o but_o we_o believe_v it_o at_o three_o several_a time_n viz._n before_o he_o say_v it_o when_o he_o be_v say_v it_o and_o after_o he_o have_v say_v it_o but_o here_o some_o may_v object_v that_o we_o must_v not_o take_v the_o word_n of_o our_o lord_n in_o too_o rigorous_a a_o sense_n and_o that_o in_o these_o word_n this_o be_v my_o body_n we_o must_v take_v the_o present_a tense_n for_o the_o next_o future_a and_o then_o the_o sense_n will_v be_v this_o this_o will_v immediate_o be_v my_o body_n to_o which_o i_o answer_v that_o the_o romish_a doctor_n will_v have_v we_o take_v these_o word_n this_o be_v my_o body_n in_o the_o rigour_n of_o the_o literal_a sense_n and_o then_o the_o proposition_n be_v evident_o false_a i_o know_v that_o the_o present_a tense_n may_v be_v take_v for_o the_o next_o future_a as_o when_o jesus_n christ_n say_v i_o go_v to_o my_o father_n and_o to_o your_o father_n i_o go_v to_o my_o god_n and_o to_o your_o god_n that_o be_v i_o shall_v go_v speedy_o but_o who_o can_v be_v so_o bold_a and_o ignorant_a as_o to_o affirm_v that_o this_o
