these_o perfection_n be_v to_o be_v find_v scatter_v in_o the_o world_n but_o not_o all_o of_o they_o join_v in_o any_o one_o which_o may_v be_v god_n for_o on_o the_o contrary_a unity_n simplicity_n or_o the_o inseparability_n of_o all_o god_n attribute_n be_v one_o of_o the_o chief_a perfection_n which_o i_o conceive_v in_o he_o and_o certain_o the_o idea_n of_o the_o unity_n of_o the_o divine_a whether_o any_o thing_n do_v exist_v and_o find_v that_o from_o my_o set_a myself_o to_o examine_v such_o a_o thing_n it_o evident_o follow_v that_o i_o myself_o exist_v i_o can_v not_o but_o judge_n what_o i_o so_o clear_o understand_v to_o be_v true_a not_o that_o i_o be_v force_v thereto_o by_o any_o outward_a impulse_n but_o because_o a_o strong_a propension_n in_o my_o will_n do_v follow_v this_o great_a light_n in_o my_o understanding_n so_o that_o i_o believe_v it_o so_o much_o the_o more_o free_o and_o willing_o by_o how_o much_o the_o less_o indifferent_a i_o be_v thereto_o but_o now_o i_o understand_v not_o only_o that_o i_o exist_v as_o i_o be_o a_o thing_n that_o think_v but_o i_o also_o meet_v with_o a_o certain_a idea_n of_o a_o corporeal_a nature_n and_o it_o so_o happen_v that_o i_o doubt_v whether_o that_o think_v nature_n that_o be_v in_o i_o be_v different_a from_o that_o corporeal_a nature_n or_o whether_o they_o be_v both_o the_o same_o but_o in_o this_o i_o suppose_v that_o i_o have_v find_v no_o argument_n to_o incline_v i_o either_o way_n and_o therefore_o i_o be_o indifferent_a to_o affirm_v or_o deny_v either_o or_o to_o judge_v nothing_o of_o either_o but_o this_o indifferency_n extend_v itself_o not_o only_o to_o those_o thing_n of_o which_o i_o be_o clear_o ignorant_a but_o general_o to_o all_o those_o thing_n which_o be_v not_o so_o very_o evident_o know_v to_o i_o at_o the_o time_n when_o my_o will_n deliberate_v of_o they_o for_o though_o never_o so_o probable_a guess_n incline_v i_o to_o one_o side_n yet_o the_o know_v that_o like_o that_o sun_n which_o be_v without_o i_o and_o my_o reason_n persuade_v i_o that_o that_o idea_n be_v most_o unlike_a the_o sun_n which_o seem_v to_o proceed_v immediate_o from_o itself_o all_o consider_v but_o in_o those_o idea_n also_o who_o objective_a reality_n be_v only_o respect_v that_o be_v to_o say_v for_o example_n of_o illustration_n it_o be_v not_o only_o impossible_a that_o a_o stone_n which_o be_v not_o shall_v now_o begin_v to_o be_v unless_o it_o be_v produce_v by_o something_o in_o which_o whatever_o go_v to_o the_o make_v a_o stone_n be_v either_o formal_o or_o virtual_o neither_o can_v heat_v he_o produce_v in_o any_o thing_n which_o before_o be_v not_o hot_a but_o by_o a_o thing_n which_o be_v at_o least_o of_o as_o equal_v a_o degree_n of_o perfection_n in_o which_o all_o the_o objective_a reality_n of_o the_o idea_n be_v formal_o contain_v so_o that_o i_o plain_o discover_v by_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n that_o the_o idea_n which_o be_v in_o i_o be_v as_o it_o be_v picture_n which_o may_v easy_o come_v short_a of_o the_o perfection_n of_o those_o thing_n from_o whence_o they_o be_v take_v but_o can_v contain_v any_o thing_n great_a or_o more_o perfect_a than_o they_o and_o the_o long_o and_o more_o diligent_o i_o pry_v into_o these_o thing_n so_o much_o the_o more_o clear_o and_o distinct_o do_v i_o discover_v they_o to_o be_v true_a but_o what_o shall_v i_o conclude_v from_o hence_o thus_o that_o if_o the_o objective_a reality_n of_o any_o of_o my_o idea_n be_v such_o that_o it_o can_v be_v in_o i_o either_o formarlly_n or_o or_o change_n of_o place_n to_o which_o may_v be_v add_v their_o substance_n continuance_n and_o number_n as_o to_o the_o other_o such_o as_o be_v light_z colour_n sound_n smell_v taste_n heat_v and_o cold_a with_o the_o other_o tactile_a quality_n i_o have_v but_o very_o obscure_a and_o confuse_a thought_n of_o they_o so_o that_o i_o know_v not_o whether_o they_o be_v true_a or_o false_a that_o be_v to_o say_v whether_o the_o idea_n i_o have_v of_o they_o be_v the_o idea_n of_o thing_n which_o real_o be_v or_o be_v not_o for_o although_o falsehood_n formal_o and_o proper_o so_o call_v consist_v only_o in_o
appetite_n and_o affection_n in_o it_o and_o for_o iâ—_n and_o last_o i_o perceive_v pleasure_n and_o pain_n in_o its_o part_n and_o not_o in_o any_o other_o without_o it_o but_o why_o from_o the_o be_o not_o absolute_o certain_a that_o any_o part_n of_o i_o be_v affect_v with_o pain_n though_o i_o feel_v pain_n therein_o to_o these_o i_o have_v late_o add_v two_o very_o general_a reason_n of_o doubt_n 1._o medit._fw-la 1._o the_o first_o be_v that_o while_o i_o be_v awake_a i_o can_v not_o believe_v myself_o to_o perceive_v any_o thing_n which_o i_o can_v not_o think_v myself_o sometime_o to_o perceive_v though_o i_o be_v a_o sleep_n and_o see_v i_o can_v believe_v that_o what_o i_o seem_v to_o perceive_v in_o my_o sleep_n proceed_v from_o outward_a object_n what_o great_a reason_n have_v i_o to_o think_v so_o of_o what_o i_o perceive_v whilst_o i_o be_o awake_a the_o other_o cause_n of_o doubt_n be_v that_o see_v i_o know_v not_o the_o author_n of_o my_o be_v or_o at_o least_o i_o then_o suppose_v myself_o not_o to_o know_v he_o what_o reason_n be_v there_o but_o that_o i_o may_v be_v so_o order_v by_o nature_n as_o to_o be_v deceive_v even_o in_o those_o thing_n which_o pleasure_n we_o have_v make_v about_o the_o signification_n of_o word_n for_o if_o he_o grant_v that_o something_o be_v signify_v by_o word_n why_o will_v he_o not_o admit_v that_o our_o ratiocination_n be_v rather_o about_o this_o something_o then_o about_o word_n only_o and_o by_o the_o same_o right_n that_o he_o conclude_v the_o mind_n to_o be_v a_o motion_n he_o may_v conclude_v also_o that_o the_o earth_n be_v heaven_n or_o what_o else_o he_o please_v object_n v._o against_o the_o three_o meditation_n of_o god_n *_o some_o of_o these_o viz._n humane_a thought_n be_v as_o it_o be_v the_o image_n of_o thing_n and_o to_o these_o alone_a belong_v proper_o the_o name_n of_o a_o idea_n as_o when_o i_o think_v on_o a_o man_n a_o chimaera_n heaven_n a_o angel_n or_o god_n when_o i_o think_v on_o a_o man_n i_o perceive_v a_o idea_n make_v up_o of_o figure_n and_o colour_n whereof_o i_o may_v doubt_v whether_o it_o be_v the_o likeness_n of_o a_o man_n or_o not_o and_o so_o when_o i_o think_v on_o heaven_n but_o when_o i_o think_v on_o a_o chimaera_n i_o perceive_v a_o image_n or_o idea_n of_o which_o i_o may_v doubt_v whether_o it_o be_v the_o likeness_n of_o any_o animal_n not_o only_o at_o present_a exist_v but_o possible_a to_o exist_v or_o that_o ever_o will_v exist_v hereafter_o or_o not_o but_o think_v on_o a_o angel_n there_o be_v offer_v to_o my_o mind_n sometime_o the_o image_n of_o a_o flame_n sometime_o the_o image_n of_o a_o pretty_a little_a boy_n with_o wing_n which_o i_o be_o certain_a have_v no_o likeness_n to_o a_o angel_n and_o therefore_o that_o it_o be_v not_o the_o idea_n of_o a_o angel_n but_o believe_v that_o there_o be_v some_o creature_n who_o do_v as_o it_o be_v wait_v upon_o god_n and_o be_v invisible_a and_o immaterial_a upon_o the_o thing_n believe_v or_o suppose_v we_o impose_v the_o name_n of_o angel_n whereas_o the_o idea_n under_o which_o i_o imagine_v a_o angel_n be_v compound_v of_o the_o idea_n of_o sensible_a thing_n in_o the_o like_a manner_n at_o the_o venerable_a name_n of_o god_n we_o have_v no_o image_n or_o idea_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o we_o be_v forbid_v to_o worship_n god_n under_o any_o image_n lest_o we_o shall_v seem_v to_o conceive_v he_o that_o be_v inconceivable_a whereby_o it_o appear_v that_o we_o have_v no_o idea_n of_o god_n but_o like_o one_o bear_v blind_a who_o be_v
