upon_o the_o business_n whilst_o he_o dissuade_v these_o he_o set_v on_o work_v some_o that_o be_v mark_v in_o their_o forehead_n for_o his_o child_n giddy_o and_o furious_o to_o broach_v and_o set_v on_o foot_n those_o very_a thing_n and_o design_n he_o dissuade_v the_o other_o from_o and_o then_o say_v he_o now_o see_v whether_o this_o generation_n of_o man_n go_v and_o where_o you_o have_v be_v have_v you_o follow_v they_o 2_o i_o have_v learn_v likewise_o to_o discern_v somewhat_o of_o the_o depth_n of_o the_o heart_n which_o will_v exercise_v the_o high_a pride_n under_o a_o pretext_n of_o great_a holiness_n and_o humility_n for_o it_o be_v indeed_o a_o most_o bless_a thing_n to_o attend_v to_o inward_a purity_n and_o mortification_n wherein_o lie_v the_o glory_n of_o a_o christian_a now_o say_v the_o heart_n how_o strange_o do_v such_o and_o such_o contend_v for_o this_o outward_a thing_n and_o the_o other_o well_o i_o will_v follow_v none_o of_o they_o but_o i_o will_v attend_v to_o the_o mortification_n of_o the_o inward_a man_n i_o be_o sure_a in_o that_o i_o shall_v be_v right_a now_o with_o this_o conceit_n the_o man_n go_v on_o secret_o blessing_n and_o lift_v up_o himself_o and_o he_o turn_v he_o and_o look_v he_o round_o and_o lo_o all_o be_v out_o of_o the_o way_n but_o he_o pride_n as_o it_o quick_o grow_v upon_o such_o a_o root_n so_o be_v it_o more_o abominable_a to_o god_n by_o how_o much_o it_o be_v more_o spiritual_a then_o that_o which_o may_v you_o discover_v itself_o more_o outward_o yet_o let_v i_o say_v thus_o do_v the_o devil_n and_o man_n heart_n at_o this_o day_n marvellous_o deceive_v many_o precious_a saint_n in_o this_o thing_n who_o be_v apt_a to_o think_v that_o they_o can_v mind_v these_o thing_n and_o as_o they_o shall_v study_v and_o look_v to_o their_o heart_n too_o whereas_o indeed_o it_o argue_v a_o childish_a temper_n in_o a_o man_n to_o think_v that_o he_o can_v learn_v the_o thing_n of_o his_o heart_n or_o keep_v the_o same_o up_o for_o god_n any_o long_a than_o it_o be_v exercise_v in_o those_o truth_n which_o more_o immediate_o concern_v the_o heart_n and_o life_n and_o have_v their_o foundation_n in_o christian_a experience_n as_o if_o those_o truth_n which_o lie_v out_o of_o the_o reach_n of_o my_o experience_n as_o a_o christian_a and_o more_o immediate_o concern_v god_n cause_n and_o glory_n without_o have_v not_o in_o they_o as_o natural_a a_o tendency_n to_o give_v a_o soul_n a_o sight_n of_o god_n and_o as_o great_a a_o efficacy_n to_o cause_v the_o heart_n to_o cleave_v to_o god_n and_o walk_v humble_o with_o he_o as_o truth_n that_o lie_v within_o the_o râ—ach_n of_o my_o experience_n nay_o i_o will_v here_o be_v bold_a to_o say_v that_o that_o soul_n who_o faithful_o follow_v god_n in_o those_o thing_n wherein_o his_o glory_n be_v more_o immediate_o concern_v shall_v learn_v more_o of_o his_o heart_n as_o it_o be_v by_o the_o by_o and_o have_v the_o same_o better_o order_v then_o shall_v that_o man_n who_o neglect_v this_o make_v that_o his_o continual_a study_n for_o it_o be_v not_o by_o our_o pore_v that_o we_o come_v to_o know_v our_o heart_n nor_o by_o our_o struggle_a to_o mend_v they_o so_o much_o as_o indeed_o by_o lay_v they_o in_o that_o path_n where_o christ_n in_o this_o or_o that_o day_n more_o common_o go_v and_o wait_v there_o to_o enjoyment_n whereof_o as_o yet_o be_v indeed_o a_o mercy_n beyond_o what_o the_o people_n of_o god_n far_o more_o deserve_v in_o former_a age_n have_v have_v the_o people_n of_o god_n can_v at_o this_o day_n do_v it_o be_v it_o not_o but_o that_o the_o suffering_n of_o christ_n cause_n their_o prayer_n have_v be_v long_o go_v forth_o and_o their_o hope_n raise_v be_v now_o more_o unto_o they_o than_o any_o suffering_n of_o their_o own_o and_o as_o daniel_n first_o and_o nehemiah_n afterward_o though_o they_o for_o their_o own_o particular_n be_v well_o in_o the_o court_n of_o the_o king_n of_o persia_n yet_o can_v not_o be_v well_o because_o it_o go_v not_o well_o with_o god_n cause_n at_o that_o day_n so_o notwithstanding_o god_n
give_v they_o from_o their_o work_n because_o their_o work_n be_v to_o bear_v witness_n for_o christ_n against_o the_o beast_n and_o that_o each_o in_o his_o place_n all_o the_o forty_o two_o month_n that_o the_o beast_n do_v tyrannize_v and_o the_o holy_a city_n be_v tread_v underfoot_o the_o magistrate_n as_o a_o magistrate_n bear_v public_a witness_n against_o the_o unjust_a oppression_n of_o the_o beast_n and_o his_o lawless_a tyranny_n over_o the_o estate_n and_o body_n of_o man_n yea_o and_o conscience_n too_o the_o minister_n as_o a_o minister_n against_o the_o curse_a institution_n of_o antichrist_n either_o in_o doctrine_n or_o discipline_n here_o its_o necessary_a we_o distinguish_v betwixt_o that_o general_a witness-bearing_a that_o be_v common_a to_o all_o age_n and_o that_o special_a witness-bearing_a which_o be_v peculiar_a to_o these_o witness_n and_o to_o this_o time_n viz._n of_o the_o one_o thousand_o two_o hundred_o and_o sixty_o day_n there_o be_v a_o general_a testimony_n which_o the_o people_n of_o god_n in_o all_o age_n give_v for_o christ_n against_o the_o world_n sin_n satan_n oppression_n error_n etc._n etc._n but_o that_o testimony_n bare_o do_v not_o bring_v he_o who_o bear_v it_o within_o the_o number_n of_o these_o two_o witness_n a_o magistrate_n in_o his_o place_n may_v oppose_v tyranny_n oppression_n etc._n etc._n a_o minister_n in_o he_o error_n and_o false_a doctrine_n and_o yet_o neither_o of_o they_o christ_n two_o witness_n if_o there_o be_v not_o in_o both_o a_o oppose_a themselves_o to_o that_o special_a evil_n whether_o it_o be_v in_o thing_n civil_a or_o ecclesiastical_a that_o be_v at_o first_o bring_v in_o or_o be_v bring_v in_o be_v uphold_v by_o the_o beast_n for_o the_o peculiar_a work_n of_o these_o witness_n and_o the_o thing_n wherein_o lie_v the_o specifical_a difference_n betwixt_o these_o witness_n and_o other_o be_v that_o these_o bear_v witness_n for_o christ_n against_o the_o beast_n which_o be_v most_o evident_a 1_o because_o christ_n have_v pair_v his_o witness_n in_o the_o same_o manner_n as_o the_o beast_n have_v he_o the_o beast_n as_o but_o now_o i_o observe_v stand_v up_o with_o two_o witness_n viz_o a_o antichristian_a magistracy_n and_o ministry_n to_o maintain_v his_o cause_n on_o the_o contrary_a christ_n stand_v up_o with_o two_o witness_n or_o a_o pair_n of_o witness_n viz._n a_o true_a magistracy_n and_o ministry_n to_o oppose_v the_o beast_n and_o maintain_v his_o cause_n 2_o because_o it_o be_v for_o this_o reason_n christ_n entitle_v they_o my_o witness_n because_o in_o christ_n behalf_n they_o shall_v stand_v up_o against_o antichrist_n as_o those_o be_v say_v to_o be_v such_o a_o man_n witness_n that_o bear_v witness_n for_o he_o against_o his_o adversary_n all_o that_o time_n the_o beast_n stand_v up_o and_o will_v persuade_v the_o world_n that_o he_o be_v in_o the_o truth_n and_o his_o cause_n the_o right_n these_o two_o witness_n on_o the_o contrary_n stand_v up_o and_o profess_v before_o the_o world_n that_o he_o be_v the_o beast_n and_o his_o cause_n the_o cause_n of_o antichrist_n and_o not_o of_o christ_n 3_o which_o be_v the_o principal_a reason_n because_o the_o time_n that_o these_o witness_n bear_v their_o witness_n be_v the_o very_a time_n of_o the_o beast_n reign_v the_o time_n of_o the_o beast_n reign_v and_o tread_v under_o foot_n the_o holy_a city_n be_v forty_o two_o month_n rev._n 13.5_o chap._n 11.2_o the_o time_n of_o these_o two_o witness_n be_v one_o thousand_o two_o hundred_o and_o sixty_o day_n verse_n 3._o and_o i_o will_v give_v power_n to_o my_o two_o witness_n and_o they_o shall_v prophecy_n one_o thousand_o two_o hundred_o and_o sixty_o day_n now_o that_o the_o forty_o two_o month_n and_o the_o one_o thousand_o two_o hundred_o and_o sixty_o day_n be_v one_o and_o the_o same_o i_o prove_v not_o only_o from_o the_o general_a consent_n of_o expositor_n who_o acknowledge_v the_o thing_n give_v this_o reason_n for_o it_o because_o say_v they_o forty_o two_o mouth_n reduce_v into_o day_n and_o reckon_v thirty_o day_n to_o each_o month_n which_o be_v the_o grecian_a account_n which_o john_n write_v to_o the_o church_n of_o god_n then_o resident_a among_o the_o greek_n do_v observe_v make_v up_o the_o full_a sum_n of_o one_o thousand_o two_o hundred_o and_o sixty_o day_n not_o a_o day_n over_o or_o under_o but_o i_o prove_v it_o hence_o that_o indeed_o this_o thing_n must_v needs_o be_v so_o for_o let_v it_o be_v consider_v what_o be_v the_o very_a cause_n that_o these_o two_o witness_n wear_v sackcloth_n this_o long_a term_n of_o one_o thousand_o two_o hundred_o and_o sixty_o year_n the_o cause_n be_v not_o the_o suffering_n of_o the_o saint_n thoughout_v this_o time_n for_o have_v that_o be_v the_o cause_n than_o shall_v these_o witness_n have_v put_v on_o their_o sackeloth_n more_o early_o viz._n with_o the_o time_n of_o the_o ten_o first_o persecution_n which_o be_v a_o day_n of_o as_o sore_a suffering_n as_o ever_o any_o have_v be_v since_o but_o then_o these_o two_o witness_n here_o mention_v be_v not_o in_o their_o sackcloth_n but_o contrariwise_o the_o woman_n all_o that_o time_n be_v clothe_v with_o the_o sun_n chap._n 12.1_o the_o two_o witness_n in_o sackcloth_n therefore_o be_v not_o then_o up_o but_o the_o cause_n yea_o the_o very_a cause_n why_o the_o witness_n wear_v mourn_a attire_n be_v because_o they_o hear_v the_o continual_a blasphemy_n of_o the_o beast_n against_o god_n his_o name_n and_o tabernacle_n and_o they_o that_o dwell_v in_o heaven_n they_o see_v the_o holy_a city_n the_o truth_n and_o worship_n of_o christ_n tread_v under_o foot_n by_o the_o beast_n and_o they_o not_o able_a to_o rescue_v they_o out_o of_o his_o hand_n this_o make_v they_o put_v on_o sackcloth_n and_o mourn_v before_o the_o lord_n now_o consider_v the_o term_n of_o time_n that_o be_v give_v to_o the_o beast_n to_o continue_v to_o do_v these_o thing_n be_v forty_o two_o month_n this_o be_v so_o it_o will_v follow_v that_o in_o case_n this_o forty_o two_o month_n be_v a_o time_n either_o long_a or_o short_a than_o the_o one_o thousand_o two_o hundred_o and_o sixty_o day_n then_o must_v also_o the_o witness_n wear_v sackcloth_n be_v by_o so_o much_o long_o or_o short_a than_o 1260_o day_n for_o continue_v the_o cause_n and_o we_o continue_v the_o effect_n also_o and_o contrariwise_o take_v away_o the_o cause_n and_o the_o effect_n cease_v upon_o this_o principle_n it_o be_v a_o thing_n manifest_o clear_a that_o the_o 42_o month_n the_o 1260_o day_n make_v up_o but_o one_o and_o the_o same_o number_n of_o year_n which_o also_o must_v of_o necessity_n begin_v and_o end_v together_o hence_o it_o be_v evident_a that_o that_o very_a act_n which_o i_o may_v call_v the_o constitutive_a act_n i._n e._n the_o act_n which_o make_v these_o witness_n to_o be_v such_o be_v bearing_z witness_n against_o the_o beast_n take_v this_o away_o though_o they_o may_v stand_v up_o against_o all_o the_o evil_a that_o be_v in_o the_o world_n beside_o yet_o be_v they_o not_o christ_n witness_n if_o they_o do_v not_o in_o particular_a appear_v against_o the_o evil_n of_o the_o beast_n for_o if_o this_o be_v not_o the_o meaning_n what_o reason_n be_v or_o can_v be_v give_v why_o their_o witness-bearing_a shall_v be_v thus_o restrain_v only_o to_o the_o time_n of_o the_o beast_n see_v in_o the_o other_o sense_n it_o be_v a_o duty_n in_o all_o age_n to_o bear_v witness_n and_o those_o instrument_n the_o lord_n have_v raise_v up_o in_o all_o age_n have_v do_v it_o 1_o hence_o a_o man_n may_v be_v a_o godly_a man_n and_o in_o a_o more_o general_a way_n bear_v witness_n for_o christ_n and_o yet_o none_o of_o christ_n two_o witness_n 2_o hence_o it_o be_v of_o more_o concernment_n than_o many_o be_v aware_a of_o to_o be_v inquire_v into_o and_o public_o appear_v against_o whatsoever_o be_v of_o the_o beast_n though_o the_o thing_n be_v never_o so_o small_a a_o man_n in_o public_a place_n may_v cease_v to_o be_v a_o witness_n of_o christ_n if_o public_o he_o do_v not_o bear_v witness_n against_o these_o thing_n 3_o hence_o such_o law_n principle_n and_o practice_n as_o tend_v to_o suppress_v this_o witness-bearing_a against_o the_o beast_n be_v themselves_o express_o antichristian_a and_o of_o the_o beast_n sect_n iii_o these_o witness_n be_v call_v two_o because_o of_o the_o fewness_n of_o they_o say_v some_o because_o two_o be_v a_o number_n sufficient_a to_o bear_v a_o witness_n and_o without_o two_o a_o witness_n be_v invalid_a say_v other_o i_o no_o way_n disapprove_v these_o conjecture_n but_o i_o must_v confess_v i_o judge_v it_o most_o agreeable_a to_o the_o text_n to_o say_v they_o be_v therefore_o call_v two_o because_o they_o consist_v of_o two_o sort_n or_o two_o rank_n of_o man_n viz._n christ_n
this_o day_n seem_v to_o have_v lose_v that_o noble_a spirit_n that_o be_v in_o their_o ancestor_n who_o for_o christ_n sake_n love_v not_o their_o life_n unto_o death_n yet_o sure_o this_o consideration_n that_o they_o be_v the_o child_n and_o offspring_n of_o those_o famous_a bless_a witness_n who_o with_o undaunted_a resolution_n appear_v for_o christ_n when_o our_o forefather_n yea_o and_o the_o whole_a world_n wonder_v after_o the_o beast_n shall_v not_o a_o little_a draw_v out_o the_o bowel_n of_o our_o compassion_n towards_o they_o notwithstanding_o what_o i_o have_v say_v of_o germany_n as_o the_o place_n yet_o let_v i_o add_v this_o in_o the_o conclusion_n that_o i_o conceive_v withal_o that_o the_o condition_n of_o the_o people_n of_o god_n in_o other_o place_n will_v not_o be_v so_o prosperous_a but_o a_o cloud_n will_v be_v upon_o they_o their_o comfort_n and_o expectation_n a_o great_a part_n if_o not_o the_o great_a of_o this_o time_n for_o though_o the_o thickness_n and_o blackness_n of_o this_o cloud_n be_v to_o hang_v over_o germany_n yet_o may_v it_o not_o be_v think_v but_o that_o so_o great_a a_o cloud_n will_v cast_v a_o shadow_n further_o and_o thereby_o afflict_v at_o the_o same_o time_n though_o not_o in_o the_o same_o measure_n the_o people_n of_o god_n elsewhere_o and_o indeed_o it_o be_v very_o reasonable_a to_o think_v it_o shall_v be_v so_o for_o if_o when_o but_o a_o member_n suffer_v in_o the_o natural_a body_n all_o the_o member_n suffer_v with_o it_o then_o sure_o when_o not_o a_o member_n only_o but_o a_o principal_a part_n of_o the_o mystical_a body_n lie_v under_o so_o before_o a_o pressure_n as_o the_o body_n of_o christ_n never_o before_o lay_v under_o can_v we_o think_v the_o other_o member_n shall_v at_o that_o time_n have_v such_o cause_n of_o rejoice_v as_o those_o who_o feel_v no_o smart_n at_o all_o how_o can_v there_o then_o be_v a_o sympathy_n in_o the_o mystical_a body_n nay_o it_o be_v not_o only_o reasonable_a but_o a_o thing_n of_o great_a concernment_n and_o special_a use_n it_o shall_v be_v so_o to_o the_o end_n the_o other_o member_n by_o feel_a smart_n and_o anguish_n from_o a_o few_o only_o of_o the_o scatter_a drop_n light_v upon_o they_o may_v hereby_o be_v make_v the_o more_o sensible_a of_o the_o condition_n of_o their_o fellow_n brethren_n who_o lie_v under_o the_o furious_a rage_n of_o the_o tempest_n and_o also_o may_v from_o hence_o be_v stir_v up_o to_o cry_v aloud_o to_o the_o father_n of_o mercy_n for_o their_o poor_a brethren_n who_o now_o be_v thunderstruck_a have_v for_o the_o present_a neither_o sense_n nor_o life_n in_o a_o manner_n and_o so_o can_v cry_v for_o themselves_o sect_n ix_o two_o thing_n we_o have_v in_o a_o especial_a manner_n note_v by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n both_o which_o concern_v the_o witness_n and_o be_v to_o have_v their_o fulfil_n within_o the_o three_o day_n and_o a_o half_a of_o their_o lie_a dead_a first_o they_o of_o the_o people_n kindred_n nation_n and_o tongue_n see_v their_o dead_a body_n three_o day_n and_o a_o half_a and_o will_v not_o suffer_v their_o dead_a body_n to_o be_v put_v into_o grave_n vers_fw-la 9_o the_o put_n of_o the_o dead_a body_n of_o the_o witness_n into_o grave_n note_n a_o corporal_a death_n it_o be_v scripture_n phrase_n to_o put_v the_o grave_n for_o bodily_a death_n 1_o cor._n 15.55_o 1_o king_n 14.13_o 2_o king_n 22.20_o this_o will_v the_o beast_n do_v but_o he_o be_v hinder_v here_o a_o controversy_n arise_v who_o those_o people_n kindred_n nation_n and_o tongue_n shall_v be_v some_o will_v have_v they_o to_o be_v the_o popish_a party_n some_o a_o reform_a people_n if_o the_o one_o the_o act_n be_v a_o act_n of_o dis-favor_n if_o the_o other_o of_o favour_n both_o these_o opinion_n you_o may_v see_v with_o the_o reason_n of_o either_o lay_v down_o by_o mr._n woodcock_n in_o his_o treatise_n of_o the_o two_o witness_n who_o himself_o be_v for_o the_o first_o that_o they_o be_v the_o popish_a party_n to_o bring_v here_o the_o argument_n on_o both_o hand_n to_o the_o touchstone_n will_v be_v more_o tedious_a than_o profitable_a in_o regard_n the_o thing_n itself_o be_v not_o a_o matter_n of_o so_o great_a moment_n but_o that_o without_o any_o prejudice_n to_o all_o my_o other_o principle_n there_o may_v be_v a_o allowance_n of_o different_a conjecture_n and_o therefore_o to_o make_v a_o great_a contention_n for_o a_o little_a gain_n i_o shall_v not_o do_v it_o for_o it_o will_v not_o quit_v time_n and_o cost_n i_o shall_v therefore_o only_o offer_v to_o consideration_n my_o own_o thought_n hereof_o viz._n that_o neither_o the_o popish_a party_n nor_o a_o reform_a people_n proper_o so_o call_v or_o so_o esteem_v by_o christ_n be_v here_o mean_v but_o indeed_o a_o three_o party_n a_o party_n that_o can_v proper_o be_v say_v to_o worship_v the_o beast_n because_o he_o they_o disow_v nor_o a_o party_n that_o may_v proper_o be_v call_v a_o reform_a people_n because_o reformation_n be_v a_o thing_n they_o have_v little_a regard_n unto_o but_o if_o you_o will_v see_v they_o in_o their_o proper_a character_n they_o shall_v be_v person_n of_o a_o worldly_a interest_n or_o to_o speak_v plain_o pure_a statist_n who_o walk_v by_o the_o rule_n of_o state-policy_n shall_v neither_o profess_o own_v the_o cause_n of_o antichrist_n nor_o christ_n beyond_o these_o principle_n and_o therefore_o very_o emphatical_o have_v the_o scripture_n as_o seem_v to_o i_o set_v they_o forth_o by_o people_n and_o kindred_n and_o nation_n and_o tongue_n which_o as_o it_o be_v a_o middle_a name_n neither_o so_o odious_a as_o the_o name_n of_o the_o worshipper_n of_o the_o beast_n nor_o so_o honourable_a as_o that_o of_o the_o witness_n so_o do_v it_o excellent_o agree_v to_o such_o person_n who_o main_a design_n be_v a_o mere_a worldly_a interest_n for_o of_o such_o the_o great_a thing_n in_o their_o eye_n be_v the_o good_a of_o commonwealth_n the_o regulate_a and_o order_v the_o affair_n of_o people_n and_o nation_n and_o kindred_n and_o tongue_n and_o though_o they_o may_v own_v and_o favour_v the_o cause_n of_o christ_n yet_o will_v they_o not_o appear_v for_o it_o a_o step_n far_o than_o will_v stand_v with_o national_a interest_n the_o good_a of_o people_n and_o nation_n and_o kindred_n and_o tongue_n now_o such_o there_o shall_v be_v in_o the_o world_n in_o the_o time_n the_o witness_n lie_v dead_a who_o shall_v take_v notice_n of_o the_o witness_n slaughter_n and_o have_v a_o cast_v of_o their_o eye_n that_o way_n and_o by_o their_o power_n so_o far_o awe_v the_o beast_n as_o that_o he_o shall_v not_o satisfy_v his_o lust_n upon_o the_o witness_n second_o beside_o these_o we_o have_v another_o sort_n of_o people_n speak_v of_o who_o former_o be_v such_o as_o be_v torment_v by_o the_o witness_n in_o the_o time_n of_o their_o prophecy_n shall_v now_o upon_o their_o death_n be_v jovial_a make_v merry_a send_v gift_n one_o to_o another_o as_o hope_v they_o be_v now_o deliver_v from_o that_o danger_n they_o fear_v they_o shall_v sustain_v by_o these_o witness_n these_o be_v
