concern_v rash_a judgement_n and_o that_o necessary_o because_o surmise_n will_v arise_v upon_o very_o small_a occasion_n i._o quest._n when_o may_v a_o man_n doubt_n or_o suspect_v evil_a of_o another_o ans._n in_o all_o suspicion_n recourse_n must_v be_v have_v to_o the_o ground_n thereof_o other_o whether_o it_o rise_v of_o just_a and_o sufficient_a cause_n or_o not_o a_o sufficient_a cause_n of_o suspicion_n be_v that_o which_o in_o the_o judgement_n of_o wise_a man_n be_v well_o consider_v with_o all_o the_o circumstance_n thereof_o be_v judge_v sufficient_a and_o on_o the_o other_o side_n that_o be_v insufficient_a which_o wise_a man_n well_o weigh_v with_o the_o circumstance_n thereof_o do_v judge_v insufficient_a if_o then_o the_o cause_n of_o suspicion_n be_v think_v insufficient_a in_o the_o judgement_n of_o the_o wise_a and_o godly_a we_o must_v suspend_v our_o suspicion_n as_o thus_o suppose_v some_o evil_n be_v report_v abroad_o of_o such_o a_o man_n as_o that_o he_o be_v a_o thief_n a_o adulterer_n or_o such_o like_a yet_o this_o fame_n rise_v only_o of_o some_o one_o man_n report_n which_o because_o it_o may_v proceed_v from_o a_o ill_a mind_n on_o move_v we_o to_o look_v unto_o ourselves_o that_o we_o be_v not_o hurt_v by_o he_o but_o if_o the_o cause_n be_v think_v sufficient_a in_o the_o judgement_n of_o those_o that_o be_v wise_a and_o discreet_a than_o we_o may_v without_o offence_n or_o breach_n of_o conscience_n yield_v to_o suspect_v and_o judge_v evil_a of_o another_o ii_o question_n how_o may_v we_o give_v upright_o paul_n call_v the_o galatian_n fool_n gal._n 3._o 1._o and_o the_o cretan_n liar_n evil_a beast_n slow_a belly_n tit._n 1._o 12_o 13._o all_o which_o be_v hard_a speech_n but_o yet_o no_o slander_n because_o they_o have_v all_o of_o they_o a_o call_n so_o to_o do_v and_o likewise_o do_v this_o on_o good_a ground_n and_o for_o a_o good_a end_n thus_o much_o for_o the_o commandment_n now_o follow_v two_o reason_n to_o induce_v judgement_n we_o to_o make_v conscience_n of_o rash_a judgement_n the_o former_a be_v lay_v down_o in_o these_o word_n that_o you_o be_v not_o judge_v and_o it_o may_v be_v frame_v thus_o if_o you_o judge_v you_o shall_v be_v judge_v of_o man_n again_o with_o rash_a judgement_n but_o you_o can_v abide_v to_o be_v judge_v of_o rash_o and_o therefore_o judge_v speak_v of_o we_o be_v present_o fill_v with_o malice_n and_o envy_n and_o can_v be_v at_o rest_n till_o we_o be_v requite_v or_o revenge_v nay_o though_o we_o be_v in_o a_o good_a manner_n admonish_v either_o of_o the_o church_n or_o out_o of_o the_o church_n concern_v humane_a thing_n as_o book_n of_o natural_a philosophy_n of_o policy_n and_o other_o art_n and_o these_o be_v not_o the_o book_n of_o god_n but_o of_o man_n alone_o have_v both_o matter_n and_o style_n from_o man_n many_o of_o they_o contain_v excellent_a truth_n in_o their_o kind_n yet_o gather_v only_o from_o experience_n and_o common_a reason_n but_o they_o have_v not_o in_o they_o that_o truth_n which_o be_v truth_n according_a to_o godliness_n serve_v to_o build_v up_o and_o to_o bind_v the_o conscience_n unless_o it_o be_v in_o one_o case_n to_o stop_v the_o mouth_n of_o atheist_n and_o epicure_n and_o to_o convince_v their_o conscience_n and_o thus_o by_o conference_n of_o all_o book_n we_o see_v that_o scripture_n alone_o be_v authentical_a in_o itself_o and_o no_o book_n beside_o uses_n 1._o this_o teach_v we_o that_o minister_n in_o the_o dispense_n of_o god_n preach_v word_n shall_v content_v themselves_o with_o the_o testimony_n of_o scripture_n alone_o for_o the_o end_n of_o the_o ministry_n be_v to_o work_v and_o confirm_v faith_n and_o to_o settle_v and_o build_v up_o the_o conscience_n in_o the_o truth_n of_o religion_n and_o matter_n concern_v salvation_n which_o no_o other_o word_n can_v do_v save_v only_o the_o word_n of_o god_n in_o scripture_n that_o have_v sufficient_a authority_n in_o itself_o from_o which_o conscience_n can_v appeal_v and_o for_o which_o cause_n our_o saviour_n christ_n the_o true_a prophet_n of_o the_o church_n content_v himself_o with_o the_o testimony_n of_o the_o law_n and_o prophet_n alone_o and_o after_o he_o his_o apostle_n do_v the_o like_a see_v this_o notable_o confirm_v by_o paul_n who_o in_o his_o preach_n to_o the_o their_o time_n and_o place_n but_o not_o in_o the_o public_a ministry_n for_o authority_n and_o testimony_n from_o scripture_n be_v authentical_a this_o the_o scripture_n say_v therefore_o it_o be_v so_o but_o authority_n from_o counsel_n and_o father_n â—is_n sophistry_n as_o austin_n say_v so_o therefore_o it_o be_v so_o this_o be_v no_o good_a reason_n for_o it_o imply_v that_o all_o that_o austin_n say_v be_v true_a which_o indeed_o be_v false_a â—ee_z be_v as_o all_o man_n be_v subject_a to_o error_n 2._o use._n this_o also_o show_v that_o we_o can_v believe_v unwritten_a tradition_n himself_o have_v speak_v it_o and_o yet_o the_o person_n of_o christ_n be_v above_o the_o person_n of_o moses_n &_o of_o all_o the_o prophet_n for_o he_o be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n both_o god_n &_o â—an_v they_o be_v man_n he_o be_v the_o author_n of_o truth_n they_o only_o the_o instrument_n &_o penman_n thereof_o &_o from_o hence_o it_o come_v that_o christ_n doctrine_n do_v more_o bind_v we_o to_o obedience_n then_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o prophet_n because_o the_o person_n deliver_v it_o be_v of_o more_o authority_n &_o excellency_n and_o for_o this_o cause_n christ_n allege_n moses_n and_o the_o prophet_n not_o for_o that_o his_o word_n be_v inferior_a to_o they_o but_o that_o in_o regard_n of_o our_o obedience_n he_o may_v increase_v the_o authority_n of_o moses_n and_o the_o prophet_n because_o a_o great_a measure_n of_o obedience_n be_v require_v to_o christ_n word_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o dignity_n of_o his_o person_n and_o this_o show_n that_o we_o now_o be_v more_o bind_v to_o obedience_n under_o the_o gospel_n than_o the_o people_n veer_fw-mi under_o the_o law_n for_o we_o have_v christ_n doctrine_n which_o in_o regard_n of_o â—is_n person_n be_v of_o more_o in_o their_o life_n so_o that_o if_o we_o look_v into_o the_o general_a state_n of_o our_o people_n we_o shall_v see_v that_o religion_n be_v profess_v but_o not_o obey_v nay_o obedience_n be_v count_v preciseness_n and_o so_o reproach_v but_o we_o must_v know_v that_o in_o the_o end_n this_o profane_v of_o religion_n will_v soon_o turn_v all_o god_n blessing_n temporal_a and_o spiritual_a into_o fearful_a curse_n both_o of_o body_n and_o soul_n if_o ever_o any_o thing_n bring_v ruin_n upon_o we_o it_o will_v be_v the_o contempt_n of_o god_n word_n profess_v and_o therefore_o let_v we_o in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n endeavour_v ourselves_o not_o only_o to_o know_v and_o hear_v the_o word_n of_o god_n but_o to_o turn_v unto_o god_n from_o all_o sin_n and_o especial_o in_o regard_n of_o a_o great_a show_n of_o piety_n in_o profession_n and_o a_o true_a believer_n who_o life_n and_o conversation_n be_v answerable_a to_o his_o profession_n for_o a_o true_a professor_n may_v fall_v into_o sin_n very_o fearful_o as_o peter_n and_o david_n do_v and_o yet_o recover_v again_o also_o he_o that_o be_v a_o most_o notorious_a sinner_n as_o manasses_n be_v may_v be_v convert_v and_o repent_v but_o when_o a_o professor_n that_o be_v a_o hypocrite_n in_o religion_n be_v try_v he_o fall_v quite_o from_o christ_n and_o make_v apostasy_n from_o his_o profession_n and_o in_o this_o
