from_o reason_n be_v this_o the_o order_n beauty_n and_o perfection_n of_o the_o world_n require_v that_o in_o the_o universe_n shall_v be_v agent_n of_o all_o sort_n some_o necessary_a some_o free_a some_o contingent_a he_o that_o shall_v make_v all_o thing_n necessary_a all_o thing_n free_a or_o all_o thing_n contingent_a do_v overthrow_v the_o beauty_n and_o perfection_n of_o the_o world_n in_o which_o argument_n i_o observe_v first_o a_o contradiction_n for_o see_v he_o that_o make_v any_o thing_n in_o that_o he_o make_v it_o make_v it_o to_o be_v necessary_a it_o follow_v that_o he_o that_o make_v all_o thing_n make_v all_o thing_n necessary_o to_o be_v as_o if_o a_o workman_n make_v a_o garment_n the_o garment_n must_v necessary_o be_v so_o if_o god_n make_v every_o thing_n every_o thing_n must_v necessary_o be_v perhaps_o the_o beauty_n of_o the_o world_n require_v though_o we_o know_v it_o not_o that_o some_o agent_n shall_v work_v without_o deliberation_n which_o his_o lordship_n call_v necessary_a agent_n and_o some_o agent_n with_o deliberation_n and_o those_o both_o he_o and_o i_o call_v free_a agent_n and_o that_o some_o agent_n shall_v work_v and_o we_o not_o know_v how_o and_o their_o effect_n we_o both_o call_v contingent_n but_o this_o hinder_v not_o but_o that_o he_o that_o elect_v may_v have_v his_o election_n necessary_o determine_v to_o one_o by_o former_a cause_n and_o that_o which_o be_v contingent_a and_o impute_v to_o fortune_n be_v nevertheless_o necessary_a and_o depend_v on_o precedent_n necessary_a cause_n for_o by_o contingent_a man_n do_v not_o mean_v that_o which_o have_v no_o cause_n but_o that_o which_o have_v not_o for_o cause_v any_o thing_n that_o we_o perceive_v as_o for_o example_n when_o a_o traveller_n meet_v with_o a_o shower_n the_o journey_n have_v a_o cause_n and_o the_o rain_n have_v a_o cause_n sufficient_a to_o produce_v it_o but_o because_o the_o journey_n cause_v not_o the_o rain_n nor_o the_o rain_n the_o journey_n we_o say_v they_o be_v contingent_a one_o to_o another_o and_o thus_o you_o see_v that_o though_o there_o be_v three_o sort_n of_o event_n necessary_a contingent_a and_o free_a yet_o they_o may_v be_v all_o necessary_a without_o destruction_n of_o the_o beauty_n or_o perfection_n of_o the_o universe_n to_o the_o first_o argument_n from_o reason_n which_o be_v that_o if_o liberty_n be_v take_v away_o the_o nature_n and_o formel_n reason_n of_o sin_n be_v take_v away_o i_o answer_v by_o deny_v the_o consequence_n the_o nature_n of_o sin_n consist_v in_o this_o that_o the_o action_n do_v proceed_v from_o our_o will_n and_o be_v against_o the_o law_n a_o judge_n in_o judge_v whether_o it_o be_v sin_n or_o no_o which_o be_v do_v against_o the_o law_n look_v at_o no_o high_a cause_n of_o the_o action_n than_o the_o will_n of_o the_o doer_n now_o when_o i_o say_v the_o action_n be_v necessary_a i_o do_v not_o say_v it_o be_v do_v against_o the_o will_n of_o the_o doer_n but_o with_o his_o will_n and_o necessary_o because_o man_n will_n that_o be_v every_o volition_n or_o act_n of_o the_o will_n and_o purpose_n of_o man_n have_v a_o sufficient_a and_o therefore_o a_o necessary_a cause_n and_o consequent_o every_o voluntary_a action_n be_v necessitate_v a_o action_n therefore_o may_v be_v voluntary_a and_o a_o sin_n and_o nevertheless_o be_v necessary_a and_o because_o god_n may_v afflict_v by_o a_o right_n derive_v from_o his_o omnipotence_n though_o sin_n be_v not_o and_o because_o the_o example_n of_o punishment_n on_o voluntary_a sinner_n be_v the_o cause_n that_o produce_v justice_n and_o make_v sin_n less_o frequent_a for_o god_n to_o punish_v such_o sinner_n as_o i_o have_v say_v before_o be_v no_o injustice_n and_o thus_o you_o have_v my_o answer_n to_o his_o lordship_n objection_n both_o out_o of_o scripture_n and_o from_o reason_n certain_a distinction_n which_o his_o lordship_n suppose_v may_v be_v bring_v to_o evade_v his_o argument_n be_v by_o he_o remove_v he_o say_v a_o man_n may_v perhaps_o answer_v that_o the_o necessity_n of_o thing_n hold_v by_o he_o be_v not_o a_o stoical_a necessity_n but_o a_o christian_a necessity_n etc._n etc._n but_o this_o distinction_n i_o have_v not_o use_v nor_o indeed_o ever_o hear_v before_o nor_o can_v i_o think_v any_o man_n can_v make_v stoical_a and_o christian_a two_o kind_n of_o necessity_n though_o they_o may_v be_v two_o kind_n of_o doctrine_n nor_o have_v i_o draw_v my_o answer_n to_o his_o lordship_n argument_n from_o the_o authority_n of_o any_o sect_n but_o from_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o thing_n themselves_o but_o here_o i_o must_v take_v notice_n of_o certain_a word_n of_o his_o lordship_n in_o this_o place_n as_o make_v against_o his_o own_o tenet_n where_o all_o the_o cause_n say_v he_o be_v join_v together_o and_o subordinate_a one_o to_o another_o do_v make_v but_o one_o total_a cause_n if_o any_o one_o cause_n much_o more_o the_o first_o in_o the_o whole_a series_n or_o subordination_n of_o cause_n be_v necessary_a it_o determine_v the_o rest_n and_o without_o doubt_n make_v the_o effect_n necessary_a for_o that_o which_o i_o call_v the_o necessary_a cause_n of_o any_o effect_n be_v the_o join_v together_o of_o all_o cause_n subordinate_a to_o the_o first_o into_o one_o total_a cause_n if_o any_o of_o these_o
