improvement_n of_o the_o english_a to_o their_o uttermost_a power_n they_o threaten_v all_o the_o english_a to_o be_v go_v by_o a_o time_n or_o they_o will_v destroy_v they_o utter_o and_o indeed_o they_o give_v out_o public_o that_o their_o purpose_n be_v total_o to_o extirp_v the_o english_a and_o protestant_n and_o not_o to_o lay_v down_o arm_n until_o by_o a_o act_n of_o parliament_n here_o the_o romish_a religion_n be_v establish_v and_o that_o the_o government_n be_v settle_v in_o the_o hand_n of_o native_n and_o all_o the_o old_a irish_a restore_v to_o the_o land_n of_o their_o suppose_a ancestor_n these_o and_o other_o misery_n and_o calamity_n the_o english_a and_o protestant_n of_o all_o condition_n here_o do_v suffer_v which_o we_o can_v mention_v without_o horror_n and_o grief_n of_o heart_n beside_o in_o these_o high_a disturbance_n and_o general_a mischief_n the_o irish_a inhabit_v on_o the_o border_n of_o the_o county_n of_o meath_z and_o lowth_v adjoin_v to_o the_o county_n of_o cavan_n and_o monaghan_n do_v make_v daily_a incursion_n on_o all_o the_o english_a near_o they_o and_o rob_v and_o spoil_v they_o of_o all_o they_o have_v whereby_o many_o be_v utter_o undo_v and_o ruin_v in_o their_o estate_n the_o rebel_n find_v their_o number_n to_o increase_v which_o we_o be_v inform_v to_o be_v very_o many_o and_o in_o many_o place_n insomuch_o as_o it_o be_v conceive_v that_o they_o be_v not_o less_o than_o thirty_o thousand_o already_o declare_v assemble_v themselves_o in_o great_a party_n who_o notwithstanding_o we_o dare_v meet_v with_o far_o few_o number_n as_o we_o hope_v to_o be_v arm_v and_o horse_v they_o for_o the_o most_o part_n be_v as_o yet_o mean_o provide_v of_o any_o arm_n or_o munition_n but_o such_o only_a as_o they_o get_v from_o the_o english_a who_o they_o rob_v and_o the_o king_n magazine_n which_o they_o surprise_v they_o send_v a_o party_n of_o their_o man_n to_o the_o town_n of_o dundalk_v a_o ancient_a corporation_n which_o hold_v firm_a to_o the_o crown_n in_o all_o the_o time_n of_o the_o late_a rebellion_n in_o this_o kingdom_n when_o they_o approach_v the_o town_n on_o saturday_n last_o it_o be_v render_v up_o to_o they_o without_o a_o blow_n strike_v in_o the_o defence_n of_o it_o they_o be_v now_o advance_v immediate_o to_o drogheda_n a_o wall_v town_n upon_o the_o sea_n coast_n within_o twenty_o mile_n of_o dublin_n and_o if_o they_o can_v prevail_v there_o it_o be_v conceive_v they_o will_v march_v immediate_o hither_o to_o besiege_v this_o city_n and_o castle_n in_o this_o straight_a and_o therein_o our_o extreme_a want_n of_o money_n and_o arm_n as_o well_o as_o man_n add_v to_o our_o grief_n we_o conceive_v it_o become_v of_o absolute_a necessity_n to_o find_v mean_n to_o employ_v some_o strength_n as_o well_o to_o deter_v the_o rebel_n and_o their_o adherent_n as_o to_o countenance_n and_o if_o it_o be_v possible_a to_o preserve_v the_o good_a subject_n especial_o in_o these_o part_n and_o therefore_o have_v send_v what_o supply_v of_o arm_n and_o munition_n we_o can_v to_o drogheda_n we_o raise_v here_o a_o thousand_o foot_n consist_v of_o as_o many_o english_a as_o we_o can_v possible_o gather_v yet_o a_o great_a part_n of_o they_o be_v irish_a who_o we_o be_v necessitate_v to_o trust_v and_o have_v arm_v they_o and_o they_o be_v now_o march_v with_o two_o troop_n of_o horse_n towards_o drogheda_n but_o if_o through_o the_o defection_n of_o these_o irish_a in_o that_o regiment_n or_o any_o other_o accident_n it_o shall_v so_o happen_v as_o god_n forbid_v that_o the_o rebel_n shall_v prevail_v against_o they_o then_o consider_v the_o present_a state_n and_o condition_n of_o this_o city_n we_o must_v utter_o despair_v of_o be_v able_a to_o keep_v it_o against_o the_o rebel_n unless_o we_o be_v with_o all_o possible_a speed_n relieve_v from_o thence_o with_o man_n money_n and_o arm_n and_o on_o the_o other_o side_n not_o to_o send_v forth_o those_o troop_n will_v be_v extreme_o dangerous_a as_o give_v not_o only_o too_o much_o heart_n to_o the_o rebel_n when_o they_o shall_v see_v themselves_o able_a to_o come_v so_o far_o without_o resistance_n but_o also_o great_a discouragement_n and_o terror_n to_o the_o well_o affect_v when_o they_o shall_v see_v we_o unable_a to_o show_v any_o strength_n for_o their_o defence_n we_o hold_v it_o our_o duty_n thus_o to_o acquaint_v your_o lordship_n with_o the_o lamentable_a state_n wherein_o this_o kingdom_n stand_v that_o so_o his_o majesty_n and_o the_o parliament_n there_o may_v understand_v it_o and_o then_o we_o hope_v they_o will_v provide_v for_o relieve_v we_o immediate_o with_o ten_o thousand_o foot_n and_o one_o thousand_o horse_n for_o the_o present_a well_o arm_v and_o further_o provision_n of_o arm_n to_o furnish_v the_o store_n as_o also_o some_o able_a commander_n and_o one_o hundred_o thousand_o pound_n in_o money_n to_o pay_v they_o and_o answer_v other_o occasion_n here_o which_o be_v now_o speedy_o send_v we_o may_v prevent_v the_o effusion_n of_o very_a much_o english_a blood_n and_o the_o vast_a expense_n of_o treasure_n hereafter_o which_o must_v of_o necessity_n be_v spend_v if_o we_o be_v not_o present_o thus_o relieve_v we_o must_v also_o make_v know_v to_o your_o lordship_n that_o upon_o this_o occasion_n many_o of_o the_o nobleman_n and_o gentry_n of_o the_o pale_a come_v to_o we_o for_o arm_n as_o also_o many_o in_o this_o city_n and_o other_o town_n we_o hold_v it_o the_o safe_a way_n to_o avoid_v their_o suspicion_n of_o our_o jealousy_n of_o they_o and_o so_o we_o yield_v to_o set_v some_o prime_a man_n and_o some_o county_n also_o to_o have_v arm_n and_o munition_n for_o their_o defence_n against_o the_o rebel_n upon_o deep_a profession_n of_o their_o loyalty_n to_o the_o crown_n who_o we_o hope_v will_v be_v a_o strength_n to_o we_o but_o however_o there_o be_v no_o safety_n to_o let_v they_o lodge_v any_o thought_n of_o jealousy_n in_o we_o against_o they_o and_o our_o issue_v of_o arm_n in_o that_o manner_n have_v very_o much_o lessen_v our_o store_n sir_n faithful_a fortescue_n come_v late_o from_o drogheda_n show_v we_o a_o paper_n which_o he_o tell_v we_o be_v drop_v under_o a_o stall_n at_o drogheda_n and_o so_o be_v bring_v to_o he_o it_o seem_v to_o be_v a_o declaration_n of_o some_o of_o the_o reason_n pretend_v by_o the_o rebel_n for_o take_v up_o arm_n which_o paper_n we_o humble_o offer_v to_o your_o lordship_n here_o enclose_v as_o also_o two_o proclamation_n publish_v by_o we_o by_o occasion_n of_o this_o rebellion_n since_o our_o last_o dispatch_n to_o the_o lord_n lieutenant_n the_o lord_n magwire_n and_o mr._n mahow_v the_o two_o principal_a prisoner_n we_o solicitor_n from_o this_o state_n to_o attend_v his_o majesty_n and_o your_o lordship_n that_o so_o by_o his_o majesty_n gracious_a interposition_n and_o your_o lordship_n mediation_n for_o we_o to_o the_o parliament_n there_o the_o succour_n we_o expect_v may_v be_v seat_n we_o which_o if_o they_o come_v not_o immediate_o we_o crave_v leave_v to_o repeat_v it_o again_o and_o again_o the_o kingdom_n will_v be_v utter_o lose_v and_o all_o the_o english_a and_o protestant_n in_o ireland_n destroy_v and_o so_o england_n instead_o of_o subject_n will_v have_v enemy_n here_o who_o
