under_o sin_n they_o can_v go_v to_o god_n and_o tell_v god_n their_o affliction_n and_o challenge_v god_n with_o a_o holy_a boldness_n in_o affliction_n but_o who_o can_v go_v to_o god_n and_o challenge_n god_n because_o he_o have_v tell_v a_o lie_n or_o the_o like_a do_v this_o make_v they_o go_v with_o a_o holy_a boldness_n to_o god_n and_o challenge_v god_n promise_v because_o i_o have_v commit_v such_o and_o such_o a_o sin_n second_o when_o affliction_n do_v come_v a_o gracious_a heart_n can_v kiss_v the_o rod_n and_o accept_v of_o the_o punishment_n of_o his_o sin_n but_o now_o a_o gracious_a heart_n can_v never_o be_v well_o please_v with_o his_o sin_n can_v never_o accept_v of_o sin_n though_o god_n punish_v one_o sin_n with_o another_o sometime_o yet_o i_o say_v there_o can_v be_v a_o well_o pleasedness_n with_o sin_n and_o a_o kiss_n of_o that_o three_o a_o gracious_a heart_n may_v rejoice_v in_o affliction_n and_o have_v abundance_n of_o comfort_n in_o affliction_n account_v it_o all_o joy_n say_v the_o holy_a ghost_n when_o you_o fall_v into_o trial_n and_o affliction_n but_o now_o he_o can_v never_o rejoice_v in_o sin_n no_o man_n can_v rejoice_v in_o sin_n though_o god_n shall_v turn_v sin_n to_o never_o so_o much_o good_a one_o can_v rejoice_v in_o sin_n and_o have_v that_o comfort_n he_o may_v in_o affliction_n four_o a_o gracious_a heart_n may_v bless_v god_n for_o affliction_n bless_v god_n that_o ever_o he_o do_v cast_v he_o into_o a_o afflict_a estate_n but_o he_o can_v never_o bless_v god_n for_o put_v he_o into_o a_o sinful_a estate_n though_o god_n do_v work_v good_a out_o of_o it_o nay_o further_o that_o good_a a_o gracious_a heart_n have_v sometime_o by_o affliction_n may_v encourage_v he_o to_o be_v more_o willing_a to_o go_v into_o affliction_n again_o when_o god_n call_v he_o to_o it_o but_o if_o a_o gracious_a heart_n shall_v get_v good_a occasional_o by_o sin_n yet_o this_o good_a can_v encourage_v he_o to_o fall_v into_o sin_n again_o this_o be_v a_o desperate_a wickedness_n if_o he_o shall_v five_o a_o gracious_a heart_n may_v desire_v of_o god_n that_o he_o will_v not_o take_v away_o affliction_n till_o it_o be_v sanctify_v and_o that_o he_o will_v continue_v it_o till_o it_o be_v sanctify_v but_o no_o man_n may_v or_o aught_o to_o pray_v thus_o lord_n continue_v i_o in_o this_o sin_n till_o i_o be_o humble_v therefore_o you_o see_v there_o be_v abundance_n of_o difference_n between_o affliction_n and_o sin_n one_o have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o good_a annex_v to_o it_o and_o the_o other_o have_v that_o which_o will_v sweeten_v it_o that_o which_o be_v never_o so_o venomous_a yet_o be_v capable_a of_o such_o thing_n as_o will_v make_v it_o wholesome_a but_o sin_n be_v so_o dark_a that_o it_o be_v uncapable_a of_o light_n so_o bitter_a as_o there_o be_v no_o way_n to_o make_v it_o sweet_a so_o venomous_a as_o it_o be_v no_o way_n capable_a of_o any_o wholsomness_n now_o for_o the_o clear_n of_o this_o consider_v these_o three_o thing_n 1._o put_v all_o the_o good_a in_o heaven_n and_o earth_n and_o in_o all_o the_o creature_n in_o heaven_n and_o earth_n together_o suppose_v the_o quintiscence_n of_o all_o the_o good_a of_o all_o the_o creature_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n be_v put_v together_o and_o bring_v that_o to_o sin_n and_o add_v it_o to_o it_o it_o will_v not_o make_v it_o good_a no_o sin_n will_v remain_v still_o as_o evil_a as_o before_o it_o be_v now_o that_o must_v needs_o be_v poison_n indeed_o that_o bring_v all_o the_o sovereign_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n and_o put_v to_o it_o yet_o there_o will_v not_o be_v a_o deminishion_n of_o the_o least_o strength_n of_o that_o poison_n and_o so_o it_o be_v with_o sin_n therefore_o i_o beseech_v you_o brethren_n observe_v it_o those_o man_n and_o woman_n be_v mighty_o mistake_v that_o think_v i_o have_v be_v a_o sinful_a creature_n indeed_o but_o now_o i_o will_v amend_v and_o reform_v and_o be_v better_o that_o by_o add_v some_o good_a to_o their_o former_a sinful_a life_n it_o will_v make_v all_o good_a oh_o know_v that_o there_o be_v so_o much_o evil_n in_o sin_n that_o the_o addition_n of_o all_o the_o good_a of_o all_o the_o creature_n in_o heaven_n and_o earth_n can_v make_v it_o less_o evil_a than_o before_o so_o that_o you_o must_v not_o only_o now_o think_v to_o live_v better_a &_o add_v good_a unto_o your_o former_a evil_n but_o you_o must_v take_v a_o course_n for_o the_o take_v away_o of_o the_o former_a evil_n for_o the_o deliver_v you_o from_o the_o guilt_n and_o stain_n and_o filth_n of_o your_o former_a sin_n 2._o sin_n be_v not_o capable_a of_o good_a all_o those_o good_a end_n that_o any_o man_n have_v in_o the_o commission_n of_o sin_n yet_o do_v not_o make_v their_o sin_n the_o better_a that_o can_v make_v sin_n good_a because_o they_o have_v good_a end_n as_o thus_o there_o may_v be_v three_o good_a end_n some_o may_v think_v they_o have_v in_o the_o commission_n of_o sin_n 1_o they_o may_v perhaps_o think_v that_o by_o commission_n of_o some_o sin_n they_o may_v further_o some_o grace_n do_v good_a to_o other_o or_o glorify_v god_n there_o may_v be_v such_o deceit_n in_o the_o heart_n as_o thus_o 1_o they_o may_v think_v such_o a_o sin_n will_v help_v such_o a_o grace_n and_o help_v against_o such_o a_o temptation_n and_o such_o a_o sin_n may_v help_v my_o humility_n and_o it_o be_v ordinary_a this_o temptation_n when_o in_o trouble_n of_o conscience_n make_v away_o thyself_o and_o then_o thou_o will_v sin_v no_o more_o for_o so_o long_o as_o i_o live_v i_o shall_v sin_v against_o god_n &_o therefore_o make_v away_o thyself_o and_o so_o cease_v to_o sin_n but_o know_v if_o thou_o lay_v violent_a hand_n upon_o thyself_o and_o the_o whole_a world_n to_o perish_v rather_o than_o commit_v one_o sin_n there_o be_v so_o much_o evil_n in_o sin_n it_o be_v the_o expression_n of_o augustine_n in_o a_o tractate_n of_o his_o concern_v a_o officious_a lie_n a_o friend_n of_o his_o write_v to_o he_o to_o answer_v this_o question_n about_o tell_v of_o a_o lie_n whether_o he_o may_v not_o tell_v a_o lie_n to_o do_v good_a to_o another_o man_n many_o think_v what_o though_o i_o do_v tell_v a_o lie_n so_o i_o do_v another_o good_a indeed_o if_o i_o may_v do_v hurt_v than_o i_o must_v not_o but_o if_o i_o may_v do_v good_a may_v i_o not_o tell_v a_o lie_n well_o this_o question_n be_v bring_v to_o augustine_n and_o say_v he_o thou_o must_v not_o tell_v a_o lie_n to_o save_v the_o whole_a world_n this_o be_v his_o shall_v be_v venture_v for_o sin_n why_o because_o sin_n have_v no_o good_a and_o will_v you_o venture_v the_o loss_n of_o good_a to_o get_v that_o which_o have_v no_o good_a sure_o if_o sin_n have_v no_o good_a in_o it_o than_o there_o shall_v not_o be_v the_o loss_n of_o any_o good_a venture_v for_o it_o you_o will_v not_o venture_v at_o sea_n or_o land_n any_o good_a for_o that_o which_o have_v no_o good_a oh_o how_o infinite_o be_v man_n deoeive_v that_o venture_v the_o loss_n of_o god_n peace_n of_o conscience_n loss_n of_o credit_n health_n estate_n loss_n of_o all_o for_o their_o lust_n than_o we_o ought_v to_o make_v nothing_o that_o be_v good_a to_o be_v any_o way_n serviceable_a to_o our_o sin_n as_o thus_o we_o must_v not_o take_v the_o good_a creature_n of_o god_n and_o make_v they_o serviceable_a to_o our_o lust_n that_o have_v no_o good_a at_o all_o take_v not_o the_o faculty_n of_o your_o soul_n and_o member_n of_o your_o body_n to_o make_v they_o serviceable_a to_o your_o lust_n oh_o how_o do_v man_n and_o woman_n abuse_v the_o good_a thing_n of_o god_n to_o make_v they_o serve_v their_o corruption_n yea_o brethren_n there_o be_v many_o that_o abuse_v the_o ordinance_n of_o god_n the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n the_o grace_n of_o god_n spirit_n to_o make_v they_o serviceable_a to_o their_o lust_n to_o serve_v their_o pride_n and_o self_n end_v and_o self_n seeking_n do_v but_o think_v of_o it_o if_o it_o be_v a_o great_a wickedness_n to_o take_v meat_n and_o drink_n any_o of_o god_n good_a creature_n and_o make_v they_o serviceable_a to_o thy_o lust_n oh_o how_o great_a a_o wickedness_n be_v it_o to_o take_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n spirit_n work_v of_o god_n spirit_n enlargement_n in_o prayer_n and_o follow_v of_o sermon_n and_o profession_n of_o religion_n to_o make_v these_o serve_v thy_o lust_n that_o have_v no_o good_a at_o all_o in_o they_o the_o six_o consectory_n hence_o if_o sin_n have_v no_o good_a at_o all_o in_o it_o follow_v this_o how_o be_v they_o mistake_v that_o make_v sin_v their_o chief_a good_a as_o thousand_o thousand_o in_o the_o world_n their_o chief_a good_a that_o their_o heart_n be_v set_v upon_o be_v satisfy_v themselves_o in_o some_o base_a lust_n i_o put_v it_o to_o your_o soul_n this_o day_n as_o in_o the_o name_n of_o god_n what_o be_v it_o that_o thy_o heart_n be_v set_v upon_o as_o thy_o chief_a good_n be_v it_o not_o that_o height_n of_o wickedness_n that_o i_o speak_v of_o such_o a_o secret_a lust_n thou_o live_v in_o that_o thou_o venture_v thy_o eternal_a estate_n upon_o oh_o wickedness_n above_o measure_n the_o seven_o consectory_n hence_o follow_v this_o then_o that_o all_o the_o time_n that_o we_o spend_v in_o a_o sinful_a estate_n be_v all_o lose_a time_n oh_o look_v to_o this_o you_o young_a one_o all_o the_o time_n that_o you_o spend_v in_o the_o vanity_n of_o your_o youth_n be_v all_o lose_a time_n and_o you_o that_o have_v live_v till_o you_o be_v old_a &_o a_o long_a time_n in_o a_o sinful_a estate_n you_o have_v lose_v all_o your_o time_n oh_o the_o time_n upon_o which_o eternity_n depend_v be_v all_o lose_v for_o you_o have_v spend_v it_o in_o the_o way_n of_o sin_n that_o have_v no_o good_a in_o it_o the_o eight_o consectory_n if_o sin_n have_v no_o good_a in_o it_o than_o all_o wicked_a man_n that_o live_v in_o the_o way_n of_o sin_n be_v useless_a member_n in_o the_o world_n burden_n upon_o the_o earth_n unprofitable_a member_n that_o go_v on_o in_o the_o way_n of_o sin_n that_o neither_o have_v nor_o can_v have_v any_o good_a the_o nine_o consectory_n last_o if_o sin_n have_v no_o good_a at_o all_o in_o it_o hence_o then_o when_o there_o be_v a_o temptation_n to_o sin_n there_o need_v no_o deliberation_n about_o it_o whether_o it_o shall_v be_v admit_v or_o not_o if_o once_o thou_o know_v it_o to_o be_v a_o sin_n thou_o need_v not_o reason_v the_o condtion_n of_o admission_n or_o not_o or_o what_o will_v follow_v but_o present_o reject_v it_o without_o deliberation_n why_o because_o there_o be_v no_o good_a in_o it_o any_o thing_n that_o have_v but_o a_o little_a good_a we_o may_v though_o a_o great_a good_n be_v offer_v deliberate_v the_o business_n before_o we_o accept_v of_o the_o one_o &_o cast_v off_o the_o other_o but_o if_o there_o be_v no_o good_a there_o need_v no_o deliberation_n if_o any_o thing_n be_v pronounce_v to_o be_v sin_n to_o be_v prejudicial_a to_o the_o estate_n of_o thy_o soul_n this_o must_v not_o be_v deliberate_v upon_o therefore_o this_o be_v a_o vain_a plea_n that_o fourteen_o sin_n wrong_a god_n in_o the_o end_n for_o which_o he_o have_v make_v all_o thing_n fourthly_o sin_n wrong_v god_n in_o the_o end_n for_o which_o he_o have_v make_v all_o thing_n which_o be_v his_o own_o glory_n now_o we_o know_v that_o of_o all_o thing_n a_o man_n can_v endure_v to_o be_v wrong_v in_o his_o end_n when_o he_o have_v a_o end_n to_o such_o &_o such_o a_o thing_n and_o aim_v to_o bring_v such_o and_o such_o a_o thing_n to_o pass_v though_o he_o shall_v be_v frustrate_v in_o regard_n of_o some_o mean_n this_o trouble_v he_o not_o but_o when_o he_o come_v to_o lose_v his_o end_n this_o trouble_v he_o exceed_o thus_o it_o be_v with_o a_o sinner_n he_o set_v himself_o against_o god_n to_o do_v what_o lie_v in_o he_o that_o god_n shall_v lose_v his_o end_n of_o all_o can_v help_v it_o god_n shall_v have_v no_o glory_n in_o the_o world_n i_o say_v you_o that_o walk_v on_o in_o way_n of_o sin_n this_o you_o be_v charge_v with_o in_o the_o name_n of_o god_n this_o of_o all_o glory_n and_o honour_n in_o the_o world_n have_v he_o not_o make_v all_o creature_n for_o his_o glory_n and_o if_o i_o have_v never_o be_v bear_v and_o never_o have_v have_v a_o be_v god_n shall_v never_o have_v be_v so_o dishonour_v he_o will_v have_v have_v more_o glory_n if_o i_o have_v never_o be_v if_o god_n have_v make_v i_o a_o dog_n or_o a_o toad_n a_o snake_n or_o a_o serpent_n the_o devil_n be_v proud_a you_o will_v say_v as_o proud_a as_o lucifer_n the_o devil_n despair_n they_o be_v the_o most_o despair_a creature_n in_o the_o world_n and_o yet_o the_o most_o proud_a mediation_n of_o my_o son_n i_o will_v forgive_v thou_o will_v this_o quiet_a the_o soul_n so_o as_o it_o will_v be_v no_o more_o trouble_v and_o sorry_a for_o sin_n no._n now_o the_o sorrow_n come_v in_o another_o way_n and_o be_v this_o the_o god_n i_o have_v wrong_v the_o gracious_a merciful_a god_n i_o have_v wrong_v that_o notwithstanding_o all_o the_o wrong_n i_o have_v do_v he_o that_o when_o he_o have_v my_o soul_n at_o a_o advantage_n and_o may_v just_o have_v send_v i_o down_o to_o the_o nethermost_a hell_n and_o will_v he_o yet_o pardon_v though_o no_o goodness_n in_o i_o and_o yet_o will_v he_o have_v such_o thought_n of_o mercy_n as_o to_o send_v his_o own_o son_n to_o make_v up_o that_o wrong_n and_o satisfy_v for_o the_o evil_n i_o have_v do_v oh_o now_o the_o heart_n stroke_n at_o the_o infinite_a glorious_a first-being_a of_o all_o thing_n and_o this_o will_v abide_v upon_o the_o heart_n therefore_o this_o be_v another_o manner_n of_o trouble_n for_o sin_n than_o the_o other_o and_o because_o this_o trouble_n for_o sin_n be_v so_o effectual_a and_o so_o good_a therefore_o it_o be_v that_o i_o have_v endeavour_v the_o more_o to_o open_v unto_o you_o how_o sin_n be_v against_o god_n therefore_o when_o i_o come_v to_o the_o other_o to_o show_v how_o it_o be_v against_o ourselves_o i_o shall_v be_v but_o brief_a in_o that_o because_o i_o know_v that_o this_o and_o indeed_o it_o be_v to_o admiration_n to_o consider_v how_o strong_a the_o union_n between_o sin_n and_o the_o soul_n be_v and_o how_o hard_o to_o make_v the_o devorce_n that_o take_v a_o man_n or_o a_o woman_n that_o apprehend_v never_o so_o much_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n against_o sin_n
take_v a_o man_n that_o lie_v as_o it_o be_v scald_a in_o god_n wrath_n his_o conscience_n burn_v and_o bring_v even_o hell_n to_o he_o that_o he_o cry_v and_o roar_v in_o the_o anguish_n of_o his_o soul_n for_o sin_n one_o will_v think_v certain_o this_o man_n will_v never_o have_v to_o do_v more_o with_o sin_n that_o be_v in_o this_o horror_n and_o anguish_n and_o trouble_v for_o sin_n for_o sin_n and_o fall_v to_o it_o again_o he_o will_v then_o be_v more_o greedy_a he_o will_v slight_v conscience_n then_o and_o scorn_v at_o conscience_n then_o and_o make_v nothing_o of_o it_o if_o once_o he_o have_v out_o stand_v conscience_n as_o a_o unruly_a horse_n if_o he_o have_v but_o once_o cast_v his_o rider_n then_o let_v he_o come_v on_o his_o back_n he_o care_v not_o for_o he_o he_o contemn_v he_o he_o will_v quick_o throw_v he_o off_o again_o so_o when_o the_o stubborn_a unruly_a lust_n of_o a_o man_n heart_n have_v once_o cast_v off_o conscience_n that_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n have_v be_v once_o under_o terror_n of_o conscience_n for_o sin_n and_o yet_o fall_v to_o it_o again_o such_o a_o man_n condition_n be_v very_o lamentable_a iâ—_n say_v not_o whole_o desperate_a i_o dare_v not_o say_v so_o for_o god_n thought_n be_v high_a than_o we_o as_o high_a as_o the_o heaven_n be_v above_o the_o earth_n but_o this_o man_n condition_n be_v very_o lamentable_a there_o be_v this_o strength_n in_o sin_n in_o the_o soul_n that_o all_o the_o terror_n in_o the_o world_n will_v not_o breed_v a_o devorce_n between_o sin_n and_o the_o soul_n but_o when_o once_o the_o soul_n can_v come_v to_o say_v with_o david_n against_o thou_o against_o thou_o only_o have_v i_o sin_v in_o my_o sin_n i_o have_v go_v against_o that_o god_n who_o be_v so_o infinite_o above_o all_o praise_n and_o glory_n this_o be_v the_o humiliation_n if_o any_o thing_n make_v a_o devorce_n between_o sin_n and_o the_o soul_n this_o will_v do_v it_o this_o be_v the_o three_o corollary_n that_o therefore_o there_o be_v very_o few_o humble_v for_o sin_n aright_o because_o not_o thus_o humble_v chap._n xviii_o the_o four_o corollary_n admire_v the_o patience_n of_o god_n in_o see_v so_o much_o his_o mouth_n be_v enough_o to_o sink_v they_o to_o the_o bottomless-pit_n yet_o god_n be_v patient_a the_o first_o second_o and_o three_o time_n yea_o a_o hundred_o time_n perhaps_o thou_o have_v be_v a_o blasphemer_n twenty_o year_n forty_o year_n a_o swearer_n and_o when_o thou_o come_v in_o company_n oh_o the_o wicked_a oath_n that_o come_v from_o thou_o and_o hideous_a uncleanness_n and_o abominable_a wickedness_n and_o yet_o god_n stand_v by_o and_o look_n upon_o the_o swearer_n and_o be_v patient_a all_o the_o while_n certain_o brethren_n there_o be_v no_o man_n in_o all_o the_o world_n that_o be_v wrong_v as_o god_n be_v and_o yet_o man_n be_v not_o able_a to_o bear_v wrong_a from_o his_o equal_a if_o he_o have_v power_n in_o his_o hand_n to_o prevent_v it_o what!_o shall_v he_o wrong_v i_o i_o will_v make_v he_o know_v what_o it_o be_v to_o wrong_v i_o you_o can_v bear_v any_o wrong_n from_o your_o fellow_n creature_n oh_o consider_v what_o wrong_a god_n have_v bear_v prayer_n and_o cost_n that_o you_o may_v not_o have_v a_o child_n a_o enemy_n to_o god_n a_o traitor_n to_o the_o crown_n sceptre_n and_o dignity_n of_o jesus_n christ_n oh_o brethren_n do_v it_o not_o pity_v your_o soul_n to_o see_v that_o infinite_a bless_a holy_a dreadful_a god_n so_o much_o wrong_v in_o the_o world_n as_o he_o be_v it_o shall_v move_v we_o to_o pity_v to_o see_v any_o argument_n to_o demonstrate_v that_o a_o sinner_n do_v not_o only_o dishonour_v and_o strike_v at_o god_n but_o sin_n be_v against_o his_o own_o soul_n against_o his_o own_o life_n against_o his_o affliction_n to_o be_v as_o grievous_a as_o the_o affliction_n of_o job_n suppose_v a_o man_n scrape_v off_o his_o sore_n upon_o the_o dunghill_n as_o job_n do_v this_o affliction_n make_v he_o not_o a_o worse_a man_n than_o he_o be_v before_o only_o it_o may_v occasion_v sin_n sometime_o and_o so_o make_v he_o worse_o but_o take_v job_n consider_v in_o his_o affliction_n only_o and_o he_o be_v he_o be_v not_o better_o if_o disgrace_n he_o be_v not_o worse_o his_o condition_n may_v be_v worse_o but_o himself_o not_o at_o all_o the_o worse_o therefore_o you_o shall_v observe_v it_o that_o so_o terrible_a and_o fearful_a as_o that_o fear_n the_o guilty_a conscience_n have_v take_v a_o man_n or_o woman_n who_o conscience_n be_v deliver_v from_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n such_o a_o one_o though_o heaven_n and_o earth_n shall_v meet_v be_v not_o so_o much_o trouble_v certain_o brethren_n in_o these_o great_a fear_n among_o we_o that_o you_o be_v scare_v at_o everything_o it_o be_v
