nonsense_n which_o be_v the_o second_o absurdity_n contain_v in_o this_o assertion_n of_o the_o jew_n which_o i_o say_v be_v obvious_a enough_o to_o be_v discern_v by_o a_o ordinary_a capacity_n for_o this_o prophecy_n be_v deliver_v upon_o this_o occasion_n ahaz_n king_n of_o judah_n be_v much_o afraid_a of_o the_o king_n of_o syria_n and_o samaria_n that_o be_v come_v to_o war_n against_o he_o present_a purpose_n which_o be_v to_o show_v that_o there_o be_v not_o any_o one_o prophecy_n in_o the_o old_a testament_n concern_v the_o messiah_n which_o we_o find_v not_o punctual_o fulfil_v even_o to_o the_o least_o tittle_n in_o the_o person_n of_o our_o saviour_n in_o that_o account_n which_o the_o evangelist_n have_v give_v we_o of_o he_o which_o sufficient_o demonstrate_v he_o to_o be_v the_o true_a messiah_n and_o their_o write_n to_o be_v of_o divine_a authority_n this_o manner_n of_o our_o saviour_n birth_n be_v very_o emphatical_o express_v by_o our_o apostle_n in_o my_o text._n god_n send_v forth_o his_o son_n make_v of_o a_o woman_n as_o he_o be_v god_n he_o be_v not_o make_v but_o beget_v of_o the_o father_n by_o a_o eternal_a and_o unspeakable_a generation_n and_o as_o he_o be_v man_n he_o be_v not_o beget_v but_o make_v of_o a_o woman_n after_o a_o unconceivable_a manner_n by_o the_o omnipotent_a power_n of_o god_n and_o thus_o it_o be_v necessary_a that_o the_o messiah_n shall_v make_v his_o entry_n into_o the_o world_n who_o be_v to_o be_v conceive_v and_o bear_v without_o sin_n sanctify_v from_o the_o womb_n holy_a harmless_a undefiled_a separate_a from_o sinner_n thus_o much_o of_o the_o four_o circumstance_n relate_v to_o the_o manner_n of_o the_o messiah_n his_o appear_v in_o the_o world_n he_o be_v to_o be_v bear_v of_o a_o virgin_n and_o so_o be_v our_o saviour_n the_o next_o thing_n to_o be_v consider_v be_v in_o what_o quality_n and_o condition_n he_o be_v to_o come_v this_o be_v that_o grand_a stumbling-block_n at_o which_o the_o jew_n be_v irreconcilable_o scandalize_v they_o be_v very_o ready_a to_o acknowledge_v that_o our_o saviour_n appear_v in_o the_o world_n in_o a_o very_a poor_a and_o despicable_a state_n and_o thus_o far_o they_o believe_v the_o gospel_n as_o well_o as_o we_o but_o because_o he_o do_v appear_v in_o such_o a_o condition_n they_o utter_o deny_v he_o to_o be_v the_o messiah_n who_o they_o still_o expect_v to_o come_v with_o exceed_v great_a pomp_n and_o splendour_n and_o glory_n become_v so_o great_a a_o king_n as_o be_v to_o sit_v for_o ever_o upon_o the_o throne_n of_o david_n and_o to_o subdue_v all_o the_o nation_n of_o the_o earth_n and_o to_o reduce_v they_o to_o his_o obedience_n have_v our_o saviour_n come_v in_o this_o manner_n and_o make_v their_o nation_n the_o head_n of_o the_o world_n it_o be_v more_o than_o probable_a that_o this_o one_o circumstance_n will_v have_v full_o satisfy_v they_o and_o without_o any_o scrupulous_a enquiry_n of_o what_o tribe_n he_o be_v bear_v of_o what_o family_n in_o what_o place_n and_o in_o what_o manner_n they_o will_v have_v unanimous_o proclaim_v he_o to_o be_v the_o true_a messiah_n the_o son_n of_o david_n and_o the_o redeemer_n of_o israel_n but_o that_o a_o person_n of_o so_o mean_a and_o obscure_v a_o birth_n as_o our_o saviour_n be_v one_o who_o as_o to_o his_o external_a condition_n make_v so_o inconsiderable_a a_o figure_n in_o the_o world_n that_o the_o carpenter_n the_o son_n of_o mary_n as_o they_o scornful_o call_v he_o shall_v declare_v himself_o to_o be_v the_o great_a of_o all_o the_o son_n of_o man_n their_o so_o long_o expect_v and_o earnest_o desire_a messiah_n the_o son_n of_o god_n and_o the_o king_n of_o israel_n they_o look_v upon_o to_o be_v so_o great_a a_o affront_n to_o their_o nation_n that_o instead_o of_o own_v he_o to_o be_v the_o messiah_n they_o reject_v he_o as_o a_o impostor_n and_o cut_v he_o off_o by_o a_o ignominious_a death_n little_o know_v that_o in_o all_o this_o they_o fulfil_v the_o scripture_n and_o that_o their_o very_a opposition_n rejection_n and_o crucifixion_n of_o he_o be_v all_o necessary_a and_o material_a argument_n which_o we_o little_o imagine_v that_o god_n will_v send_v into_o the_o world_n his_o only_o beget_v son_n the_o son_n of_o his_o eternal_a love_n in_o who_o he_o be_v well_o please_v him_z who_o be_v to_o be_v so_o high_o exalt_v and_o to_o have_v a_o name_n give_v he_o above_o every_o name_n for_o all_o the_o world_n as_o well_o as_o the_o jew_n may_v very_o reasonable_o expect_v that_o such_o a_o person_n as_o this_o will_v come_v attend_v with_o the_o most_o pompous_a and_o magnificent_a circumstance_n imaginable_a suitable_a to_o the_o grandeur_n and_o glory_n of_o he_o who_o be_v to_o be_v high_a to_o come_v in_o this_o mean_a and_o contemptible_a condition_n for_o since_o it_o be_v manifest_a from_o the_o write_n of_o the_o prophet_n that_o the_o messiah_n be_v to_o be_v a_o most_o mighty_a king_n of_o the_o increase_n of_o who_o government_n and_o peace_n there_o shall_v be_v no_o end_n upon_o the_o throne_n of_o david_n and_o upon_o his_o kingdom_n to_o order_v it_o and_o to_o establish_v it_o with_o judgement_n and_o with_o justice_n for_o ever_o if_o this_o great_a person_n be_v to_o be_v bear_v of_o mean_a parent_n in_o a_o stable_a and_o afterward_o all_o his_o life_n himself_o to_o be_v the_o messiah_n except_o the_o prophecy_n be_v real_o intend_v of_o the_o messiah_n and_o he_o in_o who_o it_o be_v so_o fulfil_v be_v that_o very_a person_n who_o it_o mean_v now_o that_o there_o be_v not_o one_o tittle_n of_o this_o prophecy_n which_o be_v not_o fulfil_v in_o the_o person_n of_o our_o saviour_n who_o profess_v himself_o to_o be_v the_o messiah_n and_o apply_v this_o prophecy_n to_o himself_o be_v evident_a in_o the_o account_n the_o evangelist_n have_v give_v we_o of_o he_o and_o then_o it_o follow_v not_o only_o that_o this_o be_v a_o prophecy_n of_o the_o messiah_n but_o also_o that_o our_o saviour_n be_v the_o messiah_n who_o it_o point_v at_o the_o second_o argument_n to_o prove_v this_o to_o be_v a_o prophecy_n of_o the_o messiah_n be_v the_o unanimous_a opinion_n of_o many_o of_o the_o ancient_a rabbi_n and_o doctor_n of_o the_o jew_n before_o and_o about_o our_o saviour_n time_n who_o all_o acknowledge_v this_o whole_a chapter_n together_o with_o the_o latter_a end_n of_o the_o former_a to_o be_v a_o prophecy_n of_o the_o messiah_n and_o therefore_o if_o the_o modern_a jew_n will_v not_o acknowledge_v as_o much_o they_o differ_v as_o much_o from_o their_o own_o writer_n as_o from_o we_o and_o no_o reason_n can_v be_v assign_v for_o their_o so_o do_v but_o their_o obstinate_a prejudice_n that_o will_v not_o suffer_v they_o to_o apply_v any_o passage_n of_o scripture_n to_o the_o messiah_n that_o seem_v to_o be_v inconsistent_a with_o worldly_a pomp_n and_o grandeur_n thus_o i_o have_v prove_v to_o you_o that_o the_o same_o truth_n may_v be_v yet_o further_o evince_v from_o the_o reason_n and_o end_n of_o his_o come_n but_o this_o i_o shall_v leave_v until_o another_o opportunity_n sermon_n iii_o gal._n
