if_o we_o believe_v 22._o 21_o 22._o we_o shall_v sure_o receive_v it_o let_v we_o not_o cease_v but_o in_o public_a and_o in_o private_a pour_v out_o our_o prayer_n unto_o the_o lord_n both_o for_o such_o grace_n as_o we_o want_v and_o for_o increase_v in_o such_o as_o we_o have_v and_o that_o we_o may_v abound_v more_o and_o more_o in_o every_o good_a grace_n continual_a need_n we_o have_v let_v we_o therefore_o as_o the_o apostle_n exhort_v pray_v continual_o even_o whatsoever_o grace_n we_o have_v let_v we_o pray_v that_o we_o may_v abound_v more_o and_o more_o therein_o the_o be_v feed_v with_o milk_n do_v afterward_o take_v and_o digest_v strong_a meat_n so_o from_o principle_n in_o religion_n we_o shall_v go_v forward_o unto_o perfection_n in_o religion_n grow_v up_o daily_o more_o and_o more_o in_o the_o unity_n of_o faith_n and_o of_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n into_o a_o perfect_a man_n add_v hereunto_o the_o example_n of_o our_o apostle_n 3.12_o psal_n 3.12_o he_o have_v attain_v unto_o a_o great_a measure_n of_o perfection_n yet_o count_v not_o himself_o that_o he_o have_v attain_v unto_o it_o but_o he_o follow_v hard_o after_o it_o that_o he_o may_v comprehend_v it_o and_o still_o endeavour_v himself_o unto_o that_o which_o be_v before_o in_o who_o example_n as_o in_o a_o glass_n we_o may_v see_v that_o we_o be_v not_o to_o rest_v in_o any_o perfection_n that_o we_o can_v grow_v unto_o in_o this_o life_n but_o still_o we_o be_v to_o go_v forward_o from_o perfection_n to_o perfection_n and_o still_o to_o labour_v to_o increase_v and_o abound_v more_o and_o more_o in_o every_o grace_n wherewith_o we_o be_v bless_v and_o how_o shall_v any_o man_n think_v otherwise_o consider_v what_o enemy_n we_o have_v which_o hinder_v our_o perfection_n for_o can_v we_o have_v the_o devil_n ever_o seek_v like_o a_o roar_a lion_n to_o devour_v we_o the_o world_n lay_v a_o thousand_o bait_n to_o deceive_v we_o our_o own_o flesh_n as_o a_o strong_a arm_a man_n evermore_o assault_v we_o so_o that_o our_o whole_a life_n be_v a_o continual_a sharp_a warfare_n unto_o we_o and_o yet_o hope_v for_o such_o perfection_n in_o this_o life_n that_o we_o need_v not_o strive_v far_o nay_o these_o continual_o bid_v we_o such_o battle_n that_o if_o either_o we_o stand_v or_o give_v back_o we_o may_v quick_o take_v the_o foil_n still_o therefore_o we_o must_v hold_v on_o and_o as_o long_o as_o the_o lord_n continue_v our_o life_n so_o long_o we_o must_v give_v all_o diligence_n to_o abound_v more_o and_o more_o in_o every_o grace_n wherein_o we_o stand_v this_o then_o serve_v to_o condemn_v the_o miserable_a corruption_n of_o our_o time_n for_o so_o it_o be_v with_o we_o that_o a_o great_a many_o of_o we_o rather_o go_v backward_o and_o grow_v worse_o and_o worse_o then_o better_o and_o better_o many_o which_o seem_v to_o have_v begin_v in_o the_o spirit_n make_v a_o end_n in_o the_o flesh_n which_o seem_v for_o a_o time_n to_o have_v run_v well_o with_o the_o galathian_o be_v with_o they_o draw_v away_o with_o diverse_a lust_n which_o drown_v they_o in_o perdition_n other_o of_o we_o pause_n at_o the_o matter_n and_o as_o if_o there_o be_v danger_n in_o every_o step_n far_o we_o stand_v at_o a_o stay_n and_o move_v not_o our_o foot_n forward_o but_o what_o do_v i_o say_v that_o we_o stand_v at_o a_o stay_n nay_o indeed_o and_o in_o truth_n we_o plain_o go_v backward_o for_o not_o to_o go_v forward_o in_o the_o way_n of_o christianity_n be_v to_o go_v backward_o and_o not_o to_o increase_v in_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n spirit_n be_v to_o decrease_v in_o they_o and_o therefore_o the_o judgement_n of_o the_o laodicean_n because_o they_o be_v not_o hot_a be_v as_o if_o they_o have_v be_v cold_a even_o to_o be_v spew_v out_o of_o the_o lord_n his_o mouth_n 3.16_o apoc._n 3.16_o other_o of_o we_o can_v be_v content_a to_o make_v a_o show_n of_o go_v forward_o and_o increase_n in_o religion_n and_o piety_n but_o it_o be_v for_o our_o advantage_n a_o gain_n that_o under_o a_o colour_n of_o zeal_n and_o forwardness_n we_o may_v the_o better_a compass_n our_o commodity_n and_o bring_v our_o purpose_n to_o pass_v for_o we_o like_v better_o of_o the_o account_n that_o gain_n shall_v be_v godliness_n than_o that_o godliness_n shall_v be_v gain_n and_o again_o we_o will_v make_v of_o a_o show_n of_o godliness_n the_o least_o number_n by_o far_o be_v of_o they_o that_o have_v begin_v well_o do_v in_o their_o soul_n labour_n after_o perfection_n that_o they_o may_v abound_v more_o and_o more_o in_o the_o grace_n wherein_o they_o stand_v but_o let_v our_o care_n belove_a be_v to_o be_v of_o this_o number_n let_v we_o so_o strive_v after_o perfection_n that_o we_o may_v daily_o grow_v from_o perfection_n to_o perfection_n till_o we_o become_v perfect_a man_n in_o christ_n jesus_n let_v we_o continual_o pray_v with_o the_o apostle_n lord_n increase_v our_o faith_n and_o let_v we_o from_o the_o love_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n jesus_n our_o lord_n but_o in_o all_o these_o thing_n let_v we_o be_v more_o than_o conqueror_n through_o he_o that_o have_v love_v us._n whatsoever_o we_o suffer_v or_o want_v in_o the_o world_n let_v we_o comfort_v ourselves_o in_o this_o that_o it_o be_v the_o beat_a way_n wherein_o many_o of_o god_n saint_n have_v walk_v unto_o heaven_n second_o to_o say_v of_o they_o that_o they_o have_v their_o riches_n in_o this_o world_n they_o have_v their_o honour_n here_o on_o earth_n but_o we_o be_v to_o know_v that_o the_o lord_n have_v they_o that_o belong_v unto_o he_o in_o both_o sort_n of_o man_n high_a and_o low_a rich_a and_o poor_a neither_o therefore_o let_v plenty_n be_v a_o prejudice_n to_o they_o that_o abound_v neither_o let_v want_n seem_v to_o privilege_v they_o that_o lack_n but_o as_o every_o man_n bear_v his_o want_n and_o use_v his_o abundance_n so_o let_v he_o be_v think_v to_o have_v his_o portion_n among_o the_o righteous_a three_o such_o as_o have_v experience_n both_o of_o plenty_n and_o of_o want_n let_v they_o hence_o learn_v not_o to_o stoop_v at_o the_o one_o or_o stumble_v at_o the_o other_o let_v not_o their_o want_n dismay_v they_o nor_o their_o abundance_n exalt_v they_o the_o lord_n give_v and_o the_o lord_n take_v away_o and_o his_o name_n be_v still_o to_o be_v bless_v whether_o therefore_o we_o be_v abase_v or_o abound_v whether_o we_o be_v full_a or_o hungry_a whether_o we_o abound_v or_o have_v want_n every_o where_o and_o in_o all_o thing_n we_o be_v to_o bless_v he_o know_v that_o all_o thing_n be_v according_a to_o his_o will_n now_o give_v i_o leave_v in_o one_o word_n to_o point_n at_o one_o other_o observation_n from_o these_o word_n in_o that_o he_o say_v i_o can_v be_v abase_v and_o likewise_o i_o can_v abound_v etc._n etc._n i_o observe_v a_o notable_a pattern_n of_o great_a perfection_n in_o a_o christian_a for_o than_o we_o grow_v to_o a_o notable_a perfection_n when_o we_o can_v both_o be_v abase_v and_o abound_v be_v full_a and_o hungry_a etc._n etc._n and_o still_o be_v content_a with_o the_o one_o or_o the_o other_o without_o murmur_v or_o grudge_v the_o philosopher_n and_o heathen_a writer_n have_v talk_v much_o of_o bear_v both_o adversity_n and_o prosperity_n patient_o and_o have_v set_v down_o good_a precept_n for_o walk_v constant_o in_o they_o both_o without_o droop_a in_o adversity_n or_o swell_v in_o prosperity_n but_o let_v any_o man_n tell_v i_o of_o the_o best_a of_o they_o that_o keep_v that_o constant_a course_n in_o both_o not_o daunt_v with_o the_o one_o nor_o puff_v up_o with_o the_o other_o nay_o in_o this_o degree_n of_o perfection_n none_o of_o they_o can_v but_o our_o apostle_n must_v be_v the_o pattern_n for_o we_o to_o follow_v after_o that_o we_o may_v all_o of_o we_o say_v with_o the_o apostle_n i_o can_v be_v abase_v and_o i_o can_v abound_v etc._n etc._n yea_o this_o be_v a_o thing_n which_o we_o shall_v all_o of_o we_o know_v by_o experience_n in_o ourselves_o that_o we_o can_v be_v abase_v etc._n etc._n and_o wherein_o we_o shall_v be_v instruct_v and_o teach_v as_o in_o a_o mystery_n of_o religion_n to_o be_v abase_v and_o to_o abound_v etc._n etc._n for_o this_o be_v a_o holy_a point_n of_o christian_a knowledge_n to_o know_v to_o be_v abase_v and_o to_o abound_v to_o be_v content_a with_o either_o and_o not_o to_o relinquish_v any_o christian_a duty_n for_o either_o but_o alas_o how_o ignorant_a be_v all_o sort_n of_o man_n herein_o in_o the_o clergy_n what_o ambitious_a seek_n after_o the_o chief_a dignity_n what_o heap_v of_o living_n one_o upon_o another_o benefice_n upon_o benefice_n prebend_v upon_o prebend_v &_o of_o benefice_n in_o commendam_fw-la upon_o bishopric_n in_o the_o temporalty_n what_o join_v of_o house_n to_o house_n and_o lay_v of_o field_n to_o field_n what_o pry_v and_o prowl_a into_o all_o kind_n of_o commodity_n what_o thirst_v and_o gape_v still_o after_o more_o more_o and_o what_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o all_o we_o have_v not_o learned_a both_o to_o be_v full_a and_o to_o be_v hungry_a both_o to_o abound_v and_o to_o have_v want_n it_o may_v be_v we_o can_v abound_v but_o we_o can_v be_v abase_v it_o may_v be_v we_o can_v be_v full_a but_o we_o can_v be_v hungry_a it_o may_v be_v we_o can_v away_o with_o plenty_n but_o not_o with_o want_n this_o prick_v and_o pinch_v and_o be_v as_o bitter_a unto_o we_o as_o death_n but_o have_v we_o learn_v to_o abound_v and_o to_o be_v full_a nay_o we_o know_v not_o when_o we_o abound_v or_o when_o we_o be_v full_a and_o beside_o that_o abundance_n and_o fullness_n make_v we_o wanton_a and_o proud_a and_o forgetful_a of_o such_o christian_a duty_n as_o we_o ought_v to_o perform_v as_o may_v easy_o have_v be_v prove_v if_o time_n have_v give_v leave_n long_o we_o then_o in_o our_o soul_n to_o grow_v forward_o in_o a_o good_a degree_n of_o christian_a perfection_n let_v we_o learn_v both_o to_o be_v abase_v and_o to_o abound_v etc._n etc._n let_v not_o abundance_n or_o plenty_n make_v we_o wanton_a
it_o that_o now_o we_o the_o minister_n of_o christ_n and_o disposer_n of_o god_n secret_n do_v preach_v unto_o you_o the_o gospel_n of_o your_o salvation_n and_o labour_n among_o you_o that_o you_o may_v be_v rich_a in_o all_o knowledge_n and_o in_o all_o judgement_n be_v it_o not_o to_o this_o end_n that_o you_o may_v be_v teach_v in_o the_o way_n of_o god_n that_o you_o may_v be_v able_a to_o labour_v for_o increase_v in_o knowledge_n and_o in_o all_o judgement_n read_v hear_v meditate_v pray_v every_o holy_a course_n you_o ought_v to_o use_v that_o you_o may_v increase_v and_o abound_v in_o knowledge_n and_o in_o all_o judgement_n to_o this_o end_n that_o in_o such_o ignorance_n you_o may_v be_v able_a to_o discern_v thing_n that_o differ_v that_o in_o such_o corruption_n you_o rather_o any_o other_o end_n which_o they_o shall_v not_o than_o these_o which_o they_o shall_v for_o of_o those_o that_o do_v vouchsafe_v to_o search_v the_o scripture_n many_o there_o be_v who_o text_n labour_n to_o overthrow_v the_o truth_n and_o to_o build_v their_o own_o error_n other_o there_o be_v who_o end_n in_o seek_v knowledge_n out_o of_o the_o scripture_n be_v only_o a_o vain_a ostentation_n that_o man_n may_v think_v and_o speak_v of_o they_o as_o great_a rabbin_n good_a expounder_n of_o the_o law_n and_o very_o skilful_a in_o the_o scripture_n such_o be_v they_o of_o who_o knowledge_n the_o apostle_n speak_v when_o he_o say_v that_o knowledge_n puff_v up_o for_o as_o they_o regard_v nothing_o in_o seek_v after_o knowledge_n but_o a_o vain_a ostentation_n 8.1_o 1_o cor._n 8.1_o so_o have_v attein_v unto_o knowledge_n they_o swell_v and_o look_v so_o big_a as_o if_o all_o knowledge_n be_v shut_v up_o in_o their_o breast_n other_o there_o be_v who_o end_n be_v to_o inform_v their_o own_o understanding_n that_o they_o may_v not_o be_v ignorant_a in_o the_o law_n of_o their_o god_n but_o may_v know_v the_o story_n of_o the_o bible_n the_o course_n and_o meaning_n of_o the_o scripture_n such_o be_v they_o that_o delight_n themselves_o only_o with_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o mystery_n of_o god_n but_o show_v not_o any_o fruit_n of_o their_o knowledge_n in_o a_o sober_a honest_a and_o godly_a life_n indeed_o man_n general_o in_o seek_v knowledge_n out_o of_o the_o scripture_n aim_v rather_o at_o every_o other_o end_n then_o at_o that_o whereat_o they_o shall_v but_o we_o belove_a may_v not_o be_v like_a unto_o they_o here_o you_o see_v wherefore_o we_o shall_v labour_v to_o abound_v more_o and_o more_o in_o knowledge_n and_o in_o all_o judgement_n whatsoever_o other_o do_v let_v this_o be_v our_o direction_n what_o we_o be_v to_o do_v and_o though_o the_o small_a number_n by_o far_o make_v the_o bent_n of_o their_o increase_n these_o end_n increase_v our_o thirst_v after_o knowledge_n my_o next_o note_n be_v from_o the_o thing_n themselves_o wherefore_o the_o apostle_n pray_v that_o they_o may_v abound_v more_o and_o more_o in_o knowledge_n and_o in_o all_o judgement_n whereof_o the_o first_o be_v that_o they_o may_v discern_v thing_n that_o differ_v one_o from_o another_o that_o be_v able_a to_o see_v the_o difference_n of_o thing_n concern_v either_o doctrine_n life_n or_o manner_n they_o may_v in_o each_o fly_n that_o which_o be_v evil_a and_o follow_v that_o which_o be_v good_a whence_o i_o observe_v the_o meaning_n of_o the_o apostle_n in_o these_o word_n this_o you_o must_v know_v that_o then_o there_o be_v as_o still_o there_o be_v pestilent_a and_o deceive_a spirit_n which_o trouble_v the_o church_n and_o corrupt_v or_o discredit_v the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o this_o also_o you_o must_v know_v that_o then_o there_o be_v as_o still_o there_o be_v some_o which_o because_o of_o such_o man_n wilful_o reject_v the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o other_o which_o foolish_o believe_v every_o spirit_n that_o speak_v in_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n the_o apostle_n therefore_o will_v they_o and_o in_o they_o we_o neither_o wilful_o to_o reject_v every_o thing_n because_o of_o some_o wicked_a man_n nor_o yet_o foolish_o to_o admit_v every_o thing_n that_o be_v speak_v in_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n but_o to_o try_v and_o sift_v and_o examine_v all_o thing_n by_o the_o rule_n of_o the_o word_n and_o what_o then_o when_o by_o trial_n we_o see_v and_o discern_v thing_n that_o differ_v one_o from_o another_o he_o will_v we_o to_o keep_v that_o which_o be_v good_a for_o that_o be_v the_o end_n wherefore_o we_o be_v to_o try_v thing_n so_o that_o hence_o we_o see_v that_o it_o be_v a_o employment_n very_o behooveful_a for_o we_o all_o that_o we_o may_v be_v able_a to_o discern_v thing_n that_o differ_v one_o from_o another_o that_o see_v the_o nothing_o he_o differ_v from_o the_o common_a sort_n of_o man_n taste_v of_o all_o man_n infirmity_n and_o in_o all_o thing_n be_v as_o man_n sin_n only_o except_v last_o in_o that_o it_o be_v say_v he_o be_v find_v in_o shape_n as_o a_o man_n i_o note_v the_o same_o thing_n that_o before_o namely_o the_o truth_n of_o christ_n his_o manhood_n for_o in_o these_o word_n the_o apostle_n his_o meaning_n iâ—_n that_o his_o very_a person_n and_o behaviour_n show_v he_o to_o be_v a_o man_n and_o a_o man_n as_o the_o prophet_n speak_v full_a of_o sorrow_n thâ—â—_n have_v i_o brief_o point_v at_o some_o of_o those_o note_n and_o observation_n which_o may_v easy_o be_v gather_v touch_v the_o godhead_n and_o manhood_n of_o christ_n out_o of_o this_o description_n of_o christ_n his_o humility_n in_o his_o incarnation_n to_o knit_v up_o the_o whole_a in_o one_o general_a note_n and_o observation_n here_o we_o may_v most_o clear_o observe_v the_o great_a humility_n of_o our_o lord_n and_o saviour_n christ_n jesus_n even_o this_o one_o description_n of_o his_o incarnation_n may_v both_o most_o lively_o present_v it_o before_o our_o eye_n and_o be_v a_o most_o clear_a pattern_n unto_o we_o how_o we_o ought_v to_o be_v mind_v one_o towards_o another_o he_o that_o be_v very_a god_n of_o the_o substance_n of_o the_o father_n glorious_a in_o majesty_n wonderful_a in_o power_n only_o wise_a of_o right_a and_o without_o any_o injury_n to_o the_o godhead_n at_o all_o every_o way_n equal_a unto_o god_n the_o father_n of_o himself_o vouchsafe_v to_o descend_v from_o his_o brother_n he_o disdain_v not_o to_o take_v on_o he_o even_o the_o base_a condition_n of_o a_o man_n even_o of_o a_o servant_n and_o for_o our_o sake_n to_o become_v poor_a that_o we_o through_o his_o poverty_n may_v be_v make_v rich_a but_o how_o many_o of_o we_o with_o patience_n doc_fw-fr bear_v our_o poverty_n nay_o do_v we_o not_o murmur_v and_o grudge_v against_o god_n as_o a_o unequal_a disposer_n of_o these_o temporal_a blessing_n do_v we_o not_o often_o break_v out_o into_o these_o intemperate_a speech_n rather_o than_o we_o will_v thus_o want_v we_o will_v rob_v by_o the_o high_a way_n side_n or_o steal_v rather_o than_o we_o will_v starve_v we_o will_v have_v it_o out_o of_o the_o rich_a man_n belly_n etc._n etc._n but_o know_v thou_o that_o unless_o christ_n have_v be_v infirmity_n but_o how_o many_o of_o we_o be_v move_v to_o take_v compassion_n on_o the_o misery_n distress_n and_o infirmity_n of_o our_o brethren_n nay_o how_o many_o of_o we_o do_v shut_v up_o all_o not_o with_o any_o purpose_n to_o work_v in_o the_o lord_n his_o vineyard_n but_o only_o to_o feed_v upon_o the_o portion_n of_o the_o levite_n

unto_o god_n but_o he_o be_v as_o dead_a unto_o sin_n and_o liâ—ing_v unto_o god_n as_o if_o he_o be_v already_o in_o the_o bosom_n of_o god_n â—ee_o do_v not_o endeavour_n to_o run_v forward_o from_o perfection_n to_o perfection_n but_o he_o have_v already_o attain_v unto_o that_o whereat_o â—ther_o man_n be_v to_o run_v so_o that_o as_o it_o be_v say_v of_o some_o 1.22_o rom._n 1.22_o that_o perfection_n the_o second_o use_n which_o we_o may_v make_v of_o the_o former_a observation_n be_v that_o thence_o we_o may_v learn_v to_o try_v what_o perfection_n we_o be_v grow_v unto_o in_o the_o school_n of_o christ_n for_o do_v we_o rejoice_v only_o in_o christ_n jesus_n renounce_v all_o our_o own_o righteousness_n which_o be_v by_o work_n and_o quiet_o repose_v ourselves_o in_o his_o righteousness_n through_o faith_n in_o his_o blood_n do_v we_o feel_v in_o ourselves_o a_o die_a unto_o sin_n and_o a_o live_n unto_o god_n in_o righteousness_n through_o the_o virtue_n of_o christ_n they_o unto_o christ_n rather_o in_o any_o other_o respect_n almost_o than_o in_o a_o holly_n zeal_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o our_o god_n sure_o many_o such_o carnal_a gospeler_n there_o be_v who_o god_n be_v indeed_o their_o belly_n which_o like_v unto_o the_o son_n of_o eli_n so_o turn_v aside_o after_o the_o love_n of_o their_o belly_n and_o of_o their_o pleasure_n that_o either_o they_o forget_v or_o else_o care_v not_o for_o the_o law_n of_o their_o god_n but_o take_v heed_n and_o beware_v of_o they_o for_o you_o may_v not_o walk_v as_o they_o do_v yea_o general_o they_o make_v unto_o the_o life_n of_o god_n through_o the_o power_n of_o the_o spirit_n which_o be_v never_o quite_o quench_v in_o they_o here_o then_o be_v both_o a_o word_n of_o comfort_n unto_o the_o distress_a &_o a_o watch_n word_n likewise_o unto_o all_o in_o general_n a_o comfort_n it_o must_v needs_o be_v unto_o the_o afflict_a soul_n that_o in_o the_o dear_a child_n of_o god_n the_o life_n of_o god_n their_o honour_n and_o preferment_n by_o their_o power_n and_o authority_n for_o in_o that_o in_o these_o thing_n he_o so_o temper_v they_o that_o they_o use_v they_o to_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o name_n and_o the_o good_a of_o their_o brethren_n and_o not_o swell_v thereby_o nor_o abuse_v they_o as_o the_o wicked_a do_v herein_o he_o be_v glorify_v again_o in_o some_o of_o his_o child_n he_o
