they_o delight_v in_o it_o just_o such_o a_o knowledge_n as_o this_o be_v there_o between_o christ_n and_o his_o sheep_n christ_n know_v they_o as_o those_o he_o himself_o have_v beget_v as_o those_o who_o he_o have_v breathe_v the_o image_n of_o the_o father_n into_o as_o those_o that_o be_v take_v out_o of_o he_o as_o his_o wife_n form_v out_o of_o his_o own_o side_n as_o eve_n be_v out_o of_o adam_n they_o know_v christ_n as_o the_o everlasting_a father_n as_o the_o fountain_n of_o their_o life_n as_o their_o only_a lord_n and_o shepherd_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v the_o first_o and_o most_o natural_a act_n of_o the_o soul_n so_o soon_o as_o it_o be_v beget_v and_o bear_v to_o believe_v on_o christ_n to_o love_n christ_n to_o hope_v in_o christ_n so_o soon_o as_o ever_o it_o open_v its_o eye_n and_o see_v it_o see_v christ_n the_o original_n of_o its_o own_o life_n and_o it_o cling_v unto_o he_o all_o its_o motion_n be_v go_n forth_o of_o itself_o towards_o he_o and_o receive_v and_o let_v he_o into_o itself_o it_o can_v live_v further_a than_o it_o enter_v into_o christ_n or_o then_o christ_n enter_v into_o it_o this_o be_v its_o proper_a element_n where_o it_o only_o can_v rest_v and_o delight_v itself_o as_o christ_n do_v hang_v on_o the_o father_n from_o that_o knowledge_n he_o have_v of_o he_o and_o the_o father_n do_v continual_o communicate_v himself_o to_o christ_n by_o that_o knowledge_n he_o have_v of_o he_o so_o christ_n sheep_n present_o hang_v on_o he_o as_o their_o shepherd_n so_o soon_o as_o they_o be_v make_v sheep_n and_o he_o natural_o take_v care_n of_o they_o as_o the_o father_n do_v of_o he_o look_v after_o what_o manner_n and_o upon_o what_o ground_n the_o father_n and_o christ_n know_v one_o another_o and_o what_o the_o effect_n of_o this_o knowledge_n be_v just_o such_o a_o knowledge_n and_o such_o effect_n of_o knowledge_n shall_v you_o find_v between_o christ_n and_o his_o sheep_n knowledge_n be_v the_o acquaintance_n person_n have_v one_o with_o another_o their_o comprehend_v of_o one_o another_o in_o the_o same_o light_n wherein_o they_o be_v and_o live_v wherein_o they_o understand_v the_o disposition_n the_o way_n the_o counsel_n of_o one_o another_o god_n be_v say_v not_o to_o know_v wicked_a man_n because_o he_o hold_v no_o acquaintance_n no_o correspondence_n with_o they_o but_o he_o know_v christ_n he_o hold_v intimate_a acquaintance_n and_o correspondence_n with_o he_o he_o let_v he_o see_v what_o ever_o be_v in_o he_o and_o what_o ever_o he_o intend_v to_o do_v and_o so_o christ_n also_o advise_v with_o his_o father_n about_o every_o thing_n desire_v to_o hide_v nothing_o from_o the_o father_n desire_v to_o know_v nothing_o but_o from_o in_o and_z with_o the_o father_n such_o a_o acquaintance_n be_v there_o between_o christ_n and_o his_o christ_n open_v his_o excellency_n and_o the_o mystery_n of_o his_o way_n to_o they_o and_o they_o open_v their_o heart_n and_o thought_n and_o burden_n and_o every_o thing_n to_o christ_n it_o be_v a_o knowledge_n accompany_v with_o and_o beget_v the_o most_o intimate_a familiarity_n the_o most_o mutual_a communion_n delight_n and_o confidence_n and_o this_o knowledge_n only_o be_v certain_a all_o other_o knowledge_n all_o from_o without_o all_z from_z within_z that_o be_v any_o other_o way_n receive_v then_o from_o the_o lip_n of_o christ_n be_v but_o a_o lie_n and_o can_v but_o deceive_v we_o know_v truth_n by_o know_v christ_n and_o it_o be_v in_o and_o from_o christ_n that_o we_o know_v it_o christ_n sheep_n can_v take_v up_o truth_n at_o any_o time_n when_o it_o be_v hold_v out_o nor_o from_o any_o hand_n but_o only_o when_o they_o see_v christ_n go_v before_o they_o though_o they_o see_v truth_n to_o be_v their_o food_n yet_o they_o desire_v it_o not_o they_o meddle_v not_o with_o it_o but_o when_o their_o shepherd_n pick_v it_o out_o for_o they_o and_o as_o he_o distribute_v it_o to_o they_o it_o be_v the_o subtlety_n of_o the_o devil_n to_o be_v beforehand_o with_o truth_n to_o hold_v it_o out_o first_o on_o his_o false_a ground_n and_o principle_n that_o afterward_o by_o fell_v they_o he_o may_v supplant_v the_o truth_n itself_o when_o christ_n come_v to_o hold_v it_o forth_o and_o though_o other_o person_n may_v take_v up_o truth_n thus_o hold_v forth_o by_o drink_v in_o the_o outward_a notion_n yet_o they_o can_v they_o do_v not_o know_v this_o kind_n of_o voice_n they_o be_v not_o use_v to_o receive_v thing_n thus_o from_o principle_n or_o from_o the_o light_n of_o reason_n after_o the_o manner_n of_o man_n but_o when_o christ_n lead_v they_o by_o his_o spirit_n when_o he_o thus_o speak_v to_o they_o they_o know_v his_o voice_n and_o follow_v he_o they_o regard_v not_o what_o creature_n speak_v in_o or_o through_o the_o creation_n they_o regard_v not_o what_o spiritual_a man_n speak_v of_o god_n or_o christ_n or_o any_o other_o spiritual_a thing_n they_o regard_v not_o what_o be_v speak_v within_o they_o they_o know_v the_o root_n of_o vanity_n and_o deceit_n be_v deep_o within_o but_o what_o christ_n speak_v either_o from_o within_o or_o from_o without_o be_v exceed_o welcome_a to_o they_o when_o he_o open_v that_o ear_n and_o that_o heart_n that_o can_v hear_v and_o know_v his_o voice_n and_o this_o be_v their_o kind_n of_o knowledge_n which_o have_v once_o taste_v of_o they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o relish_v any_o other_o christ_n relish_v no_o other_o knowledge_n in_o they_o nor_o do_v they_o relish_v any_o other_o knowledge_n in_o themselves_o when_o this_o be_v at_o any_o time_n darken_v hide_v or_o bury_v from_o they_o or_o within_o they_o though_o they_o have_v never_o so_o much_o leave_v of_o that_o which_o man_n call_v knowledge_n yet_o they_o can_v look_v upon_o it_o or_o own_o it_o as_o knowledge_n such_o kind_n of_o knowledge_n be_v not_o knowledge_n with_o they_o be_v not_o their_o knowledge_n they_o have_v neither_o interest_n nor_o delight_n in_o it_o as_o christ_n know_v they_o by_o his_o own_o light_n by_o his_o own_o knowledge_n by_o the_o knowledge_n of_o his_o own_o divine_a spiritual_a nature_n so_o they_o know_v christ_n and_o spiritual_a thing_n by_o the_o same_o light_n by_o the_o same_o nature_n with_o the_o same_o knowledge_n he_o have_v the_o peculiar_a knowledge_n of_o such_o a_o shepherd_n as_o he_o be_v and_o they_o have_v the_o peculiar_a knowledge_n of_o such_o sheep_n as_o they_o be_v their_o relation_n be_v distinct_a different_a from_o any_o relation_n in_o this_o world_n of_o another_o nature_n and_o kind_n their_o union_n be_v such_o a_o union_n as_o be_v not_o to_o be_v find_v here_o below_o and_o such_o be_v their_o knowledge_n and_o communion_n i_o be_o the_o good_a shepherd_n and_o know_v my_o sheep_n and_o be_o know_v of_o i_o of_o the_o new_a covenant_n from_z hebr._n 8.10_o 11_o 12._o for_o this_o be_v the_o covenant_n that_o i_o will_v make_v with_o the_o house_n of_o israel_n after_o those_o day_n say_v the_o lord_n i_o will_v put_v my_o law_n into_o their_o mind_n and_o write_v they_o in_o their_o heart_n and_o i_o will_v be_v to_o they_o a_o god_n and_o they_o shall_v be_v to_o i_o a_o people_n and_o they_o shall_v not_o teach_v every_o man_n his_o neighbour_n and_o every_o man_n his_o brother_n say_v know_v the_o lord_n for_o all_o shall_v know_v i_o from_o the_o least_o force_n and_o virtue_n of_o a_o covenant_n write_v either_o in_o open_a letter_n or_o secret_a character_n every_o union_n every_o relation_n contain_v a_o covenant_n in_o it_o the_o bound_n whereof_o make_v the_o union_n and_o relation_n
have_v but_o the_o light_n of_o god_n he_o can_v not_o but_o have_v the_o life_n of_o god_n also_o for_o the_o life_n lie_v in_o it_o this_o be_v life_n eternal_a to_o know_v thou_o the_o only_a true_a god_n if_o a_o man_n be_v in_o the_o light_n as_o he_o be_v in_o the_o light_n he_o can_v not_o but_o walk_v in_o the_o light_n with_o he_o this_o be_v the_o great_a misery_n of_o the_o creation_n god_n be_v shut_v up_o from_o it_o and_o it_o be_v shut_v out_o from_o god_n and_o there_o be_v nothing_o but_o emptiness_n vanity_n and_o misery_n to_o be_v meet_v with_o while_o god_n remain_v unknown_a man_n excellency_n lie_v in_o knowledge_n wherein_o do_v man_n excel_v the_o other_o creature_n but_o in_o his_o knowledge_n the_o light_n of_o this_o world_n the_o creature_n have_v in_o common_a with_o he_o but_o not_o the_o light_n of_o his_o mind_n wherein_o do_v one_o man_n excel_v another_o but_o in_o knowledge_n he_o that_o know_v much_o in_o any_o kind_n excel_v other_o in_o that_o kind_n who_o fall_v short_a of_o he_o in_o that_o knowledge_n he_o that_o know_v most_o most_o certain_o most_o clear_o most_o full_o in_o the_o deep_a kind_n of_o knowledge_n excel_v all_o other_o the_o proper_a object_n of_o knowledge_n be_v god_n there_o be_v nothing_o else_o worth_a know_v the_o knowledge_n of_o any_o thing_n else_o beget_v and_o increase_v misery_n and_o there_o be_v but_o one_o kind_n of_o knowledge_n of_o god_n neither_o that_o tend_v towards_o happiness_n and_o that_o be_v that_o knowledge_n of_o himself_o which_o he_o give_v out_o to_o his_o people_n in_o his_o own_o light_n all_o other_o knowledge_n be_v death_n and_o carry_v destruction_n in_o the_o bowel_n of_o it_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n as_o it_o spring_v up_o in_o the_o creature_n destroy_v the_o creature_n that_o life_n it_o seem_v to_o feed_v and_o nourish_v it_o do_v but_o fatten_v for_o destruction_n and_o so_o move_v towards_o destruction_n even_o therein_o that_o knowledge_n alone_o preserve_v the_o creature_n which_o come_v immediate_o from_o god_n into_o the_o creature_n and_o carry_v the_o creature_n out_o of_o itself_o into_o god_n where_o it_o lodge_v and_o live_v save_v the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n since_o the_o break_a dark_a state_n of_o man_n come_v by_o teach_v by_o such_o a_o ministry_n and_o ministration_n as_o god_n please_v to_o set_v up_o among_o his_o people_n who_o be_v the_o person_n he_o alone_o pick_v out_o to_o know_v and_o to_o make_v himself_o know_v unto_o the_o law_n be_v give_v to_o the_o jew_n by_o moses_n and_o he_o and_o aaron_n the_o priest_n and_o the_o prophet_n be_v still_o to_o open_v the_o law_n unto_o they_o and_o to_o teach_v they_o to_o know_v god_n by_o it_o the_o priest_n lip_n shall_v preserve_v knowledge_n and_o they_o shall_v seek_v the_o law_n at_o his_o mouth_n man_n be_v also_o to_o teach_v one_o another_o according_a to_o the_o light_n they_o have_v according_a to_o the_o relation_n they_o stand_v in_o according_a to_o the_o conveniency_n and_o opportunity_n that_o be_v cut_v out_o unto_o they_o for_o the_o instruction_n and_o exhortation_n of_o one_o another_o thus_o every_o man_n be_v to_o teach_v his_o neighbour_n and_o every_o man_n his_o brother_n say_v know_v the_o lord_n this_o be_v your_o life_n this_o be_v your_o happiness_n this_o be_v that_o you_o be_v choose_v by_o he_o for_o to_o be_v his_o people_n to_o be_v acquaint_v with_o he_o to_o understand_v his_o mind_n therefore_o what_o ever_o you_o do_v look_v to_o it_o make_v it_o your_o main_a business_n to_o know_v the_o lord_n so_o in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o apostle_n there_o be_v the_o same_o way_n of_o teach_v we_o shall_v find_v man_n there_o likewise_o communicate_v the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n to_o one_o another_o and_o press_v they_o earnest_o to_o receive_v and_o retain_v this_o knowledge_n there_o be_v a_o tang_n of_o somewhat_o further_o but_o it_o be_v neither_o universal_a full_a nor_o last_a but_o now_o when_o this_o covenant_n come_v to_o be_v set_v up_o there_o shall_v need_v no_o more_o of_o this_o teach_n this_o teach_n shall_v continue_v no_o long_o god_n will_v so_o himself_o diffuse_v the_o knowledge_n of_o himself_o into_o every_o one_o according_a to_o what_o they_o need_v and_o can_v hold_v that_o none_o shall_v need_v to_o look_v abroad_o for_o it_o every_o one_o shall_v drink_v water_n out_o of_o their_o own_o cistern_n or_o rather_o out_o of_o their_o own_o fountain_n for_o all_o shall_v know_v i_o there_o shall_v not_o remain_v one_o among_o the_o whole_a people_n of_o god_n ignorant_a of_o god_n there_o shall_v not_o any_o one_o need_v any_o other_o teach_v or_o be_v teach_v any_o other_o way_n then_o as_o the_o anoint_v teach_v he_o from_o the_o least_o to_o the_o great_a god_n produce_v every_o thing_n in_o great_a variety_n there_o be_v small_a and_o great_a in_o every_o sort_n of_o creature_n though_o they_o be_v much_o one_o yet_o they_o differ_v much_o also_o they_o differ_v in_o their_o shape_n in_o their_o dimension_n in_o beauty_n virtue_n strength_n and_o spirit_n some_o be_v of_o mean_a low_a spirit_n other_o of_o high_a noble_a excellent_a spirit_n so_o be_v it_o in_o his_o seed_n in_o the_o natural_a seed_n the_o jew_n there_o be_v a_o difference_n both_o in_o the_o tribe_n and_o in_o the_o family_n and_o in_o the_o particular_a person_n in_o each_o tribe_n and_o family_n and_o as_o there_o be_v many_o other_o difference_n so_o there_o be_v particular_o this_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n some_o have_v much_o knowledge_n of_o the_o law_n other_o little_a some_o none_o at_o all_o so_o in_o the_o spiritual_a seed_n there_o be_v little_a one_o babe_n in_o christ_n young_a man_n old_a man_n experience_a man_n strong_a man_n man_n strong_a in_o faith_n in_o love_n in_o the_o life_n and_o power_n of_o god_n etc._n etc._n but_o this_o be_v the_o common_a way_n of_o all_o their_o learning_n viz._n by_o teach_v one_o another_o indeed_o the_o apostle_n be_v not_o teach_v by_o man_n but_o immediate_o by_o god_n but_o that_o be_v not_o usual_a it_o be_v in_o reference_n to_o their_o particular_a work_n but_o the_o church_n be_v teach_v by_o one_o another_o by_o the_o officer_n and_o by_o the_o brethren_n in_o they_o so_o that_o this_o have_v be_v the_o common_a way_n hitherto_o but_o when_o this_o covenant_n be_v set_v up_o in_o full_a force_n every_o one_o shall_v be_v teach_v by_o the_o lord_n all_o thy_o child_n shall_v be_v teach_v of_o god_n and_o so_o teach_v that_o every_o one_o shall_v know_v god_n man_n can_v but_o lay_v what_o he_o teach_v before_o the_o understanding_n but_o god_n can_v infuse_v it_o into_o the_o heart_n he_o can_v present_o leaven_n the_o heart_n with_o it_o when_o he_o teach_v there_o be_v none_o shall_v avoid_v learning_n but_o they_o shall_v all_o know_v the_o lord_n from_o the_o least_o to_o the_o great_a they_o shall_v all_o learn_v of_o he_o and_o they_o shall_v all_o learn_v he_o from_o the_o very_a lest_o to_o the_o great_a the_o hard_a lesson_n that_o be_v for_o there_o be_v nothing_o hard_a than_o to_o know_v god_n god_n will_v teach_v his_o mean_a scholar_n god_n will_v not_o have_v any_o blockhead_n or_o dullard_n in_o his_o school_n but_o the_o least_o there_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o comprehend_v himself_o from_o the_o least_o to_o the_o great_a he_o that_o be_v least_o he_o that_o have_v least_o yet_o he_o shall_v not_o receive_v it_o from_o other_o but_o from_o god_n he_o that_o have_v least_o light_a least_o life_n shall_v have_v that_o he_o have_v pure_a from_o the_o fountain_n the_o least_o of_o his_o he_o will_v teach_v and_o the_o very_a lest_o thing_n that_o be_v to_o be_v teach_v they_o he_o himself_o will_v teach_v they_o he_o will_v suffer_v none_o to_o teach_v his_o but_o himself_o indeed_o the_o least_o thing_n that_o can_v be_v know_v can_v thus_o be_v teach_v by_o any_o but_o himself_o and_o he_o that_o be_v great_a full_a who_o have_v need_n have_v much_o to_o fill_v he_o yet_o shall_v not_o draw_v one_o jot_n of_o it_o from_o any_o cistern_n
