be_v ashamed_a of_o the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n but_o the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n may_v just_o be_v ashamed_a of_o we_o for_o whatever_o we_o be_v the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n be_v the_o power_n of_o god_n unto_o salvation_n the_o natural_a tendency_n of_o it_o be_v to_o reform_v and_o save_v man_n and_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n be_v therein_o reveal_v against_o all_o ungodliness_n and_o vnrighteousness_n of_o man_n however_o they_o may_v detain_v the_o truth_n of_o god_n in_o vnrighteousness_n and_o not_o suffer_v they_o to_o have_v their_o due_a and_o proper_a influence_n upon_o their_o heart_n and_o life_n but_o that_o i_o may_v give_v a_o more_o clear_a and_o particular_a answer_n to_o it_o i_o desire_v you_o to_o attend_v to_o these_o follow_a consideration_n 1._o it_o can_v be_v deny_v but_o that_o christianity_n have_v have_v once_o very_o great_a and_o marvellous_a effect_n upon_o the_o heart_n and_o life_n of_o men._n and_o for_o this_o i_o appeal_v to_o the_o life_n and_o manner_n of_o the_o primitive_a christian_n for_o which_o we_o have_v not_o only_o the_o testimony_n of_o our_o own_o book_n and_o writer_n but_o even_o of_o the_o adversary_n of_o our_o religion_n what_o reformation_n christianity_n at_o first_o
so_o afraid_a of_o the_o merit_n of_o obedience_n and_o good_a work_n that_o they_o be_v loath_a to_o assert_v the_o neeessity_n of_o they_o and_o do_v it_o with_o so_o much_o caution_n as_o if_o they_o be_v not_o thorough_o persuade_v of_o it_o or_o do_v apprehend_v some_o dangerous_a consequence_n of_o it_o but_o this_o fear_n be_v perfect_o groundless_a as_o if_o merit_n can_v not_o be_v exclude_v without_o cast_v off_o our_o duty_n and_o release_n ourselves_o from_o any_o necessary_a obligation_n to_o be_v good_a for_o any_o man_n sure_o may_v easy_o discern_v a_o plain_a upon_o the_o constitution_n and_o appointment_n of_o god_n 2_o dly_z the_o general_a reason_n of_o reward_n 3_o dly_z upon_o the_o particular_a nature_n of_o that_o reward_n which_o god_n will_v confer_v upon_o we_o for_o our_o obedience_n 1_o st_o the_o constitution_n and_o appointment_n of_o god_n eternal_a life_n be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n and_o he_o may_v do_v what_o he_o will_v with_o his_o own_o he_o may_v dispense_v his_o gift_n and_o favour_n upon_o what_o term_n and_o condition_n he_o please_v and_o therefore_o if_o he_o have_v plain_o declare_v that_o to_o they_o who_o by_o reward_n be_v found_v in_o the_o immense_a bounty_n and_o goodness_n of_o god_n yet_o the_o reason_n of_o reward_n in_o general_n be_v necessary_o found_v in_o our_o obedience_n to_o god_n law_n for_o according_a to_o the_o true_a nature_n and_o reason_n of_o thing_n nothing_o but_o obedience_n be_v capable_a of_o reward_n for_o though_o authority_n may_v pardon_v the_o breach_n and_o
