vanity_n of_o the_o world_n of_o the_o greatness_n wisdom_n and_o goodness_n of_o god_n and_o of_o certain_a most_o desirable_a glory_n of_o heaven_n as_o shall_v humble_v their_o soul_n and_o turn_v they_o from_o the_o world_n to_o god_n and_o absolute_o deliver_v they_o up_o to_o christ_n and_o mortify_v fleshly_a lust_n and_o overcome_v temptation_n and_o renew_v they_o unto_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o goodness_n and_o set_v their_o heart_n and_o hope_n on_o heaven_n this_o be_v the_o ignorance_n that_o be_v man_n damnation_n and_o the_o contrary_a effectual_a knowledge_n be_v it_o which_o save_v soul_n chap._n xiii_o the_o nine_o inference_n those_o that_o know_v god_n so_o far_o as_o to_o love_v he_o above_o all_o may_v have_v comfort_n notwithstanding_o their_o remain_a be_v love_v by_o he_o and_o shall_v never_o perish_v and_o therefore_o may_v have_v just_a comfort_n under_o all_o the_o imperfection_n of_o his_o knowledge_n more_o wisdom_n may_v make_v he_o a_o better_a and_o more_o useful_a christian_a but_o while_o he_o be_v a_o christian_a indeed_o he_o may_v rejoice_v in_o god._n i_o blame_v not_o such_o for_o complain_v of_o the_o dulness_n of_o their_o understanding_n the_o badness_n of_o their_o memory_n their_o little_a profit_v by_o the_o mean_n of_o grace_n i_o shall_v blame_v they_o if_o they_o do_v not_o complain_v of_o these_o and_o i_o power_n wisdom_n and_o love_n of_o god_n and_o of_o the_o great_a mercy_n of_o redemption_n and_o of_o the_o evil_a of_o sin_n the_o worth_a of_o holiness_n and_o the_o certainty_n and_o weight_n of_o the_o heavenly_a glory_n and_o by_o how_o much_o these_o man_n love_v god_n and_o holiness_n more_o than_o the_o more_o learned_a that_o have_v less_o grace_n by_o so_o much_o they_o be_v more_o belove_v of_o god_n and_o account_v wise_a by_o the_o god_n of_o wisdom_n and_o therefore_o may_v rejoice_v in_o the_o greatness_n of_o their_o felicity_n i_o will_v have_v none_o so_o weak_a as_o to_o undervalue_n any_o real_a useful_a learning_n but_o if_o pharisees_n will_v cry_v out_o against_o unlearned_a godly_a christian_n these_o people_n know_v not_o the_o law_n and_o be_v accurse_v doctor_n and_o subtle_a disputer_n upon_o earth_n and_o more_o in_o a_o moment_n than_o all_o the_o book_n of_o man_n can_v teach_v he_o or_o all_o their_o author_n do_v ever_o here_o know_v jer._n therefore_o mere_a know_v matter_n that_o tend_v to_o pride_n sensuality_n wealth_n or_o domination_n be_v less_o than_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o sensual_a pleasure_n in_o the_o thing_n themselves_o and_o the_o contemplation_n of_o superior_a creature_n which_o have_v no_o other_o end_n than_o the_o delight_n of_o know_v be_v but_o a_o more_o refine_a sort_n of_o vanity_n and_o like_o the_o mind_n activity_n in_o a_o dream_n but_o whether_o it_o be_v the_o knowledge_n or_o the_o love_n of_o god_n that_o man_n shall_v place_v his_o high_a felicity_n in_o be_v become_v among_o the_o schoolman_n and_o some_o other_o divine_n a_o controversy_n that_o seem_v somewhat_o hard_o but_o indeed_o to_o a_o consider_v man_n the_o seem_a difficulty_n may_v be_v easy_o overcome_v the_o understanding_n and_o will_n and_o executive_a activity_n be_v not_o several_a soul_n but_o several_a faculty_n of_o one_o soul_n and_o their_o object_n and_o order_n of_o operation_n easy_o tell_v we_o which_o be_v the_o first_o and_o which_o the_o last_o which_o tend_v to_o the_o other_o as_o its_o end_n and_o which_o object_n be_v the_o most_o delightful_a and_o most_o felicitate_v to_o the_o man_n viz._n that_o truth_n be_v for_o goodness_n and_o that_o good_a as_o good_a be_v the_o amiable_a delectable_a and_o felicitating_a object_n and_o therefore_o that_o the_o intellect_n be_v the_o guide_n of_o the_o will_n and_o faith_n and_o knowledge_n be_v for_o love_n and_o its_o delight_n and_o yet_o that_o man_n felicity_n be_v in_o both_o and_o not_o in_o one_o alone_a as_o one_o to_o know_v whether_o our_o knowledge_n repentance_n patience_n zeal_n or_o any_o of_o the_o rest_n be_v any_o better_a than_o what_o a_o unjustify_v person_n may_v attain_v but_o if_o you_o can_v find_v that_o they_o cause_n or_o come_v from_o or_o accompany_v a_o sincere_a love_n of_o god_n you_o may_v be_v sure_a that_o they_o all_o partake_v of_o sincerity_n and_o be_v certain_a sign_n of_o a_o justify_v soul._n it_o be_v hard_o to_o know_v what_o sin_n for_o number_n or_o nature_n or_o magnitude_n be_v such_o as_o may_v or_o may_v not_o consist_v with_o a_o state_n of_o save_a grace_n he_o that_o consider_v of_o the_o sin_n of_o lot_n david_n solomon_n and_o peter_n will_v find_v the_o case_n exceed_o difficult_a but_o this_o much_o be_v sure_a that_o so_o much_o sin_n may_v consist_v with_o a_o justify_v state_n as_o may_v consist_v with_o sincere_a love_n to_o god_n and_o goodness_n while_o a_o man_n true_o love_v god_n above_o all_o his_o sin_n may_v cause_v correction_n but_o not_o damnation_n unless_o it_o can_v extinguish_v or_o overcome_v this_o love._n some_o question_n whether_o that_o the_o sin_n of_o lot_n or_o david_n for_o the_o present_a that_o desire_n of_o grace_n be_v a_o certain_a sign_n of_o grace_n because_o it_o be_v a_o act_n of_o will_n and_o love._n and_o it_o be_v true_a if_o that_o desire_n be_v great_a or_o more_o out_o the_o other_o do_v not_o indeed_o love_n god_n as_o god_n &_o as_o he_o must_v be_v love_v 1._o to_o think_v in_o general_a that_o there_o be_v a_o infinite_a eternal_a spirit_n of_o life_n light_n and_o love_n and_o not_o to_o think_v of_o he_o as_o relate_v to_o the_o world_n as_o its_o creator_n preserver_n and_o governor_n nor_o as_o relate_v to_o we_o and_o to_o mankind_n as_o our_o owner_n ruler_n and_o benefactor_n be_v not_o to_o think_v of_o he_o as_o a_o god_n to_o we_o or_o to_o any_o but_o himself_o and_o a_o love_n thus_o exercise_v can_v be_v true_a save_a love_n 2._o the_o intellection_n of_o these_o we_o conceive_v of_o other_o thing_n as_o like_v they_o form_v universal_a conception_n and_o apply_v they_o to_o such_o individual_n as_o be_v beyond_o the_o reach_n of_o our_o sense_n as_o we_o think_v of_o man_n tree_n beast_n fish_n etc._n etc._n in_o the_o indies_n as_o like_v those_o which_o we_o have_v see_v and_o of_o sound_n there_o as_o like_v those_o which_o we_o have_v hear_v and_o of_o the_o taste_n of_o fruit_n by_o the_o similitude_n of_o such_o as_o we_o have_v taste_v etc._n etc._n iii_o how_o sense_n itself_o intellection_n itself_o volition_n itself_o and_o internal_a affection_n be_v perceive_v be_v no_o small_a controversy_n among_o philosopher_n that_o we_o do_v perceive_v they_o by_o the_o great_a wisdom_n and_o goodness_n of_o our_o creator_n we_o be_v sure_a but_o how_o we_o do_v it_o we_o can_v scarce_o describe_v as_o know_v it_o better_o by_o the_o experience_n of_o that_o perception_n itself_o than_o by_o a_o and_o that_o it_o know_v what_o sense_n be_v and_o what_o volition_n by_o some_o species_n or_o image_n of_o they_o in_o the_o fantasy_n which_o it_o behold_v but_o such_o word_n give_v no_o man_n a_o true_a knowledge_n of_o the_o thing_n inquire_v of_o unless_o withal_o he_o read_v the_o solution_n experimental_o in_o his_o own_o soul._n i_o know_v not_o what_o the_o meaning_n of_o a_o reflect_v act_n be_v be_v it_o the_o same_o act_n which_o be_v call_v direct_a and_o reflect_v and_o do_v the_o intellect_n know_v that_o it_o know_v by_o the_o very_a same_o act_n by_o which_o it_o know_v other_o thing_n if_o so_o why_o be_v it_o call_v reflect_v and_o what_o be_v that_o reflection_n but_o the_o contrary_n be_v common_o say_v that_o divers_a object_n make_v divers_a act_n and_o
