apostle_n the_o ministration_n of_o death_n 3.7_o but_o by_o the_o gospel_n come_v glad_a tiding_n of_o pardon_n and_o propitiation_n to_o disconsolate_a sinner_n and_o while_o we_o be_v sit_v in_o the_o darkness_n of_o despair_n by_o reason_n of_o our_o sin_n break_v in_o upon_o we_o with_o beam_n of_o comfort_n from_o the_o sun_n of_o righteousness_n thus_o as_o it_o say_v sin_v not_o so_o withal_o if_o we_o fall_v into_o sin_n it_o say_v despair_v not_o a_o careful_a endeavour_n against_o sin_n it_o require_v yet_o when_o we_o have_v sin_v it_o leave_v we_o not_o without_o hope_n but_o direct_v we_o to_o christ_n as_o a_o intercessor_n and_o reconciler_n for_o so_o we_o find_v st._n john_n here_o in_o those_o word_n which_o may_v therefore_o be_v true_o call_v the_o epitome_n and_o which_o may_v be_v consider_v either_o mere_o as_o conjunctive_a or_o as_o causal_n 1._o if_o we_o read_v it_o only_o as_o a_o conjunctive_a particle_n it_o let_v we_o see_v that_o christ_n be_v a_o advocate_n become_v a_o propitiation_n indeed_o the_o work_n of_o reconciliation_n according_a to_o a_o different_a notion_n belong_v both_o to_o christ_n sacrifice_n and_o his_o intercession_n the_o meritorious_a purchase_n of_o our_o peace_n belong_v to_o his_o sacrifice_n the_o effectual_a application_n of_o it_o to_o we_o belong_v to_o his_o intercession_n the_o shed_n of_o his_o blood_n upon_o the_o cross_n be_v that_o which_o wrought_v reconciliation_n for_o all_o that_o shall_v believe_v in_o he_o the_o presenting_z his_o blood_n in_o heaven_n be_v that_o which_o obtain_v the_o actual_a collation_n of_o this_o benefit_n upon_o they_o who_o do_v believe_v in_o he_o this_o be_v excellent_o tipify_v under_o the_o law_n by_o the_o blood_n 16.17_o and_o the_o incense_n which_o the_o priest_n make_v use_v of_o in_o the_o atonement_n the_o former_a prefigure_v christ_n suffering_n and_o the_o latter_a his_o advocateship_n by_o both_o which_o the_o propitiation_n be_v make_v so_o it_o let_v we_o see_v what_o give_v the_o efficacy_n to_o christ_n intercession_n to_o wit_n his_o propitiation_n this_o will_v the_o better_o appear_v if_o we_o consider_v that_o 1._o this_o propitiation_n for_o our_o sin_n be_v merit_v by_o christ_n blood_n and_o therefore_o god_n be_v say_v to_o set_v he_o forth_o a_o propitiation_n through_o faith_n in_o his_o blood_n and_o christ_n be_v say_v to_o make_v peace_n through_o the_o blood_n of_o his_o cross_n loc_n indeed_o there_o can_v be_v no_o propitiation_n of_o wrath_n without_o satisfaction_n of_o justice_n and_o there_o can_v be_v no_o satisfaction_n of_o justice_n without_o shed_v of_o blood_n whereby_o the_o punishment_n be_v suffer_v which_o justice_n require_v 2._o christ_n make_v intercession_n in_o the_o virtue_n
