my_o back_n and_o not_o my_o face_n therefore_o i_o think_v and_o persuade_v myself_o that_o he_o always_o see_v i_o and_o never_o turn_v his_o eye_n from_o i_o for_o to_o mark_v what_o i_o say_v what_o fervency_n i_o have_v what_o reverence_n i_o show_v unto_o he_o likewise_o in_o what_o repentance_n love_n &_o unity_n i_o do_v exercise_v myself_o then_o afterward_o i_o humble_o thank_v he_o for_o all_o his_o benefit_n bestow_v upon_o i_o and_o general_o upon_o all_o creature_n have_v they_o oftentimes_o in_o my_o mind_n and_o rehearse_v they_o unto_o he_o because_o i_o know_v that_o he_o son_n who_o be_v the_o fair_a gentle_a and_o most_o worthy_a that_o ever_o be_v or_o shall_v be_v be_v like_a unto_o his_o father_n in_o all_o thing_n and_o yet_o the_o most_o obedient_a that_o be_v or_o ever_o shall_v be_v this_o son_n be_v love_v as_o much_o as_o hun_z self_n because_o he_o be_v more_o like_a unto_o he_o than_o ever_o son_n be_v unto_o his_o father_n and_o the_o unity_n and_o love_n between_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n be_v so_o exceed_v great_a that_o they_o be_v both_o one_o of_o one_o will_n force_n power_n wisdom_n &_o majesty_n and_o although_o they_o be_v distinguish_v in_o person_n be_v notwithstanding_o but_o of_o one_o substance_n and_o essence_n my_o lord_n do_v make_v with_o his_o own_o hand_n for_o this_o his_o son_n a_o shepherd_n garment_n wherewithal_o be_v clothe_v come_v out_o of_o his_o father_n chamber_n yet_o never_o be_v from_o he_o but_o always_o with_o he_o and_o be_v daily_o conversant_a with_o we_o in_o this_o house_n for_o otherwise_o we_o can_v not_o see_v nor_o know_v he_o and_o thus_o apparel_v his_o father_n send_v he_o with_o a_o basket_n at_o his_o arm_n through_o the_o whole_a world_n &_o likewise_o through_o this_o wilderness_n to_o seek_v out_o his_o sheep_n that_o be_v lose_v and_o run_v astray_o and_o as_o he_o be_v walk_a through_o the_o desert_n his_o father_n suffer_v he_o to_o be_v slay_v by_o the_o wolf_n and_o devour_v by_o dog_n and_o in_o no_o wise_a will_v come_v to_o aid_v or_o assist_v he_o although_o he_o be_v able_a enough_o to_o have_v do_v it_o but_o his_o will_n be_v that_o the_o wolf_n shall_v tear_v he_o in_o piece_n and_o put_v he_o to_o the_o most_o cruel_a death_n that_o can_v be_v invent_v or_o imagine_v and_o shall_v use_v he_o the_o worse_a because_o he_o be_v a_o king_n son_n and_o this_o do_v our_o lord_n for_o mere_a love_n which_o he_o bear_v we_o because_o that_o all_o they_o which_o be_v of_o his_o household_n may_v perceive_v and_o see_v how_o dear_o he_o love_v we_o in_o that_o he_o have_v not_o spare_v his_o own_o son_n but_o have_v give_v he_o in_o sacrifice_n for_o we_o therefore_o be_v we_o bind_v to_o love_v he_o also_o because_o he_o love_v we_o so_o much_o before_o when_o the_o love_n of_o god_n be_v tell_v this_o desire_v weep_v bitter_o so_o that_o his_o hart_n seem_v to_o break_v in_o piece_n the_o father_n love_v the_o son_n so_o much_o say_v the_o love_n of_o god_n that_o although_o he_o suffer_v he_o to_o be_v put_v to_o death_n yet_o through_o his_o omnipotency_n do_v soon_o raise_v he_o up_o again_o from_o the_o dead_z with_o more_o glozie_n and_o triumph_v they_o ever_o before_o carrying_z with_o he_o those_o sheep_n for_o who_o bee_n be_v come_v have_v a_o special_a care_n over_o those_o who_o he_o have_v yet_o leave_v in_o the_o desert_n and_o pasture_n to_o wax_v fat_a and_o thus_o he_o return_v into_o his_o father_n chamber_n where_o he_o now_o sit_v at_o his_o right_a hand_n make_v daily_a intercession_n for_o we_o and_o excuse_v our_o infirmity_n for_o the_o unspeakable_a love_n which_o he_o bear_v unto_o mankind_n &_o i_o believe_v that_o if_o it_o be_v not_o for_o his_o sake_n the_o lord_n will_v have_v cast_v we_o long_o ago_o out_o of_o this_o house_n for_o our_o great_a wickedness_n sake_n because_o we_o serve_v he_o so_o negligent_o without_o any_o zeal_n or_o affection_n and_o so_o high_o do_v forget_v he_o &_o put_v he_o out_o of_o mind_n for_o every_o trifle_n and_o small_a occasion_n the_o father_n love_v his_o son_n so_o dear_o that_o i_o believe_v not_o that_o there_o be_v any_o thing_n in_o this_o world_n wherewith_o we_o can_v do_v he_o better_o service_n then_o in_o love_v of_o his_o son_n therefore_o i_o endeavour_n myself_o to_o love_n &_o please_v his_o son_n wherein_o quoth_v desire_n do_v you_o love_v and_o please_v he_o when_o ay_o answer_v the_o love_n of_o god_n remember_v his_o holy_a life_n his_o exceed_a great_a travail_n his_o death_n &_o his_o bless_a who_o my_o lord_n love_v be_v my_o page_n call_v neighbourly_a love_n for_o he_o love_v this_o lad_n so_o tender_o that_o all_o that_o we_o do_v unto_o he_o whether_o it_o be_v good_a or_o evil_n he_o do_v take_v it_o as_o it_o be_v do_v unto_o his_o own_o person_n in_o what_o love_n you_o this_o boy_n quoth_v desire_n first_o ol_n all_o i_o esteem_v he_o to_o be_v better_a than_o myself_o and_o although_o i_o do_v supply_v a_o great_a and_o high_a office_n yet_o be_o obedient_a unto_o he_o in_o all_o lawful_a &_o good_a thing_n i_o take_v heed_n in_o no_o wise_a to_o hinder_v or_o endamage_v because_o there_o be_v many_o lady_n dwell_v in_o it_o under_o one_o sovereign_a call_v humility_n and_o what_o gentle_a woman_n be_v she_o say_v he_o that_o watch_v without_o at_o the_o gate_n she_o be_v call_v vainglory_n answer_v she_o watch_v continual_o at_o the_o gate_n till_o they_o be_v open_v and_o whensoever_o the_o porter_n look_v not_o narrow_o to_o she_o or_o take_v small_a heed_n to_o his_o charge_n than_o she_o presume_v oftentimes_o to_o come_v in_o wherefore_o will_v thou_o not_o suffer_v she_o to_o come_v in_o say_a desire_n see_v her_o word_n her_o apparel_n and_o favour_n seem_v to_o be_v honest_a and_o virtuous_a ah_o brother_n answer_v she_o thou_o do_v not_o yet_o know_v she_o for_o she_o be_v a_o most_o pestilent_a and_o wicked_a creature_n and_o say_v desire_n as_o much_o as_o she_o be_v able_a to_o do_v answer_v the_o lady_n for_o she_o be_v daughter_n to_o a_o wicked_a father_n call_v self-love_n and_o to_o a_o worse_a mother_n call_v self-conceit_n these_o three_o be_v our_o great_a foe_n in_o the_o world_n be_v yet_o great_a enemy_n to_o the_o lord_n and_o chief_a of_o the_o house_n call_v the_o love_n of_o god_n will_v thou_o know_v what_o injury_n she_o do_v unto_o we_o whensoever_o she_o enter_v by_o one_o way_n or_o another_o into_o the_o house_n she_o be_v very_o greedy_a and_o hungry_a and_o run_v present_o to_o a_o garden_n and_o eat_v all_o the_o fruit_n of_o the_o best_a tree_n which_o we_o have_v by_o the_o which_o we_o do_v live_v only_o &_o be_v all_o maintain_v and_o have_v but_o one_o of_o these_o tree_n which_o be_v not_o yet_o very_o fruitful_a when_o she_o have_v thereof_o steal_v the_o fruit_n away_o we_o remain_v very_o poor_a and_o be_v scarce_o able_a to_o live_v beside_o which_o be_v far_o worse_a she_o be_v a_o great_a flatterer_n and_o have_v so_o smooth_a a_o tongue_n that_o whensoever_o she_o be_v come_v within_o there_o be_v none_o that_o be_v able_a to_o thrust_v she_o out_o again_o but_o only_o our_o sovereign_a humility_n who_o when_o she_o see_v present_o show_v her_o heel_n and_o run_v away_o as_o fast_o as_o she_o can_v therefore_o it_o be_v best_a not_o to_o let_v she_o come_v in_o &_o to_o this_o intent_n have_v we_o make_v this_o old_a man_n our_o porter_n because_o he_o be_v something_o hard_a and_o froward_a and_o speedy_o clap_v the_o door_n to_o her_o face_n and_o take_v great_a heed_n that_o she_o enter_v not_o by_o stealth_n or_o on_o a_o sudden_a moreover_o we_o have_v desire_v he_o that_o he_o shall_v look_v well_o to_o his_o charge_n in_o open_v and_o shut_v the_o gate_n desire_n wonder_v at_o this_o lady_n word_n say_v thou_o have_v reason_n not_o to_o suffer_v she_o to_o come_v in_o see_v what_o great_a harm_n you_o all_o receive_v by_o she_o the_o sixth_o chapter_n concern_v the_o way_n to_o humility_n tell_v i_o say_a desire_n who_o bring_v thou_o in_o this_o fair_a &_o costly_a palace_n two_o lady_n answer_v she_o the_o one_o call_v contempt_n of_o the_o world_n and_o the_o other_o contempt_n of_o herself_o whereof_o the_o last_o be_v more_o holy_a than_o the_o first_o these_o two_o damsel_n do_v guide_v and_o conduct_v he_o because_o he_o perceive_v that_o the_o love_n of_o god_n be_v so_o much_o esteem_v of_o in_o this_o place_n sister_n say_v desire_n of_o what_o kindred_n be_v these_o two_o lady_n who_o bring_v page_n with_o he_o who_o he_o love_v sincere_o and_o be_v call_v neighbourly_a love._n can_v thou_o not_o show_v i_o say_v desire_n whether_o this_o knight_n be_v go_v i_o say_v she_o but_o first_o we_o will_v go_v within_o and_o i_o will_v bring_v thou_o by_o some_o that_o will_v give_v thou_o better_a direction_n but_o good_a lord_n quoth_v she_o what_o do_v thou_o with_o this_o great_a mastine_n he_o be_v give_v i_o say_v he_o for_o at_o the_o first_o i_o have_v but_o a_o small_a one_o that_o be_v bring_v up_o in_o my_o chamber_n till_o i_o meet_v a_o shepherd_n who_o have_v bestow_v this_o dog_n upon_o i_o to_o bring_v i_o in_o safety_n through_o this_o great_a forest_n how_o do_v thou_o call_v he_o say_v she_o goodwill_n say_v he_o it_o be_v a_o very_a good_a dog_n quoth_v she_o &_o if_o thou_o can_v keep_v he_o well_o thou_o shall_v be_v sure_a as_o long_o as_o he_o shall_v remain_v with_o thou_o that_o he_o will_v not_o suffer_v any_o harm_n to_o fall_v upon_o thou_o and_o thou_o need_v not_o to_o fear_v that_o thou_o shall_v go_v astray_o out_o of_o the_o right_a way_n tell_v i_o say_v desire_n who_o shall_v show_v i_o this_o knight_n brother_n answer_v she_o he_o dwell_v far_o from_o this_o place_n and_o thou_o must_v go_v seven_o day_n journey_n at_o the_o least_o through_o this_o desert_n before_o thou_o can_v come_v to_o he_o where_o he_o dwell_v there_o be_v seven_o house_n in_o this_o desert_n and_o there_o be_v no_o other_o high_a way_n but_o one_o but_o for_o the_o love_n of_o god_n i_o will_v show_v thou_o a_o short_a foot_n path_n which_o will_v shorten_v thy_o way_n that_o thou_o may_v come_v the_o soon_o to_o thy_o journey_n end_n but_o thou_o must_v follow_v my_o counsel_n desire_n be_v glad_a to_o hear_v these_o word_n the_o four_o of_o fortitude_n the_o five_o of_o temperance_n the_o sixth_o of_o faith_n the_o seven_o of_o hope_n the_o eight_o of_o charity_n and_o in_o the_o last_o of_o all_o dwellet_n the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o be_v sovereign_n of_o the_o house_n &_o all_o this_o way_n must_v thou_o go_v so_o thou_o will_v not_o go_v out_o of_o thy_o way_n but_o as_o i_o have_v tell_v thou_o before_o so_o according_a to_o my_o promise_n will_v i_o show_v thou_o a_o foot_n path_n to_o shorten_v thy_o way_n but_o first_o of_o all_o must_v thou_o dwell_v for_o a_o time_n here_o in_o this_o house_n for_o to_o learn_v mark_n and_o remember_v all_o our_o manner_n and_o become_v acquaint_v with_o our_o sovereign_n &_o her_o watch_a maid_n and_o never_o to_o forget_v their_o name_n nor_o their_o countenance_n and_o when_o thou_o shall_v have_v have_v a_o trial_n of_o all_o belong_v to_o this_o house_n and_o shall_v bring_v certain_a token_n from_o we_o to_o the_o love_n of_o god_n then_o soon_o will_v he_o entertain_v thou_o for_o the_o great_a affection_n he_o bear_v to_o our_o house_n above_o any_o of_o the_o rest_n and_o chief_o when_o he_o shall_v see_v a_o letter_n from_o our_o sovereign_n wherefore_o demand_v desire_n do_v this_o knight_n love_v this_o house_n more_o
do_v utter_o displease_v my_o god_n and_o father_n who_o be_v man_n in_o this_o world_n and_o have_v take_v upon_o he_o our_o shape_n and_o nature_n seek_v not_o with_o word_n or_o deed_n to_o command_v but_o rather_o to_o be_v command_v of_o the_o simple_a and_o whosoever_o keep_v not_o this_o way_n take_v the_o high_a way_n to_o condemnation_n miss_v the_o right_a path_n lead_v to_o eternal_a life_n ah_o poor_a and_o miserable_a wretch_n that_o seek_v to_o command_v and_o direct_v other_o have_v more_o then_o enough_o to_o command_v and_o govern_v themselves_o whosoever_o hunt_v after_o this_o honour_n seek_v care_n grief_n travail_n pain_n distress_n and_o danger_n o_o heavy_a burden_n that_o bring_v to_o a_o man_n but_o pain_n and_o grief_n &_o the_o ill_a will_n gainsay_v and_o murmur_v of_o those_o that_o be_v bind_v in_o duty_n to_o recompense_v labour_n with_o thanks_n and_o thankfulness_n which_o thoâ—_n shall_v find_v to_o be_v most_o true_a if_o thou_o remayne_v but_o a_o while_n with_o us._n and_o because_o i_o shall_v satisfy_v thou_o upon_o thy_o demand_n i_o will_v not_o hide_v from_o thou_o this_o secret_a but_o for_o the_o love_n of_o god_n open_a and_o disclose_v to_o thou_o my_o heart_n when_o i_o come_v first_o to_o this_o house_n i_o humble_v myself_o as_o a_o slave_n and_o servant_n to_o all_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o damsel_n which_o lowliness_n i_o have_v continual_o so_o love_v and_o embrace_v that_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n do_v marry_v i_o to_o this_o mind_n as_o to_o a_o husband_n by_o who_o mean_n i_o have_v get_v this_o office_n although_o i_o do_v utterlie_o detest_v it_o and_o refuse_v it_o when_o desire_n do_v hear_v this_o be_v honoy_v this_o lady_n great_o in_o his_o hart_n &_o esteem_v she_o to_o be_v very_o virtuous_a the_o will_v for_o the_o love_n of_o god_n become_v so_o humble_a &_o lowly_a and_o say_v now_o do_v i_o see_v whosoever_o will_v become_v a_o governor_n and_o commander_n of_o other_o must_v first_o of_o all_o follow_v your_o ladyship_n step_n and_o learn_v to_o be_v humble_a &_o cammand_v it_o be_v so_o my_o son_n answer_v she_o and_o if_o thou_o do_v understande_v â—ne_a right_n than_o thou_o shall_v perceive_v that_o they_o be_v not_o my_o word_n but_o the_o everlasting_a truth_n how_o shall_v i_o understand_v they_o quoth_v desire_n thou_o must_v know_v say_v she_o that_o he_o who_o humble_v himself_o shall_v be_v exalt_v although_o he_o do_v not_o humble_v himself_o to_o that_o intent_n to_o be_v exalt_v for_o by_o these_o mean_v he_o shall_v fall_v into_o pride_n and_o humility_n and_o pride_n be_v contrary_n one_o to_o other_o for_o if_o one_o humble_v himself_o in_o any_o work_n which_o he_o take_v in_o hand_n in_o on_o wise_n may_v he_o become_v proud_a of_o it_o although_o in_o his_o work_n consist_v humility_n yet_o in_o himself_o humble_v himself_o to_o such_o a_o end_n as_o i_o have_v speak_v of_o shall_v consist_v pride_n and_o ambition_n and_o because_o the_o work_n take_v his_o name_n and_o title_n from_o the_o intent_n of_o a_o man_n mind_n it_o happen_v that_o such_o humility_n be_v proper_o term_v with_o the_o name_n of_o pride_n and_o arrogancy_n and_o to_o speak_v more_o plain_o of_o this_o humility_n be_v not_o altogether_o contrary_a to_o pride_n see_v they_o do_v remain_v at_o one_o time_n in_o one_o body_n together_o which_o defender_n in_o a_o battle_n which_o i_o daily_o sustain_v against_o a_o mighty_a princess_n of_o a_o other_o palace_n who_o have_v a_o great_a sort_n of_o lady_n under_o her_o jurisdiction_n and_o oftentimes_o of_o no_o force_n and_o very_o weak_a therefore_o she_o bring_v with_o e_o her_o a_o foolish_a idiot_n and_o unbrideled_a watch_v maid_n call_v maliciousness_n beside_o 3._o other_o more_o the_o one_o called_z wrath_n the_o other_o slothfulness_n and_o the_o three_o enuy._n and_o with_o these_o two_o last_o there_o come_v two_o other_o name_v ill_a suspicion_n &_o false_a judgement_n these_o be_v altogether_o my_o mortal_a enemy_n against_o who_o i_o be_o force_v to_o sight_n &_o to_o strive_v &_o whensoever_o they_o have_v make_v a_o entrance_n here_o in_o our_o house_n then_o by_o the_o lowness_n of_o my_o mind_n i_o drive_v they_o out_o again_o and_o do_v give_v they_o the_o foil_n but_o when_o i_o &_o my_o company_n have_v do_v this_o then_o must_v we_o be_v careful_a only_o but_o for_o one_o thing_n which_o be_v diligent_o to_o look_v that_o this_o damsel_n call_v vainglory_n continual_o keep_v sentinel_n at_o our_o door_n do_v not_o enter_v for_o when_o soever_o she_o come_v within_o than_o she_o do_v rob_v we_o of_o all_o the_o profit_n delight_n and_o pleasure_n which_o we_o take_v in_o over_o come_v in_o other_o so_o that_o we_o can_v not_o wise_a enjoy_v the_o fruit_n of_o our_o pain_n and_o travail_v and_o when_o these_o other_o lady_n say_v desire_n make_v a_o entrance_n here_o within_o for_o to_o endamage_v you_o wherefore_o do_v not_o she_o that_o stand_v without_o at_o the_o gate_n come_v in_o with_o they_o because_o answer_v humility_n that_o the_o other_o lady_n have_v wing_n and_o never_o enter_v through_o the_o door_n but_o fly_v always_o over_o the_o wall_n of_o the_o house_n and_o oftentimes_o do_v hide_v themselves_o in_o some_o corner_n of_o the_o house_n &_o lie_v in_o ambush_n for_o to_o assault_v we_o when_o we_o think_v least_o upon_o they_o therefore_o it_o be_v most_o necessary_a that_o we_o shall_v watch_v and_o ward_v continual_o that_o we_o be_v not_o assault_v be_v altogether_o unprovided_a for_o to_o fight_v let_v we_o speak_v some_o thing_n more_o plain_a of_o this_o point_n quoth_v desire_v wherefore_o do_v you_o contend_v &_o strive_v with_o they_o see_v it_o be_v not_o well_o do_v to_o give_v a_o evil_a example_n to_o other_o which_o happen_v when_o man_n see_v such_o jar_n strife_n and_o contention_n between_o wise_a and_o godly_a people_n who_o shall_v be_v merciful_a meek_a and_o bountiful_a for_o the_o love_n of_o god_n towards_o every_o body_n we_o battle_n and_o contend_v with_o they_o say_v humility_n and_o seek_v to_o drive_v they_o out_o of_o our_o house_n because_o they_o be_v mortal_a enemy_n to_o the_o love_n of_o god_n who_o be_v our_o only_a landelorde_n &_o in_o matter_n which_o be_v contrary_a unto_o he_o we_o shall_v nor_o will_v not_o contract_v or_o enter_v in_o league_n with_o any_o body_n the_o ten_o chapter_n do_v entreat_v of_o the_o concupiscence_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o how_o to_o overcome_v it_o the_o good_a will_n &_o loyalty_n which_o lady_n humility_n do_v bear_v to_o the_o love_n of_o god_n do_v wonderful_o delight_v desire_n and_o say_v madam_n i_o will_v be_v glad_a that_o it_o will_v please_v your_o ladyship_n to_o show_v and_o teach_v i_o the_o mean_n whereby_o you_o do_v use_v to_o overcome_v these_o wicked_a lady_n your_o enemy_n and_o drive_v they_o out_o of_o your_o house_n i_o will_v to_o god_n answer_v she_o the_o great_a token_n and_o witness_n which_o we_o can_v have_v of_o his_o love_n towards_o we_o be_v when_o he_o do_v not_o comfort_v we_o in_o this_o wretched_a world_n or_o bestow_v on_o we_o all_o the_o poverty_n of_o the_o spirit_n they_o to_o that_o of_o the_o boly_n and_o the_o prophet_n say_v if_o thy_o good_n and_o wealth_n do_v increase_v set_v not_o thy_o heart_n upon_o it_o therefore_o i_o esteem_v that_o the_o virtue_n of_o poverty_n do_v not_o consist_v in_o possess_v little_a or_o much_o but_o in_o the_o hart_n and_o mind_n of_o the_o possessor_n it_o be_v true_a quoth_v she_o that_o the_o virtue_n of_o poverty_n consist_v in_o the_o spiritie_n yet_o for_o the_o love_n of_o god_n to_o forbear_v these_o thing_n it_o be_v a_o precious_a virtue_n &_o worthy_a of_o great_a praise_n &_o commendation_n for_o our_o love_n and_o desire_n be_v so_o much_o incline_v to_o the_o beauty_n and_o comeliness_n of_o these_o earthly_a thing_n that_o hardly_o we_o can_v possess_v they_o without_o fix_v our_o whole_a mind_n upon_o they_o and_o because_o they_o shall_v not_o draw_v we_o away_o from_o the_o love_n which_o we_o bear_v to_o god_n which_o common_o be_v very_o small_a it_o be_v good_a and_o wise_o do_v to_o take_v the_o flax_n from_o the_o fire_n and_o to_o remove_v &_o prevent_v all_o occasion_n of_o mischief_n as_o much_o as_o lie_v in_o us._n for_o the_o love_n of_o god_n will_v have_v all_o the_o heart_n and_o can_v abide_v no_o partner_n and_o take_v of_o this_o a_o example_n of_o our_o saviour_n himself_o who_o can_v have_v possess_v all_o the_o wealth_n of_o this_o world_n &_o that_o without_o to_o set_v his_o mind_n upon_o it_o but_o behold_v i_o pray_v thou_o how_o poor_a he_o and_o all_o his_o apostle_n be_v what_o do_v this_o else_o signify_v but_o that_o we_o shall_v abstain_v from_o these_o thing_n which_o be_v so_o dangerous_a &_o draw_v many_o that_o do_v possess_v they_o into_o everlasting_a pain_n and_o damnation_n the_o twenty_o one_o chapter_n intreat_v of_o obedience_n desire_n be_v likewise_o comfort_v by_o this_o damsel_n and_o take_v his_o leave_n of_o she_o and_o his_o guide_n bring_v he_o to_o a_o other_o of_o lady_n humility_n daughter_n call_v obedience_n who_o he_o great_o do_v reverence_v for_o her_o countenance_n and_o outward_a apparaunce_n do_v show_v that_o she_o be_v of_o great_a dignity_n and_o more_o esteem_v of_o by_o the_o love_n of_o god_n than_o any_o of_o her_o sister_n be_v and_o when_o he_o do_v offer_v to_o kiss_v her_o hand_n she_o will_v not_o suffer_v it_o for_o she_o be_v one_o of_o lady_n humilitye_n daughter_n and_o seek_v not_o after_o honour_n and_o promotion_n but_o she_o bid_v he_o to_o sit_v down_o by_o she_o whereupon_o desire_n do_v inquire_v her_o name_n and_o condition_n my_o name_n quoth_v the_o lady_n be_v obedience_n &_o i_o be_o marry_v to_o a_o husband_n call_v to_o leave_v nothing_o undo_v who_o be_v a_o very_a valiant_a and_o renown_a knight_n and_o he_o only_o be_v able_a to_o overthrow_v this_o fearful_a and_o terrible_a beast_n range_v thus_o in_o the_o world_n call_v self-will_n which_o beast_n do_v devour_v all_o those_o that_o follow_v and_o love_v he_o and_o cause_v through_o his_o sweet_a whistle_n all_o the_o ungodly_a to_o follow_v he_o and_o few_o do_v leave_v he_o before_o he_o have_v bring_v they_o to_o eternal_a destruction_n but_o every_o body_n fly_v away_o from_o i_o although_o it_o be_v most_o true_a that_o without_o i_o none_o can_v get_v and_o obtain_v the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o see_v that_o god_n have_v give_v i_o so_o good_a a_o husband_n therefore_o i_o do_v nothing_o but_o that_o he_o command_v i_o likewise_o i_o crave_v nothing_o at_o his_o hand_n but_o necessary_n and_o i_o never_o do_v go_v about_o any_o thing_n alone_o for_o fear_n of_o thief_n for_o here_o be_v many_o and_o hide_v themselves_o so_o that_o i_o can_v see_v they_o who_o go_v then_o with_o you_o quoth_v desire_n first_o answer_v she_o a_o trusty_a dog_n call_v good_a will_n and_o my_o sister_n sincerity_n and_o my_o daughter_n foresight_n mirth_n diligence_n and_o chastity_n and_o before_o all_o thing_n my_o mother_n humility_n will_v always_o accompany_v i_o all_o these_o must_v i_o needs_o take_v with_o i_o for_o to_o go_v sure_a and_o without_o danger_n and_o for_o to_o do_v those_o thing_n which_o be_v command_v i_o i_o pray_v you_o quoth_v desire_n to_o tell_v i_o in_o what_o sort_n your_o mother_n humility_n be_v always_o with_o you_o in_o all_o thing_n which_o you_o take_v in_o hand_n for_o i_o can_v well_o understande_v it_o of_o all_o thing_n which_o i_o do_v answer_v she_o although_o they_o be_v the_o great_a of_o the_o world_n i_o think_v not_o once_o that_o i_o have_v do_v any_o goodness_n nor_o set_v my_o trust_n or_o confidence_n upon_o they_o nor_o do_v exalt_v myself_o for_o they_o nor_o persuade_v myself_o that_o other_o be_v not_o able_a to_o do_v the_o like_a or_o better_o nor_o do_v desire_n that_o any_o man_n shall_v praise_v i_o although_o i_o shall_v seem_v to_o have_v do_v great_a wonder_n but_o humble_o i_o do_v thank_v the_o lord_n that_o it_o have_v congregation_n or_o company_n of_o many_o for_o he_o be_v constrain_v to_o go_v oftentimes_o hither_o and_o thither_o for_o to_o dispatch_v his_o business_n beside_o it_o be_v both_o decent_a and_o godly_a to_o be_v affable_a and_o courteous_a to_o every_o man_n for_o not_o to_o fall_v in_o the_o vice_n of_o self-love_n or_o partiality_n which_o be_v to_o be_v abhor_v and_o to_o be_v detest_v although_o it_o seem_v to_o carry_v a_o fair_a shine_n or_o colour_n of_o virtue_n and_o godliness_n it_o be_v true_a answer_v she_o but_o nevertheless_o the_o love_n of_o god_n command_v we_o that_o we_o shall_v be_v circumspect_a in_o all_o our_o action_n and_o do_v nothing_o but_o by_o necessity_n according_a to_o the_o greatness_n of_o our_o affair_n and_o to_o be_v careful_a always_o for_o these_o jewel_n which_o we_o have_v in_o our_o custody_n that_o we_o do_v not_o lose_v they_o how_o must_v we_o then_o behave_v ourselves_o quoth_v desire_n for_o to_o do_v as_o much_o as_o lie_v in_o we_o it_o be_v needful_a answer_v she_o that_o he_o who_o be_v not_o able_a for_o his_o business_n sake_n to_o keep_v he_o from_o company_n endanger_n hereby_o great_o the_o looimg_n of_o these_o the_o last_o the_o love_n of_o god_n who_o comprehend_v all_o perfection_n of_o charity_n must_v fly_v and_o shut_v door_n and_o window_n and_o if_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a for_o he_o to_o do_v and_o therefore_o do_v ask_v her_o name_n and_o pray_v she_o to_o tell_v he_o her_o manner_n and_o condition_n my_o name_n quoth_v she_o be_v povertio_fw-la and_o for_o the_o love_n of_o god_n i_o do_v not_o possess_v nor_o care_n for_o any_o worldly_a thing_n wherein_o quoth_v desire_n take_v you_o then_o your_o joy_n and_o all_o your_o comfort_n my_o chief_a treasure_n answer_v she_o wealth_n and_o riches_n joy_n and_o comfort_n consist_v to_o forbear_v all_o thing_n for_o the_o love_n of_o god_n i_o do_v great_o marvel_v of_o this_o quoth_v desire_n for_o i_o be_v tell_v that_o this_o palace_n be_v build_v by_o the_o most_o noble_a rich_a and_o most_o bountifull_a knight_n of_o the_o earth_n wherefore_o do_v he_o suffer_v then_o so_o poor_a and_o needy_a people_n to_o dwell_v in_o it_o for_o i_o can_v conceive_v what_o profit_n or_o gain_v he_o receive_v by_o your_o poverty_n need_n and_o necessity_n i_o will_v tell_v it_o thou_o answer_v she_o the_o landlord_n &_o the_o founder_n of_o this_o house_n be_v lord_n and_o king_n of_o all_o the_o earth_n have_v all_o her_o riches_n and_o wealth_n in_o his_o hand_n &_o power_n and_o yet_o it_o be_v his_o will_n and_o pleasure_n that_o we_o shall_v be_v poor_a because_o we_o shall_v not_o settle_v our_o heart_n upon_o any_o thing_n but_o upon_o he_o only_o for_o he_o be_v able_a enough_o to_o give_v we_o all_o thing_n abundant_o but_o these_o who_o he_o love_v he_o do_v give_v they_o none_o of_o this_o earthly_a felicity_n because_o they_o shall_v only_o desire_v and_o love_v he_o and_o hate_v this_o transitory_a and_o deceitful_a world_n
