both_o kind_n of_o work_n shall_v be_v recompense_v respective_o with_o blessedness_n and_o with_o torment_n proportionable_o to_o the_o measure_n and_o degree_n wherein_o the_o one_o have_v be_v good_a and_o the_o other_o have_v be_v evil_a this_o appear_v from_o several_a place_n of_o scripture_n as_o likewise_o from_o the_o reason_n itself_o sect._n 13_o 2_o cor._n 9.6_o he_o that_o sow_v spare_o shall_v reap_v spare_o but_o be_v that_o sow_v bountiful_o shall_v reap_v bountiful_o to_o restrain_v this_o to_o a_o reap_v i._n e._n to_o what_o a_o man_n be_v like_a to_o receive_v or_o shall_v receive_v in_o this_o present_a world_n be_v contrary_a to_o several_a other_o scripture_n if_o say_v the_o apostle_n 1_o cor._n 15.19_o in_o this_o life_n only_o we_o have_v hope_n in_o christ_n we_o be_v of_o all_o man_n most_o miserable_a therefore_o when_o the_o holy_a ghost_n promise_v that_o they_o who_o sow_v bountiful_o shall_v reap_v bountiful_o it_o evident_o follow_v that_o this_o must_v be_v expound_v of_o what_o they_o shall_v receive_v from_o god_n in_o the_o world_n which_o be_v to_o come_v and_o so_o in_o rev._n 14.13_o where_o it_o be_v say_v of_o those_o that_o die_v in_o the_o lord_n bless_a be_v the_o dead_a etc._n etc._n their_o work_n follow_v they_o which_o show_v that_o their_o work_n do_v not_o only_o stand_v by_o they_o or_o abide_v with_o they_o here_o while_o they_o be_v in_o this_o life_n but_o that_o when_o they_o shall_v go_v out_o of_o this_o world_n then_o bless_v be_v they_o that_o die_v in_o the_o lord_n for_o they_o rest_v from_o their_o labour_n and_o their_o work_n follow_v they_o out_o of_o this_o world_n into_o that_o which_o be_v to_o come_v the_o apostle_n give_v this_o by_o way_n of_o motive_n to_o press_v to_o good_a work_n that_o whatsoever_o good_a thing_n any_o man_n do_v the_o same_o shall_v he_o receive_v of_o the_o lord_n namely_o in_o proportion_n let_v a_o man_n do_v but_o little_a and_o he_o shall_v receive_v but_o little_a but_o let_v he_o rise_v as_o high_a as_o he_o will_v and_o be_v as_o fruitful_a as_o fruitfulness_n itself_o can_v render_v he_o he_o shall_v receive_v all_o and_o every_o you_o can_v sow_v the_o field_n of_o heaven_n so_o thick_a but_o that_o your_o harvest_n will_v be_v answerable_a mat._n 25.34_o etc._n etc._n our_o saviour_n declare_v how_o and_o after_o what_o manner_n he_o will_v entreat_v those_o that_o have_v or_o shall_v have_v minister_v unto_o he_o in_o his_o member_n come_v you_o bless_v of_o my_o father_n inherit_v the_o kingdom_n prepare_v for_o you_o from_o the_o foundation_n of_o the_o world_n for_o i_o be_v a_o hungry_a and_o you_o give_v i_o meat_n etc._n etc._n our_o saviour_n make_v this_o the_o very_a reason_n and_o account_v which_o he_o give_v unto_o the_o world_n why_o the_o saint_n be_v admit_v into_o that_o kingdom_n which_o be_v prepare_v for_o they_o i._n e._n for_o man_n and_o woman_n who_o do_v act_n in_o the_o world_n after_o such_o a_o manner_n because_o they_o have_v do_v these_o thing_n namely_o feed_v the_o hungry_a and_o clothe_v etc._n etc._n by_o the_o way_n to_o give_v a_o little_a light_n unto_o that_o question_n sect._n 14_o whether_o faith_n alone_o justify_v or_o how_o and_o in_o what_o sense_n man_n be_v justify_v by_o work_n viz._n by_o the_o work_v of_o the_o law_n whensoever_o the_o apostle_n be_v dispute_v with_o the_o jew_n he_o treat_v with_o they_o according_a to_o their_o own_o sense_n which_o be_v that_o they_o do_v expect_v to_o be_v justify_v by_o the_o work_v of_o the_o law_n upon_o a_o rigid_a account_n of_o their_o own_o righteousness_n and_o that_o upon_o the_o merit_n of_o what_o they_o do_v and_o that_o it_o will_v be_v unrighteousness_n in_o god_n not_o to_o justify_v they_o upon_o such_o term_n now_o the_o apostle_n argue_v that_o by_o the_o work_v of_o the_o law_n in_o this_o sense_n no_o man_n can_v be_v justify_v justification_n be_v take_v two_o way_n in_o scripture_n either_o for_o the_o put_n of_o man_n into_o a_o state_n of_o grace_n and_o favour_n with_o god_n or_o else_o it_o may_v be_v take_v for_o that_o final_a judgement_n or_o award_n which_o god_n will_v pronounce_v unto_o man_n in_o the_o great_a day_n now_o if_o we_o speak_v of_o the_o former_a this_o no_o way_n depend_v upon_o the_o work_v of_o the_o law_n nor_o upon_o any_o work_n whatsoever_o for_o then_o the_o bare_a or_o mere_a performance_n of_o such_o work_n will_v justify_v man_n now_o the_o justification_n which_o paul_n have_v chief_o to_o do_v with_o the_o jew_n about_o be_v the_o first_o of_o these_o justification_n which_o stand_v in_o the_o remission_n of_o sin_n which_o he_o describe_v in_o rom._n 4.7_o 8._o bless_a be_v they_o who_o iniquity_n be_v forgive_v and_o who_o sin_n be_v cover_v blessed_n be_v the_o man_n etc._n etc._n this_o do_v not_o depend_v upon_o the_o work_v of_o the_o law_n for_o without_o shed_v of_o blood_n there_o be_v no_o remission_n of_o sin_n heb._n 9.22_o therefore_o justification_n in_o this_o sense_n do_v whole_o depend_v upon_o the_o blood_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o be_v procure_v by_o it_o and_o derive_v unto_o the_o creature_n which_o do_v believe_v and_o accept_v of_o he_o for_o a_o saviour_n but_o if_o you_o take_v justification_n in_o the_o second_o sense_n either_o for_o god_n approbation_n of_o man_n or_o for_o his_o final_a award_n that_o he_o shall_v give_v unto_o man_n this_o justification_n do_v depend_v whole_o upon_o the_o matter_n upon_o man_n work_n and_o upon_o their_o righteousness_n for_o the_o sentence_n of_o that_o justification_n at_o that_o day_n shall_v be_v award_v unto_o man_n not_o according_a as_o they_o have_v believe_v but_o according_a to_o the_o righteousness_n which_o they_o have_v wrought_v and_o so_o work_n be_v necessary_a when_o it_o be_v say_v he_o that_o condemn_v the_o righteous_a and_o justifi_v the_o wicked_a that_o both_o be_v a_o abomination_n unto_o the_o lord_n prov._n 17.15_o now_o to_o justify_v here_o and_o in_o many_o other_o place_n signify_v to_o approve_v or_o discharge_v from_o punishment_n so_o that_o for_o man_n to_o approve_v of_o the_o wicked_a in_o their_o evil_a way_n and_o to_o discharge_v they_o from_o such_o punishment_n which_o ought_v to_o be_v inflict_v on_o they_o be_v a_o abomination_n to_o the_o lord_n thus_o then_o we_o see_v that_o what_o the_o scripture_n speak_v concern_v god_n reward_v man_n good_a work_n it_o be_v not_o to_o be_v restrain_v to_o any_o thing_n they_o receive_v from_o he_o in_o this_o life_n yea_o if_o what_o god_n in_o the_o scripture_n promise_v unto_o worthy_a and_o well-doing_n or_o unto_o man_n righteous_a and_o holy_a be_v confine_v to_o what_o they_o be_v like_a to_o receive_v from_o he_o in_o this_o world_n all_o the_o service_n that_o any_o man_n righteousness_n or_o fruitfulness_n in_o well_o do_v will_v do_v he_o will_v not_o amount_v to_o a_o exempt_n of_o he_o from_o be_v of_o all_o man_n the_o most_o miserable_a according_a to_o that_o passage_n of_o the_o apostle_n late_o mention_v 1_o cor._n 15._o if_o in_o this_o life_n only_o we_o have_v hope_n in_o christ_n etc._n etc._n but_o this_o only_a by_o the_o way_n sect._n 15_o that_o which_o we_o have_v in_o hand_n be_v this_o viz._n that_o the_o good_a thing_n which_o man_n and_o woman_n do_v in_o respect_n of_o the_o reward_n of_o they_o be_v not_o limit_v unto_o this_o present_a life_n beside_o the_o scripture_n already_o mention_v there_o be_v very_o many_o other_o which_o speak_v direct_o as_o to_o this_o viz._n that_o there_o shall_v be_v different_a degree_n of_o reward_n dan._n 12.3_o they_o that_o be_v wise_a shall_v shin_n as_o â—h_a brightness_n of_o the_o firmament_n and_o they_o that_o turn_v many_o unto_o righteousness_n as_o the_o star_n for_o ever_o and_o ever_o and_o so_o mat._n 10_o 41._o he_o that_o receive_v a_o prophet_n in_o the_o name_n of_o a_o prophet_n shall_v receive_v a_o prophet_n reward_n which_o clear_o
god_n they_o do_v not_o simple_o mention_v or_o insist_v upon_o what_o they_o desire_v but_o they_o desire_v it_o in_o god_n way_n and_o by_o that_o mean_n by_o which_o they_o know_v god_n be_v wont_a or_o likely_a to_o confer_v it_o thus_o when_o christ_n pray_v for_o the_o sanctification_n of_o his_o apostle_n he_o pray_v not_o simple_o that_o god_n will_v sanctify_v they_o but_o that_o he_o will_v sanctify_v they_o by_o his_o truth_n because_o he_o know_v that_o that_o be_v god_n stand_v way_n and_o method_n by_o which_o he_o be_v wont_a to_o sanctify_v man_n so_o the_o apostle_n here_o know_v that_o god_n will_v not_o do_v that_o great_a thing_n for_o the_o ephesian_n which_o he_o pray_v for_o on_o their_o behalf_n viz._n that_o they_o may_v be_v strengthen_v with_o might_n in_o their_o inner_a man_n be_v make_v glorious_a in_o their_o faith_n and_o believe_v like_o prince_n but_o by_o the_o interposure_n of_o his_o spirit_n he_o frame_v his_o prayer_n for_o it_o according_o and_o this_o be_v further_a to_o be_v consider_v that_o to_o be_v strengthen_v with_o might_n in_o the_o inner_a man_n suppose_v that_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n must_v advance_v above_o his_o ordinary_a degree_n of_o act_v to_o effect_v it_o he_o must_v not_o only_o act_v or_o interpose_v in_o man_n to_o work_v it_o but_o at_o such_o a_o rate_n of_o energy_n and_o power_n which_o be_v proportionable_a to_o such_o a_o effect_n and_o that_o be_v another_o rule_n to_o be_v mind_v when_o any_o thing_n be_v prescribe_v or_o mention_v by_o way_n of_o mean_n in_o order_n to_o such_o or_o such_o a_o end_n though_o the_o proportion_n of_o the_o mean_n be_v not_o express_v yet_o it_o be_v to_o be_v estimate_v and_o judge_v of_o by_o the_o nature_n and_o quality_n of_o the_o end_n to_o be_v obtain_v thereby_o but_o we_o have_v not_o time_n to_o stand_v upon_o this_o so_o that_o the_o apostle_n we_o see_v plain_o suppose_v this_o that_o there_o be_v no_o strengthen_n with_o might_n in_o the_o inner_a man_n which_o in_o plain_a english_a be_v that_o there_o be_v no_o believe_v at_o any_o high_a rate_n but_o by_o the_o interposure_n of_o the_o spirit_n yea_o and_o of_o such_o a_o interposure_n wherein_o he_o must_v give_v out_o himself_o at_o another_o manner_n of_o rate_n than_o it_o be_v requisite_a that_o he_o shall_v do_v in_o make_v man_n simple_o to_o believe_v second_o sect._n 9_o concern_v the_o second_o particular_a which_o be_v when_o this_o faith_n do_v triumph_n in_o the_o soul_n when_o a_o man_n be_v full_a of_o the_o glory_n and_o power_n of_o it_o to_o give_v a_o adequate_a and_o commensurable_a account_n of_o it_o to_o show_v man_n this_o faith_n in_o its_o just_a magnitude_n by_o work_n and_o not_o simple_o so_o but_o by_o such_o a_o systeme_n of_o work_n such_o a_o constant_a tenor_n of_o conversation_n which_o according_a to_o the_o interpretation_n of_o a_o man_n compare_v cause_n with_o effect_n it_o may_v be_v rational_o say_v that_o such_o a_o series_n of_o action_n such_o a_o strain_n of_o life_n and_o conversation_n can_v proceed_v from_o can_v call_v any_o other_o faith_n or_o belief_n father_n or_o mother_n but_o only_o such_o a_o faith_n which_o lift_v up_o its_o head_n unto_o the_o heaven_n for_o unless_o such_o a_o thing_n as_o this_o be_v do_v we_o shall_v not_o fill_v up_o the_o deep_a pit_n of_o the_o poverty_n of_o the_o world_n nor_o repair_v the_o sad_a breach_n which_o ignorance_n security_n and_o unbelief_n have_v make_v upon_o the_o safety_n of_o it_o for_o this_o be_v the_o case_n of_o the_o world_n as_o before_o be_v signify_v it_o be_v very_o low_a the_o vanity_n sloathfulness_n and_o folly_n of_o it_o have_v bring_v it_o to_o a_o morsel_n of_o bread_n now_o as_o when_o the_o visive_a faculty_n or_o sight_n be_v dim_a or_o any_o way_n maim_v or_o weak_a the_o object_n have_v need_n be_v very_o visible_a or_o to_o have_v many_o degree_n of_o visibility_n or_o lightsomness_n in_o it_o to_o produce_v or_o cause_v a_o act_n of_o sensation_n in_o like_a manner_n the_o capacity_n and_o principle_n in_o the_o world_n whereby_o it_o be_v in_o any_o degree_n apprehensive_a or_o sensible_a of_o the_o thing_n of_o its_o own_o recovery_n welfare_n and_o peace_n be_v depress_v scant_o and_o low_a they_o who_o desire_v to_o work_v effectual_o upon_o it_o and_o make_v it_o serviceable_a unto_o the_o world_n notwithstanding_o must_v present_v it_o with_o such_o thing_n which_o be_v very_o notorious_a and_o next_o to_o miraculous_a in_o their_o awaken_n effect_v and_o restore_a property_n or_o as_o when_o the_o stone_n or_o wood_n be_v hard_a or_o very_o resistive_a against_o the_o incision_n or_o impression_n that_o be_v desire_v to_o be_v make_v upon_o it_o the_o tool_n or_o instrument_n use_v for_o this_o purpose_n have_v need_n be_v sharp_a and_o keen_a so_o the_o temper_n of_o the_o world_n be_v very_o obdurate_a and_o stubborn_a against_o such_o impression_n that_o be_v like_a to_o benefit_n and_o accommodate_v they_o in_o their_o miserable_a condition_n that_o which_o be_v any_o way_n probable_a or_o hopeful_a to_o work_v a_o cure_n upon_o they_o or_o to_o bring_v they_o to_o a_o effectual_a and_o lively_a remembrance_n of_o themselves_o must_v have_v so_o much_o the_o more_o of_o the_o spirit_n and_o of_o the_o life_n of_o the_o vigour_n and_o power_n of_o faith_n in_o it_o therefore_o if_o man_n way_n and_o work_n shall_v be_v but_o low_o and_o ordinary_a and_o but_o level_a with_o those_o of_o the_o common_a sort_n of_o man_n in_o the_o world_n yea_o if_o they_o shall_v not_o be_v much_o above_o they_o and_o magnify_v themselves_o beyond_o they_o though_o it_o be_v suppose_v that_o the_o faith_n of_o the_o person_n we_o speak_v of_o be_v very_o royal_a and_o princelike_a yet_o will_v they_o not_o come_v at_o the_o world_n nor_o reach_v the_o obdurate_a conscience_n and_o besot_v judgement_n of_o man_n by_o the_o mediation_n or_o interposure_n of_o such_o work_n and_o way_n the_o faith_n which_o be_v in_o man_n though_o it_o be_v of_o never_o so_o large_a a_o growth_n and_o stature_n yet_o will_v it_o not_o reach_v the_o sore_a and_o sad_a malady_n of_o the_o world_n but_o only_o by_o a_o outstretch_a arm_n of_o work_n for_o let_v i_o say_v this_o though_o haply_o the_o thing_n may_v seem_v otherwise_o unto_o you_o that_o a_o man_n work_n do_v not_o always_o hold_v out_o weight_n and_o measure_n with_o his_o faith_n nor_o be_v the_o great_a believer_n always_o the_o great_a doer_n a_o full_a fountain_n indeed_o always_o send_v forth_o a_o stream_n of_o water_n answerable_a to_o the_o fullness_n of_o it_o but_o this_o be_v because_o a_o fountain_n be_v a_o natural_a cause_n and_o so_o always_o give_v out_o itself_o to_o the_o uttermost_a of_o its_o power_n whereas_o a_o believer_n be_v a_o voluntary_a agent_n may_v moderate_v and_o temper_v himself_o as_o he_o please_v in_o the_o exercise_n of_o those_o principle_n out_o of_o which_o he_o act_v hence_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o some_o man_n though_o they_o be_v large_a in_o believe_v yet_o be_v they_o straight_o in_o give_v testimony_n to_o their_o own_o faith_n we_o know_v many_o have_v the_o gift_n of_o wisdom_n who_o have_v not_o the_o gift_n of_o utterance_n many_o that_o be_v very_o excellent_a in_o wisdom_n and_o deep_a in_o understanding_n yet_o they_o be_v flow_v of_o utterance_n and_o so_o under_o a_o great_a disadvantage_n to_o get_v forth_o their_o wisdom_n so_o many_o have_v a_o excellent_a and_o a_o glorious_a work_n of_o faith_n yet_o may_v they_o suffer_v through_o a_o ineptitude_n or_o backwardness_n of_o spirit_n to_o assert_v that_o high_a degree_n of_o faith_n by_o work_n proportionable_a thereunto_o or_o any_o way_n competent_a to_o evince_v what_o manner_n of_o faith_n it_o be_v that_o reign_v the_o frequent_a and_o fervent_a exhortation_n unto_o good_a work_n and_o fruitfulness_n in_o well-doing_n give_v by_o the_o lord_n christ_n himself_o and_o by_o his_o apostle_n unto_o believer_n sufficient_o prove_v that_o the_o faith_n of_o man_n do_v not_o necessary_o or_o always_o give_v out_o its_o strength_n in_o good_a work_n for_o what_o need_n he_o to_o press_v and_o importune_v man_n to_o such_o thing_n which_o they_o can_v refrain_v or_o forbear_v whether_o they_o be_v persuade_v or_o press_v unto_o they_o or_o no_o yea_o persuasion_n and_o exhortation_n be_v most_o proper_a if_o not_o only_o proper_a where_o there_o be_v some_o degree_n at_o least_o of_o a_o backwardness_n or_o indisposition_n unto_o the_o thing_n exhort_v or_o persuade_v unto_o in_o those_o who_o be_v persuade_v and_o exhort_v unto_o they_o when_o the_o apostle_n paul_n write_v thus_o to_o titus_n tit._n 3.14_o and_o let_v we_o also_o learn_v to_o maintain_v good_a work_n for_o
duty_n and_o more_o especial_o the_o duty_n of_o every_o believer_n to_o desire_v and_o seek_v after_o part_n and_o fellowship_n in_o the_o high_a consolation_n which_o the_o gospel_n administer_v and_o which_o be_v attainable_a by_o man_n thereby_o because_o without_o be_v baptize_v with_o such_o a_o baptism_n as_o this_o man_n will_v not_o be_v in_o that_o singular_a and_o signal_n capacity_n to_o show_v forth_o the_o virtue_n or_o pleasant_a and_o lovely_a thing_n of_o god_n which_o they_o ought_v to_o lift_v up_o their_o heart_n and_o desire_n unto_o that_o which_o as_o we_o say_v be_v assert_v plain_o in_o the_o reason_n sect._n 8_o be_v that_o without_o be_v fill_v with_o the_o spirit_n man_n and_o woman_n will_v never_o be_v able_a to_o reach_v the_o consolation_n of_o the_o gospel_n where_o they_o run_v high_a and_o carry_v in_o they_o a_o strong_a savour_n of_o life_n and_o immortality_n now_o for_o the_o open_n and_o clear_v of_o this_o unto_o you_o you_o be_v to_o take_v knowledge_n and_o consider_v that_o man_n and_o woman_n may_v so_o go_v to_o work_v may_v stand_v upon_o such_o term_n before_o god_n and_o the_o gospel_n for_o many_o year_n together_o that_o according_a to_o the_o ordinary_a and_o settle_a course_n of_o divine_a providence_n in_o the_o world_n and_o the_o exigency_n of_o second_o cause_n they_o will_v not_o be_v like_o i_o mean_v whilst_o they_o continue_v in_o such_o a_o way_n to_o know_v what_o the_o consolation_n of_o the_o gospel_n in_o those_o vein_n of_o it_o in_o which_o they_o be_v most_o sovereign_a rich_a and_o glorious_a mean_v yea_o the_o truth_n be_v consider_v the_o present_a experiment_n which_o person_n of_o both_o sex_n general_o give_v of_o themselves_o in_o the_o world_n there_o be_v scarce_o one_o of_o a_o city_n or_o two_o of_o a_o tribe_n who_o heart_n do_v in_o any_o measure_n serve_v they_o to_o live_v up_o to_o such_o term_n which_o be_v like_a to_o render_v they_o capable_a of_o eat_v the_o fat_a and_o drink_v the_o sweet_a of_o the_o gospel_n for_o first_o man_n that_o savour_v as_o the_o scripture_n speak_v the_o thing_n which_o be_v of_o man_n and_o love_v this_o present_a world_n be_v not_o in_o any_o likely_a capacity_n but_o only_o upon_o the_o change_n of_o the_o frame_n of_o their_o mind_n and_o of_o their_o course_n of_o life_n ever_o to_o know_v what_o be_v the_o hope_n of_o their_o call_v as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v either_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o ground_n of_o it_o what_o pregnant_a lively_a and_o abundant_o satisfactory_a argument_n and_o ground_n there_o be_v why_o they_o shall_v hope_v for_o and_o expect_v all_o the_o great_a thing_n which_o the_o gospel_n promise_v or_o else_o what_o be_v his_o hope_n in_o respect_n of_o the_o object_n of_o it_o how_o glorious_a excellent_a and_o wonderful_a these_o thing_n be_v which_o be_v now_o hope_v for_o and_o will_v be_v find_v of_o all_o those_o that_o shall_v with_o faith_n and_o patience_n wait_v upon_o god_n for_o they_o man_n and_o woman_n i_o say_v that_o stick_v fast_o with_o their_o mind_n and_o heart_n in_o the_o mire_n and_o clay_n of_o this_o present_a world_n be_v never_o like_a to_o know_v what_o the_o hope_n of_o the_o gospel-calling_a be_v in_o either_o consideration_n and_o consequent_o not_o to_o inherit_v or_o enjoy_v in_o this_o world_n the_o riches_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o gospel_n consolation_n the_o reason_n hereof_o be_v many_o we_o shall_v hint_n only_o two_o first_o because_o when_o the_o intellectual_a power_n and_o faculty_n of_o the_o soul_n be_v drink_v up_o reason_n whereof_o they_o know_v not_o how_o to_o quit_v or_o behave_v themselves_o about_o more_o noble_a and_o high-born_a object_n nor_o indeed_o care_v not_o much_o to_o have_v to_o do_v with_o they_o or_o come_v into_o their_o company_n even_o as_o person_n that_o have_v be_v always_o breed_v and_o bring_v up_o inter_fw-la sordes_fw-la among_o rude_a and_o rustical_a people_n of_o course_n may_v the_o company_n of_o such_o person_n in_o like_a manner_n those_o divine_a discovery_n make_v in_o the_o gospel_n those_o vein_n of_o wisdom_n and_o of_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n there_o upon_o which_o i_o mean_v upon_o the_o apprehension_n of_o which_o the_o high_a raising_n and_o lifting_n up_o in_o evangelical_n consolation_n of_o which_o we_o speak_v chief_o depend_v be_v of_o a_o very_a fine_a spin_v very_o spiritual_a and_o remote_a from_o the_o common_a thought_n and_o apprehension_n of_o man_n and_o much_o more_o from_o the_o thought_n of_o such_o mind_n and_o understanding_n which_o have_v accustom_v themselves_o whole_o in_o a_o manner_n to_o this_o world_n affair_n person_n of_o this_o character_n know_v that_o these_o thing_n lie_v out_o of_o the_o way_n of_o their_o genius_n and_o that_o they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o conceive_v of_o they_o with_o much_o contentment_n to_o themselves_o nor_o to_o speak_v of_o they_o with_o contentment_n unto_o other_o in_o these_o respect_n take_v little_a or_o no_o pleasure_n to_o inquire_v after_o they_o nor_o to_o engage_v themselves_o to_o any_o purpose_n in_o the_o study_n of_o they_o so_o then_o this_o be_v one_o reason_n why_o such_o person_n who_o be_v over-intent_n and_o bent_n upon_o this_o present_a world_n be_v not_o like_a to_o ascend_v in_o spirit_n into_o the_o region_n of_o light_n where_o the_o consolation_n we_o speak_v of_o have_v their_o dwell_n and_o be_v to_o be_v find_v viz._n because_o by_o continual_a dig_v in_o the_o earth_n with_o their_o reason_n apprehension_n and_o understanding_n they_o make_v they_o blunt_a and_o dull_a and_o altogether_o unapt_a to_o take_v the_o genuine_a and_o through_o impression_n of_o such_o gospel-notion_n wherein_o the_o riches_n of_o to_o be_v baptize_v then_o be_v he_o true_o god_n but_o such_o a_o person_n he_o be_v etc._n etc._n this_o latter_a proposition_n be_v unquestionable_a from_o the_o word_n of_o the_o scripture_n before_o we_o for_o doubtless_o the_o lord_n christ_n will_v not_o have_v command_v his_o apostle_n to_o baptize_v in_o his_o name_n be_v he_o not_o a_o person_n meet_v in_o who_o namebaptism_n shall_v be_v administer_v the_o other_o proposition_n can_v reasonable_o be_v deny_v neither_o because_o he_o in_o who_o name_n it_o be_v any_o way_n meet_v for_o a_o person_n to_o be_v baptize_v for_o the_o remission_n of_o sin_n upon_o repentance_n must_v in_o reason_n be_v in_o a_o full_a capacity_n to_o give_v such_o a_o remission_n and_o this_o not_o ministerial_o or_o declarative_o only_a for_o then_o paul_n may_v lawful_o have_v baptize_v in_o his_o own_o name_n yea_o every_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n may_v baptize_v in_o their_o own_o name_n for_o in_o this_o sense_n they_o be_v say_v to_o remit_v or_o forgive_v sin_n joh._n 20.23_o mat._n 18.18_o but_o original_o and_o authoritative_o for_o questionless_a it_o be_v the_o appropriate_a privilege_n or_o or_o equity_n in_o it_o that_o one_o man_n shall_v have_v power_n to_o forgive_v another_o man_n debt_n especial_o that_o the_o inferior_a shall_v have_v power_n to_o remit_v that_o which_o be_v due_a to_o the_o superior_a so_o be_v there_o much_o less_o reason_n to_o conceive_v that_o any_o mere_a creature_n whatsoever_o have_v power_n to_o forgive_v another_o creature_n what_o it_o owe_v unto_o the_o two_o doctrine_n by_o another_o principle_n and_o ground_n also_o which_o upon_o such_o a_o argument_n as_o this_o may_v be_v frame_v that_o doctrine_n which_o render_v the_o encouragement_n countenance_n or_o reward_v promise_v by_o god_n unto_o those_o that_o shall_v live_v godly_a great_a and_o more_o desirable_a be_v a_o doctrine_n of_o a_o more_o forceable_a and_o effectual_a tendency_n towards_o the_o promotion_n of_o godliness_n than_o that_o which_o make_v all_o these_o less_o and_o less_o desirable_a this_o proposition_n i_o suppose_v need_v no_o further_a proof_n or_o clear_v be_v build_v upon_o this_o unquestionable_a principle_n that_o a_o great_a reward_n promise_v upon_o the_o same_o or_o like_a term_n of_o security_n be_v a_o great_a encouragement_n a_o more_o effectual_a motive_n unto_o action_n or_o work_n than_o a_o lesser_a therefore_o i_o go_v on_o and_o assume_v thus_o but_o that_o doctrine_n which_o affirm_v the_o holy_a ghost_n to_o be_v god_n be_v this_o that_o doctrine_n which_o render_v the_o threaten_n against_o ungodliness_n light_a less_o considerable_a or_o more_o easy_a to_o be_v bear_v be_v not_o a_o doctrine_n so_o effectual_a conscience_n make_v no_o breach_n upon_o their_o peace_n whereas_o if_o these_o law_n be_v but_o translate_v into_o practice_n by_o flesh_n and_o blood_n by_o man_n and_o woman_n subject_a to_o like_a passion_n and_o infirmity_n with_o themselves_o this_o will_v beget_v other_o manner_n of_o thought_n in_o the_o heart_n and_o conscience_n of_o the_o world_n general_o concern_v they_o do_v man_n but_o serious_o consider_v it_o with_o themselves_o that_o if_o flesh_n and_o blood_n man_n of_o the_o same_o nature_n liable_a to_o the_o same_o tentation_n with_o themselves_o by_o the_o same_o mean_n and_o assistance_n both_o inward_a and_o outward_a which_o be_v afford_v unto_o they_o can_v keep_v the_o commandment_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o walk_v holy_o they_o can_v not_o light_o but_o be_v convince_v that_o certain_o the_o god_n of_o heaven_n will_v look_v for_o it_o at_o their_o hand_n that_o they_o go_v and_o do_v likewise_o again_o second_o sect._n 6_o he_o that_o shall_v to_o have_v no_o mind_n to_o meddle_v with_o he_o but_o cause_v he_o to_o fear_v to_o rise_v up_o in_o opposition_n against_o he_o by_o mean_n whereof_o be_v enjoy_v himself_o with_o little_a or_o no_o trouble_n or_o disturbance_n such_o be_v the_o consolation_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o be_v according_o find_v by_o man_n when_o it_o be_v receive_v in_o the_o power_n and_o glory_n of_o it_o it_o be_v not_o only_o able_a to_o suppress_v and_o keep_v under_o fear_n and_o doubt_n and_o sad_a apprehension_n in_o every_o kind_n which_o be_v enemey_n to_o it_o but_o to_o enjoy_v itself_o in_o fullness_n of_o peace_n and_o security_n without_o any_o danger_n of_o be_v infest_a or_o annoy_v by_o they_o this_o be_v the_o height_n of_o the_o consolation_n of_o the_o gospel_n he_o that_o be_v baptize_v into_o the_o spirit_n of_o it_o enjoy_v himself_o with_o a_o divine_a security_n in_o the_o frailty_n of_o a_o weak_a and_o mortal_a man_n to_o this_o we_o may_v add_v that_o of_o peter_n 1_o pet._n 1.8_o who_o have_v not_o see_v you_o love_v in_o who_o though_o now_o you_o see_v he_o not_o yet_o believe_v you_o rejoice_v with_o joy_n unspeakable_a and_o full_a of_o glory_n now_o in_o enlighten_v do_v by_o natural_a and_o clear_a consentience_n evince_v he_o to_o be_v god_n we_o be_v not_o to_o appoint_v or_o teach_v the_o holy_a ghost_n how_o or_o after_o what_o manner_n or_o with_o what_o word_n or_o phrase_n he_o shall_v express_v the_o thing_n of_o god_n thing_n of_o a_o spiritual_a nature_n but_o we_o be_v to_o be_v content_a with_o such_o expression_n and_o viz._n as_o if_o he_o need_v any_o thing_n meaning_n for_o he_o better_n of_o his_o own_o condition_n or_o complete_n of_o his_o happiness_n and_o unless_o our_o adversary_n can_v prove_v that_o the_o holy_a ghost_n receive_v what_o be_v christ_n for_o his_o own_o necessity_n and_o supply_n the_o simple_a receive_n of_o it_o do_v no_o way_n encumber_v the_o plea_n of_o his_o godhead_n 2._o when_o
