deny_v the_o power_n thereof_o which_o latter_a ordinary_o and_o natural_o accompany_v the_o former_a for_o as_o the_o shadow_n be_v long_a when_o the_o sun_n be_v low_a and_o as_o vine_n and_o other_o fruit-tree_n bear_v the_o less_o fruit_n when_o they_o be_v suffer_v to_o luxuriate_v and_o spend_v their_o sap_n upon_o superfluous_a sucker_n and_o abundance_n of_o leaf_n so_o common_o we_o may_v observe_v both_o in_o civil_a conversation_n where_o there_o be_v great_a store_n of_o formality_n there_o be_v little_a sincerity_n and_o in_o religion_n where_o there_o be_v a_o decay_n of_o true_a and_o cordial_a piety_n there_o man_n entertain_v and_o please_v themselves_o and_o vain_o hope_v to_o please_v god_n with_o external_a formality_n and_o performance_n and_o great_a store_n of_o that_o righteousness_n for_o which_o christ_n shall_v judge_v the_o world_n it_o be_v no_o difficult_a matter_n to_o show_v that_o the_o truth_n of_o st._n paul_n prediction_n be_v by_o experience_n justify_v in_o both_o part_n of_o it_o but_o my_o purpose_n be_v to_o restrain_v myself_o to_o the_o latter_a and_o to_o endeavour_v to_o clear_v unto_o you_o that_o that_o in_o our_o time_n be_v general_o accomplish_v that_o almost_o in_o all_o place_n the_o power_n of_o godliness_n be_v decay_v and_o vanish_v the_o form_n and_o profession_n of_o it_o only_o remain_v that_o the_o spirit_n and_o soul_n and_o life_n of_o religion_n be_v for_o the_o most_o part_n go_v only_o the_o outward_a body_n or_o carcase_n or_o rather_o the_o picture_n or_o shadow_n of_o it_o be_v leave_v behind_o this_o be_v the_o doctrine_n which_o at_o this_o time_n i_o shall_v deliver_v to_o you_o and_o the_o use_v which_o i_o desire_v most_o hearty_o you_o shall_v make_v of_o it_o be_v this_o to_o take_v care_n that_o you_o confute_v so_o far_o as_o it_o concern_v your_o particular_n what_o i_o fear_v i_o shall_v prove_v too_o true_a in_o the_o general_a to_o come_v then_o to_o our_o business_n without_o further_a compliment_n let_v we_o examine_v our_o way_n and_o consider_v impartial_o what_o the_o religion_n of_o most_o man_n be_v we_o be_v baptize_v in_o our_o infancy_n that_o be_v as_o i_o conceive_v dedicate_v and_o devote_v to_o god_n service_n by_o our_o parent_n and_o the_o church_n as_o young_a samuel_n be_v by_o his_o mother_n anna_n and_o there_o we_o take_v a_o solemn_a vow_n to_o forsake_v the_o devil_n and_o all_o his_o work_n the_o vain_a pomp_n and_o glory_n of_o the_o world_n with_o all_o the_o covetous_a desire_n of_o it_o to_o forsake_v also_o all_o the_o carnal_a desire_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o not_o to_o follow_v nor_o be_v lead_v by_o they_o this_o vow_n we_o take_v when_o we_o be_v child_n and_o understand_v it_o not_o and_o how_o many_o be_v there_o who_o know_v and_o consider_v and_o regard_v what_o they_o have_v vow_v when_o they_o be_v become_v man_n almost_o as_o little_a as_o they_o do_v be_v child_n consider_v the_o life_n and_o public_a action_n of_o most_o man_n of_o all_o condition_n in_o court_n city_n and_o country_n and_o then_o deny_v it_o if_o you_o can_v that_o those_o three_o thing_n which_o we_o have_v renounce_v in_o our_o baptism_n the_o profit_n honour_n and_o pleasure_n of_o the_o world_n be_v not_o the_o very_a god_n which_o divide_v the_o world_n among_o they_o be_v not_o serve_v more_o devout_o confide_v in_o more_o hearty_o love_v more_o affectionate_o than_o the_o father_n son_n and_o holâ—_n ghost_n in_o who_o name_n we_o be_v baptize_v deny_v if_o you_o can_v the_o daily_a and_o and_o yet_o with_o this_o empty_a form_n we_o please_v and_o satisfy_v ourselves_o as_o well_o as_o if_o we_o be_v lively_o bear_v again_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n not_o know_v or_o not_o regard_v what_o st._n peter_n have_v teach_v we_o that_o the_o baptism_n which_o must_v save_v we_o be_v not_o the_o put_v away_o of_o the_o filth_n of_o the_o flesh_n 3.21_o 1_o pet._n 3.21_o but_o the_o answer_n of_o a_o good_a conscience_n unto_o god_n when_o we_o be_v come_v to_o year_n capable_a of_o instruction_n many_o which_o be_v lamentable_a to_o consider_v be_v so_o little_o regard_v shall_v indeed_o say_v where_o be_v those_o my_o enemy_n which_o will_v not_o have_v i_o to_o reign_v over_o they_o bring_v they_o hither_o and_o slay_v they_o before_o i_o 40._o but_o the_o most_o eminent_a and_o notorious_a exercise_n of_o christ_n dominion_n be_v see_v in_o the_o rule_n over_o his_o church_n which_o he_o purchase_v with_o his_o own_o blood_n now_o the_o first_o business_n influence_n they_o may_v be_v furnish_v with_o ability_n to_o go_v through_o with_o that_o great_a employment_n of_o reconcile_a the_o world_n unto_o god_n by_o subdue_a man_n understanding_n to_o alas_o though_o we_o shall_v turn_v never_o so_o holy_a never_o so_o virtuous_a and_o reform_a what_o satisfaction_n or_o recompense_n can_v we_o make_v for_o our_o former_a sin_n and_o iniquity_n god_n know_v it_o must_v cost_v more_o to_o redeem_v a_o soul_n therefore_o we_o must_v let_v that_o alone_a for_o ever_o we_o must_v take_v heed_n of_o ever_o meddle_v in_o that_o office_n we_o between_o these_o two_o we_o receive_v the_o book_n of_o the_o new_a testament_n as_o they_o be_v common_o receive_v and_o we_o receive_v those_o that_o be_v common_o receive_v because_o they_o be_v so_o to_o say_v this_o be_v indeed_o to_o make_v be_v common_o receive_v a_o rule_n or_o reason_n to_o know_v the_o canon_n by_o but_o to_o say_v the_o former_a do_v no_o more_o make_v it_o a_o rule_n than_o you_o shall_v make_v the_o church_n of_o england_n the_o rule_n of_o your_o receive_v they_o if_o you_o shall_v say_v as_o you_o may_v the_o book_n of_o the_o new_a testament_n we_o receive_v for_o canonical_a as_o they_o be_v receive_v by_o the_o church_n of_o england_n 45._o you_o demand_v upon_o what_o infallible_a ground_n we_o agree_v with_o luther_n against_o you_o in_o some_o and_o
