yet_o they_o belong_v to_o the_o covenant_n but_o be_v stranger_n to_o the_o covenant_n of_o promise_n and_o alien_n to_o the_o church_n of_o god_n eph._n 2.12_o how_o i_o say_v be_v these_o 12.46_o but_o that_o he_o enlighten_v every_o man_n that_o come_v into_o the_o world_n with_o a_o light_n sufficient_a to_o salvation_n be_v neither_o say_v in_o this_o text_n of_o john_n nor_o any_o where_o else_o of_o scripture_n but_o be_v on_o the_o contrary_a therein_o strong_o contradict_v some_o few_o testimony_n whereof_o i_o have_v produce_v that_o which_o the_o quaker_n add_v here_o viz._n that_o he_o enlighten_v every_o man_n that_o come_v into_o the_o world_n that_o all_o man_n through_o he_o may_v believe_v be_v not_o so_o write_v in_o the_o text_n but_o only_o in_o the_o and_o that_o when_o it_o be_v corrupt_v and_o darken_v without_o the_o supernatural_a light_n of_o grace_n or_o so_o much_o as_o one_o gospel-promise_n which_o the_o gentile_n know_v not_o be_v sufficient_a to_o salvation_n which_o who_o say_v be_v a_o deep-dyed_n atheist_n they_o sometime_o have_v say_v to_o i_o that_o the_o gentile_n be_v sufficient_o enlighten_v even_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n when_o it_o be_v manifest_v to_o adam_n or_o any_o other_o of_o their_o forefather_n ans_fw-fr we_o be_v once_o sufficient_o enlighten_v in_o adam_n in_o order_n to_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n but_o we_o be_v not_o still_o so_o now_o our_o understanding_n be_v darken_v by_o the_o fall_n but_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n adam_n be_v never_o our_o head_n and_o undertaker_n and_o so_o his_o enlighten_v be_v nothing_o to_o we_o second_o will_v their_o forefather_n enlighten_v at_o a_o great_a distance_n of_o time_n wear_v out_o and_o extinct_a prove_v that_o the_o gentile_n have_v still_o a_o sufficient_a light_n nay_o then_o let_v they_o prove_v for_o it_o be_v as_o easy_a that_o a_o blind_a man_n see_v sufficient_o to_o read_v because_o his_o father_n who_o have_v eye_n see_v to_o do_v it_o or_o that_o all_o man_n be_v sufficient_o innocent_a and_o able_a to_o do_v their_o duty_n perfect_o because_o adam_n be_v once_o so_o and_o then_o we_o shall_v need_v no_o saviour_n but_o say_v the_o quaker_n be_v not_o the_o light_n then_o save_v which_o he_o believe_v ans_fw-fr christ_n jesus_n who_o be_v mean_v in_o the_o for_o that_o which_o be_v before_o clean_o needs_o no_o more_o cleanse_v five_o they_o object_n that_o the_o apostle_n say_v 1_o cor._n 7.28_o that_o though_o a_o woman_n marry_o she_o have_v not_o gradual_a defect_n but_o he_o command_v they_o as_o they_o be_v good_a in_o respect_n of_o their_o nature_n and_o kind_n so_o the_o objection_n perish_v seven_o they_o endeavour_v to_o prove_v that_o christian_n have_v at_o least_o some_o perfect_a action_n in_o this_o life_n and_o for_o that_o purpose_n they_o inquire_v of_o we_o if_o the_o apostle_n sin_v in_o write_v the_o scripture_n ans_fw-fr first_o this_o will_v not_o prove_v the_o perfection_n of_o any_o action_n of_o any_o man_n now_o live_v except_o they_o can_v first_o prove_v he_o to_o have_v as_o large_a a_o measure_n of_o grace_n psal_n 51_o 10._o and_o 73_o 22._o or_o else_o beside_o the_o instance_n give_v what_o will_v they_o say_v of_o a_o hypocrite_n write_v over_o in_o whole_a or_o in_o part_n the_o whole_a scripture_n and_o of_o every_o action_n of_o printing_n while_o our_o printer_n print_v they_o over_o but_o three_o for_o full_a satisfaction_n i_o answer_v that_o in_o that_o action_n the_o apostle_n do_v not_o at_o all_o sin_n upon_o the_o matter_n which_o yet_o be_v the_o most_o formal_a sense_n of_o the_o objection_n which_o thus_o propose_v direct_o import_v the_o matter_n see_v the_o matter_n of_o the_o action_n do_v perfect_o agree_v with_o the_o law_n of_o god_n as_o also_o the_o action_n of_o a_o unrenewed_a man_n may_v do_v second_o there_o be_v much_o good_a in_o it_o compare_v with_o all_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o cause_n and_o so_o it_o be_v sincere_a and_o of_o another_o nature_n and_o kind_n than_o any_o action_n of_o a_o unrenewed_a man_n be_v or_o can_v be_v see_v the_o principle_n thereof_o love_n to_o god_n and_o man_n the_o end_n thereof_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o good_a of_o soul_n the_o form_n and_o manner_n wherein_o it_o be_v do_v in_o obedience_n to_o god_n be_v all_o certain_o good_a yet_o consider_v it_o as_o a_o moral_a action_n liable_a to_o god_n law_n it_o be_v sure_o for_o the_o reason_n give_v defective_a and_o imperfect_a as_o to_o the_o exact_a and_o complete_a degree_n of_o love_n to_o god_n and_o man_n and_o respect_n to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o good_a of_o soul_n and_o act_v in_o it_o in_o pure_a obedience_n to_o god_n command_n wherewith_o every_o perfect_a action_n be_v to_o be_v qualify_v they_o will_v may_v be_v say_v that_o then_o the_o scripture_n will_v be_v in_o danger_n to_o contract_v some_o impurity_n from_o the_o impurity_n of_o the_o agent_n and_o action_n of_o writing_n ans_fw-fr that_o be_v false_a as_o appear_v from_o our_o instance_n of_o a_o hypocrite_n and_o printer_n and_o of_o david_n and_o asaph_n when_o they_o be_v not_o pure_a or_o perfect_a and_o if_o the_o doctrine_n write_v do_v necessary_o contract_v any_o impurity_n from_o the_o impurity_n of_o the_o writer_n by_o the_o same_o reason_n and_o with_o more_o reason_n see_v the_o tongue_n be_v a_o more_o immediate_a instrument_n of_o the_o heart_n then_o the_o hand_n the_o doctrine_n preach_v shall_v contract_v some_o impurity_n from_o the_o impurity_n of_o the_o preacher_n which_o be_v manifest_o false_a to_o the_o world_n eye_n christ_n be_v the_o external_a object_n of_o the_o persecutive_a action_n of_o the_o jew_n yet_o he_o otherwise_o it_o will_v be_v nothing_o to_o their_o purpose_n of_o a_o sinless_a perfection_n which_o they_o plead_v we_o must_v deny_v because_o of_o these_o and_o many_o other_o scripture_n prov._n 20_o 9_o eccles_n 7_o 20._o galat._n 5_o 17._o rom._n 7_o 21._o or_o else_o that_o reply_n must_v be_v understand_v of_o one_o and_o the_o same_o action_n and_o so_o the_o sense_n be_v though_o we_o perfect_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o perfection_n of_o degree_n see_v so_o it_o will_v both_o want_n and_o yet_o not_o want_v some_o degree_n of_o goodness_n which_o it_o ought_v to_o have_v for_o these_o reason_n i_o just_o deny_v the_o latter_a part_n of_o their_o proposition_n sixteenth_o query_n can_v any_o man_n be_v save_v by_o his_o own_o work_n self-righteousness_n will_v worship_v and_o be_v not_o all_o man_n in_o self-righteousness_n that_o be_v not_o in_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n jesus_n and_o
