be_v the_o world_n what_o wretched_a people_n be_v the_o corinthian_n before_o they_o believe_v and_o the_o ephesian_n and_o the_o rest_n let_v no_o man_n therefore_o despair_n savage_n nor_o as_o i_o religion_n of_o blood_n but_o here_o as_o i_o say_v meanness_n overcome_v greatness_n ignorance_n overcome_v learning_n simplicity_n overcome_v pride_n baseness_n overcome_v glory_n a_o mystery_n in_o this_o respect_n teach_v again_o if_o we_o consider_v the_o truth_n that_o they_o teach_v be_v contrary_a to_o the_o nature_n of_o man_n contrary_a to_o his_o affection_n to_o enforce_v self-denial_n to_o man_n that_o natural_o be_v full_a of_o self-love_n that_o make_v a_o idol_n of_o their_o wit_n and_o will_v for_o they_o to_o come_v to_o be_v teach_v to_o be_v fool_n in_o respect_n of_o wit_n and_o to_o resign_v up_o their_o will_n to_o the_o will_n of_o another_o for_o these_o man_n to_o believe_v thing_n that_o be_v above_o belief_n to_o carnal_a man_n as_o st._n austin_n observe_v aug._n it_o be_v the_o wonder_n of_o the_o world_n what_o a_o kind_n of_o doctrine_n be_v this_o to_o win_v such_o entertainment_n in_o the_o world_n as_o it_o do_v yet_o it_o do_v make_v man_n deny_v nature_n of_o man_n for_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n where_o faith_n be_v wrought_v to_o go_v out_o of_o itself_o and_o to_o embrace_v a_o beginning_n and_o principle_n and_o rise_v of_o life_n from_o another_o to_o seek_v justification_n and_o salvation_n by_o the_o righteousness_n and_o obedience_n of_o another_o for_o the_o proud_a heart_n of_o man_n to_o stoop_v to_o this_o to_o acknowledge_v no_o righteousness_n of_o its_o own_o to_o stand_v before_o the_o tribunal_n of_o god_n but_o to_o have_v all_o derive_v from_o jesus_n christ_n to_o fetch_v forgiveness_n of_o sin_n out_o of_o the_o death_n of_o another_o to_o wrap_v itself_o in_o the_o righteousness_n and_o obedience_n of_o christ_n give_v of_o god_n for_o it_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n without_o a_o supernatural_a work_n of_o the_o spirit_n to_o subdue_v it_o will_v never_o yield_v to_o this_o because_o proud_a flesh_n and_o blood_n will_v always_o have_v somewhat_o in_o itself_o to_o dote_v upon_o and_o to_o set_v it_o excellent_a deep_a work_n on_o the_o soul_n this_o be_v the_o great_a mystery_n the_o great_a difficulty_n be_v in_o this_o branch_n consider_v how_o contrary_a to_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n faith_n be_v let_v we_o take_v heed_n of_o shallow_a conceit_n of_o faith_n faith_n as_o if_o it_o be_v a_o easy_a common_a universal_a grace_n to_o believe_v no_o belove_v it_o be_v a_o supernatural_a powerful_a work_n saint_n paul_n set_v it_o out_o divine_o 1.18_o and_o large_o in_o ephes._n 1.18_o he_o call_v it_o the_o mighty_a power_n of_o god_n it_o require_v not_o only_o a_o power_n but_o a_o almighty_a power_n to_o raise_v the_o heart_n of_o man_n to_o believe_v for_o even_o as_o the_o work_n of_o redemption_n creation_n by_o christ_n be_v a_o great_a work_n in_o itself_o than_o the_o work_n of_o creation_n power_n so_o also_o the_o work_n of_o conversion_n though_o they_o be_v all_o one_o to_o a_o infinite_a power_n yet_o the_o thing_n itself_o be_v more_o difficult_a to_o make_v the_o heart_n of_o man_n to_o believe_v then_o to_o make_v a_o world_n of_o nothing_o for_o when_o god_n make_v the_o world_n there_o be_v nothing_o to_o oppose_v there_o he_o have_v to_o do_v with_o simple_a nothing_o but_o when_o god_n come_v to_o make_v the_o heart_n believe_v he_o find_v opposition_n and_o rebellion_n he_o find_v man_n against_o himself_o he_o find_v the_o heart_n and_o conscience_n against_o itself_o he_o find_v opposition_n from_o satan_n that_o help_v man_n distrustful_a heart_n then_o all_o meet_v together_o affliction_n the_o sense_n of_o god_n anger_n and_o man_n guilty_a conscience_n now_o to_o make_v such_o a_o man_n believe_v be_v more_o than_o to_o create_v a_o world_n mercy_n and_o as_o god_n show_v more_o power_n so_o he_o show_v more_o mercy_n in_o the_o work_n of_o redemption_n then_o in_o the_o creation_n in_o the_o creation_n there_o he_o do_v good_a to_o a_o good_a man_n adam_n be_v create_v good_a and_o he_o shall_v have_v he_o stand_v have_v continue_v in_o a_o good_a condition_n but_o in_o the_o work_n of_o redemption_n god_n do_v good_a to_o evil_a man_n god_n transcend_v in_o his_o love_n because_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o mercy_n reign_v in_o the_o work_n of_o redemption_n so_o that_o the_o power_n and_o wisdom_n and_o mercy_n be_v great_a in_o the_o work_n of_o redemption_n it_o require_v a_o more_o supernatural_a power_n in_o the_o soul_n to_o apprehend_v this_o
than_o any_o other_o truth_n as_o the_o work_n in_o redemption_n be_v more_o glorious_a so_o the_o divine_a grace_n and_o virtue_n in_o the_o soul_n that_o make_v use_v of_o this_o which_o be_v faith_n it_o must_v be_v more_o excellent_a than_o all_o other_o grace_n whatsoever_o and_o as_o it_o must_v be_v god_n that_o must_v save_v and_o redeem_v we_o so_o it_o must_v be_v god_n that_o must_v peswade_v the_o heart_n of_o this_o as_o christ_n who_o be_v god_n must_v perform_v the_o work_n of_o redemption_n so_o it_o must_v be_v god_n the_o holy-ghost_n that_o must_v persuade_v the_o heart_n that_o god_n love_v it_o so_o much_o and_o raise_v the_o heart_n to_o apprehend_v it_o and_o make_v use_n of_o it_o no_o less_o power_n will_v do_v it_o let_v we_o i_o say_v have_v great_a conceit_n of_o this_o excellent_a grace_n of_o faith_n all_o man_n have_v not_o faith_n it_o be_v a_o rare_a grace_n a_o rare_a jewel_n when_o christ_n come_v shall_v he_o find_v faith_n in_o the_o what_o do_v he_o talk_v of_o peace_n with_o god_n when_o he_o be_v in_o league_n with_o god_n enemy_n therefore_o though_o such_o man_n out_o of_o the_o hardness_n of_o their_o heart_n which_o be_v hard_a than_o the_o nether_a millstone_n and_o god_n seal_v they_o up_o under_o a_o hard_a heart_n to_o damnation_n except_o some_o terrible_a judgement_n awake_v they_o force_v a_o peace_n upon_o false_a peace_n peace_n the_o great_a danger_n in_o the_o world_n in_o this_o regard_n be_v in_o the_o church_n for_o people_n under_o the_o gospel_n speak_v false_a peace_n to_o themselves_o there_o be_v a_o spirit_n of_o delusion_n that_o carry_v they_o along_o to_o their_o death_n and_o deceive_v they_o also_o in_o death_n and_o so_o they_o be_v in_o hell_n before_o they_o be_v aware_a and_o then_o too_o late_o they_o see_v that_o they_o be_v never_o in_o good_a term_n with_o god_n in_o all_o their_o life_n because_o they_o look_v on_o christ_n make_v peace_n without_o any_o consideration_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o application_n application_n there_o must_v be_v a_o sprinkle_n of_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n on_o our_o soul_n to_o make_v it_o our_o own_o we_o be_v come_v
