when_o we_o do_v what_o be_v command_v we_o and_o because_o it_o be_v command_v we_o and_o what_o we_o be_v not_o influence_v unto_o by_o the_o authority_n of_o god_n in_o his_o command_n we_o be_v not_o principled_a for_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n administer_v in_o the_o promise_n whatever_o good_a any_o man_n do_v in_o any_o kind_a if_o the_o reason_n why_o he_o do_v it_o be_v not_o god_n command_n it_o belong_v neither_o to_o holiness_n nor_o obedience_n our_o enquiry_n therefore_o be_v after_o those_o thing_n in_o the_o command_v of_o god_n which_o put_v such_o a_o indispensible_a obligation_n upon_o we_o unto_o holiness_n as_o that_o whatever_o we_o may_v be_v or_o we_o may_v have_v without_o it_o will_v be_v of_o no_o use_n or_o advantage_n unto_o we_o as_o unto_o eternal_a blessedness_n or_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o he_o sect._n 3_o but_o to_o make_v our_o way_n more_o clear_a and_o safe_a one_o thing_n must_v yet_o be_v premise_v unto_o these_o consideration_n and_o this_o be_v that_o god_n command_v for_o holiness_n may_v be_v consider_v two_o way_n 1_o as_o they_o belong_v unto_o and_o be_v part_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n 2_o as_o they_o belong_v and_o be_v inseparable_o annex_v unto_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n in_o both_o respect_v they_o be_v material_o and_o formal_o the_o same_o that_o be_v the_o same_o thing_n be_v require_v in_o they_o and_o the_o same_o person_n require_v they_o and_o so_o their_o obligation_n be_v joint_a and_o equal_a not_o only_o the_o command_n of_o the_o new_a covenant_n do_v oblige_v we_o unto_o holiness_n but_o those_o of_o the_o old_a also_o as_o to_o the_o matter_n and_o substance_n of_o they_o but_o there_o be_v a_o great_a difference_n in_o the_o manner_n and_o end_n of_o these_o command_n as_o consider_v so_o distinct_o for_o 1_o the_o command_n of_o god_n as_o under_o the_o old_a covenant_n do_v so_o require_v universal_a holiness_n of_o we_o in_o all_o act_n duty_n and_o degree_n of_o they_o that_o upon_o the_o least_o failure_n in_o substance_n circumstance_n or_o degree_n they_o allow_v of_o nothing_o else_o we_o do_v but_o determine_v we_o trangressor_n of_o the_o whole_a law_n for_o with_o respect_n unto_o they_o whosoever_o shall_v keep_v the_o whole_a law_n and_o yet_o offend_v in_o one_o point_n be_v guilty_a of_o all_o james_z 2._o 10._o now_o i_o acknowledge_v that_o although_o there_o arise_v from_o hence_o a_o obligation_n unto_o holiness_n to_o they_o who_o be_v under_o that_o covenant_n and_o such_o a_o necessity_n of_o it_o as_o that_o without_o it_o they_o must_v certain_o perish_v yet_o no_o argument_n of_o the_o nature_n with_o those_o which_o i_o insist_v upon_o can_v hence_o be_v take_v to_o press_v we_o unto_o it_o for_o no_o argument_n be_v forceable_a unto_o this_o purpose_n but_o such_o as_o include_v encouragement_n in_o they_o unto_o what_o they_o urge_v but_o that_o this_o consideration_n of_o the_o command_n know_v nothing_o of_o see_v a_o compliance_n with_o it_o be_v in_o our_o lapse_v condition_n absolute_o impossible_a and_o for_o the_o thing_n that_o be_v so_o we_o can_v have_v no_o endeavour_n and_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o no_o man_n influence_v only_o by_o the_o command_v of_o the_o law_n or_o first_o covenant_n absolute_o consider_v whatever_o in_o particular_a he_o may_v be_v force_v or_o compel_v unto_o do_v ever_o sincere_o aim_v or_o endeavour_v after_o universal_a holiness_n sect._n 4_o man_n may_v be_v subdue_v by_o the_o power_n of_o the_o law_n and_o compel_v to_o habituate_v themselves_o unto_o a_o strict_a course_n of_o duty_n and_o be_v advantage_v therein_o by_o a_o sedate_n natural_a constitution_n desire_v
