i_o give_v you_o of_o it_o be_v this_o that_o scripture_n do_v every_o where_o when_o it_o speak_v precise_o and_o clear_o to_o the_o point_n it_o do_v assure_v we_o it_o be_v the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n and_o not_o the_o faith_n that_o take_v the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n i_o desire_v to_o be_v very_o far_o from_o stir_v up_o any_o controversy_n but_o to_o draw_v out_o our_o heart_n i_o say_v into_o the_o sweetness_n of_o it_o head_n 1._o i_o begin_v now_o therefore_o to_o handle_v this_o great_a point_n and_o that_o be_v see_v we_o meet_v every_o where_n in_o scripture_n with_o these_o expression_n justify_v by_o faith_n the_o righteousness_n of_o faith_n the_o great_a question_n that_o i_o shall_v handle_v first_o shall_v be_v to_o show_v you_o how_o and_o in_o what_o sense_n faith_n justify_v and_o in_o what_o sense_n it_o can_v be_v say_v to_o justify_v for_o indeed_o this_o be_v a_o point_n very_o necessary_a to_o be_v clear_v see_v many_o be_v ready_a to_o say_v that_o faith_n be_v now_o instead_o of_o righteousness_n and_o that_o it_o justify_v as_o the_o perfect_a righteousness_n of_o the_o law_n shall_v have_v do_v
say_v faith_n indeed_o be_v of_o great_a holiness_n and_o of_o great_a operation_n but_o it_o take_v hold_v of_o christ_n only_o by_o way_n of_o receipt_n and_o dependence_n and_o so_o we_o be_v alone_o justify_v by_o it_o i_o will_v fain_o clear_v one_o particular_a more_o that_o you_o may_v be_v very_o absolute_a in_o this_o great_a point_n wherein_o the_o excellency_n of_o faith_n lie_v jesus_n christ_n give_v himself_o by_o a_o free_a and_o absolute_a will_n and_o when_o he_o give_v himself_o he_o draw_v out_o by_o himself_o such_o a_o turn_n of_o the_o soul_n back_o unto_o himself_o that_o it_o cause_v the_o soul_n by_o faith_n to_o twist_v about_o he_o he_o draw_v out_o himself_o so_o to_o it_o that_o by_o faith_n it_o return_v with_o such_o a_o twist_n of_o the_o certain_o this_o rich_a righteousness_n this_o incomparable_a rich_a pearl_n will_v fall_v out_o of_o our_o hand_n do_v but_o consider_v how_o our_o hand_n shake_v in_o all_o our_o laying_n hold_v on_o christ_n but_o indeed_o it_o be_v the_o jewel_n itself_o that_o will_v be_v we_o that_o be_v please_v to_o be_v we_o that_o be_v jesus_n christ_n be_v please_v to_o be_v we_o and_o though_o our_o hand_n shake_v in_o the_o take_n of_o he_o yet_o it_o can_v shake_v or_o palsy_n as_o i_o may_v so_o express_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n in_o give_v himself_o he_o be_v constant_a and_o invariable_a in_o that_o where_o he_o love_v a_o soul_n he_o love_v he_o to_o the_o end_n as_o it_o be_v say_v peculiar_o of_o christ_n in_o that_o of_o john_n when_o he_o be_v about_o to_o die_v be_v about_o to_o depart_v out_o of_o the_o world_n have_v love_v his_o own_o which_o be_v in_o the_o world_n he_o love_v they_o to_o the_o end_n chap._n 13._o 1._o now_o if_o you_o consider_v how_o they_o behave_v but_o have_v love_v his_o own_o which_o be_v in_o the_o world_n he_o love_v they_o unto_o the_o end_n so_o though_o our_o faith_n be_v never_o so_o weak_a never_o so_o imperfect_a yet_o he_o that_o have_v say_v i_o have_v give_v myself_o for_o they_o and_o love_v they_o he_o hold_v they_o fast_o to_o his_o own_o gift_n and_o within_o his_o own_o gift_n though_o they_o will_v ten_o thousand_o time_n as_o i_o may_v so_o express_v it_o let_v he_o go_v if_o it_o depend_v upon_o their_o faith_n now_o in_o all_o these_o thing_n i_o humble_o desire_v to_o call_v god_n to_o witness_v that_o i_o do_v not_o speak_v for_o expression-sake_n or_o to_o set_v out_o a_o thing_n with_o all_o the_o advantage_n i_o can_v but_o real_o as_o scripture_n give_v evidence_n and_o as_o i_o hope_v i_o be_o persuade_v of_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o thing_n in_o my_o own_o heart_n by_o the_o assistance_n of_o the_o divine_a spirit_n neither_o to_o manage_v a_o controversy_n or_o any_o thing_n of_o that_o but_o that_o it_o be_v the_o necessity_n of_o our_o case_n that_o it_o shall_v be_v thus_o or_o else_o we_o be_v lose_v and_o undo_v though_o never_o so_o much_o be_v attribute_v to_o faith_n because_o our_o faith_n be_v such_o a_o cripple_n such_o a_o lame_a hand_n and_o foot_n in_o take_v christ_n and_o come_v to_o he_o that_o we_o shall_v certain_o lose_v he_o if_o he_o do_v not_o resolve_v to_o make_v good_a his_o own_o gift_n of_o himself_o to_o we_o and_o then_o in_o the_o three_o place_n i_o argue_v that_o it_o can_v be_v in_o faith_n itself_o because_o than_o christ_n shall_v die_v to_o bring_v in_o something_o more_o imperfect_a than_o the_o first_o righteousness_n that_o be_v give_v to_o man_n christ_n shall_v die_v to_o bring_v in_o something_o more_o imperfect_a and_o yet_o still_o it_o shall_v be_v our_o own_o and_o we_o shall_v glory_v in_o it_o even_o as_o our_o first_o righteousness_n for_o now_o when_o god_n make_v man_n he_o make_v he_o perfect_a as_o the_o scripture_n express_v he_o make_v he_o in_o his_o own_o image_n in_o his_o own_o righteousness_n knowledge_n and_o in_o true_a holiness_n and_o there_o be_v a_o perfection_n there_o be_v no_o blemish_n as_o to_o the_o creation_n of_o god_n and_o so_o far_o as_o it_o can_v be_v in_o a_o creature_n why_o now_o god_n in_o his_o infinite_a wisdom_n in_o the_o abyss_n and_o unfathomable_a depth_n of_o his_o own_o wisdom_n and_o understanding_n he_o leave_v man_n to_o fall_v and_o all_o man_n as_o the_o apostle_n argue_v rom._n 3._o they_o have_v sin_v and_o fall_v short_a of_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o what_o be_v it_o that_o follow_v from_o this_o it_o therefore_o follow_v say_v the_o apostle_n that_o there_o can_v be_v no_o glory_v before_o god_n ver_fw-la 27._o where_o be_v boast_v then_o it_o be_v exclude_v by_o what_o law_n of_o work_n no_o but_o by_o the_o law_n of_o faith_n boast_v be_v exclude_v now_o i_o say_v if_o work_v that_o be_v shall_v justify_v we_o as_o our_o own_o faith_n why_o then_o it_o will_v be_v a_o more_o imperfect_a thing_n than_o the_o first_o righteousness_n for_o take_v faith_n as_o it_o be_v in_o we_o it_o be_v more_o imperfect_a than_o the_o first_o knowledge_n righteousness_n and_o true_a holiness_n in_o which_o god_n create_v man_n and_o yet_o it_o shall_v be_v our_o own_o and_o boast_v shall_v arise_v from_o this_o that_o we_o have_v believe_v nay_o if_o it_o be_v our_o believe_v than_o it_o be_v a_o more_o imperfect_a thing_n i_o say_v that_o be_v bring_v in_o and_o boast_v will_v not_o be_v exclude_v by_o this_o law_n of_o faith_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v very_o evident_a that_o faith_n be_v not_o the_o thing_n that_o justifve_v but_o only_o that_o which_o faith_n receive_v that_o be_v the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n in_o jesus_n christ_n be_v the_o only_a â—hing_n that_o justifi_v and_o this_o i_o desire_v shall_v be_v imprint_v upon_o our_o thought_n upon_o our_o heart_n to_o this_o great_a end_n and_o purpose_n that_o we_o may_v always_o lie_v low_a before_o god_n and_o that_o we_o may_v say_v we_o will_v boast_v in_o he_o all_o the_o day_n long_o live_v and_o die_v and_o be_v we_o but_o able_a to_o be_v cut_v off_o from_o every_o thing_n in_o ourselves_o and_o to_o lay_v fast_o hold_v upon_o god_n and_o christ_n and_o to_o have_v our_o whole_a in_o he_o our_o whole_a in_o god_n our_o whole_a in_o christ_n this_o be_v the_o true_a life_n of_o faith_n the_o true_a excellency_n of_o faith_n to_o have_v nothing_o at_o all_o in_o all_o in_o ourselves_o as_o i_o shall_v speak_v further_o to_o you_o therefore_o i_o go_v on_o to_o the_o four_o particular_a and_o that_o be_v to_o affirm_v this_o that_o it_o can_v be_v by_o faith_n as_o any_o thing_n of_o itself_o because_o the_o righteousness_n of_o the_o law_n that_o be_v give_v man_n in_o his_o creation_n be_v as_o free_v a_o gift_n as_o faith_n itself_o be_v now_o if_o any_o one_o shall_v say_v but_o herein_o be_v a_o difference_n the_o work_n of_o righteousness_n in_o the_o first_o creation_n and_o the_o habit_n of_o it_o they_o be_v our_o own_o but_o faith_n be_v a_o free_a confess_v indeed_o there_o be_v a_o becomingness_n that_o the_o creator_n shall_v make_v his_o work_n perfect_a but_o it_o be_v grace_n free_a grace_n that_o give_v to_o man_n at_o first_o his_o be_v and_o that_o give_v to_o man_n all_o the_o accomplishment_n of_o his_o be_v and_o therefore_o there_o be_v not_o so_o great_a difference_n in_o that_o but_o herein_o be_v the_o great_a difference_n length_n and_o height_n and_o to_o know_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n which_o pass_v knowledge_n o_o that_o great_a mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o particular_o that_o we_o may_v know_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n which_o pass_v knowldg_n and_o hereby_o we_o may_v come_v to_o be_v fill_v with_o all_o the_o fullness_n of_o god_n o_o who_o be_v able_a to_o bring_v this_o great_a work_n into_o our_o heart_n why_o the_o apostle_n therefore_o conclude_v now_o unto_o he_o that_o be_v able_a to_o do_v exceed_v abundant_o above_o all_o that_o we_o ask_v or_o think_v according_a to_o the_o therefore_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n we_o have_v peace_n with_o god_n through_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n from_o these_o word_n i_o have_v pitch_v upon_o that_o great_a point_n and_o doctrine_n of_o justify_v faith_n or_o of_o that_o faith_n by_o which_o we_o be_v justify_v and_o this_o faith_n it_o eye_n christ_n in_o a_o peculiar_a manner_n as_o i_o prove_v from_o john_n 17._o 7_o 8._o far_o they_o have_v know_v concern_v i_o that_o all_o thing_n whatsoever_o thou_o have_v give_v i_o be_v of_o thou_o for_o i_o have_v give_v unto_o they_o the_o word_n which_o thou_o give_v i_o and_o a_o constant_a eye_n of_o faith_n upon_o christ_n as_o i_o tell_v you_o there_o have_v never_o be_v such_o a_o notion_n of_o faith_n in_o scripture-sense_n in_o gospel_n sense_n if_o it_o have_v not_o be_v for_o christ_n if_o he_o the_o mediator_n have_v not_o be_v give_v i_o have_v speak_v of_o it_o as_o it_o be_v faith_n by_o which_o we_o be_v justify_v and_o the_o ground_n why_o it_o be_v faith_n that_o justify_v here_o mean_v which_o i_o have_v not_o mention_v before_o to_o you_o but_o rather_o depend_v upon_o other_o scripture_n for_o i_o shall_v give_v you_o now_o viz._n why_o this_o faith_n or_o believe_v be_v to_o be_v understand_v of_o the_o faith_n that_o justify_v even_o out_o of_o that_o john_n 17._o 7_o 8._o and_o the_o reason_n i_o give_v for_o it_o be_v because_o it_o be_v the_o faith_n upon_o which_o christ_n intercede_v pray_v observe_v it_o christ_n intercede_v for_o believer_n upon_o the_o faith_n that_o believer_n know_v sure_o and_o believe_v concern_v jesus_n christ_n for_o in_o the_o very_a next_o word_n you_o may_v observe_v it_o i_o pray_v for_o they_o say_v he_o i_o pray_v not_o for_o the_o world_n so_o he_o intercede_v for_o they_o they_o have_v know_v and_o believe_v that_o christ_n do_v sure_o come_v forth_o from_o god_n and_o that_o all_o thing_n of_o christ_n be_v divine_a infinite_o divine_a original_o divine_a now_o therefore_o upon_o whatsoever_o christ_n intercede_v pray_v consider_v in_o the_o very_a same_o line_n our_o foundation_n for_o righteousness_n and_o acceptance_n through_o christ_n rest_v his_o justify_v righteousness_n and_o redemption_n and_o his_o intercession_n run_v all_o upon_o one_o line_n together_o that_o be_v a_o plain_a point_n they_o go_v together_o i_o will_v give_v you_o but_o two_o place_n of_o scripture_n because_o i_o will_v not_o prevent_v myself_o in_o what_o i_o have_v especial_o to_o discourse_v of_o one_o be_v heb._n 9_o it_o be_v plain_a by_o all_o scripture_n that_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n be_v that_o great_a price_n of_o our_o redemption_n and_o that_o we_o be_v justify_v free_o by_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n god_n set_v forth_o christ_n as_o a_o propitiaton_n through_o faith_n in_o his_o blood_n now_o you_o shall_v find_v that_o christ_n enter_v by_o his_o blood_n into_o heaven_n heb._n 9_o 12._o but_o by_o his_o own_o blood_n he_o enter_v in_o once_o into_o the_o holy_a place_n have_v obtain_v eternal_a redemption_n for_o we_o christ_n intercede_v now_o in_o heaven_n and_o in_o the_o holy_a place_n into_o that_o holy_a place_n make_v without_o hand_n he_o enter_v to_o intercede_v and_o again_o ver_fw-la 24._o christ_n enter_v not_o into_o the_o holy_a place_n make_v with_o hand_n which_o be_v the_o figure_n of_o the_o true_a but_o into_o heaven_n itself_o now_o to_o appear_v in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n for_o we_o so_o that_o he_o intercede_v plain_o upon_o his_o blood_n for_o where_o he_o intercede_v he_o enter_v by_o his_o blood_n and_o in_o 1_o john_n 2._o 1._o you_o also_o have_v the_o advocateship_n and_o the_o propitiation_n of_o christ_n join_v together_o my_o little_a child_n these_o thing_n write_v i_o unto_o you_o that_o you_o sin_v not_o and_o if_o any_o man_n sin_n we_o have_v a_o advocate_n with_o the_o father_n viz._n jesus_n christ_n the_o righteous_a and_o he_o be_v the_o propitiation_n for_o upon_o the_o faith_n of_o believer_n i_o pray_v for_o they_o i_o pray_v not_o for_o the_o world_n viz._n for_o they_o who_o know_v sure_o and_o believe_v in_o i_o i_o have_v endeavour_v to_o open_a faith_n also_o to_o you_o so_o that_o you_o may_v have_v a_o right_a understanding_n that_o faith_n do_v not_o justify_v as_o it_o be_v a_o act_n of_o we_o or_o a_o grace_n in_o we_o or_o any_o thing_n in_o we_o but_o only_o by_o its_o receive_v the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n i_o come_v to_o speak_v of_o the_o assurance_n of_o faith_n they_o have_v know_v and_o they_o have_v sure_o
