of it my heart uttered understanding and wisdom grew in my breast for my spirit strengthned my memory 41 And my mouth was opened and shut no more 42 The Highest gave understanding unto the five men and they wrote the wonderful visions of the night that were told which they knew not and they sat fourty days and they wrote in the day and at night they are bread 43 As for me I spake in the day and I held not my tongue by night 44 In fourty days they wrote ‖ Or 〈◊〉 hundred and four two hundred and four books 45 And it came to pass when the fourty days were fulfilled that the Highest spake saying The first that thou hast written publish openly that the worthy and unworthy may read it 46 But keep the seventy last that thou mayest deliver them onely to such as be wise among the people 47 For in XV. 1 This prophesie is certain 5 God will take vengeance
we must prevent the sun to give thee thanks and at the day-spring pray unto thee 29 For the hope of the unthankfull shall melt away as the winters hoar-frost and shall run away as unprofitable water CHAP. XVII 1 Why the Egyptians were punished with darkness 4 The terrours of that darkness 11 The terrours of an ill conscience FOr great are thy judgements and cannot be expressed therefore ‖ Or souls that will not be reformed unnurtured souls have erred 2 For when unrighteous men thought to oppress the holy nation they being shut up ‖ Or under their roofs in their houses the prisoners of darkness and fettered with the bonds of a long night lay there ‖ Or fugitives exiled from the eternal providence 3 For while they supposed to lie hid in their secret sins they were scattered ‖ Or in undera dark vail of forgetfulness being horribly astonished and troubled with strange ‖ Or sights apparitions 4 For neither might the corner that held them keep them from fear but noises as of waters falling down sounded about them and sad visions appeared unto them with heavy countenances 5 No power of the fire might give them light neither could the bright flames of the stars endure to lighten that horrible night 6 Onely there appeared unto them a fire kindled of it self very dreadful for being much terrified they thought the things which they saw to be worse then the sight they saw not 7 * Ex. 7.12 8.7 19. As for the illusions of art magick they were put down and their vaunting in wisdom was reproved with disgrace 8 For they that promised to drive away terrours and troubles from a sick soul were sick themselves of fear worthy to be laughed at 9 For though no terrible thing did fear them yet being scared with beasts that passed by and hissing of serpents 10 They died for fear ‖ Or 〈◊〉 susing to look upon denying that they saw the air which could of no side be avoided 11 For wickedness condemned by her own witness is very timorous and being pressed with conscience always foreca●seth grievous things 12 For fear is nothing else but a betraying of the succours which reason offereth 13 And the expectation from within being less counteth the ignorance more then the cause which bringeth the torment 14 But they sleeping the same sleep that night ‖ Or wherein they could do nothing which was indeed intolerable and which came upon them out of the bottoms of inevitable hell 15 Were partly vexed with monstrous apparitions and partly fainted their heart failing them for a sudden fear and not looked for came upon them 16 So then whosoever there sell down was straitly kept shut up in a prison without iron bars 17 For whether he were husbandman or shepherd or a labourer in the ‖ Or desert field he was overtaken and endured that necessity which could not be avoided for they were all bound with one chain of darkness 18 Whether it were a whistling wind or a melodious noise of birds among the spreading branches or a pleasing fall of water running violently 19 Or a ‖ Or hideous terrible sound of stones cast down or a running that could not be seen of skipping beasts or a roaring voice of most savage wilde beasts or a rebounding eccho from the hollow mountains these things made them to swoon for fear 20 For the whole world shined with clear light and none were hindred in their labour 21 Over them onely was spread an heavy night an image of that darkness which should afterward receive them but yet were they unto themselves more grievous then the darkness CHAP. XVIII 4 Why Egypt was punished with darkness 5 and with the death of their children 18 They themselves saw the cause thereof 20 God also plagued his own people 21 By what means that plague was stayed NEvertheless thy saints had a very great * Exod. 20.23 light whose voice they hearing and not seeing their shape because they also had not suffered the same things they counted them happy 2 But for that they did not hurt them now of whom they had been wronged before they thanked them and besought them pardon for that they had been enemies 3 * Ex. 13.21 14.24 Ps 78.14 105.39 In stead whereof thou gavest them a burning pillar of fire both to be a guide of the unknown journey and an harmless sun to entertain them honourably 4 For they were worthy to be deprived of light and imprisoned in darkness who had kept thy sons shut up by whom the ‖ Or incorruptible uncorrupt light of the law was to be given unto the world 5 * Exod. 14 ●4 25. And when they had determined to slay the babes of the saints one childe being cast forth and saved to reprove them thou tookest away the multitude of their children and destroyedst them altogether in a mighty water 6 * Exod. 11.4 Of that night were our fathers certified afore that assuredly knowing unto what oaths they had given credence they might after●ards be of good cheer 7 So of thy people was accepted both the salvation of the righteous and destruction of the enemies 8 For wherewith thou didst punish our adversaries by the same thou didst glorify us whom thou hadst called 9 * Exod. 10. For the righteous children of good men did sacrifice secretly and with one consent made ‖ Or a covenant of God or league See Psal 50.5 a holy law that the saints should be like partakers of the same good and evil the fathers now singing out the songs of praise 10 But on the other side there sounded an ill-according cry of the enemies and a lamentable noise was carried abroad for children that were bewailed 11 * Ex. 11.5 12.29 The master and the servant were punished after one manner and like as the king so suffered the common person 12 So they altogether had innumerable dead with one kinde of death neither were the living sufficient to bury them for in one moment the noblest offspring of them was destroyed 13 For whereas they would not beleeve any thing by reason of the inchantments upon the destruction of the first-born they acknowledged this people to be the sons of God 14 For while all things were in quiet silence and that night was in the midst of her swift course 15 Thine Almighty word leapt down from heaven out of thy royal throne as a fierce man of war into the midst of a land of destruction 16 And brought thine unfeigned commandment as a sharp sword and standing up filled all things with death and it touched the heaven but it stood upon the earth 17 Then suddenly ‖ Or imaginations visions of horrible dreams troubled them fore and terrours came upon them unlooked for 18 And one thrown here and another there half-dead shewed the cause of his death 19 For the dreams that troubled them did
honest though we be as reprobates 8 For we can do nothing against the truth but for the truth 9 For we are glad when we are weak and ye are strong and this also we wish even your perfection 10 Therefore I write these things being absent lest being present I should use sharpness according to the power which the Lord hath given me to edification and not to destruction 11 Finally brethren farewel Be perfect be of good comfort be of one minde live in peace and the God of love and peace shall be with you 12 * Rom. 16.16 Greet one another with an holy kiss 13 All the saints salute you 14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the communion of the holy Ghost be with you all Amen ¶ The second epistle to the Corinthians was written from Philippi a city of Macedonia by Titus and Lucas ¶ The epistle of PAUL the Apostle to the GALATIANS CHAP. I. 6 He wondreth that they have so soon lest him and the gospel 8 and accurseth those that preath any other gospel then he did 11 He learned the gospel not of men but of God 13 and sheweth what he was before his calling 17 and what he did presently after it PAul an apostle not of men neither by man but by Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised him from the dead 2 And all the brethren which are with me unto the churches of Galatia 3 Grace be to you and peace from God the Father and from our Lord Jesus Christ 4 Who gave himself for our sins that he might deliver us from this present evil world according to the will of God and our Father 5 To whom be glory for ever and ever Amen 6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel 7 Which is not another but there be some that trouble you and would pervert the gospel of Christ 8 But though we or an angel from heaven preach any other gospel unto you then that which we have preached unto you let him be accursed 9 As we said before so say I now again If any man preach any other gospel unto you then that ye have received let him be accursed 10 For do I now perswade men or God or do I seek to please men for if I yet pleased men I should not be the servant of Christ 11 But I certifie you brethren that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man 12 For I neither received it of man neither was I taught it but by the revelation of Jesus Christ 13 For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews religion how that * Act. 9.1 beyond measure I persecuted the church of God and wasted it 14 And profited in the Jews religion above many my † Gr. equals in years equals in mine own nation being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers 15 But when it pleased God who separated me from my mothers womb and called me by his grace 16 To reveal his Son in me that * Eph. 3 8. I might preach him among the heathen immediately I conferred not with flesh and bloud 17 Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me but I went into Arabia and returned again unto Damascus 18 Then after three years I ‖ Or returned went up to Jerusalem to see Peter and abode with him fifteen days 19 But other of the apostles saw I none save James the Lords brother 20 Now the things which I write unto you behold before God I lie not 21 Afterwards I came into the regions of Syria and Cilicia 22 And was unknown by face unto the churches of Judea which were in Christ 23 But they had heard onely That he which persecuted us in times past now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed 24 And they glorified God in me CHAP. II. 1 He sheweth when he went up again to Jerusalem and for what pur-purpose and that Titus was not circumcised 11 and that he resisted Peter and told him the reason 14 why he and other being Jews do beleeve in Christ to be justified by faith and not by works 20 and that they live not in sin who are so justified THen fourteen years after I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas and took Titus with me alse 2 And I went up by revelation and communicated unto them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles but ‖ Or severally privately to them which were of reputation lest by any means I should run or had run in vain 3 But neither Titus who was with me being a Greek was compelled to be circumcised 4 And that because of false brethren unawares brought in who came in privily to spie out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus that they might bring us into bondage 5 To whom we gave place by subjection no not for an hour that the truth of the gospel might continue with you 6 But of these who seemed to be somewhat whatsoever they were it maketh no matter to me * Rom 2.12 God accepteth no mans person for they who seemed to be somewhat in conference added nothing to me 7 But contrariwise when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter 8 For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision the same was mighty in me towards the Gentiles 9 And when James Cephas and John who seemed to be pillars perceived the grace that was given unto me they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship that we should go unto the heathen and they unto the circumcision 10 Onely they would that we should remember the poor the same which I also was forward to do 11 But when Peter was come to Antioch I withstood him to the face because he was to be blamed 12 For before that certain came from James he did eat with the Gentiles but when they were come he withdrew and separated himself fearing them which were of the circumcision 13 And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation 14 But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel I said unto Peter before them all If thou being a Jew livest after the manner of Gentiles and not as do the Jews why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews 15 We who are Jews by nature and not sinners of the Gentiles 16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by the faith of Jesus Christ even we have believed in Jesus Christ that we might be justified by the faith of Christ and not by the works of the law for * Rom. 3.20 by the works of the law shall no flesh be
of other mens sins keep thy self pure 23 Drink no longer water but use a little wine for thy stomachs sake and thine often infirmities 24 Some mens sins are open before-hand going before to judgement and some men they follow after 25 Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand and they that are otherwise cannot be hid CHAP. VI. 1 Of the duty of servants 3 Not to have fellowship with new-fangled teachers 6 Godliness is great gain and love of money the root of all evil 11 What Timothy is to flee and what to follow 17 and whereof to admonish the rich 20 To keep the purity of true doctrine and to avoid profane janglings LEt as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed 2 And they that have beleeving masters let them not despise them because they are brethren but rather do them service because they are ‖ Or beleeving faithful and beloved partakers of the benefit These things teach and exhort 3 If any man teach otherwise and consent not to wholesom words even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ and to the doctrine which is according to godliness 4 He is ‖ Or a fool proud knowing nothing but if doting about questions strifes of words whereof cometh envy strife railings evil surmisings 5 ‖ Or sick Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth supposing that gain is godliness from such withdraw thy self 6 But godliness with contentment is great gain 7 For we brought nothing into this world and it is certain we can carry nothing out 8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content 9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish and hurtful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition 10 For the love of money is the root of all evil which while some coveted after they have ‖ Or been seduced erred from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows 11 But thou O man of God flee these things and follow after righteousness godliness faith love patience meekness 12 Fight the good fight of faith lay hold on eternal life whereunto thou art also called and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses 13 I give thee charge in the sight of God who quickneth all things and before Christ Jesus who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good ‖ Or profession confession 14 That thou keep this commandment without spot unrebukeable until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ 15 Which in his times he shall shew who is the blessed and onely Potentate * Rev. 1● 4 19.16 the King of kings and Lord of lords 16 Who onely hath immortality dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto * John 1.18 1 John 4 12. whom no man hath seen nor can see to whom be honour and power everlasting Amen 17 Charge them that are rich in this world that they be not high-minded nor trust in † Gr. uncertainty of riches uncertain riches but in the living God who giveth us richly all things to enjoy 18 That they do good that they be rich in good works ready to distribute ‖ Or sociable willing to communicate 19 * Matth. 6.20 Luke 12.32 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come that they may lay hold on eternal life 20 O Timothy keep that which is committed to thy trust avoiding profane and vain babblings and oppositions of science falsly so called 21 Which some professing have erred concerning the faith Grace be with thee Amen ¶ The first to Timothy was written from Laodicea which is the chiefest city of Phrygia Paca●iana ¶ The second epistle of PAUL the Apostle to TIMOTHY CHAP. I. Pauls love to Timothy and the unfeigned faith which was in Timothy himself his mother and grandmother 6 He is exhorted to stir up the gift of God which was in him 8 to be stedfast and patient in persecution 13 and to persist in the form and truth of that doctrine which he had learned of him 15 Phygellus and Hermogenes and such like are noted and Onesiphorus is highly commended PAul an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus 2 To Timothy my dearly beloved son● Grace mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. 3 I thank God whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day 4 Greatly dearing to see thee being mindful of thy tears that I may be filled with joy 5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois and thy mother Eunice and I am perswaded that in thee also 6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God which is in thee by the putting on of my hands 7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound minde 8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord nor of me his prisoner but he thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God 9 Who hath saved us and called us with an holy calling * Tit. 3.3 not according to our works but according to his own purpose and grace which was given us in Christ Jesus * Eph. 1.4 Tit. 1.2 before the world began 10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ who hath abolished death and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel 11 * 1 Tim. 2.7 Whereunto I am appointed a preacher and an apostle and a teacher of the Gentiles 12 For the which cause I also suffer these things nevertheless I am not ashamed for I know whom I have ‖ Or trusted beleeved and I am perswaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day 13 Hold fast the form of sound words which thou hast heard of me in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus 14 That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the holy Ghost which dwelleth in us 15 This thou knowest that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes 16 The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus for he oft refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chain 17 But when he was in Rome he sought me out very diligently and found me 18 The Lord grant unto him that he may finde mercy of the Lord in that day And in how many things he ministred unto me at Ephesus thou knowest very well CHAP. II. 1 He is exhorted again to constaney and
the rich and to despise the poor brethren 13 rather we are to be loving and merciful 14 and not to boast of faith where no deeds are 17 which is but a dead faith 19 the faith of devils 21 not of Abraham 25 and Rabab MY brethren have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ the Lord of glory with * Lev. 19.15 Deut. 1.17 and 16.19 Prov. 24.23 respect of persons 2 For if there come unto your † Gr. synagogue assembly a man with a gold ring in goodly apparel and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment 3 And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing and say unto him Sit thou here ‖ Or well or seemly in a good place and say to the poor Stand thou there or sit here under my footstool 4 Are ye not then partial in your selves and are become judges of evil thoughts 5 Hearken my beloved brethren Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith and heirs of ‖ Or that the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him * Lev. 19.18 Rom 13.9 6 But ye have des●ised the poor Do not rich men oppress you and draw you before the judgment-seats 7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called 8 If ye fulfil the royal saw according to the scripture * Lev. 19.18 Rom 13.9 Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thy self ye do well 9 But if ye have respect to persons ye commit sin and are convinced of the law as transgressours 10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law and yet offend in one point he is guisty of all 11 For ‖ Or that law which said he that said Do not commit adultery said also Do not kill Now if thou commit no adultery yet if thou kill thou art become a transgressour of the law 12 So speak ye c so do as they the shall be judged by the law of liberty 13 For he shall have judgement without mercy that hath shewed no mercy and mercy ‖ Or glorieth rejoyceth against judgement 14 What doth it profit my brethren though a man say he hath faith and have not works can faith save him 15 If a brother or sister be naked and destitute of daily food 16 And one of you say unto them Depart in peace be you warmed and filled notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body what doth it profit 17 Even so faith if it hath not works is dead being † Gr by it self alone 18 Yea a man may say Thou hast faith and I have works shew me thy faith ‖ Some copies read by thy works without thy works I will shew thee my faith by my works 19 Thou beleevest that there is one God thou doest well the devils also beleeve and tremble 20 But wilt thou know O vain man that faith without works is dead 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar 22 ‖ Or thou seest Seest thou how faith wrought with his works and by works was faith made perfect 23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith * Gen. 15.6 Rum 4.3 Gal. 3.6 Abraham beleeved God and it was imputed unto him for righteousness and he was called the friend of God 24 Ye see then how the by works a man is justified not by faith onely 25 Likewise also was not Rahab the Harlot justified by works when she had received the messengers and had sent them out another way 26 For as the body without the ‖ Or breath spirit is dead so faith without works is dead also CHAP. III. 1 We are not rashly or arrogantly to reprove others 5 but rather to bridle the tongue a little member but a powerful instrument of much good and great barm 13 They who be truly wise be midde and peaceable without envying and strife MY brethren be not many masters knowing that we shall receive the greater ‖ Or judgement condemnation 2 For in many things we offend all * Ecclus. 14.1 and 19.16 and 25.8 If any man offend not in word the same is a perfect man and able also to bridle the whole body 3 Behold we put bits in the horses mouths that they may obey us and we turn about their whole body 4 Behold also the ships which though they be so great and are driven of fierce winds yet are they turned about with a very small helm whithersoever the governour listeth 5 Even so the tongue is a little member and boasteth great things Behold how great ‖ Or. wood a matter a little fire kindl●th 6 And the tongue is a fire a world of iniquity so is the tongue amongst our members that it defileth the whole body and setteth on fire the course of nature and it is let on fire of hell 7 For every † Gr. nature kinde of beasts and of birds and of serpents and things in the sea is tamed and hath been tamed of † Gr. nature of man mankinde 8 But the tongue can no man tame it is an unruly evil full of deadly poyson 9 Therewith bless we God even the Father and therewith curse we men which are made after the similitude of God 10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing My brethren these things ought not so to be 11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same ‖ Or bek place sweet water and bitter 12 Can the fig-tree my brethren bear olive-berries either a vine sigs so can no fountain both yeeld salt water and fresh 13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge amongst you let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom 14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts glory not and lie not against the truth 15 This wisdom descendeth not from above but is earthly ‖ Or natural sensual devilish 16 For where envying and strife is there is † Gr tumult or unquietness confusion and every evil work 17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure then peaceable gentle and easte to be intreated full of mercy and good fruits ‖ Or without wrangling without partiality and without hypocrisie 18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace CHAP. IV. 1 We are to strive against covetousness 4 intemperance 5 pride 11 detraction and rash judgement of others 13 and not to be confident in the good success of worldly business but mindful ever of the uncertainty of this life to commit our selves and all our affairs to Gods providence FRom whence come wars and ‖ Or brawlings fightings among you come they not hence even of your ‖ Or pleasures lusts that war in your members 2 Ye suit and have not ye kill and desire to have and cannot obtain ye sight
devil sinneth from the beginning For this purpose the Son of God was manifested that he might destroy the works of the devil 9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin for his seed remaineth in him and he cannot sin because he is born of God 10 In this the children of God are manifest and the children of the devil Whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God neither he that loveth not his brother 11 For this is the ‖ Or commandment message that ye heard from the beginning * Joh. 13.34 15.12 that we should love one another 12 Not as * Gen. 4.8 Cain who was of that wicked one and slew his brother And wherefore slew he him Because his own works were evil and his brothers righteous 13 Marvel not my brethren if the world hate you 14 We know that we have passed from death unto life because we love the brethren he that loveth not his brother abideth in death 15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him 16 Hereby perceive we the love of God because he laid down his life for us and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren 17 But * Luk. 3.11 whoso hath this worlds good and seeth his brother have need and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him how dwelleth the love of God in him 18 My little children let us not love in word neither in tongue but in deed and in truth 19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth and shall † Gr. pers●●●e assure our hearts before him 20 For it our heart condemn us God is greater then our heart and knoweth all things 21 Beloved if our heart condemn us not then have we confidence towards God 22 And * Mat. 21.22 Joh. 15.7 16.23 whatsoever we ask we receive of him because we keep his commandments and do those things that are pleasing in his sight 23 And * Joh. 6.29 and 17.3 this is his commandment that we should beleeve on the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another as he gave us commandment 24 And * Joh. 15. ●0 he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him and he in him and hereby we know that he abideth in us by the Spirit which he hath given us CHAP. IV. 1 He warneth them not to beleeve all teachers who boast of the Spirit but to try them by the rules of the catholick faith 7 and by many reasons exhorteth to brotherly love BEloved beleeve not every spirit but try the spirits whether they are of God because many false prophets are gone out into the world 2 Hereby know ye the spirit of God Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God and this is that spirit of antichrist whereof you have heard that it should come and even now already is it in the world 4 Ye are of God little children and have overcome them because greater is he that is in you then he that is in the world 5 They are of the world therefore speak they of the world and the world heareth them 6 We are of God * Joh. 8 47. he that knoweth God heareth us he that is not of God heareth not us Hereby know we the Spirit of truth and the spirit of errour 7 Beloved let us love one another for love is of God and every one that loveth is born of God and knoweth God 8 He that loveth not knoweth not God for God is love 9 * Joh. 3.16 In this was manifested the love of God towards us because that God sent his onely begotten Son into the world that we might live through him 10 Herein is love not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins 11 Beloved if God so loved us we ought also to love one another 12 * 1 Tim. 6.16 No man hath seen God at any time If we love one another God dwelleth in us and his love is perfected in us 13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him and he in us because he hath given us of his Spirit 14 And we have seen and do testifie that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world 15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God God dwelleth in him and he in God 16 And we have known and beleeved the love that God hath to us God is love and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God and God in him 17 Herein is † Gr. love with us our love made perfect that we may have boldness in the day of judgement because as he is so are we in this world 18 There is no fear in love but perfect love casteth out fear because fear hath torment he that feareth is not made perfect in love 19 We love him because he first loved us 20 If a man say I love God and hateth his brother he is a liar for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen how can he love God whom he hath not seen 21 And * Joh. 13.34 15.12 this commandment have we from him that he who loveth God love his brother also CHAP. V. He that loveth God loveth his children and keepeth his commandments 3 which to the faithful are light and not grievous 9 Jesus is the Son of God able to save us 14 and to bear our prayers which we make for our selves and for others WHosoever beleeveth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him 2 By this we know that we love the children of God when we love God and keep his commandments 3 For this is the love of God that we keep his commandments and * Mat. 11.30 his commandments are not grievous 4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world and this is the victory that overcometh the world even our faith 5 Who is he that overcometh the world but he that beleeveth that Jesus is the Son of God 6 This is he that came by water and bloud even Jesus Christ not by water onely but by water and bloud and it is the Spirit that beareth witness because the Spirit is truth 7 For there are three that bear record in heaven the Father the Word and the holy Ghost and these three are one 8 And there are three that bear witness in earth the spirit and the water and the bloud and these three agree in one 9 If we receive the witness of men the witness of God is greater for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son 10 He that beleeveth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself he that beleeveth
