so_o that_o by_o he_o there_o be_v as_o full_a pardon_n of_o sin_n purchase_v 5._o as_o ever_o be_v by_o adam_n procure_v guiltiness_n and_o condemnation_n and_o thus_o much_o of_o these_o two_o first_o point_n that_o he_o who_o god_n will_v effectual_o call_v to_o the_o assurance_n of_o salvation_n must_v have_v knowledge_n in_o general_a of_o man_n misery_n and_o god_n mercy_n by_o christ_n redemption_n chap._n 4._o how_o this_o knowledge_n work_v and_o namely_o the_o first_o work_n that_o god_n make_v they_o believe_v their_o misery_n and_o to_o be_v trouble_v in_o mind_n for_o it_o there_o be_v yet_o want_v the_o true_a embrace_n and_o apply_v of_o christ_n with_o all_o the_o merit_n of_o his_o death_n and_o passion_n treatise_n to_o this_o man_n that_o have_v the_o foresay_a knowledge_n or_o else_o he_o can_v in_o no_o wise_n be_v happy_a let_v we_o see_v therefore_o how_o this_o knowledge_n work_v in_o he_o on_o who_o god_n will_v show_v mercy_n how_o god_n by_o the_o light_n and_o help_v of_o it_o draw_v he_o forward_o until_o he_o believe_v for_o his_o own_o part_n and_o in_o his_o own_o person_n which_o the_o other_o who_o have_v only_o the_o general_a knowledge_n before_o mention_v never_o attain_v to_o and_o this_o be_v the_o last_o of_o the_o three_o point_n which_o i_o purpose_v to_o handle_v about_o this_o matter_n namely_o in_o show_v who_o be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n which_o be_v do_v the_o question_n in_o hand_n shall_v appear_v and_o be_v manifest_a this_o only_a by_o the_o way_n it_o shall_v be_v fit_a to_o admonish_v the_o reader_n of_o as_o i_o say_v before_o that_o he_o be_v in_o no_o way_n to_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n who_o be_v yet_o void_a of_o this_o knowledge_n altogether_o of_o his_o misery_n i_o mean_v and_o of_o the_o remedy_n which_o kind_n of_o people_n although_o they_o be_v least_o trouble_v in_o their_o conscience_n of_o all_o other_o man_n but_o be_v merry_a mourn_v as_o though_o no_o danger_n be_v come_v towards_o they_o and_o therefore_o keep_v a_o course_n in_o their_o life_n which_o be_v after_o the_o fashion_n of_o the_o world_n be_v to_o be_v pity_v and_o pray_v for_o and_o to_o be_v persuade_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n preach_v rather_o than_o to_o be_v allow_v in_o their_o madness_n and_o folly_n who_o verify_v most_o right_o the_o say_n of_o the_o wiseman_n that_o there_o be_v a_o way_n that_o seem_v pleasant_a to_o they_o 14.16_o but_o the_o issue_n thereof_o be_v the_o way_n of_o death_n god_n suffer_v they_o as_o he_o do_v the_o gentile_n to_o walk_v in_o their_o own_o way_n but_o to_o leave_v they_o as_o sufficient_o convince_v of_o a_o woeful_a estate_n even_o by_o the_o testimony_n of_o man_n who_o have_v any_o judgement_n and_o to_o go_v forward_o with_o that_o which_o be_v in_o hand_n that_o be_v to_o show_v how_o this_o doctrine_n work_v in_o he_o who_o by_o it_o shall_v come_v to_o true_a faith_n and_o assure_a hope_n of_o salvation_n we_o be_v to_o know_v that_o he_o remain_v not_o a_o idle_a and_o unprofitable_a hearer_n as_o sometime_o and_o as_o many_o other_o still_o do_v but_o be_v secret_o draw_v he_o can_v tell_v how_o by_o the_o unspeakable_a work_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n to_o be_v persuade_v that_o the_o doctrine_n teach_v do_v conerne_n he_o 1.9_o the_o lord_n give_v he_o with_o his_o knowledge_n wisdom_n which_o be_v a_o gift_n of_o the_o spirit_n whereby_o he_o appll_v general_a thing_n particular_o to_o himself_o and_o that_o he_o thereby_o speak_v unto_o he_o as_o well_o as_o he_o do_v to_o any_o other_o in_o the_o denounce_v the_o threat_n of_o the_o law_n 15.4_o and_o everlasting_a damnation_n and_o his_o eye_n be_v now_o open_v to_o believe_v this_o he_o think_v himself_o the_o miserable_a of_o all_o other_o who_o before_o nothing_o at_o all_o regard_v the_o welfare_n of_o his_o soul_n but_o think_v himself_o in_o as_o good_a case_n to_o godward_o as_o any_o other_o he_o now_o lest_o it_o shall_v be_v convict_v by_o it_o and_o therefore_o can_v believe_v the_o promise_n of_o the_o gospel_n yet_o god_n otherwise_o provide_v for_o his_o that_o they_o by_o see_v and_o feel_v the_o desert_n of_o their_o sin_n may_v have_v a_o appetite_n thereby_o to_o seek_v mercy_n and_o forgiveness_n which_o without_o it_o be_v unsavourie_a to_o they_o as_o our_o saviour_n christ_n say_v hereafter_o we_o shall_v see_v also_o he_o consider_v that_o god_n be_v slow_a to_o anger_n and_o ready_a to_o forgive_v sinner_n be_v gracious_a and_o full_a of_o mercy_n and_o though_o that_o think_v be_v repel_v through_o the_o remembrance_n of_o the_o greatness_n of_o his_o sin_n and_o unacquaintednes_n with_o the_o promise_n yet_o there_o be_v no_o doubt_n but_o that_o he_o be_v extremity_n therefore_o of_o his_o and_o be_v in_o this_o straight_a and_o distress_n 7.24_o he_o cry_v out_o with_o paul_n o_o wretched_a man_n that_o i_o be_o who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o and_o therefore_o the_o lord_n guide_v he_o to_o some_o instructor_n as_o he_o do_v paul_n to_o ananias_n act._n 9.17_o or_o stay_v he_o by_o the_o public_a ministry_n or_o by_o his_o own_o knowledge_n but_o unreformed_a and_o unmortify_v a_o happy_a discipline_n and_o nurture_n to_o be_v wonder_v at_o that_o can_v so_o soon_o and_o sudden_o break_v the_o clod_n of_o so_o hard_a a_o heart_n and_o so_o easy_o wind_v he_o as_o a_o twig_n or_o wand_n whether_o it_o list_v he_o who_o can_v not_o before_o any_o more_o than_o the_o great_a tree_n in_o the_o least_o manner_n be_v bow_v thus_o must_v the_o lord_n work_n and_o show_v his_o wisdom_n and_o power_n upon_o this_o unframed_a and_o crooked_a person_n before_o he_o can_v be_v make_v right_a and_o straight_o but_o what_o then_o perhaps_o you_o will_v say_v and_o what_o be_v this_o man_n the_o near_a to_o god_n kingdom_n and_o the_o sight_n and_o knowledge_n of_o his_o redemption_n out_o of_o his_o forementioned_a misery_n i_o answer_v very_o much_o every_o manner_n of_o way_n for_o be_v thus_o humble_v he_o be_v now_o easy_o to_o be_v persuade_v and_o be_v by_o the_o same_o spirit_n of_o god_n enlighten_v whereby_o he_o be_v cast_v down_o with_o heaviness_n and_o fear_v before_o he_o be_v fit_a to_o think_v of_o and_o to_o remember_v the_o sweet_a promise_n of_o god_n which_o before_o though_o he_o have_v hear_v yet_o see_v that_o he_o have_v nothing_o to_o do_v with_o they_o and_o therefore_o dare_v not_o hearken_v after_o they_o now_o he_o can_v think_v of_o that_o which_o by_o preach_v he_o sometime_o hear_v as_o one_o who_o may_v be_v in_o hope_n to_o be_v the_o better_a for_o it_o that_o god_n be_v of_o that_o nature_n that_o he_o may_v be_v entreat_v and_o reconcile_v to_o he_o the_o four_o work_n a_o secret_a desire_n of_o forgiveness_n and_o by_o such_o consideration_n he_o raise_v up_o himself_o and_o the_o lord_n kindle_v in_o he_o a_o especial_a desire_n of_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n and_o of_o the_o favour_n of_o god_n which_o can_v be_v right_a and_o well_o order_v if_o it_o do_v not_o proceed_v from_o some_o hope_n that_o god_n will_v be_v entreat_v of_o he_o here_o therefore_o that_o they_o be_v the_o elect_a of_o god_n and_o without_o waver_v can_v be_v sufficient_o and_o clear_o enough_o lay_v forth_o by_o the_o skilful_a teacher_n seldom_o teach_v neither_o if_o it_o can_v be_v the_o hearer_n able_a to_o conceive_v and_o understand_v 8.11_o remember_v and_o be_v familiar_o acquaint_v with_o it_o so_o as_o they_o may_v be_v able_a to_o try_v themselves_o and_o to_o seven_o as_o they_o say_v in_o the_o world_n and_o to_o make_v they_o shift_v for_o themselves_o as_o orphan_n and_o to_o trust_v to_o their_o own_o wisdom_n and_o strength_n to_o preserve_v they_o make_v they_o their_o bane_n which_o be_v give_v they_o as_o blessing_n this_o grace_n therefore_o if_o any_o shall_v be_v find_v to_o enjoy_v they_o may_v be_v worthy_o say_v to_o be_v privilege_v with_o themselves_o daily_o to_o think_v of_o they_o still_o and_o to_o purge_v out_o their_o old_a and_o accustom_a delighting_n in_o worldly_a thing_n their_o dream_n of_o long_a life_n desire_v of_o ease_n and_o increase_v of_o earthly_a commodity_n with_o all_o which_o the_o devil_n stuff_v and_o fill_v their_o brain_n that_o while_o they_o begin_v to_o give_v themselves_o over_o to_o these_o they_o may_v be_v persuade_v strong_o that_o there_o be_v no_o other_o happiness_n to_o be_v attain_v unto_o and_o so_o thereby_o destruction_n may_v sudden_o come_v upon_o they_o thus_o i_o say_v the_o lord_n frame_v he_o to_o the_o contempt_n of_o the_o world_n hereof_o and_o to_o temperance_n and_o contentation_n to_o desire_v no_o more_o than_o their_o most_o wise_a &_o provident_a poison_a and_o deceitful_a bait_n and_o dainty_n as_o they_o see_v they_o so_o greedy_o to_o devour_v for_o otherwise_o though_o they_o be_v frail_a yet_o have_v receive_v a_o taste_n of_o the_o heavenly_a doctrine_n which_o be_v the_o only_a mother_n and_o nourisher_n of_o true_a sobriety_n they_o shall_v not_o so_o easy_o forget_v themselves_o and_o be_v overcome_v of_o their_o vain_a desire_n for_o if_o popish_a dream_n and_o fantasy_n without_o all_o ground_n of_o god_n word_n have_v so_o enchant_a prince_n and_o other_o person_n of_o great_a possession_n that_o they_o have_v draw_v they_o from_o their_o pomp_n and_o many_o solemnity_n into_o monastery_n and_o nunnery_n for_o the_o deceivable_a hope_n of_o salvation_n shall_v not_o the_o word_n of_o truth_n much_o more_o prevail_v with_o they_o who_o have_v have_v a_o right_a taste_n of_o it_o to_o renounce_v dangerous_a and_o unlawful_a liberty_n and_o although_o they_o be_v lead_v from_o one_o error_n to_o another_o yet_o if_o error_n may_v do_v so_o much_o with_o they_o shall_v not_o the_o truth_n do_v much_o more_o with_o the_o child_n of_o the_o truth_n to_o abide_v in_o it_o and_o be_v govern_v by_o it_o it_o be_v pity_n that_o any_o of_o the_o lord_n belove_v shall_v offer_v such_o dishonour_n to_o the_o glorious_a word_n of_o god_n as_o to_o refuse_v the_o government_n of_o it_o and_o give_v occasion_n to_o the_o unbeliever_n to_o say_v that_o god_n diet_v his_o people_n so_o mean_o in_o his_o own_o house_n that_o they_o be_v drive_v to_o eat_v with_o the_o intemperate_a at_o their_o table_n as_o it_o be_v their_o poison_a dainty_n but_o let_v this_o reproof_n make_v any_o such_o of_o god_n servant_n ashamed_a as_o have_v give_v occasion_n of_o it_o and_o let_v they_o not_o follow_v the_o excess_n of_o such_o as_o know_v no_o better_o and_o when_o they_o shall_v find_v this_o doctrine_n hard_a to_o be_v practise_v that_o be_v to_o use_v their_o prosperity_n right_o and_o sober_o if_o take_v hold_v on_o they_o which_o do_v on_o other_o man_n who_o be_v stranger_n to_o such_o a_o course_n for_o the_o great_a and_o sore_a punishment_n and_o trouble_n that_o fall_v upon_o any_o be_v bring_v upon_o they_o by_o their_o sin_n contrary_a to_o the_o erroneous_a opinion_n of_o they_o who_o think_v that_o religion_n be_v the_o chief_a cause_n of_o trouble_n &_o they_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o the_o fruit_n thereof_o and_o the_o great_a sinner_n that_o man_n be_v the_o sharp_a and_o heavy_a judgement_n outward_a or_o inward_a do_v meet_v with_o and_o take_v hold_v of_o they_o other_o estate_n hard_o and_o full_a of_o weariness_n and_o thus_o much_o be_v say_v of_o this_o privilege_n of_o the_o perseverance_n of_o the_o godly_a unto_o their_o end_n and_o so_o of_o all_o the_o other_o which_o be_v enjoy_v in_o this_o life_n all_o which_o although_o they_o be_v of_o so_o singular_a price_n as_o i_o have_v declare_v yet_o if_o they_o have_v not_o other_o adjoin_v unto_o they_o which_o be_v immortal_a and_o perpetual_a and_o shall_v then_o be_v enjoy_v when_o these_o temporary_a prerogative_n shall_v be_v at_o a_o end_n our_o life_n shall_v be_v but_o miserable_a as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v when_o he_o say_v 15.19_o if_o in_o this_o life_n only_o we_o have_v hope_n of_o christ_n we_o be_v of_o all_o man_n the_o most_o miserable_a and_o yet_o both_o together_o unmatchable_a chap._n 14._o of_o the_o ten_o and_o last_o privilege_n enjoy_v perfect_o in_o the_o life_n to_o come_v but_o begin_v here_o so_o that_o when_o we_o have_v have_v our_o part_n in_o all_o
