it_o be_v if_o you_o do_v but_o taste_v of_o this_o meat_n you_o will_v say_v oh_o taste_n and_o see_v how_o good_a the_o lord_n be_v there_o be_v pleasure_n and_o sweetness_n there_o be_v enough_o to_o take_v up_o all_o your_o affection_n and_o all_o your_o sense_n here_o you_o may_v see_v and_o taste_v you_o may_v see_v beauty_n and_o taste_n sweetness_n the_o tree_n of_o life_n be_v not_o only_o beautiful_a good_a to_o look_v upon_o beautiful_a to_o the_o eye_n but_o it_o be_v good_a for_o food_n let_v i_o tell_v you_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o to_o see_v the_o beauty_n of_o the_o tree_n of_o life_n it_o be_v not_o enough_o to_o look_v upon_o it_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o to_o see_v but_o your_o soul_n must_v taste_v you_o will_v never_o be_v the_o better_a for_o the_o fruit_n that_o grow_v upon_o christ_n unless_o you_o taste_v it_o unless_o you_o come_v and_o feed_v experimental_o upon_o christ_n it_o be_v not_o enough_o to_o hear_v that_o the_o lord_n be_v good_a it_o be_v not_o enough_o that_o you_o have_v hear_v that_o there_o be_v so_o much_o pleasant_a fruit_n grow_v upon_o christ_n but_o as_o ever_o you_o desire_v to_o be_v nourish_v comfort_v revive_v strengthen_v and_o quicken_v why_o then_o come_v here_o and_o taste_v and_o see_v how_o good_a the_o lord_n be_v it_o be_v mercy_n that_o you_o have_v a_o invitation_n it_o be_v a_o direful_a their_o lust_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o their_o vanity_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o their_o cup_n sin_n be_v sweet_a but_o oh_o the_o bitterness_n the_o poison_n of_o asp_n that_o sin_n leave_v behind_o in_o the_o conscience_n you_o have_v try_v it_o may_v be_v to_o put_v out_o the_o taste_n of_o sin_n to_o do_v away_o the_o bitterness_n that_o sin_n have_v leave_v behind_o and_o you_o swallow_v many_o a_o good_a ordinance_n after_o it_o many_o a_o good_a duty_n as_o you_o have_v suppose_v you_o have_v wash_v with_o your_o own_o tear_n and_o yet_o the_o taste_n of_o sin_n be_v leave_v behind_o and_o true_o brethren_n not_o wonder_v there_o be_v nothing_o in_o the_o world_n will_v do_v away_o the_o taste_n the_o bitter_a taste_n of_o sin_n but_o only_o the_o taste_n of_o the_o fruit_n of_o christ_n o_o come_v and_o taste_v of_o this_o fruit_n it_o will_v leave_v a_o sweet_a relish_n behind_o it_o will_v leave_v a_o taste_n in_o your_o soul_n and_o conscience_n that_o shall_v always_o be_v above_o and_o prevail_v against_o the_o bitter_a taste_n of_o sin_n nay_o further_o let_v i_o tell_v you_o there_o be_v nothing_o else_o can_v sweeten_v your_o affliction_n there_o be_v nothing_o else_o can_v sweeten_v your_o temptation_n and_o your_o trial_n but_o only_o a_o taste_n of_o the_o fruit_n of_o christ_n this_o will_v take_v away_o all_o the_o bitterness_n their_o mouth_n and_o soul_n and_o the_o fruit_n of_o the_o tree_n of_o life_n preserve_v they_o quest_n but_o how_o may_v you_o know_v that_o you_o have_v taste_v of_o this_o fruit_n of_o the_o tree_n of_o life_n answ_n you_o may_v know_v it_o by_o your_o desire_n after_o christ_n when_o the_o soul_n have_v taste_v of_o the_o fruit_n of_o christ_n it_o desire_v to_o taste_v more_o of_o that_o fruit_n and_o it_o will_v see_v a_o averseness_n to_o sin_n so_o do_v the_o spouse_n of_o christ_n she_o sit_v down_o and_o desire_v to_o eat_v as_o i_o tell_v you_o it_o be_v render_v she_o sit_v down_o and_o desire_v to_o eat_v and_o still_o to_o eat_v her_o desire_n be_v carry_v out_o still_o after_o further_a and_o further_a enjoyment_n and_o taste_n of_o christ_n when_o the_o woman_n of_o samaria_n have_v taste_v of_o the_o sweetness_n of_o the_o water_n of_o life_n in_o john_n 14._o 15._o give_v i_o to_o drink_v of_o this_o water_n that_o i_o thirst_v not_o give_v i_o evermore_o to_o drink_v of_o this_o water_n she_o taste_v but_o a_o drop_n and_o this_o give_v she_o to_o cry_v out_o o_o lord_n give_v i_o evermore_o to_o drink_v of_o this_o water_n so_o the_o soul_n have_v once_o taste_v but_o a_o taste_n of_o this_o fruit_n of_o the_o tree_n of_o life_n lord_n give_v i_o evermore_o to_o eat_v of_o this_o tree_n of_o this_o fruit_n again_o it_o be_v know_v by_o the_o contentment_n delight_n and_o satisfaction_n that_o the_o soul_n do_v find_v in_o christ_n by_o the_o taste_n of_o he_o it_o have_v satisfaction_n in_o christ_n a_o high_a esteem_n and_o honourable_a esteem_n such_o a_o esteem_n as_o david_n have_v he_o desire_v to_o be_v a_o doorkeeper_n in_o the_o court_n and_o house_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o so_o the_o soul_n that_o have_v taste_v of_o christ_n oh_o lord_n let_v i_o eat_v of_o thy_o fruit_n though_o my_o condition_n be_v never_o so_o low_a let_v i_o sit_v under_o thy_o tree_n though_o i_o sit_v like_o job_n on_o the_o dunghill_n let_v i_o sit_v down_o and_o eat_v of_o thy_o fruit_n and_o it_o be_v enough_o it_o satisfy_v when_o it_o have_v christ_n whatever_o it_o have_v it_o be_v satisfy_v if_o it_o be_v but_o the_o fruit_n of_o christ_n love_n it_o be_v satisfy_v if_o it_o be_v but_o a_o piece_n of_o bread_n if_o it_o have_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n with_o it_o i_o shall_v say_v lord_z my_o lot_n be_v fall_v on_o a_o goodly_a ground_n and_o thus_o say_v our_o saviour_n noman_n that_o have_v drink_v old_a wine_n and_o taste_v of_o new_a desire_v the_o old_a again_o because_o it_o be_v bitter_a to_o he_o so_o no_o man_n that_o be_v once_o in_o christ_n desire_v to_o taste_v of_o the_o fruit_n
and_o behold_v the_o goodness_n of_o the_o lord_n in_o they_o and_o yet_o oh_o how_o ready_a be_v we_o to_o aggravate_v our_o wrong_n and_o compass_v they_o round_o again_o and_o again_o and_o aggravate_v they_o to_o the_o uttermost_a oh_o how_o far_o do_v such_o come_v short_a of_o walk_v up_o to_o the_o rule_n of_o christ_n and_o let_v it_o be_v consider_v what_o shall_v become_v of_o poor_a creature_n if_o the_o lord_n shall_v aggravate_v thy_o offence_n as_o thou_o do_v thy_o brother_n and_o set_v they_o before_o thou_o withal_o the_o aggravation_n of_o they_o how_o sad_a will_v it_o be_v unto_o thou_o oh_o that_o we_o may_v not_o improve_v and_o aggravate_v all_o to_o the_o height_n for_o that_o spirit_n be_v very_o unlike_a unto_o jesus_n christ_n again_o 4._o four_o they_o be_v far_o from_o this_o rule_n that_o be_v hardly_o bring_v off_o unto_o reconciliation_n that_o although_o there_o be_v confession_n and_o although_o there_o be_v acknowledgement_n sometime_o though_o they_o that_o have_v offend_v be_v ready_a to_o acknowledge_v the_o offence_n and_o do_v seek_v reconciliation_n nay_o although_o friend_n intercede_v and_o friend_n plead_v that_o they_o will_v be_v reconcile_v nay_o although_o god_n step_v in_o and_o christ_n plead_v and_o christ_n beseech_v and_o christ_n command_v and_o god_n set_v a_o man_n conscience_n upon_o he_o and_o that_o speak_v unto_o he_o and_o let_v he_o know_v he_o be_v out_o of_o the_o way_n yet_o how_o hard_o be_v it_o for_o a_o man_n to_o bring_v off_o his_o heart_n into_o a_o reconciliation_n with_o his_o brother_n after_o some_o wrong_n and_o injury_n which_o be_v do_v unto_o he_o and_o oh_o how_o unlike_a be_v this_o to_o god_n and_o how_o contrary_a be_v this_o unto_o the_o rule_n which_o christ_n here_o commend_v unto_o and_o command_v his_o disciple_n to_o follow_v but_o 5._o five_o again_o they_o be_v far_o from_o this_o lesson_n that_o instead_o of_o be_v reconcile_v or_o satisfy_v will_v avenge_v with_o his_o own_o tongue_n and_o his_o own_o hand_n oh_o curse_a be_v the_o wrath_n of_o simeon_n and_o levi_n whenas_o they_o will_v avenge_v that_o wrong_n that_o be_v do_v unto_o their_o satisfy_v his_o own_o heart_n nor_o his_o conscience_n but_o always_o he_o that_o have_v the_o best_a of_o it_o go_v with_o the_o worst_a of_o it_o now_o such_o as_o will_v pass_v by_o wrong_n and_o injury_n till_o they_o do_v requite_v they_o word_n for_o word_n and_o wrong_v for_o wrong_n they_o do_v walk_v contrary_a unto_o this_o rule_n which_o jesus_n christ_n have_v give_v unto_o his_o be_v that_o and_o when_o be_v it_o a_o mercy_n when_o do_v god_n shorten_v the_o day_n of_o his_o servant_n in_o love_n 1._o first_o of_o all_o god_n have_v some_o of_o his_o servant_n that_o lie_v under_o great_a pressure_n their_o combating_n be_v extraordinary_a and_o sometime_o he_o shorten_v the_o term_n of_o their_o life_n in_o mercy_n and_o love_n we_o shall_v consider_v those_o particular_a combat_n which_o some_o of_o the_o lord_n people_n be_v in_o a_o extraordinary_a manner_n exercise_v with_o and_o sometime_o in_o pity_n mercy_n and_o love_v the_o lord_n shorten_v their_o day_n on_o earth_n as_o 1._o first_o there_o be_v some_o of_o god_n servant_n that_o have_v extraordinary_a warring_n with_o corruption_n within_o they_o i_o say_v with_o corruption_n within_o they_o and_o this_o prove_v a_o most_o heavy_a burden_n to_o they_o and_o make_v their_o very_a life_n uncomfortable_a a_o continual_a burden_n to_o they_o oh_o these_o daughter_n of_o heth_n be_v a_o continual_a vexation_n unto_o rebecca_n the_o apostle_n paul_n be_v a_o man_n able_a to_o bear_v much_o and_o he_o bear_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o affliction_n which_o he_o meet_v withal_o in_o his_o pilgrimage_n that_o he_o can_v rejoice_v in_o affliction_n and_o glory_n in_o tribulation_n they_o be_v nothing_o to_o he_o but_o when_o he_o come_v to_o combat_v with_o sin_n lust_n and_o warfare_n in_o that_o 2._o again_o second_o god_n have_v some_o of_o his_o servant_n that_o be_v extraordinary_o employ_v with_o temptation_n oh_o they_o be_v hunt_v up_o and_o down_o and_o continual_o bait_v bait_v with_o satan_n most_o horrible_a temptation_n wind_n and_o storm_n be_v ever_o beat_v fiery_a dart_n be_v ever_o throw_v in_o before_o one_o wound_n be_v heal_v another_o be_v give_v well_o the_o lord_n look_v out_o from_o heaven_n he_o look_v down_o he_o see_v the_o combat_n and_o many_o time_n he_o make_v this_o the_o way_n of_o deliverance_n he_o put_v out_o his_o extraordinary_a affliction_n all_o their_o day_n above_o all_o the_o man_n in_o the_o world_n they_o be_v most_o afflict_v i_o say_v the_o way_n that_o god_n lead_v some_o of_o his_o servant_n to_o heaven_n be_v a_o very_a dark_a and_o narrow_a lane_n and_o they_o see_v more_o affliction_n than_o all_o their_o neighbour_n in_o â—am_n 3_o 1._o well_o say_v the_o prophet_n there_o i_o be_o the_o man_n that_o have_v see_v affliction_n i_o be_o the_o man_n that_o have_v see_v affliction_n that_o be_v no_o great_a matter_n who_o have_v not_o see_v affliction_n be_v that_o such_o a_o matter_n for_o the_o prophet_n to_o complain_v of_o that_o he_o have_v see_v affliction_n ay_o but_o his_o portion_n be_v extraordinary_a he_o have_v see_v more_o than_o all_o other_o in_o his_o time_n and_o therefore_o complain_v as_o if_o he_o alone_o have_v be_v the_o man_n that_o have_v see_v affliction_n well_o when_o affliction_n be_v very_o great_a and_o of_o long_a continuance_n god_n have_v deliver_v they_o some_o other_o way_n can_v not_o god_n rescue_v they_o out_o of_o the_o hand_n of_o affliction_n and_o deliver_v they_o from_o temptation_n and_o make_v they_o conqueror_n over_o their_o lust_n and_o corruption_n but_o must_v he_o shorten_v their_o life_n by_o it_o and_o no_o other_o way_n answ_n why_o belove_v we_o must_v know_v this_o the_o lord_n see_v it_o best_o and_o he_o know_v it_o be_v needful_a for_o they_o to_o come_v to_o he_o in_o this_o narrow_a way_n and_o they_o can_v not_o be_v without_o those_o affliction_n and_o warring_n of_o lust_n and_o without_o those_o temptation_n and_o it_o be_v the_o best_a way_n infinite_a wisdom_n see_v it_o the_o best_a way_n to_o lead_v they_o to_o himself_o and_o to_o glory_n and_o therefore_o when_o the_o case_n be_v thus_o that_o the_o lord_n see_v it_o so_o
needful_a that_o so_o long_o as_o they_o be_v in_o the_o body_n they_o shall_v be_v in_o these_o conflict_n affliction_n and_o temptation_n than_o the_o lord_n sometime_o see_v it_o best_o to_o shorten_v some_o of_o their_o day_n to_o bring_v they_o unto_o himself_o but_o you_o must_v take_v this_o caution_n take_v heed_n you_o do_v limit_v the_o lord_n to_o this_o way_n for_o though_o god_n do_v take_v many_o of_o his_o servant_n this_o way_n by_o death_n yet_o i_o say_v they_o ought_v not_o to_o limit_v the_o holy_a one_o of_o israel_n let_v not_o they_o say_v as_o job_n wherefore_o condition_n the_o lord_n can_v find_v many_o way_n of_o deliverance_n therefore_o do_v say_v you_o lord_n take_v away_o my_o life_n my_o affliction_n be_v great_a i_o see_v no_o way_n how_o i_o shall_v come_v out_o of_o it_o this_o be_v sinful_a for_o god_n have_v many_o way_n i_o say_v god_n choose_v this_o way_n sometime_o to_o free_v his_o people_n from_o all_o their_o corruption_n and_o kedar_n psal_n 120._o 5._o that_o righteous_a soul_n be_v vex_v woe_n be_v i_o etc._n etc._n nay_o the_o lord_n consider_v that_o possible_o his_o own_o people_n may_v be_v carry_v down_o the_o stream_n through_o the_o strength_n and_o violence_n of_o the_o corruption_n of_o the_o time_n that_o they_o may_v be_v draw_v aside_o from_o their_o steadfastness_n it_o be_v possible_a that_o even_o they_o may_v be_v corrupt_v even_a god_n own_o people_n may_v be_v corrupt_v in_o a_o corrupt_a generation_n the_o lord_n consider_v this_o and_o therefore_o many_o time_n he_o take_v they_o away_o in_o a_o abundance_n of_o love_n and_o mercy_n when_o the_o thistle_n and_o nettle_n do_v so_o enclose_v the_o lily_n that_o they_o hinder_v their_o growth_n and_o communicate_v of_o their_o ill_a good_a king_n josiah_n a_o gracious_a man_n be_v cut_v off_o betimes_o because_o the_o lord_n be_v about_o to_o bring_v desolation_n upon_o judah_n a_o great_a and_o fearful_a captivity_n which_o come_v present_o after_o when_o he_o be_v go_v but_o he_o fear_v the_o lord_n and_o be_v fearful_a when_o the_o word_n of_o the_o lord_n come_v to_o he_o and_o therefore_o god_n take_v he_o that_o he_o may_v not_o see_v that_o desolation_n with_o his_o eye_n that_o sad_a desolation_n that_o god_n will_v bring_v upon_o judah_n and_o so_o say_v the_o prophet_n isa_n 57_o 1._o he_o give_v this_o as_o a_o reason_n why_o god_n take_v away_o some_o of_o his_o servant_n betimes_o the_o righteous_a perish_v and_o no_o man_n lay_v it_o to_o heart_n and_o the_o merciful_a man_n be_v take_v away_o none_o consider_v that_o the_o righteous_a be_v take_v away_o from_o the_o evil_a to_o come_v when_o evil_a and_o desolation_n be_v about_o to_o come_v upon_o a_o place_n or_o a_o kingdom_n why_o then_o god_n take_v away_o many_o righteous_a and_o merciful_a man_n the_o husbandman_n when_o he_o see_v a_o storm_n be_v a_o come_n he_o make_v haste_n to_o gather_v in_o his_o corn_n especial_o that_o which_o be_v most_o ready_a to_o shake_v that_o which_o be_v most_o like_a to_o take_v harm_n by_o the_o wet_a that_o he_o will_v in_o withal_o and_o thus_o the_o lord_n do_v with_o he_o when_o he_o see_v great_a desolation_n that_o may_v even_o shake_v those_o that_o be_v his_o own_o 4._o four_o god_n take_v way_n some_o of_o his_o servant_n that_o he_o may_v prevent_v their_o uneven_a walk_n and_o their_o decline_a and_o turn_v aside_o from_o he_o the_o lord_n love_v to_o take_v his_o servant_n when_o they_o be_v at_o the_o best_a he_o pull_v the_o rose_n when_o it_o be_v most_o and_o slay_v he_o but_o he_o that_o will_v lose_v his_o life_n shall_v save_v it_o he_o remember_v the_o three_o child_n speak_v of_o in_o daniel_n they_o lose_v nothing_o by_o their_o bold_a profession_n they_o be_v willing_a to_o lose_v their_o life_n and_o so_o they_o save_v their_o life_n and_o thus_o do_v they_o and_o so_o do_v enoch_n 2._o second_o it_o do_v teach_v we_o how_o much_o god_n be_v delight_v with_o the_o faith_n of_o his_o people_n enoch_n live_v by_o faith_n in_o a_o special_a manner_n and_o how_o be_v the_o heart_n of_o god_n take_v with_o enoch_n he_o be_v well_o please_v unto_o god_n so_o well_o please_v that_o god_n can_v not_o long_o be_v without_o he_o put_v forth_o his_o hand_n and_o take_v he_o up_o to_o himself_o oh_o how_o great_o be_v the_o heart_n heart_n be_v persuade_v by_o god_n to_o believe_v such_o a_o particular_a mercy_n
be_v empty_a and_o vain_a for_o it_o prove_v many_o time_n a_o burden_n even_a vanity_n life_n itself_o which_o be_v the_o most_o excellent_a thing_n in_o nature_n it_o prove_v a_o burden_n if_o you_o declare_v the_o vanity_n of_o it_o and_o so_o many_o time_n it_o be_v so_o to_o the_o wicked_a and_o to_o the_o godly_a life_n be_v a_o burden_n to_o the_o wicked_a there_o be_v a_o principle_n in_o nature_n in_o a_o man_n to_o live_v to_o desire_v to_o live_v to_o live_v always_o and_o yet_o man_n many_o time_n be_v weary_a to_o live_v the_o wicked_a man_n will_v live_v long_o and_o yet_o his_o life_n be_v a_o burden_n he_o will_v live_v long_o he_o never_o die_v willing_o though_o sometime_o he_o be_v the_o instrument_n of_o his_o own_o destruction_n he_o die_v not_o willing_o it_o be_v say_v of_o the_o wicked_a man_n that_o be_v shall_v not_o live_v out_o half_a his_o day_n why_o though_o they_o may_v live_v long_o than_o the_o righteous_a though_o he_o live_v a_o hundred_o year_n yet_o he_o may_v not_o live_v out_o half_a his_o day_n he_o desire_v to_o live_v long_o and_o yet_o life_n be_v a_o burden_n to_o he_o here_o be_v a_o vanity_n especial_o when_o the_o lord_n shall_v break_v in_o upon_o his_o soul_n with_o apprehension_n of_o wrath_n and_o when_o he_o meet_v with_o vexation_n and_o disquietment_n from_o the_o world_n many_o time_n he_o speak_v against_o his_o life_n and_o act_n against_o his_o life_n which_o be_v a_o great_a sin_n here_o be_v a_o vanity_n nay_o natural_a life_n be_v a_o burden_n many_o time_n to_o god_n own_o people_n you_o may_v see_v how_o it_o come_v short_a of_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n though_o it_o be_v the_o most_o excellent_a thing_n in_o nature_n yet_o it_o be_v a_o burden_n to_o the_o saint_n the_o corruption_n that_o be_v within_o their_o own_o heart_n which_o do_v follow_v they_o all_o the_o time_n of_o life_n make_v life_n a_o burden_n o_o miserable_a man_n that_o i_o be_o who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o from_o this_o body_n of_o sin_n and_o death_n the_o working_n of_o corruption_n have_v make_v his_o very_a life_n a_o burden_n to_o he_o who_o shall_v deliver_v he_o from_o it_o and_o so_o through_o the_o temptation_n of_o satan_n the_o life_n be_v make_v burdensome_a through_o the_o evil_a of_o the_o time_n through_o the_o dishonour_n that_o be_v bring_v to_o god_n in_o the_o world_n whilst_o they_o look_v upon_o it_o their_o life_n be_v make_v a_o burden_n to_o they_o lot_n righteous_a soul_n be_v vex_v his_o life_n be_v a_o burden_n to_o he_o though_o they_o dare_v not_o think_v against_o their_o life_n and_o act_n against_o their_o life_n yet_o many_o time_n life_n be_v a_o burden_n to_o god_n own_o people_n not_o but_o that_o they_o be_v willing_a to_o bear_v their_o burden_n whilst_o god_n be_v please_v to_o let_v they_o live_v here_o but_o now_o turn_v your_o eye_n to_o christ_n life_n and_o you_o shall_v see_v the_o life_n of_o christ_n be_v full_a of_o satisfaction_n full_a of_o contentment_n it_o be_v full_a of_o satisfaction_n you_o do_v say_v of_o that_o as_o sometime_o job_n say_v of_o his_o life_n you_o may_v see_v in_o job_n 7._o 15_o 16._o he_o be_v under_o sore_a temptation_n and_o in_o great_a affliction_n i_o loathe_v it_o i_o will_v not_o live_v always_o why_o job_n never_o say_v so_o of_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n he_o never_o say_v of_o that_o i_o loathe_v it_o i_o will_v not_o live_v always_o no_o on_o the_o contrary_a a_o gracious_a heart_n say_v thus_o i_o love_v it_o i_o delight_v in_o it_o i_o will_v live_v always_o let_v i_o live_v to_o eternity_n to_o lift_v up_o the_o name_n of_o god_n to_o behold_v his_o glory_n to_o wait_v at_o his_o footstool_n to_o extol_v his_o glorious_a name_n for_o ever_o and_o ever_o thus_o you_o see_v how_o contrary_a the_o life_n of_o christ_n be_v unto_o the_o life_n of_o nature_n in_o respect_n of_o the_o vanity_n of_o it_o 2._o but_o again_o second_o the_o life_n of_o nature_n be_v a_o sinful_a the_o root_n of_o the_o tree_n gnaw_v at_o the_o root_n of_o our_o tree_n that_o as_o soon_o as_o ever_o we_o spring_v above_o ground_n our_o nature_n decrease_v continual_o but_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n be_v a_o increase_a life_n there_o be_v a_o period_n beyond_o which_o a_o christian_a shall_v not_o grow_v he_o do_v not_o come_v to_o his_o height_n and_o then_o go_v downward_o there_o be_v no_o period_n in_o his_o growth_n so_o long_o as_o he_o be_v on_o this_o side_n heaven_n there_o be_v no_o old_a age_n in_o which_o his_o life_n decrease_v it_o be_v true_a the_o operation_n of_o life_n may_v be_v destroy_v in_o a_o christian_a but_o the_o principle_n of_o life_n increase_v continual_o and_o therefore_o the_o promise_n be_v make_v that_o they_o shall_v be_v as_o tree_n which_o bring_v forth_o fruit_n in_o old_a age_n and_o that_o they_o shall_v grow_v from_o strength_n to_o strength_n until_o they_o come_v to_o appear_v before_o he_o in_o zion_n and_o thus_o in_o the_o strength_n of_o christ_n they_o shall_v go_v from_o strength_n to_o strength_n which_o be_v far_o more_o excellent_a than_o the_o life_n of_o nature_n 5._o but_o again_o five_o the_o life_n of_o nature_n be_v a_o uncertain_a life_n there_o be_v no_o man_n have_v any_o lease_n of_o life_n but_o our_o time_n be_v in_o the_o lord_n hand_n and_o there_o be_v no_o man_n live_v have_v certainty_n of_o life_n for_o a_o moment_n it_o be_v true_a the_o fool_n in_o the_o gospel_n make_v large_a promise_n and_o make_v a_o large_a lease_n to_o himself_o of_o that_o which_o be_v not_o his_o own_o he_o will_v lease_v our_o life_n for_o
hear_v before_o it_o cost_v christ_n dear_a that_o life_n which_o he_o communicate_v to_o his_o people_n it_o cost_v he_o his_o blood_n it_o be_v not_o purchase_v without_o the_o lay_n down_o of_o his_o life_n and_o therefore_o take_v heed_n that_o you_o do_v not_o act_v against_o he_o let_v christian_n take_v heed_n that_o they_o do_v not_o neglect_v communion_n with_o god_n neglect_v of_o communion_n and_o slight_v of_o communion_n be_v a_o act_n against_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n in_o they_o for_o why_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n come_v in_o that_o way_n it_o be_v maintain_v by_o the_o soul_n converse_v with_o god_n and_o therefore_o when_o a_o man_n turn_v his_o eye_n so_o from_o god_n when_o he_o be_v look_v downward_o continual_o pore_v upon_o the_o thing_n of_o this_o world_n neglect_v the_o thing_n of_o eternity_n and_o do_v not_o eye_n god_n and_o do_v not_o converse_v with_o god_n in_o all_o ordinance_n and_o duty_n why_o this_o be_v a_o obstruct_n of_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n in_o you_o again_o take_v heed_n of_o give_v way_n to_o any_o vanity_n take_v heed_n of_o make_v bond_n with_o sin_n that_o you_o do_v not_o step_v out_o from_o god_n in_o the_o least_o it_o be_v destructive_a to_o the_o operation_n of_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n sin_n weaken_v the_o inward_a man_n as_o sickness_n and_o disease_n do_v the_o body_n take_v away_o the_o natural_a strength_n that_o a_o man_n can_v act_v with_o that_o strength_n as_o before_o so_o it_o be_v with_o sin_n when_o the_o soul_n give_v way_n to_o lust_n and_o corruption_n whatever_o they_o be_v he_o weaken_v his_o own_o strength_n he_o entertain_v fellowship_n with_o that_o which_o be_v a_o enemy_n to_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n in_o he_o and_o then_o take_v heed_n of_o give_v way_n to_o sinful_a passion_n and_o unbelief_n and_o dejection_n of_o spirit_n for_o these_o also_o be_v great_a enemy_n to_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n i_o say_v dejection_n of_o spirit_n be_v a_o enemy_n to_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n as_o well_o as_o to_o the_o life_n of_o nature_n therefore_o reason_n with_o your_o passion_n as_o sometime_o david_n do_v why_o be_v thou_o cast_v down_o o_o my_o heed_n i_o say_v in_o any_o case_n that_o they_o do_v not_o that_o which_o may_v be_v a_o obstruction_n to_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n to_o the_o act_n and_o to_o the_o motion_n of_o the_o life_n all_o their_o misery_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o all_o their_o corruption_n and_o enemy_n that_o they_o be_v compass_v about_o with_o here_o in_o the_o world_n here_o be_v a_o hide_a ground_n of_o consolation_n there_o be_v a_o principle_n of_o life_n in_o they_o christ_n be_v their_o principle_n of_o life_n and_o such_o a_o principle_n as_o shall_v never_o decay_v in_o they_o they_o have_v such_o a_o life_n as_o endure_v for_o ever_o why_o it_o be_v comfort_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o all_o the_o want_n of_o outward_a necessary_n if_o christian_n want_n they_o have_v a_o more_o excellent_a life_n than_o creature_n and_o if_o creature_n say_v natural_a life_n be_v better_a than_o raiment_n then_o how_o much_o more_o may_v it_o be_v say_v of_o spiritual_a life_n that_o it_o be_v better_a than_o food_n and_o raiment_n and_o all_o outward_a thing_n below_o and_o so_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o all_o affliction_n that_o do_v lie_v upon_o god_n people_n at_o any_o time_n they_o may_v comfort_v themselves_o with_o that_o hide_a life_n that_o be_v within_o they_o though_o the_o world_n see_v not_o the_o world_n take_v no_o notice_n of_o it_o the_o lord_n look_v upon_o they_o as_o excellent_a because_o of_o that_o life_n that_o be_v within_o they_o yea_o even_o death_n itself_o the_o people_n of_o god_n may_v comfort_v themselves_o as_o job_n do_v in_o the_o thought_n of_o death_n in_o the_o apprehension_n of_o death_n though_o it_o seem_v never_o so_o terrible_a they_o have_v a_o live_a saviour_n they_o who_o have_v interest_n in_o christ_n he_o be_v a_o principle_n make_v he_o deny_v christ_n and_o his_o truth_n many_o time_n as_o peter_n do_v when_o he_o be_v press_v with_o this_o fear_n and_o therefore_o to_o say_v no_o more_o as_o you_o desire_v to_o have_v irrecoverable_a there_o be_v no_o hope_n of_o any_o future_a trade_n for_o you_o venture_v once_o for_o all_o sore_o it_o be_v for_o ever_o and_o herefore_o i_o beseech_v you_o consider_v what_o need_v you_o have_v of_o look_v to_o this_o venture_n and_o to_o get_v assurance_n that_o it_o shall_v be_v make_v a_o gainful_a venture_n to_o you_o but_o you_o will_v say_v what_o direction_n will_v you_o give_v we_o that_o we_o may_v have_v assurance_n of_o gain_n in_o this_o venture_n i_o shall_v speak_v but_o one_o word_n to_o you_o seek_v after_o a_o interest_n in_o christ_n get_v christ_n shall_v be_v gain_n know_v that_o there_o be_v none_o can_v give_v you_o assurance_n but_o only_a christ_n there_o be_v none_o can_v assure_v the_o commodity_n that_o you_o ship_n for_o eternity_n sit_v in_o the_o insure_a office_n and_o he_o only_o can_v give_v you_o assurance_n that_o death_n shall_v be_v gain_n and_o therefore_o go_v and_o wait_v upon_o the_o lord_n for_o the_o promise_n of_o christ_n christ_n be_v make_v over_o to_o poor_a sinner_n in_o the_o promise_n of_o free_a grace_n and_o when_o christ_n be_v give_v all_o other_o promise_n be_v give_v with_o he_o and_o if_o christ_n be_v give_v with_o they_o than_o this_o promise_n be_v true_a that_o death_n shall_v be_v make_v gain_n to_o you_o go_v and_o wait_v at_o the_o footstool_n of_o grace_n and_o say_v lord_n give_v out_o one_o word_n one_o promise_n and_o that_o shall_v be_v my_o assurance_n for_o my_o venture_n for_o eternity_n do_v not_o rest_v till_o you_o get_v christ_n into_o the_o ship_n till_o act_v legal_o in_o their_o spirit_n i_o say_v though_o they_o be_v under_o a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n yet_o if_o they_o act_v legal_o in_o their_o service_n not_o clear_o understand_v the_o covenant_n they_o be_v under_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a that_o they_o shall_v meet_v with_o perfect_a peace_n or_o be_v strengthen_v to_o this_o venture_n of_o death_n with_o freedom_n of_o soul_n without_o abundance_n of_o fear_n thou_o will_v keep_v he_o in_o perfect_a peace_n who_o mind_n be_v stay_v on_o thou_o isai_n 6._o 3._o because_o he_o trust_v in_o thou_o when_o the_o soul_n trust_v only_o in_o god_n when_o it_o rest_v only_o in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n as_o a_o foundation_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n than_o it_o rest_v in_o peace_n but_o when_o the_o soul_n do_v act_v
