parent_n do_v and_o he_o be_v according_a to_o scripture_n which_o tell_v we_o that_o circumcision_n receive_v in_o baptism_n may_v become_v by_o his_o own_o fault_n be_v adult_n no_o circumcision_n rom._n 2.25_o those_o text_n in_o rom._n 11.16_o 1_o cor._n 7.14_o gen._n 17.7_o be_v not_o applicable_a to_o the_o adult_a person_n in_o question_n but_o only_o to_o infant_n and_o child_n in_o minority_n propos_fw-fr 6._o such_o church-member_n who_o either_o by_o death_n or_o some_o other_o extraordinary_a providence_n have_v be_v inevitable_o hinder_v from_o public_a act_n as_o aforesaid_a yet_o have_v give_v the_o church_n cause_n in_o judgement_n of_o charity_n to_o look_v at_o they_o as_o so_o qualify_v and_o such_o as_o have_v they_o be_v call_v thereunto_o will_v so_o have_v act_v their_o child_n be_v to_o be_v baptize_v reply_n this_o proposition_n may_v not_o be_v grant_v for_o 1._o it_o grant_v the_o privilege_n of_o church-membership_a to_o such_o as_o be_v not_o actual_o and_o regular_o church-member_n which_o be_v contrary_a to_o christ_n ordinance_n whereby_o baptism_n be_v a_o public_a church-ordinance_n be_v due_a only_a to_o they_o who_o have_v a_o public_a state_n and_o interest_n such_o be_v only_o the_o member_n of_o the_o public_a ecclesiastical_a body_n the_o church_n hence_o 1._o a_o ordinary_a minister_n can_v orderly_o perform_v a_o act_n proper_a to_o his_o office_n in_o reference_n to_o church-communion_n to_o any_o that_o be_v not_o regular_o and_o actual_o member_n of_o the_o visible_a church_n without_o great_a usurpation_n as_o if_o a_o man_n do_v a_o work_v proper_a to_o magistracy_n to_o one_o that_o be_v not_o under_o his_o magistratical_a power_n he_o be_v a_o usurper_n so_o it_o be_v in_o this_o case_n of_o a_o minister_n to_o administer_v baptism_n be_v a_o act_n of_o his_o office-power_n if_o he_o administer_v baptism_n to_o child_n who_o parent_n be_v not_o regular_o in_o church-order_n in_o so_o do_v why_o may_v not_o the_o lord_n say_v he_o be_v a_o usurper_n suppose_v a_o unbaptised_a person_n profess_v his_o faith_n and_o qualify_v according_a to_o the_o description_n in_o the_o six_o proposition_n yet_o defer_v for_o some_o probable_a cause_n to_o adjoyn_v himself_o to_o the_o church_n for_o the_o present_a shall_v desire_v baptism_n of_o any_o of_o these_o minister_n who_o frame_v this_o proposition_n shall_v they_o administer_v it_o to_o he_o and_o so_o do_v a_o proper_a work_n of_o their_o office_n upon_o he_o if_o yea_o if_o they_o admit_v he_o to_o baptism_n why_o not_o to_o the_o lord_n
if_o not_o it_o be_v needful_a that_o it_o shall_v be_v declare_v that_o all_o may_v know_v where_o to_o stop_v and_o to_o understand_v that_o this_o privilege_n be_v not_o to_o exceed_v the_o three_o generation_n again_o if_o not_o it_o be_v strange_a that_o a_o child_n shall_v be_v beget_v or_o bear_v of_o a_o member_n and_o yet_o itself_o be_v no_o member_n or_o if_o a_o member_n have_v no_o right_n to_o baptism_n 2._o if_o so_o it_o may_v be_v demand_v by_o what_o right_a or_o where_o be_v the_o ground_n of_o their_o right_n to_o baptism_n not_o in_o the_o grandfather_n or_o great-grandfather_n that_o be_v general_o dislike_v and_o the_o second_o proposition_n do_v limit_v it_o otherwise_o but_o in_o the_o immediate_a parent_n i_o suppose_v but_o how_o be_v the_o right_n of_o these_o child_n baptism_n found_v upon_o he_o not_o upon_o his_o personal_a confederate_n for_o it_o be_v suppose_v there_o be_v none_o nor_o upon_o his_o own_v the_o covenant_n of_o his_o father_n for_o his_o father_n make_v no_o covenant_n he_o do_v only_o own_o the_o covenant_n of_o his_o parent_n and_o that_o give_v the_o right_n of_o baptism_n to_o his_o child_n as_o be_v hold_v forth_o in_o the_o five_o proposition_n it_o remain_v therefore_o that_o this_o parent_n of_o the_o three_o generation_n do_v own_o what_o his_o parent_n of_o the_o second_o generation_n he_o can_v go_v no_o high_a have_v do_v and_o what_o be_v that_o he_o enter_v not_o into_o covenant_n but_o only_o own_v the_o covenant_n that_o his_o father_n enter_v into_o and_o thus_o these_o last_o child_n who_o be_v of_o the_o four_o generation_n do_v come_v to_o have_v right_a to_o baptism_n not_o by_o their_o parent_n confederation_n as_o the_o second_o sort_n mention_v in_o the_o second_o proposition_n nor_o by_o their_o parent_n own_v their_o father_n covenant_n as_o the_o three_o sort_n speak_v of_o in_o the_o five_o proposition_n but_o by_o these_o parent_n of_o the_o three_o generation_n own_v their_o parent_n of_o the_o second_o generation_n own_v the_o covenant_n of_o their_o father_n of_o the_o first_o this_o seem_v to_o be_v a_o uncouth_a way_n and_o very_o unpleasant_a divinity_n vii_o the_o six_o proposition_n i_o look_v at_o as_o a_o exception_n to_o the_o five_o otherwise_o it_o be_v cross_v unto_o it_o and_o against_o it_o to_o this_o i_o say_v 1._o if_o there_o be_v any_o weight_n in_o the_o argument_n use_v under_o the_o six_o consideration_n against_o the_o baptise_v of_o child_n to_o who_o the_o five_o proposition_n do_v allow_v baptism_n then_o they_o be_v likewise_o of_o force_n against_o the_o baptise_v of_o child_n mention_v in_o this_o six_o proposition_n 2._o i_o can_v but_o take_v notice_n of_o the_o several_a sort_n of_o membership_n all_o give_v right_o to_o baptism_n two_o in_o the_o second_o proposition_n a_o three_o in_o the_o five_o a_o four_o in_o the_o six_o and_o if_o membership_n without_o personal_a confederation_n by_o the_o seed_n of_o confederate_a visible_a believer_n do_v not_o end_n in_o the_o three_o generation_n than_o there_o be_v a_o five_o and_o a_o six_o sort_n of_o membership_n and_o all_o these_o be_v differ_v one_o from_o the_o other_o the_o two_o first_o be_v of_o god_n and_o according_a to_o his_o word_n the_o rest_n be_v not_o viii_o the_o last_o proposition_n seem_v to_o open_v a_o very_a wide_a gate_n in_o the_o church_n wide_a than_o god_n do_v allow_v isa_n 26.2_o for_o though_o it_o require_v qualification_n in_o such_o member_n who_o claim_v right_a to_o baptism_n for_o their_o child_n in_o other_o church_n by_o virtue_n of_o church-communion_n yet_o it_o be_v altogether_o silent_a of_o the_o qualification_n of_o such_o church_n themselves_o only_o they_o must_v be_v orthodox_n that_o respect_v the_o doctrine_n of_o faith_n alone_o there_o be_v much_o more_o to_o be_v attend_v a_o church_n may_v be_v orthodox_n in_o matter_n of_o faith_n yet_o scandalous_a in_o practice_n a_o whole_a church_n may_v be_v under_o scandal_n as_o well_o as_o a_o particular_a person_n and_o in_o that_o case_n another_o church_n may_v withdraw_v from_o it_o and_o have_v no_o communion_n either_o with_o it_o or_o its_o member_n and_o this_o be_v not_o long_o since_o the_o judgement_n and_o practice_n of_o some_o of_o the_o chief_a church_n and_o elder_n in_o the_o bay_n again_o a_o church_n may_v believe_v the_o main_a article_n of_o faith_n yet_o be_v so_o defective_a in_o discipline_n yea_o so_o opposite_a to_o christ_n government_n as_o to_o lay_v aside_o his_o law_n and_o institution_n and_o set_v up_o the_o invention_n and_o tradition_n of_o man_n and_o likewise_o may_v have_v such_o a_o corrupt_a constitution_n both_o in_o regard_n of_o matter_n open_v scandalous_a liver_n and_o likewise_o of_o form_n no_o visible_a express_a covenant_n according_a to_o the_o rule_n of_o the_o gospel_n that_o there_o can_v be_v no_o such_o communion_n hold_v and_o maintain_v with_o such_o a_o church_n or_o her_o member_n hold_v communion_n with_o it_o as_o be_v express_v in_o this_o seven_o proposition_n without_o manifest_a disobedience_n to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n in_o these_o and_o many_o other_o place_n rev._n 18.4_o 2_o cor._n 6.17_o eph._n 5.11_o if_o the_o member_n of_o orthodox_n church_n may_v upon_o the_o term_n express_v in_o the_o seven_o proposition_n claim_v baptism_n for_o their_o child_n in_o our_o church_n by_o virtue_n of_o church-communion_n than_o themselves_o have_v right_a to_o communicate_v with_o we_o in_o the_o lord_n supper_n and_o then_o what_o shall_v hinder_v but_o that_o we_o may_v by_o virtue_n of_o church-communion_n occasional_o come_v to_o any_o of_o these_o orthodox_n church_n have_v our_o child_n baptize_v in_o such_o a_o church_n and_o ourselves_o partake_v in_o the_o supper_n of_o the_o lord_n or_o if_o we_o shall_v have_v occasion_n to_o remove_v our_o habitation_n to_o such_o a_o place_n where_o such_o a_o orthodox_n church_n be_v why_o may_v we_o not_o join_v unto_o it_o and_o have_v fellowship_n with_o it_o and_o if_o we_o may_v so_o do_v new-england_n christian_n be_v of_o all_o christian_n in_o the_o world_n most_o miserable_a and_o foolish_a we_o have_v suffer_v many_o thing_n in_o vain_a in_o leave_v such_o a_o country_n for_o this_o our_o estate_n friend_n comfort_n there_o to_o enjoy_v god_n and_o christ_n and_o our_o conscience_n in_o the_o congregational-way_n in_o a_o low_a afflict_a condition_n in_o the_o wilderness_n for_o so_o many_o year_n together_o and_o now_o we_o must_v lose_v those_o thing_n which_o we_o have_v wrought_v and_o may_v return_v to_o our_o former_a state_n when_o we_o please_v which_o the_o
