of_o god_n oh_o that_o we_o be_v but_o apprehensive_a and_o senfible_a of_o the_o unfitnesse_n of_o our_o heart_n to_o come_v into_o god_n presence_n perhaps_o because_o thou_o know_v not_o god_n thou_o can_v rush_v into_o his_o presence_n without_o any_o more_o ado_n but_o if_o thou_o know_v thyself_o and_o god_n thou_o can_v not_o but_o see_v thyself_o altogether_o unfit_a for_o his_o presence_n and_o so_o as_o to_o wonder_v that_o the_o lord_n shall_v not_o spurn_v thou_o out_o of_o his_o presence_n every_o time_n thou_o come_v unto_o he_o there_o have_v need_v then_o be_v name_n this_o you_o be_v all_o convince_v of_o that_o it_o be_v your_o duty_n to_o worship_n god_n when_o you_o pray_v you_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n when_o you_o come_v to_o hear_v his_o word_n you_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o and_o when_o you_o receive_v the_o sacrament_n you_o worship_v he_o now_o if_o i_o shall_v come_v from_o one_o end_n of_o the_o congregation_n to_o the_o other_o and_o ask_v every_o one_o of_o you_o this_o question_n it_o be_v your_o duty_n to_o worship_n god_n be_v it_o not_o yes_o that_o you_o will_v all_o be_v ready_a to_o answer_v and_o what_o do_v you_o do_v when_o you_o worship_n god_n i_o fear_v that_o this_o second_o question_n will_v gravel_n many_o you_o will_v say_v we_o must_v pray_v to_o god_n and_o serve_v he_o and_o hear_v his_o word_n and_o go_v to_o the_o communion●_n yea_o but_o what_o do_v your_o soul_n do_v in_o this_o work_n of_o worship_v of_o god_n this_o shall_v be_v the_o answer_n and_o so_o you_o shall_v think_v with_o that_o respect_n and_o homage_n that_o you_o owe_v to_o the_o infinite_a god_n and_o so_o likewise_o when_o you_o come_v to_o receive_v the_o sacrament_n now_o when_o we_o come_v to_o offer_v a_o present_a to_o man_n we_o know_v how_o we_o prepare_v and_o with_o what_o suitable_a presence_n we_o desire_v to_o offer_v but_o of_o that_o afterward_o when_o we_o come_v to_o speak_v of_o sanctify_a god_n name_v 2_o second_o remember_v when_o i_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n i_o come_v to_o set_v myself_o before_o the_o lord_n in_o those_o way_n that_o god_n do_v let_v out_o the_o choice_n of_o his_o mercy_n to_o his_o people_n in_o i_o have_v many_o mercy_n from_o god_n in_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o the_o creature_n but_o when_o i_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o i_o expect_v the_o communication_n of_o his_o mercy_n in_o another_o way_n then_o through_o any_o creature_n in_o the_o world_n the_o duty_n of_o his_o worship_n be_v the_o chief_a channel_n that_o god_n do_v let_v out_o the_o choice_a of_o his_o mercy_n to_o the_o heart_n of_o his_o people_n through_o and_o now_o i_o be_o go_v to_o worship_n he_o i_o be_o go_v to_o present_v myself_o fore_o god_n indeed_o there_o be_v a_o little_a glimmer_n of_o the_o light_n of_o god_n through_o other_o creature_n to_o i_o but_o the_o glorious_a beam_n of_o the_o light_n of_o god_n be_v through_o the_o duty_n of_o his_o worship_n 3_o and_o then_o three_o i_o be_o now_o go_v to_o act_v my_o soul_n upon_o god_n so_o that_o if_o i_o have_v any_o ability_n to_o close_v with_o god_n to_o act_v my_o soul_n upon_o he_o it_o must_v be_v put_v forth_o now_o at_o this_o time_n i_o be_o indeed_o at_o all_o time_n to_o labour_n to_o enjoy_v communion_n with_o god_n when_o i_o see_v the_o creature_n the_o sun_n and_o moon_n and_o star_n to_o labour_n to_o lift_v up_o my_o heart_n to_o god_n and_o when_o i_o see_v the_o glory_n of_o god_n in_o the_o sea_n and_o for_o my_o meat_n and_o drink_n i_o be_o to_o bless_v god_n and_o to_o acknowledge_v god_n in_o all_o but_o now_o when_o i_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n than_o all_o the_o strength_n of_o my_o soul_n be_v to_o be_v act_v upon_o god_n in_o a_o more_o special_a manner_n i_o must_v then_o above_o all_o labour_n to_o stir_v up_o whatsoever_o i_o have_v in_o my_o soul_n to_o act_v upon_o god_n this_o be_v now_o to_o worship_n god_n second_o 2_o if_o to_o worship_n god_n be_v to_o draw_v nigh_o to_o god_n hence_o we_o see_v the_o reason_n why_o guilty_a conscience_n have_v little_a mind_n to_o the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n when_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n have_v give_v liberty_n to_o any_o licentious_a way_n &_o sin_v against_o their_o conscience_n if_o they_o have_v any_o light_n in_o their_o conscience_n it_o be_v one_o of_o the_o especial_o to_o secret_a prayer_n a_o man_n or_o woman_n that_o have_v a_o enlighten_v conscience_n and_o be_v under_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n the_o come_n to_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n be_v a_o very_a grievous_a burden_n to_o they_o why_o here_o be_v the_o reason_n because_o to_o worship_n god_n be_v to_o draw_v nigh_o to_o god_n and_o the_o guilt_n that_o be_v upon_o they_o have_v make_v the_o presence_n of_o god_n terrible_a to_o they_o and_o therefore_o they_o have_v rather_o go_v into_o their_o company_n &_o be_v merry_a eat_v drink_v sport_n or_o any_o thing_n rather_o than_o to_o come_v into_o god_n presence_n we_o know_v how_o it_o be_v with_o adam_n when_o god_n appear_v in_o the_o garden_n and_o call_v to_o he_o he_o run_v to_o hide_v himself_o why_o because_o he_o have_v guiltiness_n upon_o he_o oh_o the_o evil_a that_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n bring_v upon_o the_o soul_n it_o make_v the_o presence_n of_o god_n terrible_a the_o presence_n of_o god_n it_o shall_v be_v more_o

god_n that_o god_n may_v attain_v the_o glory_n of_o his_o infinite_a excellency_n and_o this_o make_v it_o to_o be_v a_o necessary_a duty_n that_o when_o we_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o we_o shall_v sainct●fie_v his_o name_n so_o that_o the_o first_o reason_n be_v take_v from_o the_o very_a nature_n of_o god_n it_o be_v the_o very_o be_v of_o god_n that_o all_o thing_n shall_v work_v to_o himself_o and_o in_o such_o a_o suitable_a way_n as_o to_o lift_v up_o his_o excellency_n and_o glory_n 2_o second_o we_o must_v sanctify_v god_n in_o the_o duty_n of_o his_o worship_n because_o it_o be_v the_o special_a glory_n that_o god_n have_v in_o the_o world_n to_o be_v active_o honour_v for_o his_o passive_a glory_n that_o be_v to_o be_v glorify_v in_o a_o passive_a way_n that_o he_o have_v in_o hell_n but_o the_o special_a glory_n that_o god_n will_v have_v it_o be_v that_o he_o may_v be_v glorify_v active_o now_o there_o be_v no_o such_o way_n of_o glorify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n active_o as_o by_o worship_v of_o he_o in_o a_o holy_a manner_n and_o therefore_o god_n stand_v much_o upon_o this_o that_o when_o we_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o we_o sanctify_v his_o name_n for_o say_v god_n if_o i_o be_v not_o sanctify_v in_o my_o worship_n what_o active_a glory_n have_v i_o in_o the_o world_n it_o be_v the_o special_a active_a glory_n that_o god_n have_v in_o the_o world_n the_o sanctify_a of_o his_o name_n in_o the_o duty_n of_o his_o worship_n 3_o three_o that_o which_o we_o have_v intimate_v before_o that_o the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n be_v the_o most_o precious_a thing_n the_o special_a conveyance_n of_o the_o choice_a mercy_n that_o he_o intend_v to_o bestow_v on_o his_o saint_n and_o therefore_o though_o he_o lose_v his_o glory_n in_o any_o thing_n else_o he_o will_v not_o lose_v it_o in_o that_o wherein_o he_o do_v especial_o convey_v his_o mercy_n and_o goodness_n to_o his_o people_n but_o that_o we_o speak_v too_o in_o show_v how_o we_o draw_v nigh_o to_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n and_o it_o may_v well_o come_v in_o here_o again_o as_o a_o argument_n why_o we_o shall_v sanctify_v god_n name_n 4_o a_o four_o reason_n be_v this_o because_o there_o be_v no_o way_n for_o we_o to_o be_v fit_v for_o the_o receive_n of_o mercy_n from_o god_n through_o those_o duty_n of_o worship_n but_o by_o our_o sanctify_v of_o god_n name_n when_o thou_o come_v at_o any_o time_n to_o worship_n god_n what_o will_v thou_o have_v there_o be_v some_o communion_n that_o thou_o will_v enjoy_v with_o god_n now_o there_o be_v no_o way_n to_o make_v thou_o a_o fit_a subject_n of_o mercy_n or_o capable_a of_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o communion_n with_o god_n but_o by_o such_o a_o behaviour_n of_o soul_n as_o this_o be_v that_o have_v be_v speak_v of_o to_z sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n thou_o will_v be_v loath_a to_o lose_v those_o duty_n of_o worship_n that_o thou_o do_v perform_v therefore_o it_o be_v require_v of_o thou_o to_o sanctify_v his_o name_n lest_o thou_o do_v lose_v all_o for_o it_o be_v this_o that_o make_v thou_o the_o only_a capable_a subject_n of_o what_o good_a be_v to_o be_v have_v there_o 5_o we_o must_v sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n because_o otherwise_o we_o shall_v certain_o never_o hold_v out_o in_o duty_n but_o vanish_v and_o come_v to_o nothing_o now_o god_n will_v be_v worship_v so_o by_o his_o creature_n as_o to_o be_v constant_o worship_v he_o will_v have_v those_o that_o do_v worship_n he_o to_o worship_v he_o always_o to_o worship_v he_o for_o ever_o and_o he_o will_v have_v this_o worship_n that_o we_o perform_v to_o he_o but_o to_o be_v the_o beginning_n of_o that_o eternal_a worship_n that_o he_o shall_v have_v from_o we_o in_o heaven_n and_o so_o the_o saint_n do_v worship_n god_n now_o the_o worship_n which_o they_o perform_v it_o be_v but_o as_o the_o begin_n of_o that_o worship_n that_o hereafter_o in_o heaven_n they_o shall_v tender_v up_o to_o god_n though_o there_o may_v be_v some_o difference_n in_o it_o as_o there_o our_o prayer_n will_v be_v turn_v into_o praise_n and_o it_o will_v not_o be_v in_o such_o outward_a ordinance_n as_o now_o we_o worship_v god_n in_o there_o will_v be_v no_o preach_v nor_o sacrament_n yet_o notwithstanding_o the_o soul-worship_n that_o be_v now_o will_v be_v in_o effect_v the_o same_o as_o it_o shall_v be_v in_o heaven_n god_n will_v have_v we_o so_o to_o worship_v he_o as_o to_o continue_v to_o worship_v he_o now_o i_o say_v unless_o his_o name_n be_v sanctify_v in_o our_o worship_v of_o he_o we_o will_v certain_o fall_v off_o and_o the_o truth_n be_v this_o be_v the_o very_a ground_n of_o all_o apostasy_n in_o hypocrite_n some_o that_o have_v be_v very_o forward_o in_o the_o worship_v of_o god_n when_o they_o be_v young_a one_o and_o afterward_o they_o have_v fall_v off_o they_o be_v wont_n constant_o in_o their_o family_n and_o in_o secret_a in_o their_o chamber_n to_o be_v worship_v of_o god_n and_o they_o account_v it_o the_o very_a joy_n of_o their_o life_n for_o the_o present_a to_o be_v worship_v of_o god_n but_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o they_o now_o as_o it_o be_v yea_o they_o be_v fall_v off_o it_o may_v be_v from_o their_o very_a profession_n of_o religion_n and_o turn_v lose_v and_o now_o to_o be_v in_o vain_a company_n to_o drink_v or_o play_v be_v better_a to_o they_o then_o any_o service_n or_o worship_n of_o god_n they_o prize_v more_o to_o be_v in_o company_n with_o their_o sport_n then_o to_o hear_v a_o sermon_n or_o to_o be_v in_o communion_n with_o the_o people_n of_o god_n in_o prayer_n heretofore_o they_o will_v not_o have_v change_v one_o short_a time_n of_o private_a communion_n with_o god_n for_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o pleasure_n and_o content_a in_o the_o world_n but_o now_o it_o be_v otherwise_o with_o they_o how_o come_v it_o to_o pass_v that_o these_o be_v apostatise_v thus_o from_o god_n sure_o here_o be_v the_o ground_n of_o it_o that_o they_o do_v not_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n at_o the_o most_o it_o be_v but_o a_o work_n of_o conscience_n that_o put_v they_o upon_o they_o and_o they_o have_v but_o some_o flash_n there_o be_v no_o real_a sanctification_n of_o their_o heart_n whereby_o they_o do_v sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n and_o upon_o this_o it_o be_v that_o they_o have_v leave_v off_o this_o i_o dare_v say_v that_o there_o be_v never_o any_o soul_n that_o do_v know_v what_o it_o be_v to_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o worship_n that_o ever_o be_v weary_a of_o worship_v god_n it_o may_v be_v some_o of_o you_o may_v say_v we_o have_v hear_v that_o there_o be_v much_o require_v in_o sanctify_a god_n name_v in_o duty_n and_o that_o be_v the_o only_a way_n to_o weary_a the_o soul_n and_o to_o make_v it_o fall_v off_o oh_o no_o as_o we_o say_v the_o last_o day_n there_o be_v not_o any_o one_o thing_n that_o have_v be_v open_v for_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n in_o duty_n that_o any_o gracious_a heart_n can_v tell_v how_o to_o miss_v and_o the_o more_o we_o do_v sanctify_v his_o name_n the_o more_o we_o shall_v be_v in_o love_n with_o worship_n for_o it_o be_v from_o hence_o that_o those_o that_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o worship_n will_v hold_v out_o because_o they_o will_v find_v the_o sweetness_n of_o worship_n they_o will_v meet_v with_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n and_o so_o they_o come_v to_o be_v encourage_v in_o worship_n but_o as_o for_o other_o who_o do_v worship_n god_n in_o a_o formal_a way_n their_o worship_n will_v prove_v to_o be_v tedious_a to_o they_o for_o they_o perform_v the_o duty_n but_o do_v not_o find_v god_n in_o the_o duty_n in_o that_o spiritual_a way_n as_o the_o saint_n do_v if_o they_o think_v they_o meet_v with_o god_n it_o be_v but_o a_o imagination_n rather_o than_o any_o real_a meeting_n with_o he_o they_o do_v not_o find_v the_o influence_n of_o god_n in_o their_o soul_n in_o holy_a duty_n so_o as_o those_o do_v that_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n here_o than_o you_o see_v the_o reason_n why_o we_o be_v to_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n now_o then_o for_o the_o application_n of_o all_o this_o 1_o if_o all_o this_o which_o you_o have_v hear_v be_v require_v of_o we_o for_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n hence_o we_o see_v how_o little_a cause_n we_o have_v to_o rest_v upon_o any_o duty_n of_o worship_n that_o we_o do_v perform_v certain_o the_o duty_n of_o worship_n that_o we_o perform_v be_v no_o such_o thing_n as_o be_v fit_a to_o be_v rest_v upon_o for_o life_n and_o for_o

that_o if_o god_n shall_v speak_v to_o they_o as_o he_o speak_v unto_o solomon_n and_o bid_v he_o ask_v what_o he_o shall_v give_v he_o i_o very_o believe_v there_o be_v many_o in_o this_o congregation_n that_o have_v already_o good_a assurance_n of_o god_n love_n in_o christ_n if_o they_o have_v not_o that_o that_o will_v be_v the_o main_a thing_n that_o they_o will_v ask_v but_o have_v attain_v that_o if_o god_n will_v speak_v from_o heaven_n and_o say_v what_o shall_v i_o give_v you_o for_o yourselves_o if_o he_o shall_v ask_v you_o in_o the_o general_n it_o may_v be_v you_o will_v ask_v something_o for_o the_o church_n but_o if_o it_o be_v for_o yourselves_o you_o will_v put_v up_o this_o petition_n oh_o lord_n that_o i_o may_v be_v deliver_v from_o a_o wander_a spirit_n in_o holy_a duty_n and_o especial_o in_o the_o duty_n of_o prayer_n that_o i_o may_v thereby_o come_v to_o enjoy_v more_o holy_a communion_n with_o thyself_o then_o ever_o yet_o i_o enjoy_v and_o they_o will_v account_v this_o to_o be_v a_o great_a mercy_n than_o if_o god_n shall_v give_v they_o to_o be_v king_n or_o queen_n over_o the_o whole_a world_n if_o god_n shall_v put_v these_o two_o into_o the_o balance_n either_o the_o whole_a world_n to_o possess_v or_o otherwise_o to_o have_v more_o free_a heart_n in_o come_v to_o god_n in_o prayer_n and_o to_o be_v deliver_v from_o that_o that_o have_v so_o much_o hinder_v their_o communion_n with_o god_n in_o prayer_n they_o will_v despise_v and_o scorn_v the_o world_n in_o comparison_n of_o such_o a_o mercy_n as_o this_o be_v howsoever_o carnal_a heart_n they_o think_v little_a of_o it_o but_o those_o that_o be_v the_o servant_n of_o god_n they_o find_v it_o to_o be_v very_o grievous_a to_o they_o but_o be_v the_o time_n be_v past_a i_o shall_v reserve_v that_o to_o speak_v yet_o a_o little_a more_o large_o for_o the_o help_n of_o those_o that_o be_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o it_o i_o will_v only_o speak_v one_o thing_n further_o now_o and_o that_o shall_v be_v to_o those_o that_o be_v wicked_a and_o vile_a that_o not_o only_o have_v vain_a wander_a thought_n in_o prayer_n but_o even_o in_o the_o very_a duty_n of_o prayer_n many_o time_n have_v wicked_a and_o ungodly_a thought_n how_o horrible_a be_v they_o unclean_a thought_n murderous_a thought_n it_o may_v be_v and_o most_o abominable_a i_o confess_v even_o those_o that_o be_v godly_a may_v sometime_o have_v some_o blasphemous_a thought_n cast_v into_o they_o for_o the_o devil_n be_v never_o more_o busy_a then_o at_o the_o time_n of_o prayer_n but_o they_o rather_o come_v from_o the_o devil_n then_o from_o the_o stream_n and_o corruption_n of_o their_o own_o heart_n which_o may_v be_v we_o may_v make_v out_o more_o clear_o afterward_o but_o now_o i_o speak_v to_o such_o as_o have_v most_o wicked_a abominable_a thought_n rise_v from_o the_o stream_n and_o corruption_n of_o their_o heart_n such_o thought_n as_o their_o heart_n do_v close_o withal_o in_o prayer_n and_o they_o can_v roll_n those_o thought_n about_o in_o their_o mind_n as_o a_o child_n will_v roll_n a_o piece_n of_o sugar_n in_o its_o mouth_n and_o this_o be_v the_o wickedness_n of_o many_o man_n and_o woman_n heart_n take_v but_o this_o one_o note_n with_o you_o that_o all_o those_o dreadful_a vile_a unclean_a covetous_a thought_n of_o thou_o spirit_n and_o the_o spirit_n do_v converse_v with_o god_n in_o thought_n as_o well_o as_o man_n do_v converse_v with_o man_n in_o word_n and_o what_o a_o woeful_a guiltiness_n will_v have_v be_v
