now_o by_o reason_n of_o this_o everlasting_a separation_n of_o they_o from_o all_o union_n and_o communion_n with_o god_n with_o christ_n and_o the_o saint_n they_o shall_v never_o have_v any_o experience_n of_o god_n goodness_n mercy_n and_o love_n towards_o they_o in_o christ_n neither_o shall_v they_o ever_o have_v any_o experience_n of_o the_o saint_n favour_n and_o fellowship_n but_o they_o may_v seek_v and_o pray_v for_o inward_a peace_n of_o conscience_n and_o yet_o not_o obtain_v so_o much_o of_o it_o as_o they_o desire_v but_o in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v they_o shall_v have_v as_o much_o peace_n both_o inward_a and_o outward_a as_o their_o heart_n can_v desire_v and_o that_o for_o ever_o which_o will_v be_v a_o sufficient_a recompense_n for_o their_o want_n of_o in_o this_o world_n shall_v have_v no_o peace_n at_o all_o in_o that_o which_o be_v to_o come_v but_o reprobate_n will_v still_o be_v enemy_n to_o a_o godly_a peace_n in_o this_o world_n psal_n 121._o 6_o 7._o ergo_fw-la they_o shall_v have_v no_o peace_n at_o all_o in_o that_o which_o be_v to_o come_v but_o tribulation_n and_o this_o their_o tribulation_n shall_v be_v a_o total_a privation_n or_o want_v of_o peace_n as_o be_v say_v before_o which_o proposition_n do_v not_o only_o confirm_v what_o have_v be_v former_o affirm_v viz._n that_o it_o have_v use_v be_v good_a for_o reprobate_n if_o they_o have_v never_o be_v bear_v but_o also_o show_v that_o such_o shall_v gain_v nothing_o at_o the_o last_o by_o any_o peace_n of_o they_o in_o this_o world_n indeed_o if_o there_o be_v any_o civil_a or_o national_a peace_n here_o reprobate_n may_v have_v a_o share_n in_o it_o as_o well_o as_o other_o if_o there_o be_v any_o peace_n in_o sin_v they_o be_v wont_v to_o have_v the_o great_a share_n in_o it_o but_o what_o shall_v it_o profit_v they_o when_o at_o last_o their_o peace_n shall_v end_v in_o tribulation_n surely_n nothing_o rather_o than_o they_o shall_v wish_v they_o have_v never_o know_v any_o such_o peace_n wherefore_o if_o we_o will_v provide_v for_o our_o own_o safety_n that_o we_o may_v be_v preserve_v from_o tribulation_n in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v we_o must_v be_v careful_a while_o we_o live_v here_o to_o shun_v and_o decline_v those_o crooked_a path_n of_o unrighteousness_n uncleanness_n impenitency_n hatred_n of_o godly_a peace_n etc._n etc._n which_o be_v wont_a to_o bring_v man_n at_o the_o last_o to_o everlasting_a tribulation_n and_o if_o we_o be_v careful_a thus_o to_o do_v than_o we_o shall_v never_o know_v by_o experience_n in_o ourselves_o any_o want_n of_o peace_n in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v sect_n xix_o touch_v the_o light_n of_o god_n elect_n and_o the_o darkness_n of_o reprobate_n in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v here_o follow_v a_o nine_o special_a difference_n which_o shall_v be_v betwixt_o the_o party_n before_o name_v in_o the_o next_o world_n and_o it_o may_v be_v thus_o express_v in_o two_o proposition_n god_n elect_n shall_v abound_v with_o spiritual_a light_a reprobate_n shall_v be_v punish_v with_o spiritual_a darkness_n in_o the_o next_o world_n the_o former_a proposition_n be_v that_o god_n elect_n proposit_n 1_o proposit_n shall_v abound_v with_o spiritual_a light_n in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v i_o speak_v not_o here_o of_o that_o natural_a and_o bodily_a light_n which_o shall_v be_v suitable_a to_o their_o new_a nature_n in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v of_o which_o doubtless_o they_o shall_v find_v no_o want_n but_o only_o of_o their_o spiritual_a light_n in_o that_o world_n which_o shall_v far_o surpass_v that_o spiritual_a light_n which_o the_o

enemy_n of_o god_n people_n and_o so_o all_o tear_n shall_v be_v wipe_v from_o their_o eye_n and_o their_o heart_n shall_v be_v fill_v with_o joy_n unspeakable_a but_o all_o this_o be_v against_o the_o word_n of_o god_n pointblank_o for_o 1._o the_o word_n show_v that_o the_o latter_a time_n shall_v be_v perilous_a time_n for_o god_n faithful_a people_n 2_o tim._n 3._o 1._o and_o if_o they_o shall_v be_v perilous_a time_n for_o they_o how_o can_v they_o be_v such_o joyful_a time_n for_o they_o as_o these_o man_n speak_v of_o 2._o our_o saviour_n speak_v of_o the_o war_n and_o tumult_n of_o the_o latter_a time_n say_v that_o all_o these_o be_v the_o beginning_n of_o sorrow_n mat._n 24._o 8._o and_o if_o the_o war_n of_o the_o latter_a time_n shall_v be_v the_o beginning_n of_o sorrow_n how_o can_v they_o be_v occasion_n of_o so_o much_o joy_n as_o these_o speak_v of_o 3._o the_o word_n show_v that_o the_o war_n of_o the_o latter_a time_n shall_v be_v increase_v about_o the_o time_n of_o christ_n second_o come_v rev._n 20._o 9_o and_o if_o so_o how_o can_v or_o shall_v they_o produce_v such_o joyful_a time_n in_o this_o world_n as_o these_o man_n expect_v 4._o i_o have_v show_v before_o that_o that_o fullness_n of_o joy_n and_o gladness_n which_o be_v promise_v in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n appertain_v not_o to_o this_o world_n but_o to_o that_o which_o be_v to_o come_v wherefore_o we_o shall_v not_o harken_v to_o these_o filthy_a dreamer_n because_o we_o find_v by_o experience_n that_o their_o dream_n be_v deceitful_a for_o while_o they_o dream_v of_o much_o light_n behold_v much_o darkness_n that_o may_v be_v feel_v and_o while_o they_o dream_v of_o much_o joy_n behold_v much_o sorrow_n and_o vexation_n of_o spirit_n second_o it_o may_v inform_v we_o that_o god_n elect_n shall_v be_v well_o reward_v at_o the_o last_o for_o all_o their_o godly_a sorrow_n in_o this_o life_n indeed_o while_o they_o live_v here_o they_o be_v wont_v to_o be_v in_o heaviness_n through_o manifold_a temptation_n while_o they_o live_v here_o they_o be_v wont_v to_o mourn_v much_o after_o a_o godly_a sort_n for_o their_o own_o sin_n for_o the_o sin_n of_o other_o for_o the_o affliction_n and_o suffering_n of_o christ_n for_o the_o affliction_n of_o their_o brethren_n and_o for_o all_o the_o fruit_n and_o effect_n of_o god_n displeasure_n but_o in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v all_o this_o sorrow_n of_o they_o shall_v be_v turn_v into_o gladness_n they_o shall_v have_v beauty_n for_o ash_n the_o oil_n of_o joy_n for_o mourning_n the_o garment_n of_o praise_n for_o the_o spirit_n of_o heaviness_n isaiah_n 61._o 3._o and_o as_o this_o sorrow_n of_o they_o shall_v more_o or_o less_o abound_v in_o this_o world_n so_o shall_v their_o godly_a joy_n more_o or_o less_o abound_v in_o that_o which_o be_v to_o come_v which_o will_v be_v a_o sufficient_a recompense_n for_o all_o their_o good_a sorrow_n and_o be_v still_o promise_v as_o a_o recompense_n thereof_o in_o divers_a place_n before_o mention_v wherefore_o if_o we_o desire_v to_o abound_v with_o joy_n in_o that_o world_n which_o be_v to_o come_v we_o must_v be_v content_v while_o we_o live_v here_o to_o sow_v in_o tear_n of_o godly_a sorrow_n and_o if_o we_o sow_v plentiful_o in_o this_o way_n we_o shall_v reap_v plentiful_o according_a to_o god_n promise_n as_o the_o proposition_n be_v that_o reprobate_n shall_v proposit_n 2_o proposit_n abound_v with_o sorrow_n in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v which_o sorrow_n of_o they_o though_o it_o shall_v be_v such_o as_o no_o come_v both_o in_o soul_n &_o body_n shall_v abound_v with_o sorrow_n in_o that_o world_n now_o reprobate_n shall_v be_v everlasting_o torment_v in_o the_o next_o world_n both_o in_o soul_n and_o body_n their_o soul-torment_n shall_v be_v such_o as_o have_v not_o be_v feel_v nor_o experience_v in_o this_o life_n and_o their_o bodily-torment_n shall_v be_v such_o as_o have_v never_o be_v experience_v in_o this_o life_n therefore_o doubtless_o they_o shall_v abound_v with_o sorrow_n and_o grief_n in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v and_o this_o latter_a proposition_n may_v inform_v we_o that_o use_v such_o wicked_a person_n as_o shall_v be_v find_v reprobate_n at_o the_o last_o shall_v gain_v nothing_o

in_o the_o issue_n by_o all_o their_o mirth_n and_o jollity_n in_o this_o world_n here_o indeed_o they_o may_v seem_v to_o be_v the_o only_a merry_a companion_n here_o they_o be_v wont_v to_o spend_v much_o of_o their_o time_n in_o pleasure_n they_o call_v for_o the_o vial_n the_o harp_n and_o the_o merry_a lute_n in_o their_o feast_n and_o say_v to_o morrow_n shall_v be_v as_o this_o day_n and_o much_o more_o vile_a and_o in_o their_o merry_a meeting_n they_o be_v wont_v to_o cry_v down_o the_o spirit_n of_o mourning_n and_o to_o say_v hang_v up_o sorrow_n for_o what_o serve_v it_o let_v we_o eat_v drink_v and_o be_v merry_a let_v we_o rejoice_v in_o our_o youth_n let_v our_o heart_n cheer_v we_o in_o the_o day_n of_o our_o youth_n let_v we_o walk_v in_o the_o way_n of_o our_o heart_n etc._n etc._n but_o suppose_v any_o of_o these_o mirth-monger_n shall_v happen_v to_o die_v in_o the_o guilt_n of_o their_o sin_n without_o repentance_n and_o without_o a_o pardon_n and_o so_o shall_v be_v find_v reprobate_n at_o the_o last_o what_o then_o shall_v all_o their_o mirth_n profit_v they_o surely_n nothing_o at_o all_o but_o then_o they_o shall_v find_v that_o it_o have_v be_v good_a for_o they_o if_o they_o have_v never_o be_v bear_v then_o they_o shall_v find_v that_o all_o their_o mirth_n and_o jollity_n shall_v be_v turn_v into_o sorrow_n and_o heaviness_n into_o weep_v and_o mistake_v for_o it_o have_v be_v show_v before_o that_o the_o blessing_n of_o perfect_a security_n be_v not_o to_o be_v enjoy_v in_o this_o world_n but_o only_o in_o that_o which_o be_v to_o come_v and_o how_o can_v we_o expect_v such_o a_o blessing_n in_o this_o world_n see_v it_o be_v well_o know_v that_o as_o long_o as_o we_o live_v here_o we_o be_v still_o under_o a_o possibility_n of_o sin_v and_o under_o a_o possibility_n of_o suffer_v for_o sin_n and_o can_v we_o be_v free_a or_o safe_a from_o the_o fear_n of_o evil_a as_o long_o as_o we_o be_v in_o such_o a_o condition_n sure_o no_o because_o every_o know_a act_n of_o sin_n beget_v in_o man_n the_o fear_n of_o punishment_n and_o every_o punishment_n for_o sin_n beget_v the_o fear_n of_o another_o punishment_n away_o then_o with_o this_o conceit_n again_o if_o god_n elect_n shall_v dwell_v secure_o from_o all_o fear_n of_o evil_a in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v than_o this_o may_v inform_v we_o that_o it_o be_v a_o great_a favour_n and_o mercy_n of_o god_n for_o any_o to_o be_v of_o the_o number_n of_o his_o elect_n and_o no_o marvel_n that_o saint_n paul_n be_v thankful_a to_o god_n for_o the_o election_n of_o some_o among_o the_o ephesian_n and_o for_o the_o election_n of_o some_o among_o the_o thessalonian_o for_o he_o know_v this_o election_n of_o they_o to_o be_v a_o great_a grace_n and_o favour_n of_o god_n wherefore_o they_o that_o have_v a_o share_n in_o this_o grace_n can_v never_o be_v sufficient_o thankful_a for_o it_o consider_v that_o by_o virtue_n of_o it_o they_o shall_v enjoy_v many_o privilege_n in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v and_o this_o of_o perfect_a and_o happy_a security_n among_o the_o rest_n and_o that_o we_o may_v be_v abundant_o thankful_a for_o it_o we_o must_v sti●l_o world_n they_o shall_v still_o fear_v the_o displeasure_n of_o god_n the_o displeasure_n of_o christ_n the_o displeasure_n of_o the_o saint_n with_o a_o slavish_a fear_n they_o shall_v still_o fear_v the_o pain_n punishment_n and_o torment_n which_o be_v to_o be_v suffer_v by_o they_o in_o that_o world_n and_o that_o with_o a_o perplex_a fear_n and_o for_o proof_n hereof_o these_o argument_n may_v be_v produce_v 1._o if_o the_o perplex_a fear_n of_o evil_n be_v a_o spiritual_a punishment_n belong_v unto_o reprobate_n in_o this_o world_n than_o they_o shall_v have_v much_o more_o experience_n of_o it_o in_o that_o which_o be_v to_o come_v now_o the_o perplex_a fear_n of_o evil_n be_v a_o spiritual_a punishment_n belong_v unto_o such_o in_o this_o world_n as_o may_v appear_v by_o these_o much_o more_o astonish_v in_o this_o respect_n three_o it_o shall_v admonish_v all_o while_o we_o live_v here_o to_o provide_v for_o our_o own_o safety_n that_o we_o may_v dwell_v secure_o and_o may_v be_v free_a from_o fear_n of_o evil_a in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v and_o for_o this_o end_n 1._o we_o must_v still_o pray_v for_o the_o blessing_n of_o pardon_n and_o reconcilion_n which_o
