and_o servant_n will_v never_o be_v able_a to_o retain_v it_o all_o in_o their_o memory_n to_o such_o i_o answer_v 1._o it_o contain_v nothing_o but_o the_o scripture_n which_o be_v often_o preach_v and_o precious_a promise_n which_o do_v abound_v both_o in_o the_o old_a and_o new_a testament_n 3._o child_n and_o servant_n of_o ordinary_a capacity_n commit_v but_o one_o or_o two_o of_o these_o scripture_n to_o their_o memory_n every_o day_n which_o be_v no_o hard_a task_n may_v in_o a_o competent_a time_n retain_v the_o whole_a which_o may_v be_v a_o great_a help_n to_o make_v and_o keep_v they_o sound_v in_o the_o faith_n and_o direct_v they_o how_o to_o order_v their_o conversation_n aright_o whereby_o they_o shall_v come_v to_o see_v the_o salvation_n of_o god_n 4._o it_o will_v be_v easy_a redress_v this_o complaint_n for_o if_o it_o be_v judge_v needful_a i_o can_v soon_o contract_v this_o and_o frame_v one_o consist_v of_o sewer_n and_o short_a text_n of_o scripture_n for_o the_o use_n of_o such_o who_o age_n or_o weakness_n of_o part_n will_v not_o permit_v they_o to_o get_v or_o keep_v in_o memory_n so_o large_a a_o catechism_n as_o this_o be_v or_o parent_n may_v choose_v out_o of_o this_o the_o short_a scripture_n and_o such_o as_o suit_n best_o their_o child_n state_n and_o condition_n and_o teach_v they_o those_o short_a scripture_n omit_v the_o other_o till_o they_o come_v to_o a_o great_a maturity_n of_o age_n and_o understanding_n it_o may_v be_v some_o on_o the_o other_o hand_n will_v say_v this_o catechism_n be_v too_o short_a that_o there_o be_v material_a thing_n omit_v which_o may_v have_v be_v insert_v to_o such_o i_o answer_v 1._o the_o main_a and_o fundamental_a article_n of_o our_o faith_n and_o the_o most_o weighty_a duty_n relate_v to_o practice_n such_o as_o faith_n repentance_n the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o our_o neighbour_n glorify_v god_n self-denial_n forsake_v all_o for_o christ_n contentment_n etc._n etc._n be_v brief_o handle_v in_o this_o catechism_n 2._o i_o be_v the_o short_a in_o this_o because_o i_o have_v thought_n of_o compose_v a_o large_a for_o person_n of_o ripe_a year_n which_o if_o i_o shall_v not_o do_v it_o will_v be_v easy_a for_o such_o as_o be_v well_o verse_v in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n to_o add_v any_o other_o portion_n of_o scripture_n which_o they_o judge_v meet_v for_o instruct_v their_o family_n beside_o what_o be_v contain_v in_o this_o catechism_n either_o according_a to_o this_o method_n or_o what_o way_n else_o they_o shall_v see_v good_a i_o shall_v not_o need_v to_o
