day_n except_v only_o that_o time_n which_o be_v require_v for_o our_o sustenance_n and_o necessity_n in_o divine_a service_n as_o in_o prayer_n hear_v sermon_n read_v good_a book_n and_o the_o like_a and_o therefore_o those_o who_o spend_v this_o day_n in_o idle_a sport_n or_o unnecessary_a voyage_n and_o the_o like_a do_v not_o comply_v full_o with_o the_o end_n of_o this_o commandment_n nor_o with_o the_o church_n desire_v concern_v it_o and_o therefore_o be_v reprehensible_a wherefore_o all_o people_n shall_v be_v exhort_v to_o spend_v at_o least_o some_o part_n of_o the_o day_n in_o hear_v of_o sermon_n or_o other_o pious_a exercise_n for_o by_o little_a and_o little_a christian_n become_v like_o pagan_n without_o apprehension_n of_o the_o next_o world_n at_o all_o unless_o they_o be_v often_o stir_v up_o by_o sermon_n and_o such_o pious_a exercise_n and_o therefore_o to_o neglect_v they_o total_o can_v choose_v but_o be_v a_o great_a abuse_n and_o the_o cause_n that_o many_o go_v headlong_o to_o hell_n 35._o what_o be_v understand_v by_o servile_a work_n all_o corporal_a work_n whereby_o man_n use_v to_o gain_v their_o live_n by_o labour_v for_o other_o man_n which_o be_v common_o call_v meckanicke_a work_n and_o so_o work_v which_o be_v common_a to_o master_n and_o seruamt_n as_o dance_v and_o sing_v and_o the_o like_a be_v not_o esteem_v servile_a but_o the_o best_a rule_n to_o know_v which_o be_v such_o and_o which_o be_v not_o be_v the_o practice_n of_o the_o church_n for_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n do_v not_o forbid_v servile_a work_n on_o day_n dedicate_v to_o god_n his_o service_n but_o only_o so_o far_o forth_o as_o the_o say_a work_n may_v be_v a_o hindrance_n either_o to_o the_o inward_a or_o outward_a worship_n which_o man_n profess_v peculiarly_a towards_o god_n on_o those_o day_n and_o therefore_o as_o it_o belong_v to_o the_o church_n to_o determine_v the_o day_n of_o public_a and_o solemn_a worship_n so_o it_o belong_v to_o she_o also_o to_o determine_v what_o temporal_a work_n be_v to_o be_v permit_v and_o what_o to_o be_v forbid_v as_o prejudicial_a to_o the_o public_a solemnity_n of_o divine_a worship_n intend_v by_o she_o on_o those_o day_n and_o so_o we_o see_v that_o she_o do_v forbid_v certain_a work_n which_o be_v not_o altogether_o mechanic_a as_o buy_v and_o sell_v in_o market_n keep_v open_a shop_n or_o sell_v in_o they_o etc._n etc._n and_o she_o do_v also_o allow_v some_o servile_a work_n which_o be_v daily_o necessary_a for_o the_o subsistence_n and_o entertainment_n of_o man_n as_o most_o household_a business_n be_v 36._o be_v it_o never_o lawful_a upon_o our_o lord_n his_o day_n to_o do_v such_o servile_a work_n as_o the_o church_n forbid_v yes_o when_o the_o not_o do_v they_o may_v be_v a_o cause_n of_o any_o notable_a harm_n as_o the_o take_n in_o of_o harvest_n when_o there_o be_v danger_n that_o it_o may_v be_v spoil_v with_o ill_a weather_n as_o also_o the_o shoo_a of_o a_o horse_n that_o be_v in_o a_o journey_n upon_o the_o high_a way_n etc._n etc._n for_o although_o in_o these_o case_n a_o temporal_a gain_n be_v get_v by_o those_o who_o do_v these_o work_n yet_o that_o particular_a gain_n be_v not_o the_o principal_a end_n of_o permit_v these_o work_n but_o the_o good_a of_o the_o common_a wealth_n 37._o who_o be_v those_o that_o transgress_v against_o this_o commandment_n first_o all_o those_o labourer_n and_o tradesman_n who_o
work_n on_o festival_n day_n second_o those_o who_o consent_n to_o such_o work_n or_o do_v not_o hinder_v it_o when_o they_o may_v by_o authority_n do_v it_o to_o this_o commandment_n also_o may_v be_v reduce_v those_o thing_n which_o be_v commit_v against_o the_o precept_n of_o the_o church_n for_o hear_v of_o mass_n as_o first_o those_z who_o neglect_v to_o hear_v mass_n on_o sunday_n and_o holy_a day_n offend_v mortal_o second_o those_o who_o though_o they_o be_v present_a at_o mass_n yet_o be_v not_o attentive_a at_o it_o but_o stand_v talk_v or_o gaze_v up_o and_o down_o three_o those_o who_o go_v to_o mass_n for_o some_o ill_a end_n four_o those_o who_o take_v no_o care_n to_o see_v that_o their_o child_n andd_a servant_n satisfy_v this_o precept_n 38._o may_v not_o one_o also_o be_v excuse_v in_o some_o case_n from_o hear_v mass_n on_o festival_n day_n yes_o when_o he_o can_v go_v to_o church_n without_o danger_n of_o some_o notable_a hurt_n to_o himself_o or_o to_o his_o neighbour_n or_o if_o he_o have_v some_o lawful_a impediment_n as_o for_o example_n if_o a_o man_n have_v undertake_v a_o voyage_n for_o a_o business_n of_o great_a importance_n either_o for_o himself_o or_o his_o neighbour_n and_o shall_v be_v hinder_v by_o hear_v mass_n from_o perform_v his_o voyage_n in_o due_a time_n commandment_n iu._n 39_o declare_v the_o four_o honour_n thy_o father_n and_o mother_n that_o thy_o life_n may_v be_v long_o in_o the_o land_n which_o our_o lord_n thy_o god_n shall_v give_v thou_o in_o regard_n that_o above_o all_o other_o our_o parent_n be_v most_o near_o to_o we_o and_o that_o we_o be_v most_o oblige_v to_o they_o both_o for_o our_o be_v and_o life_n therefore_o the_o first_o precept_n of_o the_o second_o table_n command_v we_o to_o obey_v and_o reverence_v they_o both_o inward_o and_o outward_o and_o also_o to_o help_v they_o in_o their_o necessity_n for_o honour_n include_v both_o love_n obedience_n and_o service_n 40._o what_o mean_v the_o late_a clause_n that_o thou_o may_v live_v long_o in_o the_o land_n which_o thy_o lord_n thy_o god_n shall_v give_v thou_o as_o it_o do_v promise_v long_o life_n to_o dutiful_a and_o obedient_a child_n so_o also_o it_o be_v a_o most_o fearful_a threat_n among_o other_o punishment_n to_o those_o who_o be_v undutiful_a to_o their_o parent_n from_o who_o they_o have_v receive_v their_o life_n and_o be_v that_o they_o shall_v not_o live_v long_o 41._o what_o obedience_n do_v child_n owe_v to_o their_o parent_n they_o owe_v they_o obedience_n in_o all_o just_a thing_n but_o not_o in_o such_o thing_n as_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n for_o he_o be_v to_o we_o more_o than_o our_o father_n and_o so_o must_v be_v prefer_v 42._o what_o assistance_n be_v child_n bind_v to_o give_v they_o they_o be_v bind_v to_o assist_v they_o not_o only_o by_o their_o industry_n but_o also_o with_o their_o good_n and_o mean_n if_o they_o have_v any_o of_o their_o own_o for_o it_o be_v reason_n that_o those_o that_o have_v give_v we_o our_o be_v shall_v receive_v from_o we_o all_o that_o which_o may_v contribute_v to_o the_o conservation_n of_o their_o be_v and_o the_o obligation_n be_v so_o great_a that_o if_o one_o shall_v see_v his_o father_n and_o his_o son_n in_o imminent_a danger_n and_o be_v not_o able_a to_o help_v both_o he_o be_v bind_v to_o help_v his_o father_n rather_o than_o his_o own_o son_n this_o obligation_n also_o be_v such_o that_o religious_a person_n may_v go_v out_o of_o their_o religion_n to_o assist_v their_o parent_n in_o extreme_a necessity_n when_o by_o other_o mean_v they_o can_v be_v relieve_v 43._o do_v this_o commandment_n oblige_v only_a child_n to_o their_o parent_n no_o for_o love_n be_v mutual_a of_o its_o own_o nature_n and_o so_o by_o oblige_a child_n to_o love_v their_o parent_n god_n oblige_v also_o parent_n to_o love_v their_o child_n but_o it_o be_v not_o necessary_a to_o command_v it_o express_o because_o the_o love_n of_o parent_n towards_o their_o child_n be_v so_o natural_a that_o it_o need_v not_o to_o be_v express_v it_o suffice_v that_o nature_n have_v imprint_v it_o in_o the_o heart_n of_o all_o parent_n 44._o who_o be_v we_o to_o understand_v by_o our_o father_n and_o mother_n first_o and_o principal_o our_o corporal_a father_n and_o mother_n second_o our_o spiritual_a father_n who_o be_v the_o prelate_n of_o the_o church_n as_o also_o our_o ghostly_a father_n thy_o r_o dl_o our_o temporal_a magistrate_n fourthly_a husband_n in_o respect_n of_o their_o wife_n five_o our_o uncle_n and_o aunt_n sixthly_a tutor_n in_o respect_n of_o pupil_n seventhly_a master_n in_o respect_n of_o servant_n eighthly_a those_o who_o teach_v in_o respect_n of_o scholar_n and_o last_o old_a and_o age_a person_n in_o respect_n of_o young_a people_n so_o that_o we_o owe_v to_o all_o these_o a_o more_o particular_a respect_n then_o to_o other_o according_a to_o their_o several_a degree_n as_o they_o likewise_o do_v owe_v a_o particular_a love_n to_o their_o inferior_n of_o each_o kind_n respective_o 45._o how_o do_v child_n transgress_v against_o this_o precept_n first_o all_o those_o do_v transgress_v who_o do_v not_o love_v and_o respect_v their_o carnal_a parent_n second_o those_o who_o do_v not_o obey_v they_o three_o those_o who_o do_v not_o assist_v they_o in_o their_o necessity_n four_o those_o who_o do_v despise_v they_o or_o be_v ashamed_a to_o acknowledge_v they_o by_o reason_n of_o their_o poverty_n five_o those_o who_o treat_v they_o rude_o and_o give_v they_o just_a occasion_n of_o choler_n six_o those_o who_o mock_v at_o they_o and_o murmur_v against_o they_o and_o treat_v they_o with_o injurious_a word_n seventh_o those_o who_o do_v any_o unreasonable_a action_n of_o importance_n contrary_n to_o their_o desire_n eight_o those_o that_o do_v accuse_v their_o parent_n in_o public_a court_n except_o it_o be_v for_o treason_n nine_o those_o who_o by_o excessive_a expense_n and_o disorder_n hinder_v they_o from_o make_v restitution_n of_o good_n ill_o get_v ten_o those_o child_n who_o be_v not_o careful_a to_o see_v that_o their_o father_n and_o mother_n confess_v at_o the_o hour_n of_o death_n sin_n mortal_o in_o case_n that_o there_o be_v no_o body_n else_o to_o look_v unto_o it_o and_o that_o through_o their_o negligence_n their_o parent_n die_v without_o confession_n eleventh_o those_o who_o after_o their_o parent_n death_n do_v not_o execute_v their_o last_o will_n and_o testament_n twelve_o those_o child_n who_o permit_v themselves_o to_o be_v induce_v to_o marry_v against_o their_o father_n will_n offend_v against_o this_o commandment_n and_o it_o be_v to_o be_v note_v that_o the_o obligation_n which_o we_o have_v to_o our_o parent_n be_v so_o great_a that_o they_o who_o transgress_v against_o they_o do_v very_o often_o offend_v mortal_o 46._o how_o do_v parent_n transgress_v against_o this_o commandment_n first_o by_o use_v their_o child_n with_o two_o much_o severity_n as_o those_o do_v who_o beat_v they_o and_o use_v they_o ill_o upon_o no_o occasion_n or_o upon_o just_a occasion_n but_o beyond_o measure_n second_o those_o who_o marry_v they_o to_o person_n that_o they_o can_v love_v three_o those_o who_o make_v they_o become_v religious_a against_o their_o will_n do_v offend_v mortal_o four_o those_o who_o use_v they_o with_o too_o much_o indulgence_n and_o do_v not_o correct_v they_o when_o they_o do_v ill_a five_o those_o who_o have_v more_o care_n to_o see_v they_o rich_a then_o that_o they_o be_v bring_v up_o in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n six_o those_o that_o hinder_v they_o from_o enter_v into_o religion_n when_o they_o seem_v to_o be_v call_v to_o it_o by_o almighty_a god_n seventh_o those_o who_o give_v they_o any_o ill_a example_n or_o put_v they_o upon_o any_o evil_a action_n eight_o those_o who_o disinherit_v they_o without_o any_o lawful_a cause_n nine_o those_o who_o give_v their_o good_n to_o any_o other_o though_o it_o be_v to_o the_o church_n in_o case_n that_o thereby_o they_o deprive_v their_o child_n of_o that_o portion_n which_o be_v reasonable_o due_a unto_o they_o and_o which_o be_v necessary_a to_o maintain_v they_o in_o a_o competent_a manner_n do_v transgress_v notable_o against_o this_o precept_n ten_o those_o who_o send_v their_o child_n to_o beg_v that_o be_v make_v beggar_n of_o they_o when_o they_o be_v able_a to_o maintain_v they_o eleventh_o those_o who_o do_v not_o provide_v for_o their_o bastard_n if_o they_o be_v able_a at_o least_o way_n so_o far_o as_o that_o they_o may_v not_o live_v in_o misery_n 47_o how_o do_v man_n transgress_v against_o other_o person_n who_o be_v mutual_o oblige_v by_o this_o commandment_n first_o
