must_v needs_o receive_v and_o embrace_v it_o with_o their_o heart_n that_o so_o their_o heart_n love_v and_o like_n and_o believe_v it_o may_v set_v all_o their_o sense_n and_o all_o the_o part_n of_o their_o body_n on_o work_n to_o practice_v it_o 4._o last_o the_o heart_n be_v the_o safe_a place_n for_o it_o as_o swoon_v corn_n if_o it_o lie_v on_o the_o top_n of_o the_o furrow_n may_v easy_o be_v devour_v by_o the_o fowl_n of_o the_o air_n but_o if_o it_o be_v hide_v and_o cover_v be_v free_a from_o that_o danger_n so_o the_o word_n which_o thou_o hear_v if_o it_o go_v no_o further_o than_o thy_o ear_n or_o head_n it_o be_v easy_o take_v from_o thou_o but_o if_o it_o descend_v to_o the_o bottom_n of_o thy_o heart_n it_o may_v there_o be_v safe_o keep_v it_o be_v a_o heavenly_a treasure_n and_o therefore_o thou_o must_v imitate_v that_o man_n who_o find_v a_o treasure_n in_o the_o field_n do_v 44._o hide_v it_o and_o for_o joy_n thereof_o go_v and_o sell_v all_o that_o he_o have_v to_o buy_v that_o field_n though_o man_n will_v suffer_v their_o base_a stuff_n and_o wooden_a vessel_n to_o be_v more_o common_a and_o lie_v more_o open_a and_o remain_v in_o great_a danger_n yet_o their_o best_a and_o most_o costly_a stuff_n their_o jewel_n and_o coin_n they_o will_v lay_v up_o in_o the_o safe_a place_n so_o see_v the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v most_o precious_a of_o great_a value_n and_o worth_n lay_v it_o up_o safe_o in_o the_o bottom_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o if_o this_o be_v a_o property_n of_o good_a hearer_n use_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n with_o their_o heart_n than_o those_o who_o bring_v their_o body_n to_o the_o church_n and_o leave_v their_o heart_n at_o home_n who_o draw_v near_o to_o god_n with_o their_o lip_n and_o with_o their_o ear_n when_o their_o heart_n be_v far_o from_o he_o can_v be_v good_a hearer_n if_o thou_o will_v be_v of_o that_o number_n prepare_v thy_o heart_n before_o hand_n and_o while_o thou_o hear_v let_v not_o thy_o heart_n be_v think_v on_o any_o by-matter_n but_o only_o attend_v to_o that_o hear_v with_o thy_o heart_n as_o well_o as_o with_o thy_o ear_n and_o then_o shall_v thou_o be_v bless_v by_o thy_o hear_n 2._o again_o note_v hence_o more_o special_o the_o quality_n and_o disposition_n of_o their_o heart_n who_o hear_v profitable_o they_o hear_v with_o a_o honest_a and_o good_a heart_n it_o be_v not_o any_o kind_n of_o heart_n that_o will_v make_v your_o hear_n profitable_a it_o must_v be_v a_o honest_a and_o good_a heart_n though_o thou_o shall_v hear_v with_o thy_o heart_n as_o well_o as_o with_o thy_o ear_n yet_o unless_o it_o be_v a_o good_a heart_n it_o will_v little_o avail_v thou_o for_o in_o the_o goodness_n of_o the_o heart_n consist_v a_o main_a difference_n betwixt_o these_o hearer_n and_o some_o of_o the_o former_a those_o which_o be_v compare_v to_o stony_a ground_n do_v hear_v with_o their_o heart_n for_o they_o be_v say_v not_o only_o to_o hear_v but_o also_o to_o receive_v the_o word_n with_o joy_n yet_o be_v they_o not_o good_a and_o honest_a heart_n they_o be_v hard_a and_o stony_a and_o will_v not_o suffer_v the_o word_n to_o take_v root_a deep_a enough_o and_o those_o that_o be_v resemble_v to_o thorny_a ground_n do_v hear_v with_o their_o heart_n yet_o be_v their_o heart_n not_o good_a they_o be_v full_a of_o worldly_a care_n and_o carnal_a delight_n which_o afterward_o choke_v the_o word_n but_o these_o receive_v it_o with_o good_a and_o honest_a heart_n agathe_v and_o therefore_o do_v both_o retain_v it_o and_o obey_v it_o in_o describe_v of_o the_o quality_n of_o this_o their_o hart_n christ_n here_o use_v two_o word_n which_o be_v of_o a_o near_a yet_o not_o of_o the_o same_o signification_n there_o be_v some_o difference_n ketwixt_n they_o the_o one_o proper_o signify_v fair_a beautiful_a seemly_a and_o comely_a the_o other_o signify_v good_a and_o excellent_a the_o one_o note_v the_o outward_a apparent_a quality_n the_o other_o express_v the_o inward_a nature_n and_o inherent_a property_n of_o the_o thing_n and_o so_o here_o by_o be_v locum_fw-la signify_v that_o the_o heart_n of_o these_o hearer_n be_v good_a each_o way_n both_o outward_o before_o man_n manifest_v itself_o to_o be_v good_a by_o open_a profession_n by_o abundance_n of_o fruit_n and_o by_o constant_a perseverance_n and_o also_o inward_o in_o itself_o and_o before_o god_n by_o a_o sincere_a sanctification_n and_o holy_a disposition_n and_o so_o their_o heart_n differ_v from_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o former_a hearer_n for_o though_o they_o in_o receyve_v the_o worde_n with_o joy_n in_o believe_v it_o and_o bring_v forth_o some_o fruit_n of_o it_o do_v make_v some_o fair_a show_n and_o give_v some_o outward_a sign_n of_o a_o good_a heart_n yet_o their_o heart_n be_v not_o effectual_o sanctify_v within_o and_o they_o make_v those_o fair_a show_n but_o for_o a_o time_n afterwards_o they_o revolt_a in_o time_n of_o tentation_n or_o fail_v in_o their_o fruit_n through_o worldly_a care_n and_o voluptuousness_n bewray_v the_o filthiness_n of_o their_o heart_n those_o than_o that_o will_v be_v good_a hearer_n must_v have_v good_a heart_n both_o way_n both_o inward_o in_o their_o own_o nature_n and_o inclination_n as_o also_o outward_o before_o man_n by_o the_o fruit_n and_o testimony_n as_o be_v the_o heart_n so_o will_v the_o hear_n be_v good_a meet_a will_v not_o nourish_v that_o man_n body_n who_o have_v a_o bad_a stomach_n that_o can_v well_o
so_o shall_v you_o be_v able_a to_o keep_v they_o for_o ever_o wherefore_o be_v careful_a to_o use_v these_o mean_n what_o be_v the_o cause_n why_o people_n hear_v much_o and_o keep_v little_a but_o be_v like_a to_o bottomless_a barrel_n which_o let_v water_n run_v out_o as_o fast_o as_o it_o be_v pour_v in_o that_o of_o all_o the_o sermon_n which_o they_o have_v hear_v in_o their_o whole_a life_n time_n they_o have_v scarce_o the_o abridgement_n of_o one_o leave_v in_o their_o heart_n or_o head_n for_o their_o direction_n and_o consolation_n but_o even_o because_o they_o have_v neglect_v these_o mean_n use_v they_o hereafter_o and_o you_o shall_v find_v how_o well_o they_o will_v make_v you_o able_a to_o keep_v that_o which_o you_o hear_v and_o bring_v forth_o fruit_n the_o three_o and_o last_o property_n in_o these_o hearer_n be_v this_o they_o bring_v forth_o fruit_n and_o this_o be_v another_o special_a difference_n betwixt_o they_o and_o all_o the_o rest_n for_o the_o rest_n either_o bring_v forth_o no_o fruit_n at_o all_o as_o the_o first_o sort_n or_o but_o for_o a_o time_n as_o the_o second_o or_o imperfect_a fruit_n and_o in_o some_o thing_n only_o as_o the_o three_o but_o these_o bring_v forth_o not_o for_o a_o while_n but_o continual_o not_o in_o some_o thing_n only_o but_o in_o all_o and_o that_o type_n and_o perfect_a fruit_n if_o good_a seed_n be_v sow_v in_o good_a ground_n it_o usual_o bring_v forth_o fruit_n for_o the_o use_n of_o they_o which_o owe_v it_o and_o sow_v it_o so_o if_o some_o doctrine_n be_v preach_v and_o people_n hear_v it_o with_o good_a heart_n it_o will_v bring_v forth_o fruit_n in_o their_o life_n these_o fruit_n be_v bring_v forth_o not_o by_o profession_n but_o by_o practice_n and_o do_v consist_v not_o so_o much_o in_o word_n as_o in_o deed_n and_o therefore_o paul_n pray_v that_o the_o philippian_n may_v be_v fill_v with_o the_o fruit_n of_o righteousness_n and_o that_o the_o colossian_n may_v please_v god_n in_o all_o 11_o thing_n be_v fruitful_a in_o all_o good_a work_n and_o he_o say_v of_o the_o roman_n that_o they_o 10._o be_v free_v from_o sin_n and_o make_v seruaant_n unto_o god_n have_v their_o fruit_n in_o holiness_n so_o that_o this_o fruit_n can_v 22._o be_v understand_v of_o the_o reward_n which_o the_o saint_n receive_v in_o heaven_n but_o of_o the_o obedience_n which_o they_o perform_v on_o earth_n for_o that_o be_v a_o fruit_n which_o they_o receyve_v this_o be_v a_o fruit_n which_o they_o bring_v forth_o that_o they_o receive_v from_o god_n this_o they_o yield_v unto_o god_n that_o be_v a_o fruit_n of_o glory_n this_o be_v a_o fruit_n of_o grace_n see_v then_o the_o disposition_n of_o these_o good_a hearer_n they_o do_v not_o only_o hear_v the_o word_n with_o their_o ear_n and_o understand_v it_o with_o their_o mind_n and_o keep_v it_o in_o their_o heart_n but_o they_o do_v also_o practice_v it_o in_o their_o life_n this_o be_v the_o chief_a end_n of_o all_o the_o rest_n therefore_o do_v they_o hear_v it_o and_o learn_v it_o and_o keep_v it_o in_o their_o heart_n that_o they_o may_v order_v their_o life_n by_o it_o and_o practice_v it_o when_o occasion_n be_v offer_v happy_a be_v all_o those_o which_o thus_o hear_v for_o as_o james_n say_v who_o so_o look_v into_o 25_o the_o perfect_a law_n of_o liberty_n and_o continue_v therein_o he_o not_o be_v a_o forgetful_a hearer_n but_o a_o doer_n of_o the_o work_n shall_v be_v bless_v in_o his_o deed_n if_o therefore_o you_o will_v have_v your_o hear_n to_o be_v acceptable_a to_o god_n and_o comfortable_a to_o your_o own_o soul_n let_v it_o end_v in_o obedience_n ground_n that_o be_v sow_v with_o good_a seed_n though_o it_o shoot_v forth_o a_o broad_a and_o rank_a blade_n will_v not_o content_v the_o owner_n unless_o it_o bring_v forth_o a_o good_a crop_n no_o more_o can_v you_o please_v the_o lord_n by_o hear_v understand_v and_o profess_v the_o word_n unless_o therewithal_o you_o bring_v forth_o fruit_n of_o obedience_n in_o your_o life_n all_o the_o knowledge_n and_o learning_n that_o man_n can_v possible_o have_v in_o any_o art_n or_o science_n be_v nothing_o worth_a without_o practice_n and_o can_v you_o think_v that_o your_o knowledge_n in_o matter_n of_o religion_n will_v profit_v you_o any_o whit_n without_o practice_n and_o indeed_o we_o learn_v no_o more_o than_o we_o practise_v as_o that_o pambo_n acknowledge_v who_o hear_v the_o first_o verse_n of_o the_o 39_o psalm_n i_o say_v i_o will_v take_v heed_n to_o my_o 18._o way_n lest_o i_o offend_v with_o my_o tongue_n confess_v that_o he_o have_v not_o learn_v it_o in_o many_o year_n because_o he_o have_v not_o in_o many_o year_n attain_v to_o the_o right_a practice_n of_o it_o we_o shall_v be_v careful_a to_o bring_v forth_o these_o fruit_n both_o in_o respect_n of_o god_n and_o also_o in_o respect_n of_o ourselves_o first_o in_o respect_n of_o god_n because_o they_o serve_v for_o his_o glory_n therefore_o say_v de_fw-fr christ_n to_o his_o disciple_n herein_o be_v 8._o my_o fathet_z glorify_v that_o you_o bear_v much_o fruit_n and_o therefore_o paul_n pray_v that_o the_o philippian_n may_v be_v fill_v with_o the_o 11_o fruit_n of_o righteousness_n which_o be_v by_o jesus_n christ_n unto_o the_o glory_n and_o praise_n of_o god_n those_o which_o glory_n in_o the_o law_n be_v not_o the_o fruit_n here_o speak_v of_o the_o lord_n may_v say_v to_o they_o that_o bring_v forth_o such_o fruit_n who_o require_v these_o thing_n at_o your_o hand_n these_o thing_n as_o the_o kind_n of_o seed_n some_o of_o one_o grain_n some_o of_o another_o &_o also_o diverse_a kind_n of_o fruit_n some_o of_o one_o grain_n some_o of_o another_o so_o there_o be_v diverse_a kind_n of_o doctrine_n &_o diverse_a kind_n of_o duty_n and_o as_o all_o field_n be_v not_o sow_v with_o the_o same_o grain_n but_o some_o with_o one_o kind_n some_o with_o another_o as_o they_o will_v best_o bear_v so_o all_o doctrine_n and_o duty_n be_v not_o impose_v and_o enjoin_v to_o all_o person_n but_o some_o to_o one_o some_o to_o another_o according_a to_o their_o call_n place_n and_o estate_n those_o person_n be_v fruitful_a hearer_n who_o careful_o perform_v all_o such_o duty_n as_o belong_v to_o their_o place_n state_z and_o call_z though_o they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o perform_v such_o good_a work_n as_o be_v account_v the_o great_a and_o most_o profitable_a some_o have_v imagine_v that_o the_o sound_n of_o college_n and_o school_n erect_v of_o hospital_n building_n of_o church_n bountyfull_a alm_n give_v to_o the_o poor_a and_o such_o great_a good_a work_n which_o can_v be_v perform_v by_o a_o few_o be_v the_o only_a or_o chief_a good-fruite_n though_o we_o will_v not_o deny_v but_o that_o these_o be_v excellent_a fruit_n in_o their_o kind_n if_o they_o proceed_v from_o a_o good_a root_n and_o be_v direct_v to_o a_o right_a end_n yet_o be_v there_o many_o other_o trouble_n and_o suffer_v much_o affliction_n before_o they_o can_v bring_v forth_o the_o fruit_n of_o it_o yet_o if_o they_o be_v endue_v with_o patience_n they_o will_v be_v content_a to_o bear_v all_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o the_o apostle_n tell_v the_o hebrew_n that_o 36._o they_o have_v need_n of_o patience_n that_o after_o they_o have_v do_v the_o will_n of_o god_n they_o may_v receive_v the_o promise_n as_o if_o by_o patience_n they_o may_v be_v make_v able_a in_o those_o bloody_a day_n of_o cruel_a persecution_n to_o do_v the_o will_n of_o god_n and_o so_o to_o receive_v the_o promise_n and_o through_o want_n of_o patience_n they_o shall_v fail_v in_o the_o deed_n and_o not_o obtain_v the_o promise_n and_o for_o this_o cause_n he_o exhort_v we_o to_o run_v with_o patience_n
