lord_n thus_o we_o see_v the_o mean_n how_o we_o may_v get_v this_o desire_n thus_o we_o see_v how_o the_o lord_n learn_v every_o faculty_n his_o lecture_n the_o mind_n have_v be_v enlighten_v we_o have_v do_v with_o that_o hope_n have_v be_v stir_v and_o desire_v quicken_v these_o we_o have_v likewise_o finish_v we_o come_v now_o in_o the_o four_o place_n to_o treat_v of_o two_o other_o faculty_n of_o the_o soul_n love_n and_o joy_n which_o because_o they_o be_v so_o near_o combine_v together_o both_o in_o nature_n and_o form_n as_o we_o shall_v hear_v hereafter_o therefore_o with_o your_o patience_n handle_v they_o together_o and_o read_v one_o lecture_n to_o they_o both_o but_o before_o i_o proceed_v to_o meddle_v with_o the_o particular_n let_v i_o premise_v something_o in_o the_o general_a that_o we_o take_v all_o rub_v out_o of_o the_o way_n and_o that_o none_o may_v stumble_v at_o that_o which_o shall_v be_v deliver_v therefore_o let_v no_o man_n think_v it_o strange_a do_v but_o consider_v what_o we_o have_v speak_v already_o in_o the_o work_n of_o preparation_n but_o a_o little_a to_o take_v away_o these_o rub_n take_v notice_n of_o three_o ensue_a passage_n which_o will_v clear_v the_o way_n to_o that_o which_o afterward_o shall_v be_v speak_v passage_n 1_o know_v in_o the_o first_o place_n it_o be_v not_o my_o intendment_n to_o persuade_v any_o to_o think_v that_o sanctification_n be_v before_o justification_n for_o the_o truth_n be_v i_o conceive_v the_o thing_n be_v not_o agreeable_a to_o truth_n take_v sanctification_n in_o a_o narrow_a strict_a sense_n as_o it_o must_v be_v so_o conceive_v in_o this_o place_n neither_o can_v the_o doctrine_n which_o i_o have_v deliver_v if_o they_o be_v understand_v aright_o according_a to_o the_o explication_n thereof_o show_v so_o much_o this_o be_v the_o first_o passage_n 2_o second_o look_v by_o what_o right_a and_o reason_n many_o judicious_a divine_n of_o late_a year_n have_v by_o experience_n observe_v in_o their_o own_o spirit_n and_o judicious_o scan_v and_o deliver_v it_o that_o there_o be_v a_o save_a desire_n by_o which_o god_n bring_v in_o and_o breed_v faith_n in_o the_o soul_n it_o be_v the_o speech_n of_o judicious_a perkins_n nay_o the_o spirit_n seem_v to_o i_o to_o intimate_v as_o much_o when_o it_o say_v ho_o every_o one_o that_o thirst_v 7.37_o john_n 7.37_o come_v and_o drink_v there_o must_v be_v first_o thirst_v then_o come_v and_o believe_v which_o thirst_v be_v nothing_o else_o but_o a_o save_a desire_n therefore_o as_o there_o be_v a_o save_a desire_n by_o which_o god_n cause_v both_o grace_n to_o breed_v and_o faith_n to_o spring_v in_o the_o soul_n by_o the_o same_o reason_n there_o may_v be_v a_o kind_n of_o love_n and_o joy_n by_o which_o as_o spawn_n and_o seed_n of_o faith_n faith_n may_v be_v communicate_v and_o stamp_v upon_o the_o soul_n for_o the_o same_o ground_n that_o be_v for_o the_o one_o be_v also_o for_o the_o other_o and_o it_o be_v a_o thing_n to_o i_o incredible_a that_o the_o soul_n of_o a_o man_n shall_v fall_v and_o rest_n upon_o the_o promise_n and_o yet_o never_o desire_v it_o nor_o hope_v for_o it_o be_v absent_a and_o embrace_v it_o love_n and_o delight_n in_o it_o with_o joy_n when_o it_o be_v come_v for_o look_v with_o what_o authority_n and_o right_a there_o be_v thirst_v before_o come_v and_o a_o desire_n before_o faith_n for_o faith_n be_v all_o this_o while_n a_o hatch_n and_o breed_n by_o the_o same_o right_a and_o authority_n there_o be_v a_o save_a kind_n of_o love_n and_o joy_n save_a work_n and_o a_o sanctify_a take_v in_o the_o proper_a narrow_a sense_n of_o it_o know_v therefore_o that_o desire_n and_o love_n be_v of_o a_o double_a nature_n some_o in_o vocation_n be_v observe_v some_o in_o sanctification_n be_v consider_v as_o there_o be_v a_o sorrow_n in_o preparation_n &_o a_o sorrow_n in_o sanctification_n so_o there_o be_v one_o desire_n and_o love_n and_o joy_n in_o vocation_n stir_v another_o in_o sanctification_n express_v both_o join_v one_o with_o another_o but_o they_o be_v not_o the_o same_o the_o frame_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o the_o work_n upon_o the_o soul_n in_o vocation_n be_v not_o the_o same_o which_o be_v in_o sanctification_n brief_o in_o vocation_n in_o this_o call_v which_o i_o speak_v of_o the_o lord_n work_v this_o work_n upon_o i_o i_o have_v no_o power_n of_o myself_o but_o only_o receive_v it_o from_o the_o lord_n at_o the_o first_o convey_v in_o of_o the_o power_n of_o hope_n and_o desire_v and_o love_n and_o joy_n god_n communicate_v they_o unto_o i_o but_o in_o sanctification_n i_o work_v from_o a_o principle_n which_o i_o have_v receive_v from_o the_o power_n of_o grace_n which_o christ_n have_v communicate_v to_o i_o be_v call_v and_o sanctify_a and_o have_v receive_v the_o spirit_n of_o adoption_n so_o that_o the_o grace_n i_o now_o speak_v of_o usher_z in_o and_o lead_v the_o way_n for_o the_o come_n in_o of_o faith_n when_o faith_n come_v into_o the_o soul_n it_o be_v there_o as_o the_o king_n in_o his_o privy_a chamber_n it_o rule_v and_o command_v all_o his_o servant_n now_o the_o way_n be_v clear_a if_o you_o meet_v with_o hope_n and_o faith_n love_n and_o faith_n put_v for_o one_o another_o understand_v that_o they_o be_v not_o literal_o to_o be_v conceive_v but_o in_o a_o figurative_a sense_n so_o then_o to_o proceed_v to_o the_o doctrine_n i_o mean_v to_o stand_v upon_o which_o be_v this_o doctrine_n the_o spirit_n of_o the_o lord_n kindle_v in_o a_o humble_a heart_n and_o enlighten_v sinner_n love_n and_o joy_n to_o entertain_v and_o rejoice_v in_o the_o riches_n of_o his_o mercy_n there_o be_v three_o passage_n to_o be_v consider_v that_o so_o we_o may_v see_v the_o compass_n of_o the_o point_n in_o hand_n passage_n 1_o first_o this_o love_n and_o joy_n be_v not_o where_o to_o be_v find_v but_o in_o a_o heart_n humble_v and_o enlighten_v for_o unless_o the_o second_o if_o it_o be_v so_o that_o faith_n be_v a_o rest_v upon_o god_n and_o a_o receive_n of_o mercy_n from_o god_n than_o this_o be_v a_o word_n of_o terror_n to_o all_o that_o still_o remain_v in_o unbelief_n they_o be_v to_o see_v their_o sin_n and_o misery_n by_o sin_n their_o sin_n be_v most_o heinous_a and_o their_o plague_n be_v intolerable_a if_o it_o be_v faith_n that_o bring_v a_o man_n to_o christ_n and_o suit_v a_o man_n with_o all_o comfort_n from_o christ_n then_o all_o you_o unbelieved_a sinner_n let_v your_o soul_n shake_v in_o the_o apprehension_n of_o all_o these_o plague_n of_o which_o you_o be_v guilty_a it_o be_v the_o misery_n that_o befall_v poor_a creature_n they_o be_v loath_a to_o be_v know_v to_o be_v drunkard_n or_o thief_n or_o robber_n because_o shame_n will_v come_v to_o they_o but_o not_o to_o believe_v the_o promise_n and_o to_o despise_v the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n you_o make_v nothing_o of_o this_o you_o draw_v the_o harrow_n light_o
