covenant_n of_o grace_n as_o it_o promise_v pardon_n of_o sin_n so_o also_o a_o new_a heart_n and_o actual_a exercise_n of_o grace_n so_o that_o they_o shall_v walk_v in_o all_o god_n way_n now_o the_o way_n wherein_o pardon_n be_v to_o be_v have_v be_v repentance_n and_o faith_n we_o must_v not_o therefore_o conceive_v of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n as_o promise_v pardon_n and_o forgiveness_n without_o any_o qualification_n in_o the_o subject_n this_o will_v contradict_v other_o place_n of_o scripture_n therefore_o in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n some_o thing_n be_v promise_v absolute_o suppose_v nothing_o to_o go_v before_o such_o be_v regeneration_n the_o work_n of_o faith_n in_o we_o give_v his_o holy_a spirit_n to_o we_o and_o union_n with_o christ_n 2._o there_o be_v many_o privilege_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o those_o be_v give_v where_o god_n have_v wrought_v some_o former_a effect_n of_o his_o grace_n and_o suppose_v they_o to_o be_v such_o be_v justification_n pardon_v of_o sin_n increase_v in_o grace_n glorification_n all_o these_o thing_n be_v promise_v in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n but_o make_v good_a where_o there_o be_v the_o former_a effect_n of_o god_n grace_n wrought_v in_o they_o we_o do_v not_o therefore_o say_v god_n do_v not_o pardon_v sin_n unless_o repentance_n go_v before_o as_o if_o god_n need_v repentance_n as_o if_o he_o can_v not_o do_v it_o without_o repentance_n as_o if_o repentance_n make_v god_n the_o better_a or_o make_v he_o amends_o these_o be_v idle_a calumny_n cast_v upon_o this_o doctrine_n in_o some_o pamphlet_n but_o only_o god_n have_v appoint_v one_o effect_n of_o his_o grace_n before_o another_o in_o order_n and_o he_o will_v not_o vouchsafe_v one_o before_o he_o have_v wrought_v the_o other_o as_o for_o instance_n god_n have_v appoint_v no_o unclean_a thing_n shall_v enter_v into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n god_n will_v not_o give_v glory_n where_o he_o have_v not_o give_v grace_n if_o one_o shall_v tragical_o exclaim_v upon_o this_o this_o be_v to_o make_v god_n need_v our_o grace_n this_o be_v to_o make_v grace_n meritorious_a with_o god_n this_o be_v to_o be_v a_o papist_n a_o formalist_n to_o make_v man_n rest_v in_o themselves_o you_o will_v present_o judge_v this_o a_o vain_a weak_a cavil_n no_o less_o be_v it_o when_o we_o be_v charge_v thus_o for_o hold_v god_n will_v not_o forgive_v sin_n but_o to_o those_o that_o believe_v and_o repent_v it_o be_v not_o for_o any_o worth_n in_o what_o we_o do_v but_o because_o god_n will_v have_v a_o order_n and_o a_o method_n in_o his_o grace_n justification_n where_o repentance_n be_v glorification_n where_o holiness_n be_v it_o be_v not_o fit_a to_o give_v pearl_n unto_o swine_n nor_o child_n thanks_o to_o god_n through_o jesus_n christ_n this_o be_v clean_a contrary_n to_o he_o for_o paul_n do_v great_o humble_v himself_o and_o be_v deep_o sensible_a of_o this_o tyranny_n of_o sin_n which_o make_v he_o cry_v out_o o_o miserable_a man_n that_o i_o be_o who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o from_o this_o body_n of_o sin_n so_o that_o we_o can_v with_o any_o colour_n call_v he_o a_o harden_a it_o in_o our_o own_o heart_n hence_o when_o god_n speak_v of_o pardon_n of_o sin_n he_o use_v many_o time_n the_o future_a tense_n jer._n 31._o i_o will_v forgive_v their_o iniquity_n which_o if_o pardon_v before_o will_v be_v very_o difficult_a to_o say_v even_o as_o hard_o as_o if_o god_n shall_v say_v i_o will_v predestine_v and_o elect_v such_o man_n it_o be_v indeed_o often_o say_v that_o which_o it_o be_v impossible_a to_o please_v god_n be_v the_o believe_a that_o my_o sin_n be_v pardon_v whereas_o the_o scripture_n make_v it_o to_o be_v the_o receive_n of_o christ_n and_o lay_v hold_n on_o he_o and_o see_v that_o the_o object_n must_v in_o order_n of_o nature_n be_v before_o the_o act_n that_o be_v employ_v about_o it_o it_o follow_v infallible_o that_o i_o must_v have_v justification_n before_o i_o can_v believe_v i_o have_v it_o repentance_n therefore_o may_v be_v think_v to_o go_v before_o a_o twofold_a act_n of_o faith_n first_o that_o whereby_o christ_n be_v lay_v hold_n upon_o and_o make_v we_o and_o so_o the_o repentance_n that_o precede_v this_o may_v be_v call_v legal_a and_o slavish_a or_o second_o before_o a_o persuasion_n that_o my_o sin_n be_v pardon_v and_o before_o this_o act_n of_o faith_n repentance_n must_v necessary_o go_v because_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n dispense_v pardon_v only_o to_o such_o scripture_n but_o because_o i_o have_v already_o speak_v enough_o of_o the_o former_a kind_n of_o repentance_n antecede_v remission_n of_o sin_n vindicate_v the_o necessity_n of_o it_o i_o shall_v press_v upon_o this_o late_a as_o destroy_v the_o more_o gracious_a than_o we_o perceive_v god_n to_o we_o the_o more_o humiliation_n and_o debasement_n we_o find_v in_o ourselves_o thus_o the_o apostle_n peter_n 1_o pet._n 1.17_o
