of_o particular_a passage_n with_o reference_n to_o that_o and_o if_o there_o be_v any_o single_a passage_n which_o we_o apprehend_v not_o the_o meaning_n of_o or_o which_o at_o the_o first_o read_n seem_v to_o have_v another_o mean_v than_o be_v agreeable_a to_o the_o be_v main_a design_n we_o build_v nothing_o upon_o such_o a_o passage_n but_o wait_v a_o while_n to_o see_v if_o the_o author_n although_o some_o few_o passage_n in_o st._n paul_n write_n shall_v in_o their_o most_o obvious_a meaning_n seem_v to_o imply_v the_o contrary_a to_o this_o it_o will_v be_v reasonable_a however_o to_o believe_v and_o assert_v the_o indispensible_a necessity_n of_o a_o holy_a life_n together_o with_o a_o othordox_n belief_n rather_o than_o upon_o they_o alone_o to_o ground_n the_o doctrine_n which_o if_o true_a will_v plain_o evacuate_v all_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o bible_n and_o perfect_o thwart_v and_o contradict_v the_o whole_a design_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o this_o i_o think_v a_o work_n and_o not_o by_o faith_n only_o which_o difference_n nevertheless_o i_o believe_v it_o be_v not_o so_o hard_a a_o matter_n to_o reconcile_v as_o at_o the_o first_o sight_n it_o may_v appear_v will_v be_v easy_a to_o understand_v all_o those_o place_n wherein_o he_o attribute_n this_o to_o faith_n only_o in_o a_o sense_n very_o agreeable_a to_o the_o doctrine_n which_o st._n james_n here_o teach_v it_o will_v be_v easy_a then_o to_o understand_v what_o st._n paul_n mean_v rom._n four_o 5._o where_o he_o say_v that_o god_n justify_v the_o ungodly_a then_o i_o say_v that_o passage_n which_o have_v be_v think_v the_o strong_a will_v appear_v to_o be_v no_o objection_n at_o all_o against_o st._n james_n doctrine_n the_o meaning_n thereof_o be_v only_o this_o that_o the_o grace_n chapter_n for_o the_o case_n be_v thus_o upon_o his_o give_v a_o full_a and_o hearty_a assent_n to_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o divine_a promise_n he_o be_v immediate_o receive_v into_o god_n favour_n already_o by_o our_o embrace_v and_o believe_v and_o profess_v the_o gospel_n in_o such_o a_o capacity_n and_o likelihood_n of_o obtain_v eternal_a life_n as_o a_o heir_n be_v of_o enjoy_v his_o this_o sense_n st._n james_n use_v the_o word_n by_o that_o faith_n which_o be_v without_o work_n he_o say_v be_v not_o sufficient_a to_o justify_v or_o save_v we_o he_o plain_o mean_v nothing_o more_o than_o only_a a_o belief_n of_o those_o truth_n which_o be_v reveal_v in_o the_o gospel_n and_o the_o case_n that_o he_o put_v be_v this_o that_o a_o man_n believe_v there_o be_v a_o god_n and_o that_o those_o thing_n which_o he_o have_v reveal_v be_v true_a and_o that_o all_o his_o promise_n and_o threaten_n shall_v be_v make_v good_a but_o nevertheless_o take_v no_o care_n to_o live_v well_o and_o in_o this_o case_n he_o say_v that_o such_o a_o faith_n as_o this_o be_v a_o empty_a dead_a faith_n and_o that_o it_o will_v be_v of_o no_o real_a advantage_n to_o we_o any_o more_o than_o it_o be_v to_o the_o be_v who_o believe_v all_o these_o truth_n as_o firm_o as_o we_o can_v do_v but_o without_o any_o benefit_n to_o themselves_o because_o the_o promise_n be_v not_o make_v from_o his_o oftentimes_o use_v oath_n word_n and_o phrase_n instead_o of_o the_o single_a word_n faith_n for_o whhat_o he_o sometime_o call_v faith_n he_o at_o other_o time_n in_o those_o same_o epistle_n call_v the_o law_n of_o faith_n and_o the_o obedience_n of_o faith_n rom._n iii._o 27._o i._n 5._o xuj_o 26._o and_o in_o rom._n x._o 16._o he_o most_o clear_o explain_v his_o own_o meaning_n to_o be_v to_o include_v and_o comprehend_v obedience_n in_o the_o word_n faith_n whenever_o he_o attribute_n so_o much_o to_o faith_n but_o they_o have_v not_o all_o obey_v the_o gospel_n for_o esaias_n say_v lord_n who_o have_v believe_v our_o report_n in_o which_o word_n the_o same_o thing_n be_v plain_o mean_v by_o obey_v the_o gospel_n and_o believe_v the_o report_n of_o the_o preacher_n of_o it_o from_o whence_o it_o clear_o appear_v that_o the_o faith_n or_o belief_n which_o he_o so_o much_o magnify_v
in_o that_o epistle_n be_v not_o a_o idle_a ineffectual_a belief_n but_o such_o a_o faith_n as_o make_v man_n to_o be_v obedient_a forasmuch_o therefore_o as_o the_o faith_n which_o st._n paul_n
