a_o belief_n according_a to_o both_o which_o though_o not_o without_o either_o because_o presuppose_v both_o must_v be_v it_o can_v be_v justify_v faith_n than_o it_o will_v appear_v that_o it_o be_v or_o the_o same_o and_o the_o end_n and_o effect_v thereof_o obtain_v which_o be_v to_o incline_v their_o heart_n to_o keep_v it_o and_o after_o all_o the_o commandment_n and_o every_o particular_a they_o desire_v god_n to_o give_v they_o a_o general_a pardon_n of_o all_o sin_n against_o this_o law_n and_o such_o a_o measure_n of_o grace_n as_o that_o they_o may_v perform_v a_o universal_a obedience_n for_o so_o the_o petition_n run_v write_v all_o these_o thy_o law_n in_o our_o heart_n we_o beseech_v thou_o in_o the_o next_o place_n §_o xii_o let_v we_o consider_v what_o have_v be_v the_o bind_a force_n of_o it_o in_o all_o time_n since_o it_o be_v first_o give_v to_o man._n to_o this_o purpose_n we_o must_v observe_v many_o thing_n
1._o that_o as_o pure_o moral_a it_o be_v always_o in_o force_n and_o god_n do_v never_o at_o any_o time_n dispense_v with_o it_o but_o make_v it_o the_o foundation_n of_o all_o other_o law_n and_o it_o shall_v continue_v in_o force_n in_o heaven_n for_o in_o the_o very_a estate_n of_o perfect_a glory_n all_o the_o subject_n of_o that_o eternal_a glorious_a kingdom_n shall_v be_v bind_v eternal_o to_o love_v their_o god_n themselves_o and_o one_o another_o 2._o god_n bind_v adam_n in_o the_o day_n of_o creation_n to_o the_o perfect_a and_o perpetual_a personal_a obedience_n of_o this_o law_n and_o of_o other_o positives_n as_o the_o only_a condition_n of_o life_n and_o so_o that_o upon_o one_o sin_n he_o and_o all_o his_o shall_v be_v liable_a to_o death_n without_o any_o remedy_n as_o from_o that_o law_n this_o be_v the_o high_a obligation_n 3._o after_o that_o adam_n and_o in_o he_o all_o his_o have_v once_o sin_v this_o law_n with_o the_o positives_n do_v render_v he_o liable_a and_o bind_v to_o death_n 4._o after_o that_o christ_n be_v once_o promise_v as_o a_o surety_n and_o hostage_n to_o satisfy_v god_n justice_n offend_v by_o the_o sin_n of_o man_n it_o make_v he_o liable_a to_o death_n and_o all_o such_o punishment_n as_o god_n shall_v inflict_v upon_o he_o 5._o after_o the_o fall_n of_o adam_n it_o be_v in_o force_n so_o faâ—_n as_o to_o bind_v all_o such_o as_o be_v out_o of_o the_o church_n to_o temporal_a and_o eternal_a punishment_n for_o their_o sin_n against_o it_o without_o any_o hope_n of_o pardon_n and_o all_o such_o as_o be_v in_o the_o visible_a church_n to_o temporal_a and_o eternal_a punishment_n no_o way_n removable_a but_o upon_o faith_n in_o the_o death_n of_o christ._n 6._o it_o be_v in_o force_n always_o since_o sinful_a man_n receive_v the_o new_a law_n and_o covenant_n of_o grace_n to_o bind_v he_o to_o repentance_n present_a repentance_n and_o return_v unto_o the_o sincere_a obedience_n of_o it_o to_o be_v perform_v by_o the_o power_n of_o the_o spirit_n 7._o it_o always_o be_v in_o force_n to_o bind_v the_o regenerate_v child_n of_o god_n here_o on_o earth_n to_o endeavour_v and_o aim_n at_o a_o universal_a perpetual_a and_o perfect_a obedience_n and_o upon_o defect_n or_o default_n present_o to_o return_v to_o god-redeemer_n for_o mercy_n and_o pardon_n of_o what_o be_v past_a to_o be_v obtain_v by_o a_o plea_n of_o christ_n satisfaction_n and_o merit_n and_o also_o further_o for_o the_o continuance_n and_o increase_n of_o his_o sanctify_a grace_n last_o after_o that_o man_n be_v perfect_o sanctify_v it_o be_v so_o far_o in_o force_n as_o to_o bind_v he_o to_o perfect_a and_o eternal_a obedience_n unto_o it_o such_o be_v the_o excellency_n of_o this_o law_n as_o pure_o moral_a that_o 1._o if_o man_n have_v keep_v it_o god_n will_v give_v life_n by_o it_o 2._o that_o god_n never_o give_v man_n a_o liberty_n to_o be_v free_a from_o the_o obligation_n of_o it_o 3._o that_o god_n will_v never_o pardon_v any_o sin_n against_o it_o without_o satisfaction_n make_v by_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n believe_v and_o plead_v by_o sinful_a man._n 4._o that_o christ_n merit_v and_o god_n restore_v the_o spirit_n of_o sanctification_n that_o man_n may_v keep_v it_o 5._o that_o he_o will_v not_o spare_v his_o own_o child_n when_o they_o transgress_v it_o by_o heinous_a and_o especial_o scandalous_a sin_n 6._o that_o no_o man_n can_v have_v union_n with_o christ_n except_o he_o willing_o separate_v from_o sin_n and_o return_v to_o the_o obedience_n of_o this_o law_n 7._o commination_n of_o death_n upon_o sin_n be_v abolish_v and_o faith_n be_v make_v the_o only_a condition_n of_o life_n so_o that_o it_o may_v be_v true_o say_v that_o the_o law_n of_o work_n be_v so_o he_o never_o grant_v any_o time_n for_o sin_n from_o sin_n we_o must_v keep_v a_o perpetual_a sabbath_n 2._o man_n work_n be_v his_o labour_n and_o employment_n in_o the_o affair_n of_o this_o world_n which_o be_v lawful_a and_o in_o themselves_o no_o way_n unlawful_a they_o be_v not_o only_o lawful_a but_o in_o the_o time_n allot_v by_o god_n necessary_a and_o he_o that_o neglect_v they_o shall_v offend_v and_o by_o this_o work_n be_v not_o mean_v only_o the_o toil_n of_o the_o body_n but_o the_o thought_n care_n and_o consultation_n of_o the_o soul_n which_o both_o be_v unlawful_a on_o the_o sabbath_n not_o only_o because_o god_n have_v exempt_v all_o that_o time_n from_o they_o but_o also_o because_o they_o will_v distract_v and_o hinder_v we_o in_o the_o work_n of_o sanctification_n as_o these_o word_n be_v no_o command_n so_o they_o be_v no_o prohibition_n of_o serve_v god_n and_o sequester_v some_o part_n of_o the_o six_o day_n for_o performance_n of_o heavenly_a duty_n for_o as_o man_n upon_o the_o sabbath_n may_v eat_v and_o drink_v and_o do_v work_n of_o necessity_n mercy_n and_o charity_n so_o upon_o these_o six_o day_n he_o may_v and_o must_v serve_v and_o worship_v his_o god_n and_o single_a out_o some_o part_n of_o they_o for_o that_o purpose_n every_o day_n we_o shall_v present_v ourselves_o before_o our_o god_n and_o converse_v with_o he_o and_o make_v some_o part_n of_o it_o a_o sabbath_n and_o if_o by_o god_n gracious_a providence_n our_o condition_n be_v such_o as_o that_o we_o enjoy_v a_o large_a measure_n of_o this_o secular_a time_n then_o ordinary_a so_o that_o we_o have_v leisure_n to_o sanctify_v the_o same_o our_o sin_n be_v great_a if_o we_o neglect_v the_o opportunity_n and_o spend_v our_o precious_a time_n in_o idleness_n vanity_n and_o sin_n or_o needless_a business_n of_o the_o world_n we_o must_v not_o neglect_v the_o duty_n of_o our_o call_n and_o our_o necessary_a employment_n or_o spend_v our_o spare_a time_n only_o in_o contemptation_n and_o devotion_n so_o as_o to_o omit_v the_o opportunitye_n that_o god_n have_v give_v we_o to_o do_v good_a to_o other_o but_o we_o must_v take_v heed_n leâ—â—_n we_o turn_v our_o religion_n and_o continue_a devotion_n into_o formality_n and_o whereas_o it_o be_v say_v thou_o shall_v do_v all_z thy_o work_n by_o the_o particle_n all_o may_v be_v signify_v all_o kind_n of_o secular_a work_n though_o they_o be_v many_o and_o various_a according_a to_o the_o multitude_n and_o variety_n of_o employment_n which_o be_v honest_a and_o beneficial_a or_o any_o care_n about_o worldly_a thing_n all_o word_n and_o conference_n so_o far_o as_o they_o be_v inconsistent_a with_o the_o holy_a observation_n of_o the_o time_n for_o man_n work_n imply_v all_o these_o yet_o this_o clause_n do_v not_o prohibit_v such_o work_n as_o be_v no_o way_n profane_v but_o rather_o tend_v unto_o the_o sanctification_n of_o the_o day_n the_o jew_n may_v circumcise_v upon_o that_o day_n the_o priest_n may_v kill_v their_o sacrifice_n and_o make_v their_o fire_n to_o burn_v they_o the_o disciple_n must_v pluck_v ear_n of_o corn_n and_o eat_v they_o our_o saviour_n may_v lord_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n by_o the_o work_n of_o six_o day_n the_o seven_o day_n wherein_o he_o rest_v from_o his_o work_n be_v a_o fit_a time_n for_o man_n rest_n that_o on_o that_o day_n religion_n and_o yet_o stand_v at_o a_o great_a distance_n from_o their_o god_n for_o god_n require_v not_o any_o kind_n of_o sanctification_n of_o this_o day_n but_o that_o which_o be_v hearty_a and_o sincere_a and_o because_o our_o best_a service_n be_v imperfect_a therefore_o we_o can_v keep_v no_o perfect_a sabbath_n on_o earth_n that_o be_v reserve_v for_o heaven_n let_v we_o therefore_o themselves_o that_o all_o religious_a service_n be_v vain_a and_o that_o the_o worship_n of_o a_o deity_n have_v no_o better_a reason_n and_o ground_n than_o the_o fancy_n and_o conceit_n of_o some_o precise_a superstitious_a fool_n they_o think_v that_o the_o rest_n and_o sanctification_n of_o every_o seven_o day_n be_v a_o needless_a expense_n and_o loss_n of_o time_n to_o the_o hindrance_n and_o neglect_n of_o many_o considerable_a business_n 2._o some_o though_o not_o so_o profane_a do_v not_o consider_v how_o much_o the_o preservation_n and_o continuance_n of_o religion_n depend_v upon_o the_o observation_n of_o holy_a sabbath_n take_v these_o away_o you_o shall_v by_o experience_n find_v that_o religion_n will_v decay_v and_o that_o in_o a_o short_a time_n we_o by_o the_o
