law_n and_o gospel_n together_o in_o the_o case_n of_o justification_n 6._o if_o by_o grace_n then_o be_v it_o no_o more_o of_o work_n otherwise_o grace_n be_v no_o grace_n but_o if_o it_o be_v of_o creature_n be_v work_n it_o be_v but_o to_o change_v one_o work_v of_o the_o creature_n to_o another_o from_o a_o external_a work_n of_o the_o life_n to_o a_o internal_a work_n of_o the_o heart_n a_o strict_a and_o regular_a discipline_n 〈◊〉_d so_o much_o church-work_n which_o make_v the_o communion_n of_o the_o saint_n the_o more_o uncomfortable_a to_o they_o for_o though_o it_o can_v be_v deny_v but_o sincere_a person_n may_v fall_v under_o sin_n and_o temptation_n and_o so_o all_o the_o trouble_n of_o church_n and_o reproach_n that_o fall_v upon_o religion_n do_v not_o arise_v from_o these_o counterfeit_n christian_n or_o formal_a professor_n yet_o doubtless_o the_o chief_a part_n of_o they_o do_v it_o be_v say_v offence_n will_v come_v but_o woe_n to_o they_o by_o who_o the_o offence_n come_v from_o all_o which_o consideration_n their_o state_n seem_v worse_a in_o many_o degree_n than_o before_o sixthly_a the_o wicked_a spirit_n or_o abominable_a sin_n that_o some_o of_o which_o they_o judge_v they_o be_v bind_v to_o observe_v and_o keep_v in_o order_n to_o justification_n they_o have_v peace_n render_v the_o gospel_n and_o covenant_n of_o grace_n by_o their_o false_a apprehension_n of_o it_o no_o better_a than_o a_o legal_a ministration_n or_o conditional_a covenant_n as_o be_v hint_v before_o in_o respect_n of_o another_o sort_n of_o man_n for_o like_a as_o the_o jew_n of_o old_a act_v in_o a_o legal_a spirit_n and_o seek_v to_o be_v justify_v by_o the_o work_v of_o the_o law_n so_o these_o perform_v all_o their_o service_n and_o duty_n in_o the_o same_o spirit_n viz._n not_o from_o life_n or_o a_o divine_a principle_n of_o saving-faith_n but_o for_o life_n to_o keep_v the_o commandment_n of_o god_n and_o live_v religious_o be_v absolute_o necessary_a but_o then_o this_o must_v be_v do_v from_o a_o renew_a nature_n and_o flow_v from_o faith_n it_o be_v the_o proper_a effect_n or_o fruit_n thereof_o but_o to_o strive_v to_o live_v a_o sober_a and_o holy_a life_n and_o obey_v god_n precept_n and_o rest_n upon_o their_o so_o do_v and_o look_v to_o be_v accept_v with_o god_n and_o justify_v thereby_o be_v that_o which_o too_o many_o of_o this_o old_a who_o cry_v out_o the_o temple_n of_o the_o lord_n or_o the_o church_n of_o god_n be_v we_o poor_a sinner_n have_v nothing_o to_o glory_n in_o unless_o it_o be_v their_o shame_n the_o publican_n cry_v out_o lord_n be_v merciful_a to_o i_o a_o sinner_n but_o the_o false_a and_o self-righteous_a professor_n like_v as_o a_o rich_a man_n glory_n in_o his_o riches_n and_o a_o strong_a man_n glory_n in_o his_o strength_n so_o he_o glory_v in_o his_o own_o righteousness_n in_o his_o spiritual_a attainment_n and_o seem_a sanctity_n and_o doubtless_o this_o be_v another_o strong_a chain_n with_o which_o the_o devil_n bind_v these_o delude_a creature_n self-confidence_n pride_n and_o vainglory_n be_v all_o of_o near_a kin_n and_o proceed_v from_o that_o horrid_a ignorance_n i_o first_o mention_v they_o be_v all_o the_o spurious_a offspring_n of_o that_o curse_a parent_n but_o why_o shall_v we_o glory_v in_o the_o lord_n or_o rejoice_v only_o in_o christ_n why_o it_o be_v 30._o and_o that_o which_o seem_v to_o feed_v and_o heighten_v this_o pride_n self-confidence_n and_o vainglory_n in_o some_o of_o these_o blind_a and_o self-deceived_n people_n be_v that_o strange_a conceit_n and_o apprehension_n they_o have_v of_o their_o own_o power_n and_o ability_n to_o do_v and_o perform_v those_o thing_n god_n require_v in_o order_n to_o their_o acceptance_n with_o he_o together_o with_o their_o false_a notion_n of_o god_n mercy_n in_o pardon_v they_o wherein_o they_o come_v short_a in_o this_o very_a respect_n the_o jew_n err_v to_o their_o eternal_a overthrow_n
