pervert_v and_o abuse_v to_o prove_v and_o establish_v justification_n by_o work_n and_o the_o merit_n of_o man_n &_o to_o overthrow_v the_o free_a justification_n we_o have_v in_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n through_o faith_n the_o hold_n which_o they_o take_v in_o this_o point_n be_v upon_o the_o speech_n and_o phrase_n which_o the_o apostle_n do_v use_v as_o when_o he_o say_v abraham_n our_o father_n be_v justify_v through_o work_n also_o rahab_n the_o harlot_n be_v justify_v through_o work_n likewise_o you_o see_v y_z e_z of_o work_n a_o man_n be_v justify_v and_o not_o of_o faith_n only_o herein_o you_o e_o two_o apostle_n of_o christ_n s._n paul_n &_o s._n james_n do_v seem_v to_o be_v flat_a contrary_n y_z e_o one_o to_o the_o other_o for_o whereas_o s._n paul_n say_v abraham_n be_v justify_v by_o faith_n alone_o and_o not_o by_o work_n saint_n james_n say_v he_o be_v justify_v by_o work_n saint_n paul_n say_v and_o prove_v by_o sundry_a and_o invincible_a reason_n that_o a_o man_n be_v justify_v by_o faith_n alone_o without_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n saint_n james_n say_v you_o see_v that_o a_o man_n be_v justify_v by_o work_n and_o not_o by_o faith_n only_o this_o contrariety_n be_v but_o in_o appearance_n for_o they_o both_o write_v by_o one_o spirit_n which_o be_v always_o like_o himself_o and_o always_o agree_v with_o himself_o the_o whole_a blame_n therefore_o be_v to_o light_v upon_o we_o that_o we_o be_v so_o dim_a sight_v as_o not_o to_o see_v how_o these_o two_o servant_n of_o god_n do_v jump_o agree_v together_o without_o any_o jar_n at_o all_o i_o think_v it_o needful_a for_o this_o cause_n before_o i_o come_v to_o handle_v the_o word_n of_o the_o text_n as_o they_o lie_v in_o order_n first_o to_o take_v away_o this_o show_n of_o discord_n if_o any_o man_n will_v demand_v what_o cause_n there_o be_v which_o make_v they_o to_o appear_v in_o outward_a show_n so_o contrary_a the_o one_o to_o the_o other_o i_o answer_v that_o although_o there_o be_v no_o contrariety_n in_o the_o matter_n itself_o which_o they_o teach_v yet_o the_o diversity_n of_o y_fw-fr e_o scholar_n which_o they_o light_v upon_o and_o the_o contrary_a affection_n of_o those_o who_o they_o instruct_v cause_v they_o to_o use_v a_o diverse_a and_o contrary_a order_n of_o teach_v saint_n paul_n have_v to_o deal_v with_o such_o as_o will_v seek_v to_o be_v justify_v part_o by_o faith_n in_o christ_n and_o part_o by_o their_o own_o deed_n or_o the_o deed_n of_o the_o law_n use_v this_o order_n first_o show_v that_o we_o be_v lose_v and_o condemn_v in_o ourselves_o than_o next_o justify_v and_o save_v through_o the_o merit_n of_o christ_n afterward_o that_o we_o be_v sanctify_v in_o he_o and_o must_v show_v forth_o the_o fruit_n of_o our_o faith_n in_o a_o pure_a and_o holy_a life_n s._n james_n light_v upon_o another_o sort_n of_o man_n which_o confess_v y_o e_o free_a justification_n through_o faith_n in_o christ_n yet_o in_o this_o they_o be_v deceive_v y_z t_z they_o do_v not_o consider_v how_o all_o those_o that_o be_v justify_v be_v sanctify_v how_o all_o those_o that_o be_v in_o christ_n jesus_n be_v new_a creature_n that_o they_o be_v new_o bear_v and_o walk_v not_o after_o the_o flesh_n but_o after_o the_o spirit_n that_o the_o true_a lively_a and_o iustifieng_v faith_n do_v bring_v forth_o the_o fruit_n of_o righteousness_n in_o a_o holy_a conversation_n now_o because_o this_o can_v be_v remoove_v or_o separate_v from_o the_o right_n and_o lively_a faith_n saint_n james_n go_v as_o it_o be_v backward_o and_o prove_v that_o where_o this_o latter_a that_o be_v to_o say_v the_o fruit_n of_o faith_n be_v want_v there_o faith_n be_v want_v and_o so_o his_o drift_n be_v to_o show_v that_o all_o ungodly_a and_o carnal_a professor_n of_o christ_n have_v but_o a_o dead_a faith_n which_o in_o no_o respect_n be_v able_a for_o to_o help_v or_o save_v they_o a_o second_o cause_n why_o they_o seem_v so_o much_o to_o differ_v be_v herein_o that_o man_n do_v not_o mark_v well_o how_o they_o handle_v not_o the_o self_n same_o matter_n nor_o have_v not_o the_o same_o drift_n for_o saint_n paul_n labour_v to_o prove_v that_o the_o true_a faith_n do_v join_v we_o to_o christ_n and_o thereby_o save_o us._n saint_n james_n here_o beat_v upon_o this_o point_n that_o the_o dead_a faith_n which_o be_v but_o a_o bare_a image_n of_o the_o right_a faith_n can_v profit_v a_o man_n this_o shall_v appear_v in_o the_o word_n of_o the_o text_n and_o also_o a_o third_o cause_n be_v that_o they_o do_v not_o take_v this_o word_n justify_v in_o the_o same_o sense_n but_o diverselye_o as_o it_o shall_v be_v prove_v afterward_o now_o will_v i_o come_v unto_o the_o text._n what_o avail_v it_o my_o brother_n though_o a_o man_n say_v he_o have_v faith_n when_o he_o have_v not_o work_v can_v the_o faith_n save_v he_o this_o be_v his_o proposition_n and_o the_o matter_n which_o he_o will_v dispute_v upon_o in_o the_o whole_a text_n follow_v thus_o much_o it_o be_v in_o effect_n that_o it_o do_v not_o avail_v a_o man_n to_o say_v he_o have_v faith_n nor_o it_o do_v not_o profit_v he_o to_o boast_v and_o brag_v as_o i_o note_v before_o why_o s._n paul_n and_o s._n james_n seem_v to_o be_v contrary_a s._n paul_n prove_v that_o we_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n take_v it_o as_o contrary_a to_o this_o word_n condemn_v for_o be_v by_o our_o sin_n guilty_a &_o to_o receive_v the_o sentence_n of_o condemnation_n we_o be_v in_o christ_n into_o who_o mystical_a body_n we_o be_v incorporate_v through_o faith_n acquit_v and_o discharge_v which_o be_v call_v justification_n this_o can_v be_v by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n because_o there_o be_v not_o perfection_n in_o the_o deed_n of_o any_o but_o even_o by_o the_o fruit_n of_o our_o faith_n we_o be_v justify_v that_o be_v declare_v to_o be_v just_a before_o man_n for_o proof_n that_o the_o scripture_n do_v use_v the_o word_n justify_v in_o this_o will_v say_v show_v i_o thy_o faith_n by_o thy_o work_n be_v it_o not_o apparent_a that_o he_o speak_v of_o that_o which_o be_v before_o man_n or_o declare_v unto_o man_n and_o not_o of_o that_o which_o be_v before_o god_n in_o like_o manner_n when_o he_o say_v abraham_n be_v justify_v by_o work_n when_o he_o offer_v his_o son_n isaac_n upon_o the_o altar_n do_v not_o y_z e_z scripture_n show_v that_o before_o god_n abraham_n be_v justify_v long_o before_o by_o faith_n if_o it_o be_v object_v again_o y_fw-fr t_o if_o may_v also_o be_v say_v how_o he_o be_v before_o y_o e_o time_n justify_v before_o man_n or_o that_o he_o have_v show_v by_o his_o deed_n unto_o man_n y_z t_z he_o do_v fear_n and_o love_n god_n and_o then_o what_o shall_v hinder_v but_o that_o it_o may_v be_v a_o increase_n of_o justification_n in_o our_o father_n abraham_n y_fw-fr t_o it_o must_v necessary_o be_v understand_v of_o that_o justification_n which_o be_v before_o man_n you_o see_v now_o y_a e_o meaning_n of_o this_o text_n and_o the_o drift_n &_o scope_n of_o the_o apostle_n be_v lay_v open_a unto_o you_o but_o my_o chief_a purpose_n be_v yet_o behind_o and_o that_o wherein_o we_o be_v to_o be_v wrought_v upon_o yet_o remain_v which_o be_v a_o more_o particular_a application_n and_o handle_n of_o this_o doctrine_n for_o we_o must_v not_o pass_v away_o thus_o with_o y_z e_z matter_n great_a difference_n between_o the_o faith_n of_o divelle_n and_o the_o faith_n of_o those_o man_n which_o believe_v and_o yet_o have_v no_o fruit_n of_o godliness_n in_o they_o the_o devil_n indeed_o do_v believe_v all_o matter_n of_o faith_n to_o be_v true_a but_o they_o do_v not_o nor_o can_v believe_v that_o they_o perteine_v any_o thing_n at_o all_o to_o they_o they_o have_v no_o hope_n of_o mercy_n but_o man_n although_o they_o be_v very_o sinful_a yet_o they_o be_v in_o hope_n y_fw-fr t_o they_o shall_v be_v save_v here_o be_v a_o great_a difference_n therefore_o and_o the_o faith_n of_o such_o man_n go_v far_o beyond_o the_o faith_n of_o devil_n the_o lord_n give_v we_o eye_n to_o see_v and_o heart_n to_o understand_v for_o i_o will_v show_v that_o the_o difference_n be_v that_o the_o faith_n of_o the_o devil_n be_v more_o perfect_a for_o what_o be_v the_o cause_n that_o the_o devil_n have_v no_o hope_n and_o the_o wicked_a man_n think_v they_o have_v hope_n be_v it_o because_o they_o have_v less_o faith_n nay_o it_o be_v because_o they_o be_v more_o wise_a and_o because_o they_o give_v credit_n to_o that_o which_o god_n have_v threaten_v against_o they_o they_o only_o in_o speech_n be_v dead_a and_o therefore_o can_v save_v or_o profit_v he_o which_o have_v it_o if_o word_n only_o can_v profit_v or_o cause_v it_o to_o be_v faith_n why_o shall_v not_o word_n also_o profit_v the_o poor_a man_n or_o woman_n which_o be_v destitute_a if_o word_n only_o can_v make_v a_o faithful_a man_n why_o shall_v not_o word_n make_v a_o liberal_a man_n if_o for_o a_o man_n no_o work_n if_o his_o faith_n be_v not_o a_o lively_a regenerate_a faith_n he_o may_v esteem_v of_o himself_o what_o he_o will_v but_o the_o lord_n tell_v we_o that_o he_o be_v no_o more_o forward_o then_o they_o divelle_n they_o be_v as_o sound_v in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o truth_n as_o he_o and_o if_o this_o common_a and_o general_a faith_n will_v serve_v they_o shall_v be_v save_v as_o well_o which_o last_v but_o for_o a_o day_n and_o not_o respect_n that_o which_o be_v eternal_a i_o must_v therefore_o here_o again_o admonish_v you_o that_o such_o as_o will_v have_v proof_n of_o their_o
