can_v see_v how_o such_o believer_n shall_v be_v judge_v by_o their_o work_n though_o infidel_n may_v but_o this_o antinomian_a conceit_n of_o justify_v faith_n be_v not_o so_o plain_a and_o certain_a as_o it_o be_v that_o we_o shall_v be_v judge_v by_o our_o work_n not_o to_o dispute_v the_o point_n now_o these_o man_n may_v be_v mistake_v in_o their_o notion_n of_o justify_v faith_n but_o there_o can_v be_v no_o dispute_n make_v what_o the_o meaning_n be_v of_o be_v judge_v according_a to_o our_o work_n thus_o when_o we_o be_v say_v to_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n in_o opposition_n to_o justification_n by_o work_n it_o be_v matter_n of_o controversy_n what_o be_v mean_v by_o work_n some_o think_v that_o when_o work_n be_v reject_v as_o contribute_v nothing_o to_o our_o justification_n the_o apostle_n mean_v only_o the_o work_n of_o the_o ceremonial_a law_n such_o as_o circumcision_n and_o sacrifice_n wash_n and_o purification_n the_o observation_n of_o new_a moon_n and_o sabbath_n etc._n etc._n for_o this_o be_v the_o great_a dispute_n st._n paul_n have_v with_o the_o jew_n whether_o the_o observation_n of_o the_o moysaicall_a law_n be_v necessary_a to_o the_o justify_v by_o they_o that_o be_v that_o no_o man_n be_v justify_v by_o the_o merit_n of_o his_o own_o work_n but_o by_o the_o merit_n and_o expiation_n of_o the_o death_n of_o christ._n but_o though_o no_o man_n be_v justify_v or_o save_v for_o the_o merit_n of_o his_o work_n yet_o he_o may_v be_v judge_v according_a to_o his_o work_n though_o no_o man_n shall_v be_v save_v by_o the_o merit_n of_o his_o good_a work_n yet_o no_o man_n shall_v be_v save_v without_o good_a work_n and_o wicked_a man_n shall_v be_v damn_v for_o their_o evil_a work_n which_o leave_v room_n enough_o for_o this_o be_v the_o true_a way_n of_o reconcile_a st._n paul_n and_o st._n james_n i_o shall_v not_o at_o present_a dispute_n but_o it_o grant_v all_o that_o i_o desire_v that_o notwithstanding_o our_o this_o doctrine_n of_o be_v judge_v by_o our_o work_n and_o those_o that_o be_v not_o be_v not_o so_o plain_a and_o certain_a as_o it_o be_v that_o we_o shall_v be_v judge_v by_o our_o work_n 3._o however_o since_o this_o be_v so_o plain_o express_v in_o scripture_n that_o there_o be_v no_o avoid_v it_o nor_o any_o other_o possible_a sense_n to_o be_v make_v of_o it_o whatever_o our_o notion_n holiness_n not_o without_o good_a work_n not_o without_o partake_v of_o the_o divine_a nature_n and_o be_v conform_v to_o christ_n our_o head_n to_o entertain_v any_o other_o hope_n will_v undo_v we_o for_o ever_o for_o we_o shall_v be_v very_o ill_o prepare_v to_o give_v a_o account_n of_o our_o life_n and_o action_n when_o our_o lord_n come_v to_o call_v we_o to_o a_o account_n if_o we_o can_v possess_v ourselves_o with_o such_o notion_n of_o justification_n as_o deliver_v we_o from_o the_o fear_n of_o judgement_n if_o we_o can_v persuade_v ourselves_o that_o we_o shall_v not_o be_v judge_v according_a to_o our_o work_n but_o by_o the_o merit_n of_o christ_n that_o we_o shall_v not_o receive_v the_o thing_n do_v in_o the_o body_n whether_o good_a or_o evil_n but_o shall_v receive_v the_o purchase_n of_o christ_n obedience_n and_o righteousness_n without_o regard_n to_o our_o own_o these_o be_v the_o dangerous_a conclusion_n which_o some_o man_n draw_v from_o their_o mistake_a notion_n of_o justification_n and_o this_o be_v the_o great_a danger_n of_o such_o mistake_n while_o man_n acknowledge_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n and_o the_o merit_n of_o christ_n in_o the_o justification_n of_o sinner_n and_o believe_v that_o they_o shall_v be_v judge_v according_a to_o their_o work_n whatever_o other_o dispute_n there_o may_v be_v there_o be_v no_o danger_n in_o they_o but_o if_o man_n by_o some_o uncertain_a reason_n can_v persuade_v themselves_o
such_o vain_a and_o groundless_a fear_n this_o aught_o to_o be_v plain_o and_o full_o state_v for_o we_o live_v in_o the_o last_o day_n and_o have_v many_o of_o these_o scoffer_n already_o among_o we_o 1._o but_o if_o god_n have_v appoint_v the_o dâ—y_n of_o judgement_n it_o be_v a_o very_a foolish_a argument_n to_o say_v that_o he_o will_v not_o judge_v the_o world_n because_o he_o have_v not_o do_v it_o yet_o unless_o we_o can_v prove_v that_o the_o day_n appoint_v for_o judgement_n be_v already_o past_a god_n can_v be_v say_v to_o delay_v to_o judge_v the_o world_n wheâ—_n the_o time_n he_o have_v appoint_v for_o judgement_n be_v not_o yet_o come_v for_o to_o delay_v do_v any_o thing_n be_v not_o to_o do_v it_o in_o its_o proper_a season_n when_o it_o be_v time_n to_o do_v it_o or_o when_o we_o resolve_v and_o determine_v to_o do_v it_o and_o therefore_o no_o man_n can_v say_v that_o god_n delay_n to_o judge_v the_o world_n unless_o he_o can_v tell_v whaâ—_n day_n god_n and_o when_o that_o be_v he_o himself_o know_v best_a for_o to_o appoint_v a_o day_n to_o judge_v the_o world_n be_v a_o work_n of_o great_a wisdom_n and_o counsel_n before_o god_n judge_v the_o world_n it_o be_v fit_a for_o he_o to_o display_v all_o the_o various_a scene_n of_o wisdom_n and_o goodness_n and_o power_n and_o justice_n in_o the_o government_n of_o the_o world_n to_o exercise_v great_a patience_n towards_o sinner_n and_o to_o make_v the_o utmost_a experiment_n to_o reform_v they_o as_o st._n peter_n tell_v we_o the_o lord_n be_v not_o slack_a concerâ—iâ—â—_n his_o promise_n as_o some_o man_n count_v slackness_n but_o be_v patient_a to_o us-ward_n not_o willing_a thâ—_n any_o shall_v perish_v but_o that_o all_o shall_v coâ—â—_n to_o repentance_n v_o 9_o 4._o when_o god_n 6_o gen._n 5_o 6_o 7._o and_o this_o be_v the_o only_a reason_n that_o can_v be_v give_v to_o justify_v so_o universal_a a_o destruction_n of_o mankind_n that_o they_o be_v universal_o wicked_a except_v one_o righteous_a family_n which_o god_n preserve_v and_o it_o seem_v very_o probable_a that_o the_o general_a state_n of_o the_o world_n will_v be_v very_o wicked_a and_o corrupt_a before_o the_o final_a destruction_n of_o the_o world_n by_o fire_n for_o we_o can_v conceive_v no_o other_o reason_n why_o god_n shall_v final_o destroy_v this_o world_n but_o to_o put_v a_o end_n to_o the_o incurable_a wickedness_n of_o men._n and_o this_o be_v the_o account_n the_o scripture_n give_v we_o of_o it_o we_o find_v everywhere_o a_o deplorable_a description_n of_o the_o wickedness_n of_o the_o last_o day_n in_o the_o last_o day_n perilous_a time_n shall_v come_v for_o man_n that_o be_v the_o generality_n of_o mankind_n shall_v be_v lover_n of_o their_o ownselve_n covetous_a boaster_n proud_a blasphemer_n disobedient_a to_o parent_n unthankful_a unholy_a without_o natural_a affection_n truce-breaker_n false_a accuser_n incontinent_a fierce_a despiser_n of_o those_o that_o be_v good_a traitor_n heady_a high-minded_a lover_n of_o pleasure_n more_o than_o lover_n of_o god_n have_v a_o form_n of_o godliness_n but_o deny_v the_o power_n thereof_o 2_o tim._n 3.1_o 2_o 3_o 4_o 5._o thus_o st._n jude_n tell_v we_o there_o shall_v be_v mocker_n iâ—_n the_o last_o time_n who_o shall_v walk_v after_o their_o own_o ungodly_a lust_n v_o 18._o and_o st._n peter_n as_o you_o hear_v that_o in_o the_o last_o day_n there_o shall_v be_v scoffer_n say_v where_o be_v the_o promise_n of_o his_o come_n and_o our_o saviour_n himself_o plain_o intimate_v what_o a_o universal_a decay_n luke_n 8._o atheism_n and_o infidelity_n shall_v great_o prevail_v in_o the_o world_n before_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n and_o by_o this_o as_o st._n john_n say_v long_o since_o we_o know_v that_o be_v the_o last_o time_n and_o this_o be_v one_o of_o the_o sign_n both_o of_o the_o destruction_n of_o jerusalem_n and_o of_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n then_o shall_v many_o be_v offend_v and_o shall_v betray_v one_o another_o and_o shall_v hate_v one_o another_o and_o many_o false_a prophet_n shall_v rise_v and_o shall_v deceive_v many_o and_o because_o iniquity_n shall_v abound_v the_o therefore_o we_o must_v not_o oppose_v our_o justification_n by_o faith_n to_o our_o be_v judge_v by_o our_o work_n for_o that_o be_v not_o to_o expound_v scripture_n but_o to_o confute_v one_o scripture_n doctrine_n by_o another_o to_o prove_v that_o we_o shall_v not_o be_v judge_v by_o our_o work_n though_o the_o scripture_n say_v we_o shall_v because_o the_o scripture_n also_o teach_v as_o what_o be_v mean_v by_o be_v judge_v according_a to_o our_o work_n at_o least_o so_o much_o must_v be_v allow_v that_o we_o must_v prefer_v that_o sense_n of_o justification_n by_o faith_n which_o agree_v with_o our_o be_v judge_v by_o our_o work_n before_o any_o other_o interpretation_n which_o contradict_v or_o overthrow_v this_o plain_a sense_n of_o a_o future_a judgement_n as_o for_o instance_n some_o by_o justify_v understand_v make_v just_a and_o righteous_a that_o to_o justify_v the_o ungodly_a be_v to_o make_v a_o wicked_a man_n good_a by_o the_o power_n and_o efficacy_n of_o faith_n but_o then_o to_o justify_v the_o ungodly_a without_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n or_o to_o make_v a_o wicked_a man_n good_a without_o good_a work_n do_v not_o find_v very_o well_o difference_n between_o be_v justify_v and_o be_v judge_v for_o if_o we_o be_v justify_v without_o work_n and_o judge_v by_o our_o work_n justify_v by_o faith_n without_o work_n but_o not_o judge_v not_o acquit_v and_o reward_v by_o faith_n without_o work_n to_o be_v justify_v and_o to_o be_v judge_v can_v signify_v the_o same_o
not_o teach_v at_o all_o or_o only_o teach_v the_o art_n of_o live_v in_o the_o world_n by_o labour_n and_o industry_n that_o god_n may_v as_o well_o judge_v man_n for_o be_v rich_a or_o poor_a when_o never_o have_v opportunity_n to_o rectify_v their_o mistake_n and_o yet_o as_o no_o man_n be_v bind_v to_o know_v what_o nature_n do_v not_o teach_v unless_o it_o be_v reveal_v to_o he_o so_o no_o man_n be_v bind_v to_o believe_v what_o he_o have_v not_o so_o much_o as_o hear_v of_o nor_o to_o believe_v every_o thing_n he_o do_v hear_v without_o sufficient_a evidence_n nor_o to_o receive_v the_o true_a faith_n of_o christ_n which_o he_o be_v never_o teach_v so_o that_o shall_v god_n divide_v the_o world_n at_o the_o last_o day_n only_o into_o believer_n and_o infidel_n this_o will_v be_v a_o very_a unequal_a distribution_n because_o great_a part_n of_o the_o world_n never_o have_v the_o faith_n of_o christ_n preach_v to_o they_o and_o though_o infidelity_n will_v condemn_v those_o man_n who_o have_v be_v instruct_v in_o the_o faith_n of_o christ_n and_o will_v not_o believe_v yet_o it_o can_v in_o reason_n and_o justice_n be_v impute_v to_o those_o man_n who_o never_o favourable_a allowance_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o then_o bad_a man_n receive_v the_o just_a desert_n of_o their_o sin_n and_o good_a man_n receive_v those_o reward_n not_o which_o they_o have_v merit_v but_o which_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n and_o the_o merit_n of_o christ_n have_v prepare_v and_o purchase_v for_o they_o this_o be_v a_o plain_a account_n how_o christian_n may_v be_v judge_v by_o their_o work_n and_o yet_o save_v by_o grace_n and_o by_o faith_n in_o christ_n and_o the_o righteousness_n and_o equity_n of_o the_o last_o judgement_n seem_v to_o entitle_v heathen_n themselves_o tho'_o they_o have_v no_o covenant_n right_o to_o it_o to_o some_o degree_n of_o this_o grace_n for_o i_o can_v think_v that_o god_n in_o judge_v the_o world_n will_v deal_v more_o reform_v his_o life_n as_o well_o as_o of_o the_o repentance_n of_o a_o christian_a that_o he_o will_v overlook_v the_o same_o defect_n and_o imperfection_n in_o the_o good_a action_n of_o heathen_n who_o live_v virtuous_a life_n who_o worship_v the_o one_o true_a god_n and_o observe_v the_o natural_a rule_n of_o sobriety_n justice_n and_o righteousness_n that_o he_o will_v in_o the_o action_n
