XXXI 1 Bezaleel and Aholiab are called and made meet for the work of the tabernacle 12 The observation of the sabbath is again commanded 18 Moses receiveth the two tables ANd the LORD spake unto Moses saying 2 See I have called by name Bezaleel the * 1 Chr. â— 20. son of Uri the son of Hur of the tribe of Judah 3 And I have filled him with the Spirit of God in wisdom and in understanding and in knowledge and in all manner of workmanship 4 To devise cunning works to work in gold in silver and in brass 5 And in cutting of stones to set them and in carving of timber to work in all manner of workmanship 6 And I behold I have given with him Aholiab the son of Ahisamach of the tribe of Dan and in the hearts of all that are wise-hearted I have put wisdom that they may make all that I have commanded thee 7 The tabernacle of the congregation and the ark of the testimony and the mercy-seat that is thereupon and all the †Heb. vessels furniture of the tabernacle 8 And the table and his furniture and the pure candlestick with all his furniture and the altar of incense 9 And the altar of burnt-offering with all his furniture and the laver and his foot 10 And the clothes of service and the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments of his sons to minister in the priests office 11 And the anointing oyl and sweet incense for the holy place according to all that I have commanded thee shall they do 12 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel saying Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep for it is a signe between me and you throughout your generations that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctifie you 14 * Chap. 20.8 Deut. 5. â—2 Ezek. 20.12 Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore for it is holy unto you Every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death for whosoever doeth any work therein that soul shall be cut off from amongst his people 15 Six days may work be done but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest †Heb. holiness holy to the LORD whosoever doth any work in the sabbath-sabbath-day he shall surely be put to death 16 Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath to observe the sabbath throughout their generations for a perpetual covenant 17 It is a signe between me and the children of Israel for ever for * Gen. 1.31 2. â— in six days the LORD made heaven and earth and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed 18 ¶ And he gave unto Moses when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sâ—nai * Deut. 9.10 two tables of testimony tables of stone written with the finger of God CHAP. XXXII 1 The people in the absence of Moses cause Aaron to make a calf 7 God is angred thereby 11 At the entreaty of Moses he is appeased 15 Moses cometh down with the tables 19 He breaketh them 20 He destroyeth the calf 22 Aarons excuse for himself 25 Moses causeth the idolaters to be slain 30 He prayeth for the people ANd when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron and said unto him * Act. â— 20 Up make us gods which shall go before us for as for this Moses the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt we wot not what is become of him 2 And Aaron said unto them Break off the golden ear-rings which are in the ears of your wives of your sons and of your daughters and bring them unto me 3 And all the people brake off the golden ear-rings which were in their ears and brought them unto Aaron 4 * 1 King 12 2â— Psal 1.6.19 And he received them at their hand and fashioned it with a graving tool after he had made it a molten calf and they said These be thy gods O Israel which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt 5 And when Aaron saw it he built an altar before it and Aaron made proclamation and said To morrow is a feast to the LORD 6 And they rose up early on the morrow and offered burnt-offerings and brought peace-offerings and the * 1 Cor. 10.7 people â—at down to eat and to drink and rose up to play 7 ¶ And the LORD â—aid unto Moses * Deut. â— 1â— Go get thee down for thy people which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves 8 They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them they have made them a molten calf and have worshipped it and have sacrificed thereunto and said These be thy gods O Israel which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt 9 And the LORD said unto Moses * Chap. 32.3 Deut. 9.13 I have seen this people and behold it is a stiff-necked people 10 Now therefore let me alone that my wrath may wax hot against them and that I may consume them and I will make of thee a great nation 11 * Psal 106.23 And Moses besought †Heb. the face of the LORD the LORD his God and said LORD why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand 12 * Numb 14.13 Wherefore should the Egyptians speak and say For mischief did he bring them out to slay them in the mountains and to consume them from the face of the earth Turn from thy fierce wrath and repent of this evil against thy people 13 Remember Abraham Isaac and Israel thy servants to whom thou swarest by thine own self and saidâ—t unto them * Gen. 12.7 and 15.7 48.16 I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed and they shall inherit it for ever 14 And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people 15 ¶ And Moses turned and went down from the mount and the two tables of the testimony were in his hand the tables were written on both their sides on the one side and on the other were they written 16 And the * Chap. 31.18 tables were the work of God and the writing was the writing of God graven upon the tables 17 And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted he said unto Moses There is a noise of war in the camp 18 And he said It is not the voice of them that shout for mastery neither is it the voice of them that cry for †Heb. â—â—akness being overcome but the noise of them that sing do I hear 19 ¶
20 ¶ And when he hath made an end of reconciling the holy place the tabernacle of the congregation the altar he shall bring the live goat 21 And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel and all their transgressions in all their sins putting them upon the head of the goat and shall send him away by the hand of †Heb. a man of opportunity a fit man into the wilderness 22 And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land †Heb. of separation not inhabited and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness 23 And Aaron shall come into the tabernacle of the congregation and shall put off the linen garments which he put on when he went into the holy place and shall leave them there 24 And he shall wash his flesh with water in the holy place and put on his garments and come forth and offer his burnt-offering and the burnt-offering of the people and make an atonement for himself and for the people 25 And the fat of the sin-offering shall he burn upon the altar 26 And he that let go the goat for the scape-goat shall wash his clothes and bathe his flesh in water and afterward come into the camp 27 * Cha. â— 20 Heb. 13 1â— And the bullock for the sin-offering and the goat for the sin-offering whose bloud was brought in to make atonement in the holy place shall one carry forth without the camp and they shall burn in the fire their skins and their flesh and their dung 28 And he that burneth them shall wash his clothes and bathe his flesh in water and afterward he shall come into the camp 29 ¶ And this shall be a statute for ever unto you that in the seventh moneth on the tenth day of the moneth ye shall afflict your souls and do no work at all whether it be one of your own countrey of a stranger that sojourneth among you 30 For on that day shall the priest make an atonement foâ— you to cleanse you that ye may be clean from all your sins before the LORD 31 It shall be a sabbath of rest unto you and ye shall afflict your souls by a statute for ever 32 And the priest whom he shall anoint and whom he shall †Heb. till his hand consecrate to minister in the priests office in his fathers stead shall make the atonement and shall put on the linen clothes even the holy garments 33 And he shall make an atonement for the holy sanctuary and â—e shall make an atonement for the tabernacle of the congregation and for the altar and he shall make an atonement for the priests and for all the people of the congregation 34 And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you to make an atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins * Exod. 30.10 Hebr. â— 7 once a year And he did as the LORD commanded Moses CHAP. XVII 1 The bloud of all slain beasts must be offered to the Lord at the door of the tabernacle 7 They must not offer to devils 10 All eating of bloud is forbidden 15 and all that dâ—th alone or is torn ANd the LORD spake unto Moses saying 2 Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons and unto all the children of Israel and say unto them This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded saying 3 What man soever there be of the house of Israel that killeth an ox or lamb or goat in the camp or that killeth it out of the camp 4 And bringeth it not unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation to offer an offering unto the LORD before the tabernacle of the LORD bloud shall be imputed unto that man he hath shed bloud and that man shall be cut off from among his people 5 To the end that the children of Israel may bring their sacrifices which they offer in the open field even that they may brâ—ng them unto the LORD unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation unto the priest and ofter them for peace-offerings unto the LORD 6 And the priest shall sprinkle the bloud upon the altar of the LORD at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation and burn the sat for a * Exod. 20.18 Chap. 4.31 sweet savour unto the LORD 7 And they shall no more offer their sacrifices unto devils after whom they have gone a whoring This shall be a statute for ever unto them throughout their generaâ—ions 8 ¶ And thou shalt say unto them whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel or of the strangers which sojourn among you that offereth a burnt-offering or sacrifice 9 And bringeth it not unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation to offer it unto the LORD even that man shall be cut off from among his people 10 ¶ And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel or of the strangers that sojourn among you that eateth any manner of bloud I will even set my face against that soul that eateth bloud and will cut him off from among his people 11 For the life of the flesh is in the bloud and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls for it is the bloud that maketh an atonement for the soul 12 Therefore I said unto the children of Israel No soul of you shall eat bloud neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat bloud 13 And whatsoever man there be of the children of Israel or of the strangers that sojourn among you †Heb. that hunteth any hunting which hunteth and catcheth any beast or fowl that may be eaten he shall even pour out the bloud thereof and cover it with dust 14 * Gen. 9.4 For it is the life of all flesh the bloud of it is for the life thereof therefore I said unto the children of Israel Ye shall eat the bloud of no manner of flesh for the life of all flesh is the bloud thereof whosoever eateth it shall be cut off 15 And every soul that eateth †Heb. a carcase that which died of it self or that which was torn with beasts whether it be one of your own countrey or a stranger he shall both wash his clothes and bathe himself in water and be unclean until the even then shall he be clean 16 But if he wash them not nor bathe his flesh then he shall bear his iniquity CHAP. XVIII 1Vnlawful marriages 19Vnlawful lusts ANd the LORD spake unto Moses saying 2 Speak unto the children of Israel and say unto them I am the LORD your God 3 After the doings of the land of Egypt wherein ye dwelt shall ye not do and after the doings of the land of Canaan whither I bring you shall ye not do neither shall ye walk in their ordinances 4 Ye shall do my judgements and
7 And when the sun is down he shall be clean and shall afterward eat of the holy things because it is his food 8 * Exod. 22.21 Ezek. 44.31 That which dieth of it self or is torn with beasts he shall not eat to defile himself therewith I am the LORD 9 They shall therefore keep mine ordinance lest they bear sin for it and die therefore if they profane it I the LORD do sanctifie them 10 There shall no stranger eat of the holy thing a sojourner of the priest or an hired servant shall not eat of the holy thing 11 But if the priest buy any foul †Heb. with the purchase of his money with his money he shall eat of it and he that is born in his house they shall eat of his meat 12 If the priests daughter also be married unto †Heb. a man a stranger a stranger she may not eat of an offering of the holy things 13 But if the priests daughter be a widow or divorced and have no childe and is returned unto her fathers house * Chap. 10.14 as in her youth she shall eat of her fathers meat but there shall no stranger eat thereof 14 ¶ And if a man eat of the holy thing unwittingly then he shall put the fifth part thereof unto it and shall give it unto the priest with the holy thing 15 And they shall not profane the holy things of the children of Israel which they offer unto the LORD 16 Or ‖ Or lade themselves with the iniquity of trespass in their eating suffer them to bear the iniquity of trespass when they eat their holy things for I the LORD do sanctifie them 17 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 18 Speak unto Aaron and to his sons and unto all the children of Israel and say unto them Whatsoever he be of the house of Israel or of the strangers in Israel that will offer his oblation for all his vows and for all his free-will-offerings which they will offer unto the LORD for a burnt offering 19 Ye shall offer at your own will a male without blemish of the beeves of the sheep or of the goats 20 * Deut. 15.21 17.1 But whatsoever hath a blemish that shall ye not offer for it shall not be acceptable for you 21 And whosoever offereth a sacrifice of peace-offerings unto the LORD to accomplish his vow or a free-will-offering in beeves or ‖ Or goats sheep it shall be perfect to be accepted there shall be no blemish therein 22 Blinde or broken or maimed or having a wen or scurvy or scabbed ye shall not offer these unto the LORD nor make an offering by fire of them upon the altar unto the LORD 23 Either a bullock or a ‖ Or kid lamb that hath any thing * Chap 21.18 superfluous or lacking in his parts that mayest thou offer for a free-will-offering but for a vow it shall not be accepted 24 Ye shall not offer unto the LORD that which is bruised or crushed or broken or cut neither shall you make any offering thereof in your land 25 Neither from a strangers hand shall ye offer the bread of your God of any of these because their corruption is in them and blemishes be in them they shall not be accepted for you 26 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 27 When a bullock or a sheep or a goat is brought forth then it shall be seven days under the dam and from the eighth day thenceforth it shall be accepted for an offering made by fire unto the LORD 28 And whether it be cow or ‖ Or she-goat ew ye shall not kill it * Deut. 22.6 and her young both in one day 29 And when ye will offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving unto the LORD offer it at your own will 30 On the same day it shall be eaten up ye shall leave * Chap. 7.15 none of it until the morrow I am the LORD 31 Therefore shall ye keep my commandments and do them I am the LORD 32 Neither shall ye profane my holy name but * Chap. 10.3 I will be hallowed among the children of Israel I am the LORD which hallow you 33 That brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God I am the LORD CHAP. XXIII 1 The feasts of the Lord. 3 The sabbath 4 The pass-over 9 The sheaf of first-fruits 15 The feast of pentecost 22 Gleanings to be left for the poor 23 The feast of trumpets 26 The day of atonement 33 The feast of tabernacles ANd the LORD spake unto Moses saying 2 Speak unto the children of Israel and say unto them Concerning the feasts of the LORD which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations even these are my feasts 3 * Ex. 20.9 Deut. 5.13 Luk. 13.14 Six days shall work be done but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest an holy convocation ye shall do no work therein it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings 4 ¶ These are the feasts of the LORD even holy convocations which ye shall proclaim in their seasons 5 * Exod. 12.18 Numb 28.16 In the fourteenth day of the first moneth at even is the LORDS pass over 6 And on the fifteenth day of the same moneth is the feast of unleavened bread unto the LORD seven days ye must eat unleavened brâ—ad 7 In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation ye shall do no servile work therein 8 But ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD seven days in the seventh day is an holy convocation ye shall do no servile work therein 9 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 10 Speak unto the children of Israel and say unto them When ye be come into the land which I give unto you and shall reap the harvest thereof then ye shall bring a ‖ Or handful †Heb. amer sheaf of the first-fruits of your harvest unto the priest 11 And he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD to be accepted for you on the morrow after the sabbath the priest shall wave it 12 And ye shall offer that day when ye wave the sheaf an he-lamb without blemish of the first year for a burnt-offering unto the LORD 13 And the meat-offering thereof shall be two tenth-deals of fine flour mingled with oyl an offering made by fire unto the LORD for a sweet savour and the drink-offering thereof shall be of wine the fourth part of an hin 14 And ye shall eat neither bread nor parched corn nor green ears until the self-same day that ye have brought an offering unto your God It shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings 15 ¶ And * Deut. 16.9 ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the sabbath from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave-offering seven sabbaths shall be compleat 16 Even unto the
morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days and ye shall offer a new-meat-offering unto the LORD 17 Ye shall bring out of your habitations two wave-loaves of two tenth-deals they shall be of fine flour they shall be baken with leaven they are the first-fruits unto the LORD 18 And ye shall offer with the bread seven lambs without blemish of the first year and one young bullock and two rams they shall be for a burnt-offering unto the LORD with their meat-offering their drink-offerings even an offering made by fire of sweet savour unto the LORD 19 Then ye shall sacrifice one kid of the goats for a sin-offering and two lambs of the first year for a sacrifice of peace-offerings 20 And the priest shall wave them with the bread of the first-fruits for a wave-offering before the LORD with the two lambs they shall be holy to the LORD for the priest 21 And ye shall proclaim on the self-same day that it may be an holy convocation unto you ye shall do no servile work therein It shall be a statute for ever in all your dwellings throughout your generations 22 ¶ And * Chap. 19.9 when ye reap the harvest of your land thou shalt not make clean riddance of the corners of thy field when thou reapest * Deut. 24.19 neither shalt thou gather any gleaning of thy harvest thou shalt leave them unto the poor and to the stranger I am the LORD your God 23 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 24 Speak unto the children of Israel saying In the * Num. 29.1 seventh moneth in the first day of the moneth shall ye have a sabbath a memorial of blowing of trumpets an holy convocation 25 Ye shall do no servile work therein but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD 26 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 27 * Chap. 16.30 Numb 29.7 Also on the tenth day of this seventh moneth there shall be a day of atonement it shall be an holy convocation unto you and ye shall afflict your souls and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD 28 And ye shall do no work in that same day for it is a day of atonement to make an atonement for you before the LORD your God 29 For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day he shall be cut off from among his people 30 And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day the same soul will I destroy from among his people 31 Ye shall do no manner of work It shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings 32 It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest and ye shall afflict your souls in the ninth day of the moneth at even from even unto even shall ye †Heb. rest celebrate your sabbath 33 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 34 Speak unto the children of Israel saying * Numb 29.12 The fifteenth day of this seventh moneth shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven days unto the LORD 35 On the first day shall be an holy convocation ye shall do no servile work therein 36 Seven days ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD * Joh. 7.37 on the eighth day shall be an holy convocation unto you and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD it is a †Heb. day of restraint solemn assembly and ye shall do no servile work therein 37 These are the feasts of the LORD which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations to offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD a burnt-offering and a meat-offering a sacrifice and drink-offerings ever thing upon his day 38 Beside the sabbaths of the LORD and beside your gifts and beside all your vows and beside all your free-will-offerings which ye give unto the LORD 39 Also in the fifteenth day of the seventh moneth when ye have gathered in the fruit of the land ye shall keep a feast unto the LORD seven days on the first day shall be a sabbath and on the eighth day shall be a sabbath 40 And ye shall take you on the first day the †Heb. fruit boughs of goodly trees branches of palm-trees and the boughs of thick trees and willows of the brook and ye shall rejoyce before the LORD your God seven days 41 And ye shall keep it a feast unto the LORD seven days in the year It shall be a statute for ever in your generations ye shall celebrate it in the seventh moneth 42 Ye shall dwell in booths seven days all that are Israelites born shall dwell in booths 43 That your generations may know that I made the children of Israel to dwell in booths when I brought them out of the land of Egypt I am the LORD your God 44 And Moses declared unto the children of Israel the feasts of the LORD CHAP. XXIV 1 The oyl for the lamps 5 The shew-bread 10 Shelomiths son blasphemeth 13 The law of blasphemy 17 Of murder 18 Of damage 23 The Hasphemer is stoned ANd the LORD spake unto Moses saying 2 Command the children of Israel that they bring unto thee pure oyl-olive beaten for the light †Heb to cause to ascend to cause the lamps to burn continually 3 Without the vail of the testimony in the tabernacle of the congregation shall Aaron order it from the evening unto the morning before the LORD continually It shall be a statute for ever in your generations 4 He shall order the lamps upon * Exod. 31.8 the pure candlestick before the LORD continually 5 ¶ And thou shalt take fine flour and bake twelve * Exod. 25.30 cakes thereof two tenth-deals shall be in one cake 6 And thou shalt set them in two rows six on a row upon the pure table before the LORD 7 And thou shalt put pure frankincense upon each row that it may be on the bread for a memorial even an offering made by fire unto the LORD 8 Every sabbath he shall set it in order before the LORD continually being taken from the children of Israel by an everlasting covenant 9 And * Exod. 29.33 Chap. 8.31 Mat. 12.4 it shall be Aarons and his sons and they shall eat it in the holy place for it is most holy unto him of the offerings of the LORD made by fire by a perpetual statute 10 ¶ And the son of an Israelitish woman whose father was an Egyptian went out among the children of Israel and this son of the Israelitish woman and a man of Israel strove together in the camp 11 And the Israelitish womans son blasphemed the Name of the LORD and cursed and they brought him unto Moses and his mothers name was Shelomith the daughter of Dibri of the tribe of Dan 12 And they * Numb 15.34 put him in ward †Heb. to expound unto them according to
and earth to witness against you this day that ye shall soon utterly perish from off the land whereunto you go over Jordan to possess it ye shall not prolong your days upon it but shall utterly be destroyed 27 And the LORD shall scatter you among the nations and ye shall be left few in number among the heathen whither the LORD shall lead you 28 And there ye shall serve gods the work of mens hands wood and stone which neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell 29 But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God thou shalt finde him if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul 30 When thou art in tribulation and all these things †Heb. have found thee are come upon thee even in the latter days if thou turn to the LORD thy God and shalt be obedient unto his voice 31 For the LORD thy God is a merciful God he will not forsake thee neither destroy thee nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them 32 For ask now of the days that are past which were before thee since the day that God created man upon the earth and ask from the one side of heaven unto the other whether there have been any such thing as this great thing is or hath been heard like it 33 Did ever people hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire as thou hast heard and live 34 Or hath God assayed to go and take him a nation from the midst of another nation by temptations by signs and by wonders and by war and by a mighty hand and by a stretched-out arm and by great terrours according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes 35 Unto thee it was shewed that thou mightest know that the LORD he is God there is none else beside him 36 Out of heaven he made thee to hear his voice that he might instruct thee and upon earth he shewed thee his great fire and thou heardest his words out of the midst of the fire 37 And because he loved thy fathers therefore he chose their seed after them and brought thee out in his sight with his mighty power out of Egypt 38 To drive out nations from before thee greater and mightiâ—â— then thou art to bring thee in to give thee their land for an inheritance as it is this day 39 Know therefore this day and consider it in thine heart that the LORD he is God in heaven above and upon the earth beneath there is none else 40 Thou shalt keep therefore his statutes and his commandments which I command thee this day that it may go well with thee and with thy children after thee and that thou mayest prolong thy days upon the earth which the LORD thy God giveth thee for ever 41 ¶ Then Moses severed three cities on this side Jordan toward the sun-rising 42 That the slayer might flee thither which should kill his neighbour unawares and hated him not in times past and that fleeing unto one of these cities he might live 43 Namely * Jos 20.8 Bezer in the wilderness in the plain-countrey of the Reubenites and Ramoth in Gilead of the Gadites and Golan in Bashan of the Manassites 44 ¶ And this is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel 45 These are the testimonies and the statutes and the judgements which Moses spake unto the children of Israel after they came forth out of Egypt 46 On this side Jordan in the valley over against Beth-peor in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites who dwelt at Heshbon whom Moses and the children of Israel * Numb 21.24 Chap. 1.4 smote after they were come forth out of Egypt 47 And they possessed his land and the land * Numb 21.33 Chap. 3.3 of Og king of Bashan two kings of the Amorites which were on this side Jordan toward the sun-rising 48 From Aroer which is by the bank of the river Arnon even unto mount Sion which is Hermon 49 And all the plain on this side Jordan east-ward even unto the sea of the plain under the * Chap. 3.17 springs of Pisgah CHAP. V. 1 The covenant in Horeb. 6 The ten commandments 22 At the peoples request Moses receiveth the law from God ANd Moses called all Israel and said unto them Hear O Israel the statutes and judgements which I speak in your ears this day that ye may learn them and †Heb. keep to do them keep and do them 2 * Ex. 19.5 The LORD our God made a covenant with us in Horeb. 3 The LORD made not this covenant with our fathers but with us even us who are all of us here alive this day 4 The LORD talked with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire 5 I stood between the LORD and you at that time to shew you the word of the LORD for ye were afraid by reason of the fire and went not up into the mount saying 6 ¶ * Exod. 20.2 c. Lev. 26.1 Psal 81.10 I am the LORD thy God which brought the out of the land of Egypt from the house of †Heb. servants boudage 7 Thou shalt have none other gods before me 8 Thou shalt not make thee any graven image or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above or that is in the earth beneath or that is in the waters beneath the earth 9 Thou shalt not bow down thy self unto them nor serve them for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God * Exod. 34.7 visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me 10 * Jer. 3â— 18. And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments 11 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain 12 Keep the sabbath-day to sanctifie it as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee 13 Six days thou shalt labour and do all thy work 14 But the seventh day is the * Gen. 2.2 Heb. 4.4 sabbath of the LORD thy God in it thou shalt not do any work thou nor thy son nor thy daughter nor thy man-servant nor thy maid-servant nor thine ox nor thine asâ— nor any of thy cattel nor thy stranger that is within thy gates that thy man servant and thy maid-servant may rest as well as thou 15 And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath-day 16 ¶ Honour thy father and thy mother as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee that thy days may be prolonged and that it may go well with thee in the
alone and through none other by me also they shall be ended and by none other 7 Then answered I and said What shall be the parting asunder of the times or when shall be the end of the first and the beginning of it that followeth 8 And he said unto me From Abraham unto Isaac when Jacob and Esau were born of him * Gen. 25.26 Jacobs hand held ‖ Or from the beginning first the heel of Esau 9 For Esau is the end of the world and Jacob is the beginning of it that followeth 10 The hand of man is betwixt the heel and the hand other question Esdras ask thou not 11 ¶ I answered then and said O Lord that bearest rule if I have found favour in thy sight 12 I beseech thee shew thy servant the end of thy tokens whereof thou shewedst me part the last night 13 So he answered and said unto me Stand up upon thy feet and hear a mighty sounding voice 14 And it shall be as it were a great ‖ Or earthquake motion but the place where thou standest shall not be moved 15 And therefore when it speaketh be not afraid for the word is of the end and the foundation of the earth is understood 16 And way because the speech of these things trembleth and is moved for it knoweth that the end of these things must be changed 17 And it hapned that when I had heard it I stood up upon my feet and hearkned and behold there was a voice that spake and the sound of it was like the sound of many waters 18 And it said Behold the days come that I will begin to draw nigh and to vnit them that dwell upon the earth 19 And will begin to make inquisition of them what they be that have hurt unjustly with their unrighteousness and when the affliction of Sion shall be fulfilled 20 And when the world that shall begin to vanish away shall be ‖ Ot â—â—aâ—â—d finished then will I shew these tokens the books shall be opened before the firmament and they shall see all together 21 And the children of a year old shall speak with their voices the women with childe shall bring forth untimely children of three or four moneths old and they shall live and be raised up 22 And suddenly shall the sown places appear unsown the full store-houses shall suddenly be found empty 23 And the trumpet shall give a sound which when every man heareth they shall be suddenly afraid 24 At that time shall friends fight one against another like enemies and the earth shall stand in fear with those that dwell therein the springs of the fountains shall stand still and in three hours they shall not run 25 Whosoever remaineth from all these that I have told thee shall escape and see my salvation and the end of your world 26 And the men that are received shall see it who have not tasted death from their birth and the heart of the inhabitants shall be changed and turned into another meaning 27 For evil shall be put out and deceit shall be quenched 28 As for faith it shall flourish corruption shall be overcome and the truth which hath been so long without fruit shall be declared 29 And when he talked with me behold I looked by little and little upon him before whom I stood 30 And these words said he unto me I am come to shew thee the time of the night to come 31 If thou wilt pray yet more and fast seven days again I shall tell thee greater things ‖ See ch 13. vers 52. by day then I have heard 32 For thy voice is heard before the most High for the Mighty hath seen thy righteous dealing he hath seen also thy chastity which thou hast had ever since thy youth 33 And therefore hath he sent me to shew thee all these things and to say unto thee Be of good comfort and fear not 34 And hasten not with the times that are past to think vain things that thou mayest not hasten from the latter times 35 And it came to pass after this that I wept again and fasted seven days in like manner that I might fulfiâ— the three weeks which he told me 36 And in the eighth night was my heart vexed within me again and I began to speak before the most High 37 For my spirit was greatly set on fire and my soul was in distress 38 And I said O Lord thou speakest from the beginning of the creation even the first day and saidest thus * Gen. â— 1 Let heaven and earth be made and thy word was a perfect work 39 And then was the spirit and darknesses and silence were on every side the sound of mans voice was not yet formed 40 Then commandedst thou a fair light to come forth of thy treasures that thy work might appear 41 Upon the second day thou madest the spirit of the firmament and commandedst it to part asunder and to make a division betwixt the waters that the one part might go up and the other remain beneath 42 Upon the third day thou didst command that the waters should be gathered in the seventh part of the earth six parts hast thou died up and kept them to the intent that of these some being planted of God and tilled might serve thee 43 For as soon as thy word went forth the work was made 44 For immediately there weâ— great and innumerable fruit and many and divers pleasures for the taste and flowers of unchangeable colour and odours of wonderful smell and this was done the third day 45 * Gen. 1.14 Upon the fourth day thou commandedst that the sun should shine and the moon give her light and the stars should be in order 46 And gavest them a charge to do * Gen. 1.15 Deut. 4.19 service unto man that was to be made 47 Upon the fifth day thou saidest unto the seventh part * Gen. 1.20 where the waters were gathered that it should bring forth living creatures fowls and fishes and so it came to pass 48 For the dumb water and without life brought forth living things at the commandment of God that all people might praise thy wondrous works 49 Then didst thou ordain two living creatures the one thou calledâ—t ‖ Bebemoth Enoch and the other Leviathan 50 And didst separate the one from the other for the seventh part namely where the water was gathered together might not hold them both 51 Unto Enoch thou gavest one part which was dried up the third day that he should dwell in the same part wherein are a thousand hills 52 But unto Leviathan thou gavest the seventh part namely the moist and hast kept him to be devoured of whom thou wilt and when 53 Upon the sixth day thou gavest commandment unto the earth that before thee it should bring forth beasts cattel and creeping things 54 And after these Adam also whom thou madest lord of all thy creatures
prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land and he sat down and taught the people out of the ship 4 Now when he had left speaking he said unto Simon Lanch out into the deep and let down your nets for a draught 5 And Simon answering said unto him Master we have toiled all the night and have taken nothing nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net 6 And when they had this done they enclosed a great multitude of fishes and their net brake 7 And they beckned unto their partners which were in the other ship that they should come and help them And they came and filled both the ships so that they began to sink 8 When Simon Peter saw it he fell down at Jesus knees saying Depart from me for I am a sinful man O Lord. 9 For he was astonished and all that were with him at the draught of the fishes which they had taken 10 And so was also James and John the sons of Zebedee which were partners with Simon And Jesus said unto Simon Fear not from henceforth thou shalt catch men 11 And when they had brought their ships to land they forsook all and followed him 12 ¶ * Mat. 8.2 And it came to pass when he was in a certain city behold a man full of leprosie who seeing Jesus fell on his face and besought him saying Lord if thou wilt thou canst make me clean 13 And he put forth his hand and touched him saying I will be thou clean And immediately the leprosie departed from him 14 And he charged him to tell no man but go and shew thy self to the priest and offer for thy cleansing according as Moses commanded for a testimony unto them 15 But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him and great multitudes came together to hear and to be healed by him of their infirmities 16 ¶ And he withdrew himself into the wilderness and prayed 17 And it came to pass on a certain day as he was teaching that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by which were come out of every town of Galilee and Judea and Jerusalem and the power of the Lord was present to heal them 18 ¶ * Mat. 9.2 And behold men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsie and they sought means to bring him in and to lay him before him 19 And when they could not finde by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude they went upon the house-top and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus 20 And when he saw their faith he said unto him Man thy sins are forgiven thee 21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason saying Who is this which speaketh blasphemies Who can forgive sins but God alone 22 But when Jesus perceived their thoughts he answering said unto them What reason ye in your hearts 23 Whether is easier to say Thy sins be forgiven thee or to say Rise up and walk 24 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins he said unto the sick of the palsie I say unto thee Arise and take up thy couch and go into thine house 25 And immediately he rose up before them and took up that whereon he lay and departed to his own house glorifying God 26 And they were all amazed and they glorified God and were filled with fear saying We have seen strange things to day 27 ¶ * Matth. 9.9 And after these things he went forth and saw a publican named Levi sitting at the receit of custom and he said unto him Follow me 28 And he left all rose up and followed him 29 And Levi made him a great feast in his own house and there was a great company of publicans of others that sat down with them 30 But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples saying Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners 31 And Jesus answering said unto them They that are whole need not a physician but they that are sick 32 I came not to call the righteous but sinners to repentance 33 ¶ And they said unto him * Matth. 3.14 Why do the disciples of John fast often and make prayers and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees but thine eat and drink 34 And he said unto them Can ye make the children of the bride-chamber fast while the bridegroom is with them 35 But the days will come when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them and then shall they fast in those days 36 ¶ And he spake also a parable unto them No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old if otherwise then both the new maketh a rent the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old 37 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles else the new wine will burst the bottles and be spilled and the bottles shall perish 38 But new wine must be put into new bottles both are preserved 39 No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new for he saith The old is better CHAP. VI. 1 Christ reproveth the Pharisees blindness about the observation of the sabbath by scripture reason and miracle 13 chooseth twelve apostles 17 healeth the diseased 20 preacheth to his disciples before the people of blessings and curses 27 how we must love our enemies 46 and joyn the obedience of good works to the hearing of the word lest in the evil day of temptation we fall like an house built upon the face of the earth without any foundation ANd * Matth. 12 1. it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first that he went through the corn-fields and his disciples plucked the ears of corn and did eat rubbing them in their hands 2 And certain of the Pharisees said unto them Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath-days 3 And Jesus answering them said Have ye not read so much as this what David did when himself was an hungred and they which were with him 4 How he went into the house of God and did take and eat the shew-bread and gave also to them that were with him which is not lawful to eat but for the priests alone 5 And he said unto them That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath 6 * Matth. 12.9 And it came to pass also on another sabbath that he entred into the synagogue and taught and there was a man whose right hand was withered 7 And the scribes and Pharisees watched him whether he would heal on the sabbath-day that they might finde an accusation against him 8 But he knew their thoughts and said to the man which had the withered hand Rise up and stand forth in the midst And he arose and stood forth 9 Then said Jesus unto them I will ask you one thing
〈◊〉 〈◊〉 〈◊〉 holy or just things which word the Septuag both in the place of Isa 55.3 and in many others use for that which is in the Hebrew mercies mercies of David 35 Wherefore he saith also in another psalm * Psal 16.10 Thou shalt not suffer thine holy one to see corruption 36 For David ‖ Or after he had in his own age served the will of God after he had served his own generation by the will of God * 1 Kings 2.10 fell on sleep and was laid unto his fathers saw corruption 37 But he whom God raised again saw no corruption 38 ¶ Be it known unto you therefore men and brethren that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins 39 And by him all that beleeve are justified from all things from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses 40 Beware therefore left that come upon you which is spoken of in * Hab. 1.5 the prophets 41 Behold ye despisers and wonder and perish for I work a work in your days a work which you shall in no wise beleeve though a man declare it unto you 42 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them †Gr. in the week between or in the sabbath between the next sabbath 43 Now when the congrâ—gation was broken up many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas who speaking to them perswaded them to continue in the grace of God 44 ¶ And the next sabbath-day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God 45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes they were filled with envy and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul contradicting and blaspheming 46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold and said It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you but seeing ye put it from you and judge your selves unworthy of everlasting life lo we turn to the Gentiles 47 For so hath the Lord commanded us saying * Isa 49.6 I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth 48 And when the Gentiles heard this they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord and as many as were ordained to eternal life beleeved 49 And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region 50 But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women and the chief men of the city and raised perfection against Paul and Barnabas and expeâ—sed them out of their coasts 51 * Matth. 10.14 But they shook off the dust of their feet against them and came unto Iconium 52 And the disciples were filled with joy and with the holy Ghost CHAP. XIV 1 Paul and Barnabas are persecuted from Iconium 8 At Lystra Paul healeth a creeple whereupon they are reputed as gods 19 Paul is stoned 21 They pass through divers churches confirming the disciples in faith and patience 26 Returning to Antioch they report what God had done with them ANd it came to pass in Iconium that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews and so spake that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks beleeved 2 But the unbeleeving Jews stirred up the Gentiles and made their minds evil-affected against the brethren 3 Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord which gave testimony unto the word of his grace and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands 4 But the multitude of the city was divided and part held with the Jews and part with the apostles 5 And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles and also of the Jews with their rulers to use them despitefully to stone them 6 They were ware of it and fled unto Lystra and Derbe cities of Lycaonia and unto the region that lieth round about 7 And there they preached the gospel 8 ¶ And there sat a certain man at Lystra impotent in his feet being a creeple from his mothers womb who never had walked 9 The same heard Paul speak who stedfastly beholding him and perceiving that he had saith to be healed 10 Said with a loud voice Stand up right on thy feet And he leaped and walked 11 And when the people saw what Paul had done they lift up their voices saying in the speech of Lycaonia The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men 12 And they called Barnabas Jupiter and Paul Mercurius because he was the chief speaker 13 Then the priest of Jupiter which was before their city brought oxen and garlands unto the gates and would have done sacrifice with the people 14 Which when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of they rent their clothes and ran in among the people crying our 15 And saying Sirs why do ye these things We also are men of like passions with you and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God * Gen. 1.1 Psal 146.6 Rev. 14.7 which made heaven and earth and the sea and all things that are therein 16 * Psal 81 12. Who in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways 17 Nevertheless he left not himself without witness in that he did good and gave us rain from heaven and fruitful seasons filling our hearts with food and gladness 18 And with these sayings scarce restrained they the people that they had not done sacrifice unto them 19 ¶ And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium who perswaded the people * 2 Cot. 11.23 and having stoned Paul drew him out of the city supposing he had been dead 20 Howbeit as the disciples stood round about him he rose up and came into the city the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe 21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city and had taught many they returned again to Lystra and to Iconium Antioch 22 Confirming the souls of the disciples and exhorting them to continue in the faith and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God 23 And when they had ordained them elders in every church and had prayed with fasting they commended them to the Lord on whom they beleeved 24 And after they had passed throughout Pisidia they came to Pamphylia 25 And when they had preached the word in Perga they went down into Attalia 26 And thence sailed to Antioch from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled 27 And when they were come and had gathered the church together they rehearsed all that God had done with them and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles 28 And there they abode long time with the disciples CHAP. XV. 1 Great dissention ariseth touching circumcision 6 The apostles
because it is of Moses * Gen. 17.10 but of the fathers and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man 23 If a man on the sabbath-day receive circumcision ‖ Or without breaking the law of Moses that the law of Moses should not be broken are ye angry at me because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath-day 24 * Deu. 1.16 Judge not according to the appearance but judge righteous judgemenâ— 25 Then said some of them of Jerusalem Is not this he whom they seek to kill 26 But lo he speaketh boldly and they say nothing unto him do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ 27 Howbeit we know this man whence he is but when Christ cometh no man knoweth whence he is 28 Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught saying Ye both know me and ye know whence I am and I am not come of my self but he that sent me is true whom ye know not 29 But I know him for I am from him and he hath sent me 30 Then they sought to take him but no man laid hands on him because his hour was not yet come 31 And many of the people beleeved on him and said When Christ cometh will he do mo miracles then these which this man hath done 32 ¶ The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him 33 Then said Jesus unto them Yet a little while am I with you and then I go unto him that sent me 34 * Chap. 1â— 33 Ye shall seek me and shall not finde me and where I am thither ye cannot come 35 Then said the Jews among themselves Whither will he go that we shall not finde lam will he go unto the dispersed among the ‖ Or Greeks Gentiles and teach the Gentiles 36 What manner of saying is this that he said Ye shall seek me and shall not finde me and where I am thither ye cannot come 37 * Levit. 23.36 In the last day that great day of the feast Jesus stood and cried saying If any man thirst let him come unto me and drink 38 * Deut. 18.15 He that beleeveth on me as the scripture hath said out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water 39 * Isa 44. â— Joel 2.28 But this spake he of the Spirit which they that beleeve on him should receive for the holy Ghost was not yet given because that Jesus was not yet glorified 40 ¶ Many of the people therefore when they heard this saying said Of a truth this is the prophet 41 Others said This is the Christ But some said Shall Christ come out of Galilee 42 * Mat. 2.5 Hath not the scripture said That Christ cometh of the seed of David and out of the town of Bethlehem where David was 43 So there was a division among the people because of him 44 And some of them would have taken him but no man laid hands on him 45 ¶ Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees and they said unto them Why have ye not brought him 46 The officers answered Never man spake like this man 47 Then answered them the Pharisees Are ye also deceived 48 Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees beleeved on him 49 But this people who knowâ—th not the law are cursed 50 Nichodemus saith unto them * Ch. 3.2 he that came to Jesus by night being one of them 51 * Deu. 17.8 c. 19.15 Doth our law judge any man before it hear him and know what he doeth 52 They answered and said unto him Art thou also of Galilee Search and look for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet 53 And every man wâ—nt unto his own house CHAP. VIII 1 Christ delivereth the woman taken in adultery 12 He preacheth himself the light of the world and justifieth his doctrine 33 answereth the Jews that boasted of Abraham 59 and conveyeth himself from their cruelty JEsus went unto the mount of Olives 2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple and all the people came unto him and he sat down and taught them 3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery and when they had set her in the midst 4 They say unto him Master this woman was taken in adultery in the very act 5 * Levit. 2â— 10 Now Moses in the law commanded us that such should be stoned but what sayest thou 6 This they said tempting him that they might have to accuse him But Jesus stooped down and with his finger wrote on the ground as though he heard them not 7 So when they continued asking him he lift up himself and said unto them * Deu. 17.7 He that is without sin among you let him first cast a stone at her 8 And again he stooped down and wrote on the ground 9 And they which heard it being convicted by their own conscience went out one by one beginning at the eldest even unto the last and Jesus was left alone and the woman standing in the midst 10 When Jesus had lift up himself and saw none but the woman he said unto her Woman where are those thine accusers hath no man condemned thee 11 She said No man Lord. And Jesus said unto her Neither do I condemn thee go and sin no more 12 ¶ Then spake Jesus again unto them saying * Chap. 1.5 and 9.3 I am the light of the world he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life 13 The Pharisees therefore said unto him Thou bearest record of thy self thy record is not true 14 Jesus answered and said unto them * Cha. 5.31 Though I hear record of my self yet my record is true for I know whence I came and whither I go but ye cannot â—ell whence I come and whither I go 15 Ye judge after the flesh I judge no man 16 And yâ—t if I judge my judgement is true for I am not alone but I and the Father that sent me 17 * Deu. 17.6 Mat. 18 1â— It is also written in your law that the testimony of two men is true 18 I am one that bear witness of my self and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me 19 Then said they unto him Where is thy Father Jesus answered Ye neither know me nor my Father if ye had known me ye should have known my Father also 20 These words spake Jesus in the treasury as he taught in the temple and no man laid hands on him for his hour was not yet come 21 Then said Jesus again unto them I go my way and ye shall seek me and shall die in your sins whither I go ye cannot come 22 Then said the Jews Will he kill himself because he saith Whither I go ye cannot come 23 And he said unto them Ye are
my name 9 Behold I will make them of the synagogue of Satan which say they are Jews and are not but do lie behold I will make them to come and worship before thy feet and to know that I have loved thee 10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation which shall come upon all the world to try them that dwell upon the earth 11 Behold I come quickly hold that fast which thou hast that no man take thy crown 12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God and he shall go no more out and I will write upon him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God which it new Jerusalem which cometh down out of heaven from my God and I will write upon him my new name 13 He that hath an ear let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches 14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write ‖ Or in Laodius These things saith the Amen the faithful and true witness the beginning of the creation of God 15 I know thy works that thou art neither cold nor hot I would thou wert cold or hot 16 So then because thou art luke-warm and neither cold nor hot I will spue thee out of my mouth 17 Because thou sayest I am rich and increased with goods and have need of nothing and knowest not that thou art wretched and miserable and poor and blinde and naked 18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire that thou mayest be rich and white raiment that thou mayest be clothed and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear and anoint thine eyes with eye-salve that thou mayest see 19 * Pr. 2. â—â— Heb. 12. â— As many as I love I rebuke and chasten be zealous therefore and repent 20 Behold I stand at the door and knock If any man hear my voice and open the door I will come in to him and will sup with him and he with me 21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne even as I also overcame and am set down with my Father in his throne 22 He that hath an ear let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches CHAP. IV. 2 John seeth the throne of God in heaven 4 The four and twenty elders 6 The four beasts full of eves before and behinde 10 The elders lay down their crowns and worship him that sat on the throne AFter this I looked and behold a door was opened in heaven and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me which said Come up hither and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter 2 And immediately I was in the spirit and behold a throne was set in heaven and one sat on the throne 3 And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper a sardine stone there was a rainbowe round about the throne in sight like unto an emerald 4 And round about the throne were four and twenty seats and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting clothed in white raiment and they had on their heads crowns of gold 5 And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thundrings and voices And there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne which are the seven Spirits of God 6 And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal And in the midst of the throne and round about the throne were four beasts full of eyes before and behinde 7 And the first beast was like a lion and the second beast like a calf and the third beast had a face as a man and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle 8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him and they were full of eyes within and †Gr. they have no rest they rest not day and night saying * Isa 6.3 Holy holy holy Lord God Almighty which was and is is to come 9 And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne who liveth for ever and ever 10 The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne and worship him that liveth for ever and ever and cast their crowns before the throne saying 11 * Ch. 5.12 Thou art worthy O Lord to receive glory and honour and power for thou hast created all things and for thy pleasure they are and were created CHAP. V. 1 The book sealed with seven seals 9 which onely the Lamb that was slain is worthy to open 12 Therefore the elders praise him 9 and confess that he redeemed them with his blood ANd I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside sealed with seven seals 2 And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice Who is worthy to open the book and to loose the seals thereof 3 And no man in heaven nor in earth neither under the earth was able to open the book neither to look thereon 4 And I wept much because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book neither to look thereon 5 And one of the elders saith unto me Weep not behold * Gen. 19.9 the Lion of the tribe of Judah the root of David hath prevailed to open the book and to loose the seven seals thereof 6 And I behold and lo in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts and in the midst of the elders stood a Lamb as it had been slain having seven horns and seven eyes which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth 7 And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne 8 And when he had taken the book the four beasts and four and twenty eiders fell down before the Lamb having every one of them harps and golden vials full of ‖ Or inâ—nse odours which are the prayers of saints 9 And they sung a new song saying Thou art worthy to take the book and to open the seals thereof for thou wast slain and hast redeemed us to God by thy bloud out of every kindred and tongue and people and nation 10 * 1 Pet. 2.9 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests and we shall reign on the earth 11 And I beheld and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders and the number of them was * Dan. 7.10 ten thousand times ten thousand and thousands of thousands 12 Saying with a loud voice Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honour and glory and blessing 13 And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under
36 But I said unto you that ye also have seen me and beleeve not 37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out 38 For I came down from heaven not to do mine own will but the will of him that sent me 39 And this is the Fathers will which hath sent me that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing but should raise it up again at the last day 40 And this is the will of him that sent me that every one which seeth the Son and beleeveth on him may have everlasting life and I will raise him up at the last day 41 The Jews then murmured at him because he said I am the bread which came down from heaven 42 And they said * Mat. 23.55 Is not this Jesus the son of Joseph whose father and mother we know how is it then that he saith I came down from heaven 43 Jesus therefore answered and said unto them Murmure not among yourselves 44 No man can come to me except the Father which hath sent me draw him and I will raise him up at the last day 45 * Is 54.13 Jer. 31.34 It is written in the prophets And they shall be all taught of God Every man therefore that hath heard and hath learned of the Father cometh unto me 46 Not that any man hath seen the Father * Mat. 11.27 save he which is of God he hath seen the Father 47 Verily verily I say unto you He that beleeveth on me hath everlasting life 48 I am that bread of life 49 Your fathere did eat manna in the wilderness and are dead 50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven that a man may eat thereof and not die 51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven if any man eat of this bread he shall live for ever and the bread that I will give is my flesh which I will give for the life of the world 52 The Jews therefore strove amongst themselves saying How can this man give us his flesh to eat 53 Then Jesus said unto them Verily verily I say unto you Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blond ye have no life in you 54 Whoso eateth my flesh and drinketh my bloud hath eternal life and I will raise him up at the last day 55 For my flesh is meat indeed and my blond is drink indeed 56 He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blond dwelleth in me and I in him 57 As the living Father hath sent me and I live by the Father so he that eateth me even he shall live by me 58 This is that bread which came down from heaven not as your fathers did eat manna and are dead he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever 59 These things said he in the synagogue as he taught in Capernaum 60 Many therefore of his disciples when they had heard this said This is an hard saying who can hear it 61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it he said unto them Doth this offend you 62 * Chap. 3 1â— What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before 63 It is the spirit that quickneth the flesh profiteth nothing the words that I speak unto you they are spirit and they are life 64 But there are some of you that beleeve not For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that beleeved not and who should betray him 65 And he said Therefore said I unto you that no man can come unto me except it were given unto him of my Father 66 ¶ From that time many of his disciples went back and walked no more with him 67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve Will ye also go away 68 Then Simon Peter answered him Lord to whom shall we go thou hast the words of eternal life 69 * Mat. 16 1â— And we beleeve and are sure that thou art that Christ the Son of the living God 70 Jesus answered them Have not I chosen you twelve and one of you is a devil 71 He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon for he it was that should betray him being one of the twelve CHAP. VII 1 Jesus reproveth the ambition and heldness of his kinsmen 10 goeth up from Galilee to the feast of tabernacles 14 teacheth in the temple 40 Divers opinions of him among the people 45 The Pharisees are angry that their officers took him not chide with Nicodemus for taking his part AFter these things Jesus walked in Galilee for he would not walk in Jury because the Jews sought to kill him 2 * Levit. 23.34 Now the Jews feast of tabernacles was at hand 3 His brethren therefore said unto him Depart hence and go into Judea that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest 4 For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret and he himself seeketh to be known openly If thou do these things shew thy self to the world 5 For neither did his brethren beleeve in him 6 Then Jesus said unto them My time is not yet come but your time is alway ready 7 The world cannot hate you but me it hateth because I testifie of it that the works thereof are evil 8 Go ye up unto this feast I go not up yet unto this feast * Chap. 8.20 for my time is not yet full come 9 When he had said these words unto them he abode still in Galilee 10 ¶ But when his brethren were gone up then went he also up unto the feast not openly but as it were in secret 11 Then the Jews sought him at the feast and said Where is he 12 And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him for some said He is a good man others said Nay but he deceiveth the people 13 Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews 14 ¶ Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and taught 15 And the Jews marvelled saying How knoweth this man ‖ Or learning letters having never learned 16 â—esus answered them and said My doctrine is not mine but his that sent me 17 If any man will do his will he shall know of the doctrine whether it be of God or whether I speak of my self 18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory but he that seeketh his glory that sent him the same is true and no unrighteousness is in him 19 * Exod. 24.2 Did not Mosâ—s give you the law and yet none of you keepeth the law * Ch. 5.18 Why go ye about to kill me 20 The people anâ—wered and said Thou hast a devil who goeth about to kill thee 21 Jesus answered and said unto them I have done one work and ye all marvel 22 * Levit. 12.3 Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision not
