christ_n do_v in_o this_o life_n more_o increase_v their_o hunger_n then_o satisfy_v their_o appetite_n and_o more_o increase_v their_o thirst_n after_o he_o they_o have_v few_o example_n and_o present_a pattern_n of_o holy_a man_n to_o follow_v the_o number_n of_o believer_n be_v small_a and_o so_o there_o be_v but_o few_o help_n and_o encouragement_n in_o true_a religion_n the_o gift_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v rare_a scarce_o to_o be_v find_v in_o two_o or_o three_o among_o a_o great_a multitude_n and_o those_o gift_n of_o knowledge_n faith_n and_o heavenly_a wisdom_n which_o those_o few_o have_v be_v small_a and_o not_o so_o eminent_a but_o the_o lord_n have_v open_v to_o we_o the_o window_n and_o floodgate_n of_o heaven_n and_o rain_v down_o more_o abundant_o all_o blessing_n upon_o our_o head_n he_o have_v make_v the_o river_n of_o life_n which_o glad_v the_o city_n of_o god_n flow_v among_o we_o in_o full_a stream_n he_o have_v feed_v we_o to_o the_o full_a with_o the_o bread_n of_o life_n so_o that_o hypocrite_n begin_v like_o israel_n to_o loathe_v his_o heavenly_a manna_n we_o live_v in_o the_o glorious_a light_n and_o see_v christ_n clear_o we_o have_v many_o example_n of_o godly_a man_n on_o every_o side_n round_o about_o we_o to_o provoke_v we_o many_o pattern_n to_o work_v by_o much_o encouragement_n plenty_n of_o all_o gift_n of_o learning_n knowledge_n wisdom_n faith_n love_n and_o the_o like_a now_o how_o come_v this_o to_o pass_v be_v it_o because_o we_o be_v better_a than_o our_o forefather_n or_o because_o we_o have_v better_o deserve_v sure_o in_o no_o case_n for_o they_o be_v by_o many_o degree_n more_o excellent_a in_o natural_a gift_n than_o we_o less_o rebellious_a and_o more_o ready_a to_o make_v good_a use_n of_o small_a mean_n than_o we_o be_v of_o great_a which_o of_o we_o dare_v compare_v with_o ezoch_n noah_n abraham_n or_o david_n as_o the_o world_n grow_v old_a and_o we_o grow_v weak_a in_o bodily_a strength_n and_o low_a in_o stature_n so_o we_o still_o grow_v more_o and_o more_o strong_a in_o corruption_n and_o in_o frowardness_n of_o heart_n and_o the_o lord_n mercy_n and_o bounty_n be_v so_o much_o great_a to_o we_o then_o to_o they_o because_o we_o be_v further_o from_o deserve_v any_o mercy_n than_o they_o be_v and_o do_v deserve_v more_o misery_n the_o only_a thing_n wherein_o we_o be_v better_a than_o they_o be_v this_o that_o the_o lord_n have_v show_v more_o goodness_n to_o we_o then_o they_o wherefore_o let_v we_o all_o confess_v and_o say_v to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n now_o that_o i_o shall_v show_v the_o agreement_n and_o difference_n between_o the_o same_o pure_a and_o plain_a covenant_n of_o grace_n in_o the_o gospel_n and_o the_o mix_a covenant_n which_o god_n tabernacle_n the_o ark_n and_o the_o mercy_n seat_n which_o be_v type_n of_o christ_n and_o second_o more_o plain_o in_o the_o plain_n of_o moab_n which_o be_v set_v down_o in_o the_o book_n of_o deuteronomy_n this_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o a_o renew_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n which_o he_o have_v before_o make_v with_o their_o father_n adam_n abraham_n isaac_n and_o jacob_n and_o the_o covenant_n which_o god_n make_v at_o mount_n sinai_n and_o the_o covenant_n under_o which_o we_o now_o live_v in_o the_o gospel_n likewise_o there_o be_v the_o same_o difference_n one_o only_o except_v for_o whereas_o in_o the_o first_o covenant_n of_o nature_n god_n and_o man_n be_v friend_n both_o just_a and_o righteous_a both_o lover_n and_o neither_o of_o they_o offend_v now_o in_o renew_v the_o same_o covenant_n with_o israel_n the_o party_n be_v at_o variance_n for_o god_n be_v provoke_v to_o wrath_n and_o man_n by_o sin_n be_v become_v a_o enemy_n even_o as_o they_o be_v at_o the_o make_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n in_o like_a manner_n if_o we_o consider_v the_o second_o part_n of_o the_o covenant_n make_v with_o israel_n it_o be_v the_o same_o with_o the_o old_a covenant_n of_o grace_n we_o shall_v find_v between_o it_o and_o the_o new_a covenant_n of_o the_o gospel_n the_o same_o agreement_n and_o difference_n which_o i_o have_v last_o before_o show_v to_o be_v between_o the_o old_a and_o new_a covenant_n of_o grace_n wherefore_o i_o will_v now_o take_v the_o whole_a covenant_n which_o god_n make_v with_o all_o israel_n by_o the_o ministry_n of_o moses_n as_o it_o consist_v of_o both_o these_o part_n joint_o together_o and_o so_o i_o will_v compare_v it_o with_o the_o covenant_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o show_v the_o agreement_n and_o difference_n between_o they_o and_o first_o for_o the_o thing_n wherein_o they_o agree_v beside_o those_o before_o name_v wherein_o the_o part_n of_o the_o covenant_n make_v with_o israel_n do_v agree_v with_o the_o covenant_n of_o the_o gospel_n i_o find_v but_o two_o only_a first_o they_o agree_v in_o the_o 1._o main_a and_o principal_a end_n namely_o the_o revelation_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o goodness_n justice_n and_o mercy_n of_o god_n in_o man_n salvation_n at_o this_o they_o both_o aim_n and_o in_o this_o they_o both_o agree_v second_o they_o both_o agree_v in_o this_o that_o 2._o both_o of_o they_o do_v promise_n unto_o we_o justification_n and_o salvation_n in_o christ_n and_o both_o require_v in_o we_o a_o continual_a endeavour_n to_o fulfil_v the_o whole_a law_n as_o near_o as_o we_o can_v every_o man_n in_o his_o own_o person_n for_o although_o christ_n be_v the_o end_n and_o fulfil_n of_o the_o law_n for_o righteousness_n to_o all_o true_a believer_n yet_o after_o that_o we_o be_v justify_v by_o his_o righteousness_n it_o be_v require_v in_o every_o one_o of_o we_o that_o we_o shall_v labour_v to_o avoid_v every_o sin_n against_o the_o law_n and_o do_v all_o holy_a duty_n which_o the_o law_n require_v so_o far_o as_o we_o be_v able_a this_o we_o
many_o and_o those_o very_a plain_a in_o every_o place_n and_o this_o be_v a_o special_a cause_n which_o make_v the_o people_n of_o israel_n to_o misconstrue_v the_o meaning_n of_o that_o covenant_n and_o to_o think_v that_o all_o salvation_n be_v to_o be_v obtain_v by_o work_n and_o thus_o the_o covenant_n be_v obscure_a and_o the_o end_n thereof_o be_v hide_v from_o their_o sight_n they_o can_v not_o understand_v the_o true_a use_n of_o the_o type_n and_o ceremony_n but_o the_o covenant_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v make_v in_o such_o plain_a word_n and_o do_v after_o such_o a_o lively_a manner_n set_v forth_o christ_n and_o his_o perfect_a ransom_n satisfaction_n and_o righteousness_n unto_o we_o and_o the_o true_a way_n to_o justification_n and_o salvation_n by_o faith_n in_o he_o that_o the_o most_o simple_a may_v understand_v it_o and_o with_o that_o plain_a doctrine_n and_o multitude_n of_o promise_n the_o spirit_n of_o god_n work_v powerful_o and_o be_v give_v by_o christ_n in_o such_o measure_n to_o all_o sort_n of_o people_n that_o the_o darkness_n of_o their_o heart_n be_v abolish_v also_o and_o so_o there_o be_v no_o veil_n neither_o over_o their_o heart_n nor_o over_o the_o covenant_n itself_o but_o as_o christ_n be_v plain_o offer_v in_o the_o word_n so_o their_o heart_n be_v enlighten_v and_o enable_v to_o look_v on_o his_o glory_n and_o they_o be_v transform_v into_o the_o same_o image_n and_o hereupon_o there_o come_v to_o be_v great_a difference_n in_o this_o respect_n between_o the_o covenant_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o the_o covenant_n of_o the_o law_n which_o god_n give_v by_o moses_n from_o these_o two_o last_o difference_n there_o do_v arise_v other_o which_o be_v there_o lay_v down_o by_o the_o apostle_n also_o to_o wit_n that_o the_o old_a covenant_n of_o the_o law_n be_v the_o ministry_n of_o death_n but_o the_o covenant_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v the_o ministry_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o of_o life_n 2_o cor._n 3._o 7._o instrument_n for_o the_o spirit_n to_o work_v by_o the_o spirit_n do_v not_o work_v by_o it_o such_o plenty_n of_o knowledge_n faith_n and_o other_o grace_n it_o do_v only_o show_v they_o what_o they_o shall_v do_v but_o enable_v they_o not_o to_o do_v any_o thing_n rather_o make_v they_o more_o sinful_a in_o provoke_v their_o corrupt_a naturewch_n more_o lust_n after_o evil_n forbid_v and_o it_o make_v their_o sin_n more_o wilful_a which_o before_o be_v do_v in_o ignorance_n and_o thus_o it_o become_v the_o ministry_n of_o sin_n death_n and_o condemnation_n unto_o they_o it_o also_o bring_v they_o into_o bondage_n by_o show_v they_o their_o slavish_a condition_n and_o give_v they_o no_o grace_n to_o flee_v from_o that_o miserable_a estate_n it_o dazzle_v their_o eye_n because_o it_o show_v they_o the_o glorious_a majesty_n and_o justice_n of_o god_n but_o give_v they_o not_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n to_o strengthen_v their_o sight_n to_o look_v with_o boldness_n and_o comfort_n upon_o god_n majestical_a justice_n but_o because_o the_o covenant_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v make_v in_o plain_a word_n and_o give_v by_o a_o mediator_n who_o have_v also_o the_o dispose_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o dispense_v of_o spiritual_a grace_n therefore_o it_o be_v a_o fit_a instrument_n for_o the_o spirit_n to_o work_v by_o and_o the_o spirit_n go_v forth_o in_o great_a power_n by_o and_o with_o the_o publication_n of_o it_o which_o regenerate_v man_n and_o renew_v their_o heart_n knit_v they_o into_o one_o body_n with_o christ_n give_v they_o the_o communion_n of_o all_o his_o righteousness_n and_o obedience_n to_o justification_n of_o life_n free_v they_o from_o all_o fear_n and_o bondage_n make_v they_o run_v free_o and_o willing_o in_o the_o way_n to_o life_n and_o in_o the_o path_n of_o god_n commandment_n enable_v they_o to_o stand_v bold_o before_o the_o glorious_a tribunal_n of_o god_n justice_n and_o give_v they_o a_o heavenly_a eyesalve_n to_o their_o sight_n that_o they_o may_v steadfast_o behold_v god_n glory_n in_o the_o face_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o thus_o in_o those_o respect_v those_o two_o covenant_n do_v much_o differ_v between_o themselves_o the_o last_o difference_n be_v name_v by_o the_o apostle_n in_o the_o 11_o verse_n and_o it_o be_v this_o that_o the_o covenant_n of_o the_o law_n give_v by_o moses_n and_o the_o glory_n thereof_o vanish_v and_o be_v do_v away_o but_o the_o covenant_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o the_o glory_n thereof_o abide_v for_o ever_o which_o difference_n be_v thus_o to_o be_v understand_v not_o that_o the_o substance_n of_o the_o law_n or_o the_o righteousness_n thereof_o cease_v at_o any_o time_n neither_o that_o the_o evangelical_a promise_n which_o be_v intermingle_v in_o that_o covenant_n be_v abolish_v together_o with_o the_o type_n and_o ceremony_n these_o thing_n be_v in_o no_o case_n to_o be_v grant_v for_o the_o law_n of_o god_n be_v a_o eternal_a rule_n of_o truth_n and_o justice_n and_o by_o the_o righteousness_n obedience_n and_o fulfil_n thereof_o all_o the_o elect_a shall_v be_v justify_v and_o save_v for_o ever_o this_o our_o saviour_n testify_v say_v think_v not_o that_o i_o be_o come_v to_o destroy_v the_o law_n but_o to_o fulfil_v it_o for_o very_o till_o heaven_n and_o earth_n pass_v not_o one_o jot_n or_o title_n of_o the_o law_n shall_v israel_n we_o shall_v perceive_v that_o christ_n be_v the_o body_n and_o substance_n of_o they_o all_o and_o therefore_o so_o long_o as_o he_o abide_v the_o substance_n of_o they_o abide_v firm_a and_o sure_a and_o do_v not_o vanish_v wherefore_o the_o law_n and_o covenant_n which_o god_n give_v by_o moses_n do_v vanish_v and_o be_v abolish_v only_o in_o three_o respect_n first_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o extreme_a rigour_n thereof_o for_o as_o it_o be_v give_v to_o israel_n it_o require_v obedience_n of_o every_o man_n in_o his_o own_o person_n to_o justification_n and_o life_n but_o now_o it_o only_o require_v that_o a_o man_n have_v that_o righteousness_n which_o be_v a_o perfect_a conformity_n to_o it_o though_o perform_v by_o his_o surety_n and_o mediator_n and_o that_o shall_v sufficient_o save_v he_o before_o it_o do_v require_v perfect_a righteousness_n upon_o pain_n of_o damnation_n perform_v by_o every_o man_n himself_o and_o threaten_v a_o curse_n to_o every_o breach_n of_o it_o now_o it_o bind_v a_o man_n himself_o to_o perform_v no_o more_o than_o he_o be_v able_a if_o he_o do_v his_o best_a and_o bring_v a_o willing_a mind_n god_n accept_v the_o will_n
