we_o make_v void_a the_o law_n through_o faith_n god_n forbid_v yea_o we_o establish_v the_o law_n for_o what_o need_n have_v christian_n of_o free_a justification_n by_o christ_n if_o they_o be_v not_o bind_v unto_o the_o obedience_n of_o the_o law_n by_o the_o commandment_n of_o the_o law_n therefore_o the_o free_a justification_n of_o man_n under_o a_o free_a covenant_n of_o grace_n do_v doctrine_n of_o free_a grace_n according_a to_o the_o scripture_n prop._n 1._o that_o a_o sanctification_n which_o the_o terror_n of_o the_o law_n may_v produce_v that_o be_v to_o say_v such_o a_o sanctification_n as_o may_v be_v find_v in_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n be_v no_o evidence_n or_o witness_n of_o our_o union_n with_o christ_n and_o i_o suppose_v there_o be_v no_o difference_n there_o but_o though_o there_o be_v no_o difference_n in_o man_n judgement_n in_o this_o yet_o it_o be_v a_o easy_a thing_n for_o christian_n to_o abuse_v their_o evidence_n upon_o this_o very_a ground_n and_o as_o much_o upon_o this_o ground_n as_o upon_o any_o for_o when_o christian_n come_v to_o be_v real_o wrought_v upon_o and_o find_v themselves_o discourage_v from_o sin_n and_o so_o reform_v their_o life_n and_o give_v up_o themselves_o to_o obey_v the_o word_n and_o find_v comfort_n therein_o and_o great_a consolation_n many_o time_n in_o such_o a_o case_n as_o this_o christian_n do_v much_o differ_v upon_o the_o point_n yet_o i_o do_v not_o know_v any_o of_o all_o the_o teacher_n in_o the_o country_n that_o withdraw_v their_o consent_n from_o this_o doctrine_n that_o such_o sanctification_n as_o be_v wrought_v in_o hypocrite_n though_o it_o may_v reach_v to_o great_a improvement_n yet_o it_o be_v no_o evidence_n of_o justification_n at_o all_o and_o it_o have_v be_v handle_v in_o another_o congregation_n and_o i_o think_v not_o without_o weight_n of_o truth_n that_o to_o distinguish_v in_o man_n between_o that_o sanctification_n which_o flow_v from_o the_o law_n and_o that_o which_o be_v of_o the_o gospel_n be_v a_o matter_n so_o narrow_a that_o the_o angel_n in_o heaven_n have_v much_o ado_n to_o discern_v who_o differ_v a_o work_n fit_a for_o angel_n to_o cut_v the_o scantling_n in_o it_o then_o for_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n though_o indeed_o there_o be_v great_a difference_n of_o the_o one_o from_o the_o other_o now_o though_o this_o do_v not_o tend_v to_o heal_v any_o difference_n in_o judgement_n yet_o it_o be_v useful_a to_o heal_v a_o misprision_n of_o sanctification_n that_o may_v be_v find_v in_o all_o hypocrite_n of_o this_o country_n and_o elsewhere_o three_o thing_n be_v to_o be_v attain_v unto_o in_o all_o sanctification_n 1_o from_o what_o root_n it_o spring_v 2_o by_o what_o rule_v it_o be_v guide_v 3_o at_o what_o end_v it_o aim_v and_o common_o under_o one_o or_o other_o of_o these_o three_o be_v put_v all_o the_o difference_n between_o the_o one_o sanctification_n and_o the_o other_o which_o purify_v the_o heart_n act_v 15.9_o &_o without_o faith_n it_o be_v impossible_a to_o please_v god_n heb._n 11.6_o so_o that_o faith_n must_v concur_v unto_o the_o rootednesse_n of_o our_o sanctification_n in_o christ_n and_o the_o apostle_n do_v attribute_v both_o these_o root_n unto_o both_o sort_n unto_o those_o christian_n that_o shall_v afterward_o fall_v away_o to_o sin_v the_o any_o conditional_a promise_n therefore_o not_o by_o any_o condition_n in_o ourselves_o but_o as_o we_o receive_v all_o thing_n from_o god_n so_o we_o claim_v all_o thing_n from_o he_o in_o jesus_n christ_n and_o so_o do_v first_o seek_v for_o he_o and_o for_o all_o thing_n in_o he_o if_o thus_o to_o what_o use_n then_o serve_v the_o law_n of_o god_n which_o require_v such_o and_o such_o condition_n in_o we_o do_v we_o not_o abrogate_v the_o law_n &_o make_v it_o of_o none_o effect_n and_o root_v it_o out_o from_o have_v any_o power_n over_o christian_n and_o true_o some_o under_o pretence_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n have_v think_v it_o altogether_o bootless_a to_o bind_v christian_n unto_o the_o law_n of_o god_n and_o to_o look_v at_o it_o as_o any_o part_n of_o the_o direction_n of_o their_o course_n now_o because_o this_o be_v a_o imputation_n usual_o reflect_v upon_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n let_v we_o confider_v therefore_o and_o inquire_v to_o what_o use_n serve_v the_o law_n of_o god_n if_o god_n give_v himself_o first_o unto_o his_o people_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o his_o grace_n answ_n though_o the_o lord_n give_v himself_o free_o to_o the_o soul_n and_o his_o son_n and_o all_o the_o blessing_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n without_o respect_n unto_o any_o work_n of_o the_o law_n yet_o the_o law_n be_v of_o special_a and_o notable_a use_n unto_o all_o the_o son_n of_o man_n both_o unto_o they_o that_o be_v not_o yet_o bring_v home_o unto_o god_n by_o convert_v grace_n and_o also_o to_o those_o that_o be_v regenerate_v in_o jesus_n christ_n the_o apostle_n paul_n do_v observe_v that_o the_o question_n will_v arise_v upon_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n gal._n 3.16,17,18_o for_o if_o the_o blessing_n of_o abraham_n come_v upon_o the_o people_n of_o god_n by_o jesus_n christ_n to_o what_o end_n then_o serve_v the_o law_n which_o come_v 430_o year_n after_o it_o can_v disannul_v grace_n to_o make_v and_o to_o multiply_v it_o unto_o they_o as_o it_o be_v that_o be_v to_o say_v to_o aggravate_v the_o apprehension_n of_o the_o heinousness_n of_o sin_n upon_o their_o conscience_n and_o to_o set_v home_o the_o burden_n of_o sin_n unto_o their_o soul_n thereby_o to_o drive_v they_o to_o feel_v their_o great_a need_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n who_o otherwise_o they_o shall_v for_o ever_o that_o the_o covenant_n of_o the_o law_n be_v not_o give_v to_o the_o child_n of_o god_n from_o hence_o it_o be_v manifest_a because_o a_o christian_a man_n neither_o look_v for_o justification_n and_o silvation_n from_o his_o obedience_n to_o the_o law_n nor_o sear_v condemnation_n though_o he_o fail_v in_o his_o obedience_n and_o this_o be_v a_o fruit_n of_o his_o exemption_n from_o under_o the_o covenant_n of_o the_o law_n for_o if_o a_o man_n shall_v look_v for_o life_n by_o his_o obedience_n to_o the_o law_n and_o fear_v condemnation_n by_o the_o breach_n of_o it_o this_o will_v bring_v a_o man_n under_o the_o covenant_n of_o the_o law_n for_o the_o sanction_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o the_o law_n be_v life_n to_o they_o that_o obey_v and_o to_o they_o that_o disobey_v death_n and_o the_o curse_n but_o a_o christian_a look_v not_o for_o life_n by_o his_o obedience_n and_o that_o be_v plain_a psal_n 143.2_o rom._n 3.20_o therefore_o no_o hope_n of_o salvation_n from_o our_o obedience_n to_o the_o law_n but_o i_o think_v you_o will_v say_v a_o christian_a may_v fear_v his_o condemnation_n because_o of_o his_o disobedience_n to_o the_o law_n true_o this_o be_v isaac_n it_o be_v a_o small_a matter_n to_o circumcise_v the_o flesh_n so_o it_o be_v a_o small_a matter_n for_o we_o to_o baptize_v with_o water_n but_o who_o must_v wash_v we_o from_o our_o sin_n all_o worldly_a entanglement_n and_o delight_n thus_o god_n take_v abraham_n and_o bring_v he_o from_o beyond_o the_o flood_n and_o so_o do_v he_o take_v man_n off_o from_o their_o country_n and_o father_n house_n he_o separate_v they_o from_o all_o such_o thing_n that_o he_o may_v draw_v they_o unto_o himself_o thus_o he_o deal_v with_o the_o child_n of_o israel_n and_o call_v they_o to_o be_v mean_a while_o they_o may_v not_o come_v unto_o a_o spirit_n of_o adoption_n but_o hereby_o also_o the_o lord_n use_v to_o prepare_v his_o people_n some_o bless_v themselves_o in_o worldly_a course_n and_o never_o come_v unto_o a_o spirit_n of_o bondage_n some_o do_v find_v comfort_n in_o their_o performance_n and_o never_o see_v the_o vanity_n of_o their_o own_o righteousness_n but_o there_o be_v those_o who_o the_o lord_n do_v carry_v further_o unto_o a_o spirit_n of_o burn_a even_o unto_o a_o sensible_a feel_n of_o god_n wrath_n burn_v against_o whatsoever_o be_v as_o stubble_n &_o such_o be_v a_o man_n own_o gift_n and_o part_n and_o worth_a so_o that_o now_o the_o poor_a soul_n find_v that_o he_o have_v no_o root_n of_o any_o good_a covenant_n but_o see_v it_o to_o be_v a_o outward_a face_n of_o the_o covenant_n that_o he_o do_v rest_n upon_o and_o now_o he_o see_v no_o green_a branch_n of_o righteousness_n remain_v but_o all_o be_v blast_v and_o break_v in_o piece_n according_a to_o what_o the_o prophet_n esay_n say_v chap._n 40.6,7_o and_o so_o the_o lord_n come_v to_o leave_v a_o man_n neither_o root_n nor_o branch_n for_o by_o a_o spirit_n of_o bondage_n the_o lord_n blast_v all_o flesh_n but_o when_o it_o come_v unto_o the_o goodliness_n of_o flesh_n that_o be_v consume_v by_o a_o spirit_n of_o burn_a 2_o as_o god_n thus_o prepare_v we_o for_o himself_o so_o he_o do_v give_v himself_o unto_o we_o and_o take_v possession_n of_o we_o by_o his_o bless_a spirit_n the_o father_n give_v himself_o and_o his_o son_n by_o his_o bless_a spirit_n for_o the_o spirit_n to_o be_v a_o covenant_n so_o he_o give_v he_o also_o to_o work_v all_o thing_n needful_a for_o our_o redemption_n partly_o by_o his_o passion_n and_o obedience_n unto_o the_o death_n of_o the_o cross_n and_o partly_o by_o fulfil_v the_o whole_a law_n all_o righteousness_n for_o we_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n do_v full_o accomplish_v whatsoever_o be_v requisite_a for_o he_o to_o accomplish_v in_o his_o own_o person_n 2_o he_o do_v perform_v all_o thing_n needful_a for_o the_o application_n of_o this_o redemption_n unto_o our_o soul_n and_o to_o this_o end_n he_o it_o be_v partaker_n of_o and_o so_o perform_v all_o those_o condition_n that_o be_v require_v on_o our_o part_n if_o it_o be_v needful_a for_o we_o to_o have_v faith_n he_o will_v work_v it_o in_o we_o if_o it_o be_v needful_a for_o we_o to_o live_v a_o life_n of_o faith_n he_o will_v help_v we_o so_o to_o live_v for_o it_o be_v not_o of_o ourselves_o it_o be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n ephes_n 2.9_o thus_o have_v the_o lord_n make_v he_o a_o complete_a mediator_n of_o this_o holy_a covenant_n and_o whatsoever_o we_o receive_v we_o receive_v it_o from_o he_o for_o unto_o he_o first_o as_o the_o head_n of_o the_o church_n be_v all_o blessing_n give_v and_o unto_o we_o all_o promise_n in_o he_o be_v yea_o and_o in_o he_o amen_o 2_o cor._n 1.20_o for_o though_o christ_n be_v not_o a_o sinner_n save_a grace_n which_o do_v sanctify_v we_o unto_o god_n our_o father_n but_o whether_o they_o do_v make_v way_n for_o jesus_n christ_n there_o prove_v a_o difference_n but_o you_o may_v discern_v the_o truth_n of_o the_o point_n if_o the_o lord_n do_v give_v any_o save_a qualification_n before_o christ_n than_o the_o soul_n may_v be_v in_o a_o state_n of_o salvation_n before_o christ_n and_o
