be_v stop_v so_o that_o it_o be_v a_o heavy_a yoke_n those_o that_o be_v under_o this_o law_n that_o be_v such_o as_o be_v under_o the_o first_o covenant_n the_o covenant_n of_o work_n that_o seek_v for_o justification_n by_o that_o they_o be_v under_o a_o grievous_a burden_n they_o be_v the_o child_n of_o the_o bond_n woman_n for_o the_o law_n require_v that_o that_o be_v impossible_a for_o they_o to_o do_v now_o when_o a_o soul_n come_v to_o see_v and_o understand_v itself_o to_o be_v under_o the_o law_n such_o a_o law_n as_o require_v thing_n impossible_a to_o be_v do_v this_o burden_n the_o soul_n &_o so_o by_o this_o mean_v it_o come_v to_o see_v the_o need_n it_o have_v of_o christ_n and_o christ_n call_v to_o such_o to_o come_v to_o he_o as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v so_o long_o as_o you_o continue_v unbeleiver_n in_o your_o natural_a condition_n you_o be_v under_o such_o a_o covenant_n for_o life_n as_o require_v that_o of_o you_o which_o you_o can_v possible_o do_v and_o therefore_o there_o be_v no_o rest_v in_o that_o condition_n come_v therefore_o to_o i_o take_v my_o yoke_n my_o easy_a yoke_n the_o other_o be_v a_o heavy_a yoke_n but_o i_o will_v show_v you_o a_o way_n for_o ease_n and_o rest_n to_o your_o soul_n that_o be_v the_o first_o but_o though_o the_o law_n may_v require_v hard_a thing_n &_o impossible_a thing_n yet_o it_o may_v remit_v in_o some_o other_o thing_n wherefore_o 2._o in_o the_o second_o place_n this_o be_v the_o yoke_n and_o bondage_n of_o the_o law_n that_o in_o every_o thing_n that_o it_o do_v command_v it_o do_v require_v absolute_a perfection_n accept_v of_o nothing_o but_o absolute_a perfection_n in_o every_o thing_n that_o it_o do_v command_n it_o do_v not_o only_o command_v hard_a thing_n but_o whatsoever_o the_o law_n require_v it_o do_v require_v a_o absolute_a perfection_n in_o it_o or_o otherwise_o cast_v the_o soul_n if_o there_o be_v but_o a_o fail_n on_o any_o particular_a in_o any_o degree_n of_o there_o shall_v not_o only_o be_v a_o direction_n of_o our_o life_n according_a to_o the_o rule_n but_o that_o we_o come_v up_o full_o to_o the_o rule_n this_o the_o law_n require_v now_o what_o a_o miserable_a yoke_n and_o burden_n be_v this_o for_o a_o poor_a soul_n to_o look_v upon_o the_o law_n as_o require_v first_o thing_n that_o i_o can_v do_v and_o second_o absolute_a perfection_n admit_v of_o no_o imperfection_n at_o all_o this_o be_v a_o heavy_a yoke_n this_o neither_o we_o nor_o our_o father_n can_v bear_v and_o those_o that_o come_v to_o be_v sensible_a of_o this_o must_v needs_o be_v under_o a_o grievous_a burden_n and_o so_o see_v a_o need_n of_o jesus_n christ_n christ_n call_v those_o that_o do_v understand_v this_o it_o be_v true_a if_o it_o be_v thus_o and_o people_n be_v leave_v without_o any_o help_n and_o remedy_n it_o be_v a_o sad_a condition_n true_o if_o christ_n have_v not_o come_v into_o the_o world_n to_o put_v himself_o under_o the_o law_n we_o have_v be_v leave_v thus_o and_o all_o those_o that_o do_v not_o understand_v the_o gospel_n that_o have_v not_o have_v christ_n preach_v unto_o they_o they_o be_v all_o thus_o they_o be_v all_o in_o this_o condition_n they_o be_v under_o a_o law_n that_o they_o can_v perform_v that_o law_n which_o do_v require_v absolute_a and_o perfect_a obedience_n in_o every_o thing_n or_o else_o cast_v they_o three_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n be_v this_o you_o may_v say_v though_o it_o do_v require_v perfect_a obedience_n but_o will_v it_o accept_v of_o no_o endeavour_n at_o all_o suppose_v we_o do_v endeavour_v to_o obey_v to_o the_o uttermost_a that_o we_o can_v there_o be_v many_o man_n will_v require_v thing_n that_o be_v hard_a and_o beyond_o strength_n i_o but_o when_o there_o be_v endeavour_n to_o do_v that_o that_o be_v require_v that_o will_v be_v accept_v wherefore_o we_o be_v to_o know_v this_o that_o the_o law_n accept_v of_o no_o endeavour_n though_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n shall_v strive_v their_o heart_n out_o to_o obey_v to_o come_v to_o the_o height_n of_o the_o perfection_n of_o the_o law_n the_o law_n do_v not_o accept_v of_o those_o endeavour_n it_o be_v true_a when_o the_o soul_n come_v unto_o christ_n in_o the_o gospel_n when_o the_o soul_n come_v under_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n endeavour_n be_v accept_v therefore_o do_v not_o say_v that_o god_n will_v not_o accept_v of_o our_o endeavour_n and_o why_o shall_v we_o endeavour_v yes_o if_o you_o come_v unto_o christ_n your_o endeavour_n will_v be_v accept_v as_o we_o shall_v show_v you_o you_o be_v now_o in_o for_o the_o law_n require_v obedience_n it_o must_v have_v the_o work_v do_v you_o can_v be_v but_o either_o under_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n or_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n so_o long_o as_o you_o be_v under_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n there_o the_o work_n be_v call_v for_o and_o not_o mere_o endeavour_n that_o will_v not_o do_v therefore_o the_o apostle_n say_v in_o the_o rom._n 10.5_o for_o moses_n describe_v the_o righteousness_n of_o the_o law_n that_o he_o which_o do_v those_o thing_n shall_v live_v by_o they_o you_o must_v either_o be_v righteous_a by_o the_o righteousness_n of_o the_o law_n or_o by_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n now_o if_o you_o will_v be_v righteous_a by_o the_o righteousness_n of_o the_o law_n hear_v what_o it_o be_v he_o that_o do_v these_o thing_n shall_v live_v by_o they_o if_o you_o do_v they_o moses_n do_v not_o say_v he_o that_o endeavour_v to_o do_v these_o thing_n he_o that_o strive_v to_o do_v these_o thing_n no_o but_o moses_n say_v he_o that_o do_v they_o he_o that_o do_v these_o thing_n shall_v live_v by_o they_o it_o must_v be_v do_v and_o not_o endeavour_v that_o the_o law_n accept_v and_o that_o be_v the_o three_o thing_n wherein_o the_o bondage_n of_o the_o law_n consist_v say_v christ_n come_v to_o i_o and_o you_o shall_v have_v rest_n it_o be_v by_o believe_v in_o christ_n that_o you_o must_v have_v rest_n there_o can_v be_v no_o rest_n but_o a_o grievous_a burden_n upon_o the_o soul_n till_o it_o do_v come_v to_o christ_n if_o it_o do_v understand_v thing_n and_o if_o most_o people_n spend_v off_o all_o their_o day_n and_o through_o ignorance_n do_v not_o come_v to_o be_v sensible_a of_o it_o but_o when_o the_o soul_n come_v to_o understand_v what_o term_n there_o be_v between_o god_n and_o it_o and_o how_o it_o must_v stand_v before_o god_n that_o it_o must_v either_o stand_v by_o virtue_n of_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n or_o a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o that_o all_o natural_o be_v under_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o so_o long_o as_o i_o be_o in_o my_o natural_a condition_n i_o be_o under_o such_o a_o law_n that_o accept_v of_o no_o endeavour_n this_o must_v needs_o be_v a_o great_a burden_n unto_o the_o soul_n and_o make_v it_o to_o see_v a_o absolute_a necessity_n of_o go_v to_o
christ_n for_o ease_n and_o rest_n four_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n be_v exceed_o great_a in_o this_o respect_n that_o upon_o any_o one_o breach_n of_o the_o law_n the_o soul_n come_v to_o be_v break_v so_o as_o to_o lose_v ability_n to_o be_v able_a to_o keep_v any_o part_n of_o the_o law_n for_o ever_o i_o say_v there_o be_v this_o in_o the_o law_n more_o than_o in_o the_o gospel_n that_o upon_o any_o one_o breach_n of_o the_o law_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n the_o soul_n come_v to_o be_v so_o break_v as_o to_o loose_v all_o the_o ability_n of_o ever_o keep_v any_o part_n of_o the_o law_n again_o as_o thus_o i_o show_v you_o in_o adam_n adam_n be_v the_o head_n of_o the_o first_o covenant_n of_o work_n of_o the_o law_n now_o adam_n he_o break_v it_o in_o one_o particular_a fail_v in_o one_o particular_a of_o what_o god_n require_v of_o he_o and_o in_o break_v of_o it_o in_o that_o one_o thing_n he_o and_o all_o his_o posterity_n be_v so_o break_v that_o they_o lose_v all_o their_o ability_n of_o keep_v of_o the_o law_n for_o ever_o except_o god_n come_v and_o create_v any_o ability_n they_o have_v lose_v what_o ability_n be_v give_v at_o first_o in_o their_o creation_n so_o than_o this_o be_v a_o very_a great_a mystery_n that_o one_o by_o do_v a_o thing_n that_o be_v evil_n shall_v weaken_v the_o contrary_a habit_n that_o by_o do_v a_o thing_n that_o be_v evil_a we_o shall_v quite_o loose_v the_o habit_n that_o be_v quite_o loose_a the_o habit_n by_o one_o act_n and_o not_o only_o loose_v the_o habit_n that_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o particular_a evil_n that_o we_o do_v but_o lose_v all_o habit_n of_o all_o good_a whatsoever_o and_o that_o by_o one_o act_n now_o this_o be_v a_o thing_n above_o nature_n this_o be_v only_o by_o virtue_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n god_n make_v such_o a_o covenant_n it_o run_v upon_o such_o term_n as_o if_o adam_n do_v but_o sin_n in_o one_o thing_n he_o must_v die_v that_o be_v his_o soul_n as_o well_o as_o his_o body_n must_v die_v a_o spiritual_a death_n and_o so_o loose_a all_o habit_n of_o all_o grace_n and_o this_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o we_o be_v by_o nature_n dead_a in_o sin_n further_o such_o be_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o law_n that_o suppose_v god_n shall_v restore_v we_o all_o to_o be_v as_o perfect_a as_o ever_o adam_n be_v in_o the_o state_n of_o innocency_n void_a of_o all_o sin_n and_o have_v the_o image_n of_o god_n perfect_a and_o then_o god_n shall_v come_v and_o put_v we_o upon_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n again_o i_o say_v if_o we_o than_o shall_v but_o fail_v in_o any_o one_o thing_n it_o will_v break_v we_o so_o as_o we_o shall_v loose_v all_o our_o ability_n to_o perform_v any_o duty_n ever_o after_o this_o be_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o law_n but_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o the_o gospel_n though_o we_o sin_n against_o the_o gospel_n we_o do_v not_o present_o loose_v all_o our_o habit_n of_o grace_n but_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o difference_n that_o though_o adam_n when_o he_o sin_v against_o the_o law_n he_o lose_v all_o his_o habit_n to_o do_v any_o good_a after_o and_o that_o though_o we_o sin_n against_o the_o gospel_n yet_o we_o do_v not_o loose_v those_o habit_n that_o i_o shall_v show_v afterward_o when_o i_o shall_v come_v to_o show_v that_o the_o yoke_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v easy_a than_o that_o of_o the_o law_n and_o that_o be_v the_o four_o thing_n in_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n five_o the_o first_o thing_n be_v this_o that_o the_o law_n upon_o every_o breach_n it_o do_v take_v advantage_n against_o the_o soul_n present_o i_o say_v take_v advantage_n against_o the_o soul_n present_o and_o bind_v it_o over_o to_o death_n to_o eternal_a death_n present_o bind_v it_o over_o yea_o and_o do_v actual_o put_v it_o under_o a_o curse_n upon_o every_o breach_n instant_o it_o do_v it_o its_o true_a the_o law_n it_o may_v be_v be_v not_o present_o execute_v as_o soon_o as_o a_o sinner_n have_v break_v it_o but_o this_o be_v certain_a that_o though_o god_n do_v not_o come_v upon_o you_o as_o soon_o as_o you_o have_v break_v the_o law_n yet_o know_v that_o there_o be_v these_o three_o thing_n come_v upon_o every_o one_o that_o be_v out_o of_o chirst_n as_o soon_o as_o any_o one_o sin_n be_v commit_v there_o be_v these_o three_o thing_n come_v upon_o he_o present_o first_o he_o be_v bind_v over_o by_o god_n justice_n by_o such_o abond_n as_o have_v more_o strength_n in_o it_o then_o all_o the_o power_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n be_v able_a to_o break_v as_o a_o man_n that_o have_v do_v that_o that_o be_v evil_a it_o may_v be_v the_o law_n have_v not_o present_a execution_n upon_o he_o i_o but_o he_o be_v bind_v over_o present_o and_o not_o only_o so_o but_o in_o the_o second_o place_n the_o law_n pass_v sentence_n the_o bind_n over_o that_o be_v the_o guilt_n but_o the_o law_n pass_v sentence_n upon_o the_o sinner_n and_o condemn_v it_o the_o soul_n be_v present_o under_o the_o sentence_n of_o condemnation_n three_o the_o law_n put_v the_o sinner_n under_o a_o curse_n for_o so_o it_o be_v in_o the_o latter_a end_n of_o the_o 27._o of_o deu._n curse_a be_v every_o one_o that_o abide_v not_o in_o every_o thing_n that_o be_v write_v in_o the_o book_n of_o the_o law_n to_o do_v it_o mark_v every_o one_o that_o abide_v not_o in_o every_o thing_n he_o be_v that_o if_o you_o shall_v obey_v it_o never_o so_o much_o for_o a_o great_a part_n of_o your_o life_n if_o you_o shall_v conceive_v you_o can_v obey_v it_o perfect_o for_o a_o great_a while_n yet_o if_o at_o last_o you_o shall_v offend_v in_o any_o one_o particular_a you_o be_v cast_v for_o all_o and_o all_o that_o you_o have_v do_v before_o be_v utter_o reject_v it_o will_v take_v advantage_n against_o you_o for_o any_o one_o particular_a if_o it_o be_v possible_a that_o all_o your_o life_n time_n you_o shall_v keep_v it_o and_o at_o the_o last_o hour_n of_o your_o life_n break_v it_o in_o any_o one_o particular_a certain_o you_o will_v be_v condemn_v by_o it_o this_o be_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o law_n for_o so_o it_o be_v in_o those_o word_n that_o be_v name_v though_o you_o do_v it_o if_o you_o do_v not_o abide_v to_o do_v every_o thing_n if_o there_o be_v but_o any_o one_o thing_n whereby_o it_o can_v take_v advantage_n it_o will_v certain_o condemn_v you_o for_o it_o this_o be_v the_o condition_n of_o all_o that_o be_v under_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o be_v not_o this_o a_o load_n will_v not_o this_o burden_n the_o soul_n if_o so_o be_v the_o soul_n come_v to_o understand_v it_o and_o whether_o it_o understand_v it_o or_o not_o yet_o certain_o it_o be_v the_o truth_n of_o god_n seven_o a_o seven_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n be_v this_o that_o when_o once_o the_o sinner_n have_v break_v it_o the_o law_n can_v be_v satisfy_v with_o any_o obedience_n which_o may_v make_v amends_o afterward_o by_o any_o thing_n that_o the_o sinner_n can_v do_v suppose_v a_o man_n shall_v be_v never_o so_o angry_a and_o offend_v he_o that_o have_v offend_v he_o may_v make_v amends_o again_o a_o servant_n think_v though_o i_o have_v offend_v my_o master_n and_o do_v so_o many_o fault_n yet_o i_o will_v make_v amends_o for_o al._n so_o many_o people_n think_v though_o we_o have_v break_v the_o law_n of_o god_n and_o live_v a_o great_a while_n in_o sin_n and_o do_v that_o which_o be_v evil_a yet_o we_o will_v make_v amends_o again_o and_o we_o will_v give_v alm_n and_o come_v to_o church_n and_o the_o like_a these_o be_v the_o reason_n of_o many_o poor_a ignorant_a heart_n that_o do_v not_o understand_v upon_o what_o term_n they_o stand_v with_o god_n all_o the_o child_n of_o man_n stand_v before_o god_n either_o under_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n or_o under_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n one_o of_o the_o two_o now_o those_o kind_n of_o man_n that_o reason_n after_o this_o manner_n sure_o they_o be_v not_o acquaint_v with_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n they_o be_v under_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o now_o let_v they_o know_v that_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n admit_v of_o no_o such_o amends_o as_o they_o speak_v of_o but_o when_o once_o you_o have_v break_v the_o law_n all_o that_o ever_o you_o can_v do_v if_o you_o can_v live_v a_o thousand_o year_n never_o so_o strict_o or_o be_v willing_a to_o suffer_v never_o so_o much_o for_o god_n
yet_o all_o this_o will_v not_o satisfy_v for_o what_o be_v past_a many_o when_o they_o have_v sin_v and_o their_o conscience_n be_v a_o little_a awake_v for_o it_o than_o they_o think_v to_o live_v better_a and_o to_o do_v otherwise_o afterward_o as_o if_o they_o will_v make_v amends_o for_o what_o be_v do_v before_o but_o you_o must_v know_v that_o this_o be_v a_o mere_a deceit_n and_o will_v not_o satisfy_v you_o must_v come_v to_o i_o say_v christ_n you_o must_v come_v to_o christ_n and_o believe_v in_o he_o or_o otherwise_o all_o that_o you_o can_v do_v will_v never_o make_v amends_o you_o will_v say_v if_o we_o can_v make_v amends_o what_o shall_v become_v of_o we_o it_o be_v true_a if_o there_o be_v not_o a_o saviour_n a_o christ_n our_o condition_n be_v sad_a certain_o amends_o must_v be_v make_v but_o it_o be_v impossible_a that_o ever_o you_o can_v make_v amends_o and_o this_o you_o must_v think_v of_o you_o must_v not_o only_o think_v of_o what_o you_o be_v bind_v to_o do_v for_o the_o time_n that_o be_v to_o come_v but_o how_o the_o breach_n of_o the_o law_n shall_v be_v make_v up_o for_o that_o which_o be_v past_a &_o when_o the_o sinner_n come_v to_o think_v of_o these_o two_o together_o i_o have_v thus_o sin_v lord_n what_o shall_v i_o do_v for_o time_n to_o come_v i_o &_o what_o shall_v i_o do_v to_o make_v up_o the_o breach_n of_o the_o law_n for_o that_o which_o be_v past_a this_o will_v burden_v the_o soul_n and_o the_o soul_n will_v feel_v upon_o this_o such_o a_o burden_n that_o nothing_o in_o the_o world_n can_v give_v it_o rest_v tell_v it_o come_v to_o christ_n if_o we_o do_v apprehend_v this_o we_o will_v see_v that_o our_o condition_n out_o of_o christ_n be_v a_o restless_a condition_n and_o this_o invitation_n of_o christ_n will_v be_v very_o acceptable_a now_o because_o i_o be_v loath_a to_o tell_v you_o of_o rest_n before_o i_o have_v open_v a_o little_a this_o burden_n for_o otherwise_o you_o may_v say_v as_o those_o jew_n do_v to_o christ_n in_o a_o other_o case_n when_o christ_n tell_v they_o if_o the_o son_n make_v they_o free_a they_o shall_v be_v free_a indeed_o why_o say_v they_o be_v we_o bind_v to_o any_o man_n it_o be_v in_o john_n 8.32_o why_o do_v you_o talk_v of_o freedom_n to_o we_o if_o i_o shall_v have_v go_v on_o in_o the_o invitation_n come_v to_o i_o and_o i_o will_v give_v you_o rest_v come_v to_o christ_n why_o what_o restless_a condition_n be_v we_o in_o you_o may_v have_v say_v but_o now_o when_o you_o see_v your_o restless_a condition_n than_o i_o suppose_v you_o will_v be_v willing_a to_o harken_v to_o the_o invitation_n come_v to_o i_o and_o i_o will_v give_v you_o rest_v those_o thing_n will_v make_v you_o to_o know_v what_o it_o be_v to_o believe_v and_o to_o come_v to_o christ_n when_o you_o come_v to_o understand_v what_o you_o be_v in_o be_v out_o of_o christ_n 8._o a_o eight_o particular_a be_v this_o that_o the_o law_n accept_v of_o no_o repentance_n as_o it_o will_v not_o be_v make_v amends_o for_o so_o it_o will_v not_o accept_v of_o repentance_n let_v the_o sinner_n be_v never_o so_o sorrowful_a for_o what_o he_o have_v do_v and_o lament_v his_o sin_n never_o so_o much_o if_o he_o can_v bewail_v his_o sin_n with_o tear_n of_o blood_n the_o law_n will_v not_o accept_v of_o this_o you_o will_v say_v this_o be_v a_o strange_a doctrine_n that_o our_o repentance_n shall_v not_o be_v accept_v of_o i_o do_v not_o say_v absolute_o that_o god_n will_v accept_v of_o no_o repentance_n but_o i_o say_v that_o the_o law_n will_v accept_v of_o no_o save_v any_o soul_n and_o that_o you_o have_v need_n fall_v upon_o the_o seek_n of_o your_o salvation_n betimes_o and_o then_o three_o hence_o will_v follow_v this_o conclusion_n also_o that_o those_o vain_a thought_n of_o man_n that_o they_o have_v have_v for_o pacify_v their_o conscience_n and_o the_o quiet_v of_o their_o heart_n will_v stand_v they_o in_o no_o stead_n as_o thus_o many_o they_o reason_n thus_o i_o be_o not_o so_o bad_a as_o other_o what_o if_o you_o be_v not_o if_o you_o be_v under_o the_o law_n you_o be_v cast_v a_o thousand_o thousand_o time_n over_o you_o will_v say_v that_o there_o be_v a_o burden_n upon_o i_o howsoever_o i_o have_v not_o be_v sensible_a of_o it_o and_o it_o be_v such_o a_o burden_n as_o will_v press_v i_o down_o to_o eternal_a misery_n and_o i_o see_v now_o by_o this_o that_o i_o have_v need_n of_o a_o christ_n certain_o if_o congregation_n be_v sensible_a of_o this_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n oh_o how_o will_v their_o soul_n rejoice_v in_o this_o and_o praise_v the_o lord_n that_o their_o ear_n be_v bless_v to_o hear_v such_o a_o sound_n of_o the_o gospel_n as_o this_o come_v to_o i_o and_o i_o will_v give_v you_o rest_v i_o appeal_v now_o when_o you_o see_v this_o in_o the_o heart_n of_o people_n manifest_v in_o their_o expression_n way_n and_o conversation_n remember_v the_o stone_n that_o you_o see_v upon_o pavement_n in_o wet_a wether_n they_o give_v and_o may_v be_v water_n trickle_v down_o from_o they_o and_o yet_o they_o remain_v hard_o still_o but_o now_o when_o the_o gospel_n come_v it_o do_v not_o only_o cause_v be_v a_o undertake_n by_o surety_n this_o be_v a_o deliverance_n from_o the_o law_n whereas_o the_o law_n require_v perfect_a obedience_n at_o our_o hand_n in_o our_o own_o person_n their_o law_n require_v of_o the_o soul_n that_o it_o shall_v pay_v the_o debt_n in_o its_o own_o person_n the_o soul_n that_o sin_n shall_v die_v now_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o gospel_n come_v and_o tell_v thou_o of_o a_o surety_n and_o such_o a_o surety_n as_o god_n himself_o profess_v he_o be_v well_o please_v to_o accept_v of_o and_o be_v as_o content_v with_o he_o as_o he_o be_v to_o have_v the_o debt_n pay_v by_o the_o creature_n by_o the_o debtor_n himself_o and_o this_o be_v a_o great_a ease_n will_v it_o not_o be_v a_o great_a ease_n to_o any_o of_o you_o that_o when_o a_o creditor_n shall_v come_v upon_o you_o for_o a_o debt_n layhold_n upon_o you_o or_o put_v you_o in_o prison_n and_o afterward_o the_o debt_n shall_v be_v pay_v by_o another_o and_o lay_v upon_o he_o and_o the_o creditor_n shall_v accept_v of_o he_o and_o the_o creditor_n shall_v say_v well_o will_v this_o man_n be_v your_o surety_n and_o pay_v the_o debt_n if_o so_o then_o say_v the_o creditor_n i_o be_o to_o the_o law_n that_o be_v such_o satitfaction_n as_o the_o lawgiver_n himself_o do_v accept_v of_o which_o be_v only_o in_o christ_n not_o all_o that_o i_o can_v do_v can_v possible_o do_v it_o if_o i_o can_v conceive_v that_o god_n be_v so_o merciful_a as_o to_o accept_v of_o any_o thing_n i_o can_v do_v yet_o it_o can_v not_o be_v satisfaction_n to_o the_o law_n but_o now_o our_o deliverance_n from_o the_o law_n be_v in_o a_o way_n that_o be_v satisfaction_n unto_o the_o law_n and_o here_o now_o be_v ease_n that_o the_o soul_n be_v free_v so_o as_o the_o law_n be_v satisfy_v too_o ten_o whereas_o the_o law_n require_v constant_a obedience_n and_o if_o there_o be_v obedience_n to_o the_o end_n to_o the_o last_o act_n and_o the_o last_o act_n be_v sin_n all_o the_o other_o will_v be_v forget_v so_o as_o the_o soul_n will_v yet_o perish_v notwithstanding_o and_o the_o law_n can_v not_o assure_v any_o man_n of_o continuance_n to_o the_o end_n the_o law_n can_v never_o do_v it_o can_v not_o assure_v any_o so_o long_o as_o they_o be_v under_o the_o power_n of_o it_o though_o they_o have_v ability_n to_o obey_v and_o they_o go_v on_o according_a to_o their_o ability_n go_v on_o divers_a year_n yet_o they_o can_v never_o have_v assurance_n but_o that_o they_o may_v fall_v at_o last_o and_o so_o perish_v well_o but_o now_o come_v to_o christ_n there_o be_v not_o only_a satisfaction_n for_o what_o be_v past_a but_o a_o assurance_n of_o hold_v out_o unto_o the_o end_n a_o assurance_n that_o this_o covenant_n that_o thou_o be_v now_o come_v under_o in_o christ_n that_o there_o shall_v never_o be_v any_o forfiture_n of_o it_o and_o that_o be_v a_o mighty_a ease_n and_o rest_n the_o ground_n and_o foundation_n of_o divers_a of_o these_o thing_n be_v open_v before_o when_o i_o show_v how_o in_o christ_n we_o be_v free_v from_o the_o guilt_n of_o our_o sin_n but_o now_o these_o be_v thing_n that_o do_v flow_v from_o thence_o and_o the_o present_n of_o these_o further_a show_v the_o consequence_n of_o what_o then_o be_v say_v may_v be_v further_a rest_n unto_o the_o soul_n for_o though_o i_o do_v all_o the_o other_o thing_n as_o the_o principle_n of_o they_o yet_o every_o poor_a soul_n be_v not_o able_a to_o draw_v forth_o every_o of_o these_o particular_n now_o that_o be_v the_o help_n of_o those_o that_o be_v weak_a to_o see_v the_o several_a step_n of_o god_n grace_n in_o christ_n not_o only_o to_o see_v it_o in_o the_o lump_n but_o see_v how_o it_o stream_n in_o the_o particular_n of_o it_o to_o have_v these_o present_v before_o their_o soul_n it_o be_v a_o mighty_a help_n to_o their_o faith_n and_o comfort_n and_o this_o last_o that_o i_o have_v speak_v of_o it_o be_v not_o less_o than_o the_o rest_n but_o indeed_o it_o be_v the_o complete_n of_o all_o the_o former_a that_o the_o soul_n that_o come_v to_o christ_n have_v this_o rest_n in_o christ_n that_o it_o be_v bring_v into_o a_o covenant_n and_o with_o assurance_n that_o there_o shall_v never_o be_v any_o forfiture_n of_o that_o covenant_n for_o it_o be_v a_o part_n of_o the_o covenant_n that_o god_n shall_v give_v grace_n unto_o the_o soul_n so_o as_o be_v shall_v never_o come_v to_o forfeit_v to_o loose_v the_o blessing_n of_o the_o covenant_n they_o may_v for_o the_o present_a loose_a some_o comfort_n of_o the_o covenant_n but_o to_o be_v put_v from_o the_o blessing_n of_o the_o covenant_n it_o shall_v never_o be_v it_o be_v a_o part_n of_o the_o purchase_n of_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n that_o all_o that_o come_v to_o he_o shall_v never_o be_v cast_v off_o from_o he_o again_o it_o cost_v the_o blood_n of_o christ_n and_o this_o be_v a_o privilege_n that_o believer_n have_v more_o than_o ever_o adam_n have_v adam_n be_v under_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o he_o be_v able_a to_o keep_v the_o covenant_n i_o but_o adam_n never_o have_v this_o promise_n from_o god_n that_o he_o shall_v never_o forfeit_v it_o that_o he_o shall_v never_o so_o break_v the_o covenant_n as_o to_o be_v undo_v adam_n never_o have_v that_o promise_n but_o now_o all_o believer_n that_o be_v come_v to_o christ_n they_o have_v this_o engagement_n upon_o a_o sure_a ground_n for_o it_o be_v upon_o a_o dear_a purchase_n christ_n have_v lay_v down_o his_o blood_n for_o thou_o for_o this_o thing_n as_o well_o as_o any_o other_o thing_n that_o thy_o soul_n may_v come_v into_o a_o everlasting_a covenant_n never_o to_o be_v forfeit_v and_o now_o if_o all_o these_o particular_n be_v put_v together_o and_o these_o thing_n be_v make_v clear_a to_o the_o soul_n by_o the_o eye_n of_o faith_n if_o there_o be_v a_o eye_n of_o faith_n to_o behold_v the_o reality_n of_o all_o these_o thing_n that_o i_o have_v persent_v to_o you_o i_o appeal_v to_o you_o be_v there_o not_o rest_v to_o those_o that_o come_v to_o christ_n be_v it_o not_o worth_a a_o great_a deal_n of_o pain_n to_o come_v to_o christ_n be_v there_o not_o that_o that_o will_v recompense_v all_o at_o last_o whatever_o trouble_v there_o be_v at_o first_o the_o work_n of_o humiliation_n and_o the_o like_a yet_o when_o you_o come_v to_o christ_n there_o be_v that_o that_o will_v recompense_v all_o your_o former_a trouble_n as_o i_o say_v before_o in_o the_o conclude_a of_o the_o other_o particular_a so_o may_v i_o say_v of_o this_o as_o it_o be_v in_o psalm_n 116._o and_o now_o my_o soul_n return_v unto_o thy_o rest_n so_o may_v all_o believer_n say_v upon_o good_a ground_n if_o these_o thing_n be_v true_a that_o we_o have_v now_o hear_v then_o my_o soul_n return_v unto_o thy_o rest_n for_o the_o lord_n have_v deal_v bountiful_o with_o thou_o indeed_o oh_o therefore_o be_v in_o love_n with_o the_o gospel_n study_v it_o much_o look_v unto_o the_o depth_n of_o it_o and_o prize_n jesus_n christ_n that_o have_v purchase_v such_o a_o rest_n unto_o your_o soul_n and_o you_o who_o be_v about_o come_v to_o christ_n be_v restless_a in_o your_o spirit_n till_o you_o come_v to_o have_v this_o rest_n and_o it_o be_v a_o lamentable_a thing_n that_o any_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n shall_v meet_v with_o you_o in_o the_o way_n and_o quiet_a your_o heart_n that_o any_o thing_n shall_v quiet_v your_o soul_n but_o christ_n and_o you_o that_o be_v believer_n improve_v this_o
now_o this_o be_v a_o special_a thing_n to_o be_v speak_v of_o in_o this_o point_n how_o believer_n shall_v improve_v this_o and_o what_o it_o be_v that_o they_o shall_v learn_v by_o this_o and_o how_o helpful_a this_o will_v be_v to_o they_o and_o something_o for_o the_o satisfaction_n of_o those_o that_o doubt_v that_o they_o be_v not_o believer_n but_o we_o can_v do_v all_o thing_n at_o once_o this_o shall_v suffice_v for_o the_o present_a the_o mere_a present_v to_o your_o soul_n what_o rest_v there_o be_v in_o christ_n from_o the_o load_n of_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n from_o the_o load_n that_o many_o feel_v to_o be_v upon_o their_o soul_n through_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n chap._n xxxi_o contain_v divers_a consequence_n from_o the_o rest_n believer_n have_v from_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n and_o lesson_n they_o be_v teach_v from_o thence_o to_o proceed_v now_o there_o be_v divers_a thing_n that_o follow_v from_o hence_o from_o the_o rest_n that_o we_o have_v in_o christ_n from_o the_o burden_n and_o load_n of_o the_o law_n i_o shall_v speak_v very_o brief_o of_o they_o and_o so_o pass_v to_o what_o remain_v in_o the_o next_o burden_n and_o rest_n to_o that_o from_o hence_o follow_v exceed_v help_n unto_o believer_n against_o divers_a temptation_n that_o do_v exceed_o trouble_v the_o peace_n and_o rest_n of_o their_o soul_n if_o they_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o law_n in_o those_o several_a respect_n as_o at_o large_a have_v be_v open_v to_o you_o 1._o then_o first_o from_o the_o meditation_n of_o this_o their_o delivery_n they_o may_v have_v rest_n and_o ease_n from_o this_o temptation_n that_o because_o of_o some_o imperfection_n weakness_n and_o distemper_n of_o heart_n and_o sin_n that_o they_o be_v guilty_a of_o therefore_o they_o have_v no_o interest_n at_o all_o in_o christ_n they_o have_v no_o interest_n to_o believe_v in_o christ_n because_o of_o that_o the_o strength_n of_o this_o temptation_n can_v stand_v with_o the_o right_a knowledge_n of_o christ_n as_o deliver_v from_o the_o law_n if_o christ_n deliver_v from_o the_o law_n than_o a_o interest_n in_o christ_n may_v stand_v though_o we_o be_v not_o able_a to_o keep_v the_o law_n yea_o and_o further_o we_o know_v this_o that_o it_o be_v usual_a with_o believer_n upon_o the_o breach_n of_o the_o law_n in_o any_o thing_n to_o call_v their_o estate_n into_o question_n all_o into_o question_n certain_o if_o we_o know_v that_o we_o be_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n not_o by_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n not_o to_o be_v cast_v by_o the_o law_n we_o will_v never_o be_v so_o ready_a to_o call_v all_o into_o question_n upon_o any_o breach_n of_o the_o law_n that_o our_o conscience_n tell_v we_o we_o have_v be_v guilty_a of_o 2._o further_o this_o will_v marvellous_o help_v against_o this_o temptation_n likewise_o that_o god_n accept_v not_o of_o what_o we_o do_v because_o it_o be_v not_o perfect_a because_o it_o be_v not_o complete_a when_o believer_n look_v upon_o their_o duty_n that_o they_o do_v perform_v and_o see_v so_o many_o imperfection_n in_o they_o they_o dare_v not_o tender_v they_o up_o to_o god_n god_n be_v a_o infinite_a holy_a just_a god_n and_o they_o be_v ashamed_a of_o what_o they_o have_v do_v so_o as_o they_o dare_v not_o tender_v they_o up_o to_o god_n now_o the_o right_a knowledge_n of_o our_o deliverance_n from_o the_o law_n will_v help_v we_o against_o this_o temptation_n likewise_o remember_v o_o thou_o believer_n that_o thou_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n in_o a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n thou_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o he_o in_o christ_n through_o a_o better_a covenant_n than_o the_o covenant_n of_o the_o law_n 3._o further_o this_o will_v help_v against_o this_o temptation_n also_o that_o many_o time_n be_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n that_o because_o they_o hear_v of_o divers_a that_o have_v seem_v to_o have_v more_o than_o they_o have_v that_o have_v have_v more_o ability_n than_o they_o have_v have_v have_v be_v able_a to_o do_v more_o for_o god_n than_o they_o have_v do_v yet_o for_o all_o this_o have_v fall_v away_o and_o so_o it_o may_v be_v have_v perish_v for_o ever_o now_o say_v many_o a_o poor_a christian_a if_o such_o eminent_a man_n of_o such_o excellent_a ability_n that_o be_v able_a to_o do_v such_o great_a thing_n if_o they_o that_o go_v thus_o far_o fall_v away_o what_o shall_v become_v of_o such_o a_o poor_a creature_n as_o i_o be_o now_o by_o the_o understanding_n of_o our_o deliverance_n that_o we_o have_v from_o the_o law_n by_o christ_n we_o come_v to_o have_v help_n against_o this_o temptation_n for_o let_v a_o man_n have_v never_o such_o ability_n and_o be_v able_a to_o do_v never_o so_o much_o work_v yet_o this_o man_n may_v fall_v away_o when_o one_o that_o be_v a_o thousand_o time_n weak_a in_o regard_n of_o ability_n that_o have_v the_o least_o dram_n of_o true_a faith_n which_o bring_v he_o into_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n will_v stand_v such_o a_o one_o shall_v stand_v when_o the_o other_o fall_v if_o indeed_o thy_o stand_n do_v depend_v upon_o what_o strength_n thou_o have_v in_o thyself_o than_o thou_o have_v cause_n to_o lear_a that_o see_v such_o as_o do_v stand_v fall_v away_o what_o shall_v become_v of_o thou_o but_o we_o be_v to_o know_v that_o we_o be_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n in_o a_o way_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n our_o stand_n or_o fall_v do_v not_o depend_v upon_o any_o thing_n in_o ourselves_o but_o upon_o christ_n that_o have_v undertake_v for_o all_o those_o that_o be_v his_o member_n thou_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o be_v once_o bring_v into_o the_o covenant_n that_o will_v uphold_v thou_o though_o thou_o be_v weak_a when_o thousand_o of_o other_o that_o have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o natural_a ability_n and_o common_a gift_n of_o god_n spirit_n yet_o be_v not_o bring_v under_o this_o covenant_n may_v vanish_v yea_o have_v they_o the_o strength_n of_o a_o angel_n yet_o if_o not_o bring_v under_o this_o covenant_n of_o grace_n make_v with_o believer_n in_o christ_n they_o will_v fall_v and_o come_v to_o nothing_o whenas_o the_o weak_a believer_n that_o have_v to_o do_v with_o god_n through_o christ_n and_o not_o through_o the_o law_n such_o a_o one_o shall_v stand_v and_o not_o fall_v now_o the_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o law_n in_o christ_n will_v mighty_o help_v believer_n against_o these_o temptation_n and_o divers_a other_o i_o know_v nothing_o that_o do_v help_v believer_n more_o than_o this_o in_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o law_n in_o that_o sense_n as_o have_v be_v show_v before_o likewise_o from_o hence_o there_o be_v a_o great_a many_o lesson_n to_o be_v learn_v as_o the_o first_o lesson_n first_o from_o this_o deliverance_n we_o be_v teach_v to_o entertain_v the_o hear_n of_o the_o threat_n of_o the_o law_n i_o speak_v to_o believer_n though_o other_o may_v make_v a_o ill_a use_n in_o hear_v the_o deliverance_n from_o the_o law_n yet_o they_o must_v not_o miss_v their_o portion_n i_o say_v believer_n be_v hereby_o teach_v how_o to_o receive_v the_o threat_n of_o the_o law_n you_o hear_v dreadful_a threat_n of_o the_o law_n out_o of_o god_n word_n against_o sin_n now_o how_o shall_v thou_o entertain_v these_o threat_n the_o way_n be_v this_o when_o thou_o hear_v such_o threat_n know_v that_o god_n by_o this_o will_v have_v thou_o to_o consider_v what_o his_o mercy_n be_v in_o deliver_v of_o thou_o from_o what_o thou_o have_v deserve_v god_n will_v have_v thou_o to_o consider_v what_o the_o evil_a of_o sin_n be_v in_o itself_o and_o to_o consider_v what_o christ_n have_v do_v god_n will_v have_v thou_o to_o be_v drive_v to_o christ_n by_o this_o mean_n to_o see_v thy_o need_n of_o christ_n to_o bless_v his_o name_n for_o christ_n and_o to_o prize_n christ_n who_o have_v deliver_v thou_o from_o these_o threaten_n a_o believer_n when_o he_o hear_v the_o threat_n of_o the_o law_n be_v like_o a_o man_n that_o stand_v upon_o the_o shore_n when_o there_o be_v a_o grievous_a tempest_n and_o storm_n he_o see_v the_o wave_n rise_v high_a hear_v the_o wind_n blow_v and_o the_o wave_n roar_v but_o he_o stand_v safe_a upon_o the_o haven_n indeed_o he_o be_v in_o the_o storm_n and_o tempest_n but_o god_n have_v bring_v he_o to_o the_o haven_n
