1_o inward_a sign_n as_o the_o first_o be_v the_o witness_n of_o the_o spirit_n even_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n of_o which_o st_n john_n say_v 10._o say_v 1._o job_n 5._o 10._o he_o that_o believe_v on_o spirit_n 1_o the_o witness_n of_o the_o spirit_n the_o son_n of_o god_n have_v the_o witness_n in_o himself_o now_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n be_v a_o true_a and_o infallible_a witness_n a_o witness_n that_o can_v deceive_v &_o the_o same_o spirit_n bear_v witness_n with_o our_o spirit_n that_o we_o be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n some_o may_v here_o demand_v how_o may_v i_o be_v assure_v that_o quest_n it_o be_v the_o good_a spirit_n of_o god_n which_o certify_v i_o that_o i_o be_o the_o child_n of_o god_n and_o have_v faith_n or_o that_o it_o be_v not_o a_o fancy_n or_o bare_a conjecture_n of_o my_o own_o or_o that_o it_o be_v not_o some_o delusion_n how_o shall_v i_o be_v able_a to_o discern_v between_o answ_n these_o i_o answer_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n the_o true_a witness_n do_v certify_v our_o spirit_n and_o assure_v our_o conscience_n that_o we_o have_v indeed_o true_a justify_v faith_n that_o we_o be_v the_o adopt_a son_n of_o god_n and_o shall_v certain_o be_v save_v special_o by_o these_o two_o thing_n first_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n persuade_v our_o conscience_n inward_o that_o we_o have_v faith_n upon_o good_a ground_n and_o sound_a reason_n take_v not_o from_o our_o own_o work_n or_o worthiness_n but_o from_o the_o goodness_n and_o bountifulness_n of_o god_n towards_o we_o from_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n and_o grace_n in_o christ_n and_o so_o neither_o the_o flesh_n nor_o the_o devil_n do_v persuade_v second_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n persuade_v we_o of_o the_o certainty_n of_o faith_n by_o the_o effect_n which_o it_o work_v in_o us._n as_o namely_o the_o purify_n of_o the_o heart_n purge_v out_o sin_n so_o that_o no_o sin_n have_v rule_v and_o dominion_n in_o the_o heart_n likewise_o stir_v up_o in_o our_o heart_n a_o love_n of_o god_n a_o hatred_n of_o sin_n a_o earnest_a desire_n to_o pray_v unto_o god_n and_o a_o endeavour_n to_o please_v god_n also_o a_o inward_a spiritual_a joy_n and_o peace_n of_o conscience_n etc._n etc._n all_o which_o be_v true_a effect_n and_o manifest_a fruit_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o can_v come_v either_o from_o the_o flesh_n or_o the_o devil_n and_o therefore_o the_o testimony_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v a_o true_a and_o sure_a witness_n to_o assure_v we_o that_o we_o have_v the_o true_a faith_n and_o he_o that_o believe_v on_o the_o son_n of_o god_n have_v this_o witness_n in_o himself_o the_o second_o be_v a_o inward_a feel_n of_o spiritual_a grace_n grace_n 2_o a_o feel_n of_o grace_n a_o feel_n of_o faith_n in_o a_o man_n self_n when_o a_o man_n be_v persuade_v of_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o all_o the_o promise_v contain_v therein_o and_o in_o particular_a be_v persuade_v for_o himself_o that_o his_o sin_n of_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n and_o through_o the_o merit_n of_o christ_n be_v pardon_v and_o he_o receive_v into_o favour_n with_o god_n the_o inward_a feel_n and_o perceive_v of_o this_o in_o the_o est_fw-la the_o menti_fw-la nosirae_fw-la fides_fw-la nostra_fw-la conspicua_fw-la est_fw-la heart_n be_v a_o sign_n of_o faith_n this_o be_v in_o david_n after_o that_o he_o have_v confess_v his_o sin_n unto_o god_n as_o he_o witness_v say_v 5._o say_v psal_n 32._o 5._o i_o acknowledge_v my_o sin_n unto_o thou_o and_o my_o iniquity_n have_v i_o not_o hide_v i_o say_v i_o will_v confess_v my_o transgression_n unto_o the_o
