work_n follow_v then_o by_o order_n and_o proceed_v from_o a_o good_a person_n as_o christ_n himself_o witness_v a_o evil_a tree_n do_v not_o bring_v good_a fruit_n and_o a_o good_a tree_n do_v not_o bring_v evil_a fruit_n for_o it_o be_v evident_o know_v by_o experience_n that_o the_o fruit_n do_v not_o bear_v the_o tree_n and_o that_o the_o tree_n do_v not_o grow_v in_o the_o fruit_n but_o contrariwise_o the_o tree_n do_v bear_v the_o fruit_n and_o the_o fruit_n do_v grow_v in_o the_o tree_n therefore_o as_o it_o be_v necessary_a that_o the_o tree_n be_v first_o before_o the_o fruit_n and_o that_o the_o fruit_n do_v not_o make_v the_o tree_n good_a or_o evil_n but_o contrary_o such_o as_o the_o tree_n be_v such_o be_v the_o fruit_n so_o be_v it_o necessary_a that_o the_o person_n or_o man_n himself_o be_v either_o good_a or_o bad_a first_o before_o he_o make_v a_o good_a or_o bad_a work_n and_o that_o his_o work_n make_v he_o neither_o good_a nor_o bad_a but_o the_o man_n himself_o make_v his_o own_o work_n good_a or_o bad_a semblable_a héereunto_o may_v we_o see_v in_o all_o occupation_n example_n a_o evil_a house_n or_o a_o good_a house_n do_v not_o make_v a_o evil_a of_o work_n do_v make_v the_o artificer_n good_a or_o bad_a but_o such_o as_o the_o artificer_n be_v such_o work_n make_v he_o even_o so_o fare_v it_o in_o the_o case_n of_o man_n work_n such_o as_o the_o person_n be_v either_o in_o faith_n or_o in_o unbelief_n such_o be_v his_o work_n if_o either_o do_v in_o faith_n and_o so_o good_a or_o do_v in_o unbelief_n &_o so_o evil_a but_o contrariwise_o it_o be_v not_o so_o to_o wit_n such_o as_o the_o work_n be_v such_o be_v the_o person_n make_v in_o faith_n or_o unbelief_n for_o as_o work_n do_v not_o make_v a_o man_n to_o be_v a_o believer_n so_o neither_o do_v they_o make_v a_o man_n righteous_a justify_v but_o faith_n as_o it_o make_v man_n beléeve_v and_o righteous_a so_o do_v it_o make_v his_o work_n to_o be_v good_a for_o as_o much_o therefore_o as_o work_n do_v not_o justify_v any_o man_n and_o that_o it_o behoove_v man_n to_o be_v righteous_a before_o he_o work_v any_o good_a work_n it_o appear_v most_o manifest_o that_o faith_n only_o by_o the_o mere_a mercy_n of_o god_n through_o christ_n jesus_n in_o his_o word_n do_v make_v worthy_a and_o sufficient_o justify_v and_o save_v the_o person_n and_o that_o a_o christian_a full_o replenish_v and_o make_v safe_a by_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n through_o his_o own_o faith_n even_o so_o no_o good_a work_n avail_v to_o righteousness_n and_o salvation_n to_o the_o unbelieving_a person_n on_o the_o other_o side_n work_n no_o evil_a work_n make_v he_o evil_a or_o damnable_a but_o his_o own_o unbelief_n which_o both_o make_v the_o tree_n evil_a and_o withal_o make_v the_o work_n evil_a and_o damnable_a whereupon_o in_o this_o that_o any_o person_n be_v make_v good_a or_o bad_a he_o do_v not_o receive_v this_o be_v good_a or_o bad_a by_o work_n but_o this_o his_o good_a or_o evil_n take_v beginning_n from_o the_o root_n of_o faith_n or_o unbelief_n as_o the_o wise_a man_n record_v the_o beginning_n of_o sin_n be_v to_o fall_v from_o god_n which_o be_v in_o effect_n to_o be_v unbelieving_a 11._o and_o paul_n in_o the_o 11_o to_o the_o hebrew_n it_o behoove_v he_o that_o come_v to_o god_n to_o believe_v the_o same_o also_o speak_v christ_n either_o the_o 3._o chap._n have_v indeed_o a_o utter_a show_n of_o holiness_n but_o deny_v the_o power_n thereof_o always_o learning_n but_o never_o attain_v to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o truth_n therefore_o behoove_v he_o that_o will_v not_o wander_v out_o of_o the_o way_n with_o these_o blind_a guide_n to_o enter_v into_o a_o deep_a consideration_n than_o the_o utter_a show_n of_o work_n of_o law_n &_o doctrine_n of_o work_n but_o must_v rather_o with_o a_o quite_o contrary_a aspect_n pry_v into_o the_o person_n and_o note_v diligent_o the_o reason_n whereby_o man_n be_v justify_v and_o here_o shall_v he_o find_v that_o man_n be_v justify_v and_o save_v not_o by_o work_n nor_o by_o the_o law_n but_o by_o the_o word_n of_o god_n that_o be_v to_o say_v by_o the_o promise_n of_o his_o grace_n and_o by_o faith_n that_o so_o the_o glory_n thereof_o may_v redound_v to_o the_o majesty_n of_o god_n who_o have_v save_v we_o that_o believe_v not_o by_o the_o work_n of_o for_o they_o be_v not_o now_o free_a but_o blasphemous_a to_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n who_o only_a property_n be_v through_o faith_n to_o justify_v and_o save_v which_o thing_n work_n do_v affect_v remain_v still_o in_o this_o mortal_a life_n upon_o the_o face_n of_o the_o earth_n wherein_o he_o must_v of_o very_a necessity_n nourish_v his_o own_o body_n beginning_n and_o be_v conversant_a amongst_o man_n and_o even_o here_o now_o work_n do_v begin_v to_o take_v their_o entrance_n here_o we_o may_v not_o give_v ourselves_o to_o idleness_n here_o now_o we_o must_v apply_v ourselves_o earnest_o to_o exercise_v this_o body_n with_o fast_n watch_n labour_n and_o other_o moderate_a discipline_n to_o bring_v it_o in_o subjection_n to_o the_o spirit_n that_o it_o may_v become_v obedient_a to_o faith_n and_o conform_v itself_o to_o the_o inward_a man_n &_o that_o it_o rebel_v not_o nor_o hinder_v the_o spirit_n follow_v therein_o his_o own_o natural_a inclination_n if_o it_o be_v not_o otherwise_o tame_v for_o the_o inward_a man_n be_v alike_o fashion_v unto_o god_n and_o create_v after_o the_o image_n of_o god_n through_o faith_n be_v both_o joyful_a and_o comfortable_a for_o the_o love_n he_o have_v to_o christ_n man._n in_o who_o he_o be_v endue_v with_o so_o many_o good_a thing_n whereupon_o in_o this_o only_o do_v it_o occupy_v itself_o namely_o to_o serve_v easy_o be_v conceive_v let_v we_o make_v demonstration_n thereof_o by_o similitude_n the_o work_n of_o a_o christian_a man_n be_v justify_v and_o save_v through_o his_o own_o faith_n by_o the_o mere_a and_o free_a mercy_n of_o god_n aught_o to_o be_v of_o none_o other_o value_n and_o estimation_n than_o the_o work_n of_o adam_n and_o eve_n and_o all_o their_o child_n shall_v have_v be_v in_o keep_v it_o which_o work_n have_v be_v true_o most_o free_a wrought_v in_o respect_n of_o nothing_o but_o of_o god_n good_a pleasure_n only_o and_o not_o to_o procure_v righteousness_n thereby_o wherewith_o he_o be_v full_o endue_v already_o and_o which_o also_o shall_v have_v be_v joint_o in_o the_o creation_n of_o we_o all_o to_o the_o same_o effect_n be_v the_o work_n of_o the_o faithful_a believer_n paradise_n who_o through_o his_o own_o faith_n be_v restore_v again_o into_o paradise_n and_o create_v again_o of_o new_a need_v no_o work_n to_o become_v or_o make_v just_a thereby_o but_o strength_n take_v yet_o another_o example_n example_n a_o holy_a bishop_n consecrate_v a_o church_n bishopping_n child_n or_o execute_v some_o other_o parcel_n of_o his_o function_n be_v not_o himself_o consecrate_v a_o bishop_n by_o force_n of_o those_o exercise_n nay_o rather_o unless_o he_o have_v be_v a_o consecrate_a bishop_n before_o none_o of_o all_o these_o work_n can_v have_v be_v to_o any_o purpose_n but_o account_v rather_o childish_a altogether_o foolish_a and_o apish_a even_o so_o a_o christian_a man_n be_v first_o consecrate_v by_o his_o own_o faith_n do_v work_v good_a work_n indeed_o yet_o be_v
therefore_o we_o do_v not_o reject_v good_a work_n but_o rather_o do_v most_o hearty_o embrace_v and_o teach_v they_o neither_o do_v we_o condemn_v they_o in_o respect_n of_o themselves_o but_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o wicked_a addition_n give_v unto_o they_o and_o perverse_a opinion_n conceive_v of_o they_o in_o thattayn_v of_o righteousness_n whereby_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o they_o skin_n and_o this_o leviathan_n and_o perverse_a opinion_n in_o work_n can_v possible_o be_v reclaim_v where_o pure_a faith_n want_v leviathan_n nor_o be_v removable_a from_o these_o holy_a workman_n before_o that_o faith_n the_o vanquisher_n thereof_o come_v in_o place_n and_o bear_v dominion_n in_o the_o heart_n nature_n be_v not_o of_o itself_o forcible_a enough_o to_o expel_v it_o no_o not_o so_o much_o as_o to_o take_v notice_n thereof_o but_o esteem_v it_o in_o place_n of_o a_o most_o holy_a will_n whereas_o if_o custom_n prevail_v &_o take_v deep_a root_n in_o this_o perverseness_n of_o nature_n as_o be_v already_o bring_v to_o pass_v through_o wicked_a teacher_n it_o be_v a_o incurable_a disease_n and_o lead_v astray_o innumerable_a people_n into_o destruction_n unrecoverable_a proceed_v no_o further_o even_o to_o the_o instruct_v of_o faith_n such_o doctrine_n doubtless_o be_v deceivable_a and_o devilish_a for_o even_o so_o christ_n with_o his_o belove_a john_n do_v not_o priest_n which_o can_v in_o no_o wise_n be_v commit_v to_o any_o unbeliever_n such_o a_o prerogative_n have_v christ_n obtain_v for_o we_o that_o as_o joint_a brethren_n coheir_n and_o jointking_n so_o also_o we_o shall_v be_v unto_o he_o jointpriest_n presume_v bold_o with_o confidence_n through_o the_o spirit_n of_o faith_n to_o preach_v unto_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n and_o to_o cry_v unto_o he_o abba_n father_n and_o to_o pray_v for_o each_o other_o and_o to_o do_v all_o thing_n that_o we_o see_v to_o be_v execute_v &_o figure_v by_o the_o visible_a and_o corporal_a function_n of_o the_o priest_n but_o unto_o the_o unbeliever_n nothing_o serve_v or_o work_v unto_o good_a unbeliever_n but_o he_o be_v become_v servant_n of_o all_o other_o to_o who_o all_o thing_n turn_v unto_o evil_n because_o he_o do_v wicked_o employ_v all_o his_o endeavour_v for_o his_o own_o behoof_n and_o not_o to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o by_o this_o mean_v he_o be_v neither_o priest_n but_o profane_a who_o prayer_n turn_v unto_o sin_n nor_o do_v appear_v before_o god_n because_o god_n do_v not_o hear_v sinner_n wherefore_o who_o be_v able_a to_o comprehend_v the_o pre-eminence_n of_o christian_a dignity_n which_o through_o her_o own_o kingly_a power_n execute_v dominion_n over_o all_o thing_n over_o death_n life_n sin_n etc_n etc_n and_o which_o through_o her_o priestly_a glory_n be_v able_a to_o work_v all_o thing_n in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n because_o god_n do_v bring_v to_o pass_v the_o thing_n for_o the_o which_o he_o do_v pray_v &_o wish_v as_o it_o be_v write_v he_o shall_v work_v the_o will_n of_o they_o that_o fear_v he_o &_o shall_v hear_v their_o petition_n &_o shall_v save_v they_o to_o this_o glory_n sure_o be_v no_o possible_a access_n by_o work_v but_o only_o by_o faith_n and_o belief_n by_o the_o premise_n may_v every_o man_n easy_o perceive_v
