these_o benefit_n viz._n the_o revelation_n of_o the_o mystery_n of_o his_o will_n which_o be_v amplify_v partly_o from_o the_o efficient_a cause_n thereof_o god_n free_a pleasure_n and_o this_o be_v ver_fw-la 9_o partly_o from_o the_o end_n vers_fw-la 10._o verse_n 8_o to_o return_n unto_o the_o eight_o verse_n before_o we_o can_v consider_v the_o doctrine_n it_o be_v fit_a to_o open_v the_o true_a meaning_n of_o it_o our_o book_n read_v by_o which_o grace_n he_o abound_v towards_o we_o in_o wisdom_n as_o if_o this_o be_v the_o sense_n by_o which_o grace_n he_o do_v abundant_o give_v we_o all_o wisdom_n but_o this_o be_v not_o the_o meaning_n for_o abundance_n be_v not_o to_o be_v adjoin_v to_o the_o grace_n bestow_v but_o to_o god_n grace_n bestow_v builder_n the_o scripture_n place_v wisdom_n not_o in_o know_v only_o but_o in_o do_v let_v he_o who_o be_v wise_a show_v it_o in_o conversation_n he_o that_o hear_v my_o word_n and_o do_v they_o i_o liken_v he_o to_o a_o wise_a builder_n the_o abundant_a measure_n of_o the_o gift_n be_v sufficient_o show_v by_o the_o note_n of_o quantity_n all_o wisdom_n and_o the_o phrase_n do_v not_o signify_v by_o which_o but_o in_o or_o with_o which_o for_o here_o be_v no_o particle_n to_o intimate_v any_o such_o thing_n the_o second_o case_n note_v the_o matter_n subject_n wherein_o god_n be_v here_o say_v to_o have_v abound_v the_o truth_n be_v as_o when_o we_o say_v such_o a_o one_o be_v abundant_a to_o i_o in_o his_o love_n our_o meaning_n be_v the_o love_n of_o such_o a_o one_o be_v abundant_a towards_o i_o so_o when_o he_o say_v god_n have_v abound_v towards_o we_o in_o grace_n or_o with_o grace_n his_o meaning_n be_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n have_v be_v abundant_a towards_o we_o towards_o we_o who_o have_v in_o he_o remission_n of_o sin_n in_o wisdom_n and_o understanding_n these_o must_v further_o be_v open_v wisdom_n be_v put_v sometime_o general_o thus_o s._n james_n chap._n 3._o use_v it_o for_o a_o gift_n of_o the_o mind_n give_v we_o from_o above_o which_o teach_v we_o to_o know_v and_o incline_v we_o to_o do_v that_o which_o be_v good_a and_o serve_v to_o some_o good_a purpose_n it_o be_v take_v more_o strict_o and_o then_o sometime_o it_o signify_v the_o doctrine_n of_o wisdom_n the_o doctrine_n of_o christ_n crucify_v sometime_o the_o grace_n by_o which_o we_o know_v and_o believe_v on_o christ_n to_o salvation_n even_o as_o faith_n be_v put_v sometime_o for_o the_o doctrine_n of_o faith_n sometime_o for_o the_o grace_n and_o exercise_v of_o it_o as_o now_o it_o actual_o believe_v 1_o cor._n 2._o the_o doctrine_n of_o christ_n crucify_v it_o be_v call_v the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n predestinate_v to_o our_o glory_n so_o in_o the_o first_o it_o be_v call_v the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n now_o if_o the_o doctrine_n of_o know_v &_o believe_v on_o christ_n be_v wisdom_n needs_o must_v the_o grace_n by_o which_o we_o know_v and_o rest_n on_o he_o be_v wisdom_n make_v wise_a to_o salvation_n this_o i_o take_v to_o be_v principal_o intend_v if_o not_o sole_o understanding_n be_v light_a supernatural_a of_o the_o mind_n whereby_o it_o conceive_v the_o meaning_n of_o god_n in_o his_o word_n and_o work_n and_o pierce_v into_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o thing_n of_o god_n of_o thing_n spiritual_a as_o wisdom_n be_v oppose_v to_o foolishness_n so_o understand_v to_o dulness_n and_o to_o the_o superficial_a overture_n or_o childish_a shallownes_n of_o knowledge_n be_v not_o child_n in_o understanding_n but_o in_o maliciousness_n the_o old_a which_o boast_v themselves_o of_o knowledge_n in_o the_o law_n because_o they_o do_v abide_v in_o the_o letter_n and_o not_o go_v to_o the_o inward_a meaning_n of_o it_o the_o apostle_n say_v they_o do_v not_o understand_v the_o thing_n they_o do_v speak_v of_o israel_n know_v what_o god_n have_v do_v yet_o not_o perceive_v the_o end_n to_o which_o his_o great_a work_n tend_v so_o as_o to_o follow_v and_o to_o cleave_v to_o it_o they_o be_v say_v not_o to_o have_v a_o understanding_n heart_n knowledge_n be_v a_o gift_n of_o the_o mind_n which_o perceive_v the_o truth_n and_o falsehood_n which_o be_v in_o thing_n it_o be_v oppose_v to_o ignorance_n these_o two_o former_a word_n answer_v to_o chockmah_n and_o binah_n or_o tebunah_n which_o in_o the_o hebrew_n be_v of_o like_a importance_n for_o that_o note_n of_o quantity_n all_o wisdom_n it_o do_v signify_v a_o rich_a measure_n in_o these_o thing_n not_o absolute_a perfection_n who_o enrich_v you_o with_o all_o speech_n all_o knowledge_n 1_o cor._n 1._o the_o sum_n brief_o we_o have_v find_v redemption_n in_o christ_n through_o his_o rich_a grace_n which_o he_o have_v abundant_o show_v we_o in_o as_o much_o as_o he_o have_v give_v we_o wisdom_n whereby_o we_o know_v and_o rest_n on_o christ_n salvation_n and_o understand_v which_o make_v we_o see_v into_o the_o thing_n of_o god_n yea_o both_o of_o they_o in_o plentiful_a measure_n doct._n 1_o in_o which_o word_n mark_v 3._o thing_n 1._o that_o god_n give_v pardon_n of_o sin_n to_o none_o to_o who_o he_o have_v not_o first_o give_v wisdom_n and_o understanding_n he_o do_v quit_v none_o from_o sin_n in_o christ_n who_o he_o have_v not_o teach_v to_o know_v &_o believe_v on_o his_o christ_n 1_o cor._n 1.31_o god_n do_v make_v christ_n a_o author_n of_o righteousness_n to_o none_o to_o who_o he_o be_v not_o first_o wisdom_n that_o be_v who_o do_v not_o first_o receive_v the_o gift_n of_o wisdom_n from_o christ_n act_n 26._o paul_n be_v send_v to_o bring_v man_n from_o darkness_n to_o grace_n whereby_o he_o will_v infallible_o not_o have_v fall_v god_n decree_a that_o he_o shall_v sin_v out_o of_o his_o own_o voluntary_a do_v not_o diminish_v any_o power_n he_o have_v whereby_o he_o may_v have_v stand_v if_o he_o will_v but_o do_v only_o hold_v back_o that_o grace_n which_o will_v have_v make_v he_o with_o effect_n to_o will_v that_o thing_n which_o he_o be_v otherwise_o be_v another_o argument_n 6._o that_o which_o he_o will_v that_o he_o be_v author_n of_o and_o work_v we_o distinguish_v that_o which_o he_o will_v so_o as_o to_o command_v it_o that_o he_o be_v the_o author_n of_o to_o his_o creature_n and_o that_o he_o work_v in_o he_o but_o to_o will_v the_o be_v of_o sin_n be_v to_o will_v that_o his_o creature_n shall_v of_o his_o own_o accord_n without_o his_o warrant_n do_v this_o or_o that_o argument_n 7._o he_o who_o give_v strength_n enough_o to_o avoid_v sin_n and_o forbid_v it_o on_o pain_n of_o death_n will_v not_o have_v sin_n ans_fw-fr it_o follow_v not_o but_o thus_o only_o that_o he_o will_v not_o have_v his_o creature_n sin_n so_o as_o the_o blame_n of_o it_o shall_v redound_v on_o he_o have_v he_o will_v that_o he_o shall_v not_o have_v sin_v he_o will_v have_v give_v that_o grace_n with_o which_o he_o see_v he_o will_v not_o have_v fall_v argument_n 8._o that_o be_v not_o to_o be_v yield_v which_o make_v god_n will_v a_o thing_n disagree_v with_o his_o nature_n as_o allow_v it_o for_o good_a not_o that_o which_o make_v he_o will_v it_o so_o far_o only_o that_o it_o shall_v exist_v and_o have_v be_v for_o it_o be_v good_a that_o the_o evil_n shall_v be_v which_o god_n disallow_v or_o thus_o that_o which_o have_v natural_o and_o intrinsical_o a_o positive_a contrariety_n with_o god_n nature_n that_o he_o can_v will_v such_o a_o thing_n sin_n be_v not_o for_o such_o contrariety_n can_v stand_v with_o the_o impossibility_n of_o the_o divine_a nature_n argument_n 9_o god_n decree_n take_v not_o away_o man_n liberty_n god_n do_v not_o by_o any_o outward_a force_n determine_v the_o will_n but_o as_o be_v more_o intimate_a to_o it_o than_o it_o be_v unto_o itself_o if_o man_n can_v determine_v his_o will_n &_o no_o way_n diminish_v his_o power_n to_o the_o contrary_a how_o much_o more_o shall_v god_n be_v able_a not_o to_o say_v that_o though_o man_n for_o exercise_n be_v determine_v to_o one_o yet_o while_o he_o do_v this_o out_o of_o free_a judgement_n count_v it_o such_o as_o he_o may_v do_v or_o not_o do_v he_o can_v but_o work_v most_o free_o argument_n 10._o he_o that_o be_v author_n of_o sin_n do_v not_o punish_v it_o so_o far_o forth_o or_o in_o that_o respect_n in_o which_o he_o work_v it_o again_o god_n be_v not_o say_v author_n but_o of_o such_o thing_n which_o he_o do_v both_o moral_o by_o command_n and_o physical_o by_o inward_a operation_n work_v in_o we_o they_o shall_v say_v he_o that_o punish_v sin_n will_v not_o that_o sin_n shall_v be_v which_o be_v false_a argument_n 11._o he_o who_o give_v his_o son_n to_o abolish_v sin_n he_o do_v not_o allow_v sin_n as_o good_a this_o follow_v or_o he_o will_v not_o that_o it_o shall_v still_o dwell_v in_o those_o for_o who_o his_o son_n effectual_o suffer_v but_o it_o will_v not_o follow_v that_o who_o so_o give_v his_o son_n to_o abolish_v it_o never_o will_v the_o exist_v or_o be_v of_o it_o these_o may_v be_v subordeyn_v one_o to_o the_o other_o argument_n 12._o that_o which_o god_n will_v for_o end_n that_o he_o have_v need_n of_o ans_fw-fr god_n be_v al-sufficient_a not_o need_v any_o thing_n out_o of_o himself_o nevertheless_o upon_o supposition_n that_o god_n free_o will_v have_v some_o end_n those_o thing_n be_v in_o some_o kind_a necessary_a which_o his_o will_v guide_v with_o wisdom_n choose_v and_o his_o counsel_n advise_v as_o behooveful_a to_o such_o purpose_n thus_o the_o be_v of_o sin_n may_v be_v say_v needful_a so_o far_o as_o it_o signify_v a_o matter_n advise_v by_o counsel_n and_o choose_v by_o god_n free_a pleasure_n as_o sit_v to_o such_o end_n which_o he_o propound_v the_o denial_n of_o the_o wise_a man_n be_v respective_a to_o this_o that_o sinner_n think_v there_o be_v such_o need_n of_o their_o sin_n as_o may_v excuse_v they_o in_o sin_v as_o peter_n say_v god_n be_v not_o slack_a as_o man_n count_v slackness_n so_o he_o say_v god_n need_v not_o sinner_n as_o sinful_a man_n think_v he_o to_o need_v they_o argument_n 13._o it_o be_v a_o circle_n which_o saint_n paul_n be_v not_o ashamed_a of_o god_n shut_v up_o all_o under_o sin_n that_o he_o may_v show_v mercy_n on_o all_o we_o see_v every_o day_n he_o wound_v that_o he_o may_v heal_v again_o he_o bring_v to_o the_o grave_n that_o he_o may_v raise_v up_o argument_n 14._o to_o that_o in_o james_n it_o be_v true_a first_o that_o god_n do_v not_o tempt_v any_o man_n so_o as_o man_n can_v excuse_v himself_o second_o he_o tempt_v not_o the_o creature_n to_o that_o which_o be_v sin_n unto_o his_o creature_n on_o which_o he_o do_v see_v that_o he_o will_v sin_v and_o intend_v that_o he_o shall_v sin_v according_o as_o he_o do_v see_v he_o incline_v this_o be_v not_o to_o be_v a_o author_n of_o sin_v to_o his_o creature_n but_o to_o detect_v unto_o good_a purpose_n the_o defectibility_n which_o he_o do_v see_v to_o be_v in_o his_o creature_n it_o be_v then_o deny_v that_o he_o who_o ordain_v that_o his_o creature_n shall_v fall_v or_o will_v it_o become_v a_o tempter_n of_o his_o creature_n to_o fall_v or_o sin_n against_o he_o as_o god_n will_v that_o sin_n shall_v be_v so_o he_o will_v that_o it_o shall_v be_v by_o the_o will_n of_o man_n free_o obey_v the_o seduce_a suggestion_n of_o the_o devil_n and_o pervert_v by_o accident_n such_o thing_n as_o shall_v have_v contain_v he_o in_o due_a obedience_n thus_o have_v i_o endeavour_v to_o unlose_v this_o gordian_a knot_n which_o have_v exercise_v the_o wit_n of_o the_o learn_a divine_n that_o ever_o be_v in_o a_o point_n of_o so_o great_a difficulty_n i_o presume_v not_o peremptory_o to_o define_v but_o submit_v all_o that_o i_o have_v conceive_v for_o the_o open_n of_o it_o to_o the_o judgement_n of_o the_o church_n of_o god_n verse_n 12_o now_o follow_v the_o end_n why_o we_o be_v say_v to_o have_v obtain_v a_o inheritance_n in_o christ_n in_o which_o we_o be_v to_o consider_v first_o of_o the_o person_n second_o the_o end_n itself_o the_o person_n be_v describe_v from_o the_o effect_n their_o hope_n which_o be_v amplify_v from_o the_o circumstance_n of_o time_n and_o the_o object_n about_o which_o it_o be_v occupy_v who_o hope_v in_o christ_n first_o of_o all_o that_o be_v then_o when_o as_o yet_o the_o gentile_n be_v not_o call_v to_o believe_v and_o hope_v on_o he_o which_o here_o be_v mention_v to_o their_o honour_n the_o end_n be_v that_o we_o may_v be_v to_o the_o praise_n of_o his_o glory_n that_o be_v to_o the_o set_v forth_o both_o by_o word_n and_o work_n of_o his_o it_o that_o which_o be_v sufficient_a y_o confirm_v on_o god_n part_n to_o christian_n and_o that_o who_o confirmation_n may_v be_v sufficient_o receive_v on_o christian_n part_n concern_v that_o they_o may_v infallible_o be_v assure_v but_o god_n have_v sufficient_o confirm_v it_o as_o be_v plain_a by_o his_o word_n seal_n oath_n pledge_n etc._n etc._n and_o what_o god_n offer_v or_o confirm_v so_o we_o by_o faith_n may_v receive_v it_o for_o faith_n do_v enable_v we_o suffi_fw-la ient_o to_o believe_v that_o god_n reveal_v to_o we_o now_o his_o will_n to_o save_v we_o by_o all_o the_o former_a be_v particular_o reveal_v as_o we_o shall_v show_v further_o hereafter_o that_o which_o make_v we_o unable_a to_o have_v sound_a joy_n hearty_a thankfulness_n courage_n to_o proceed_v in_o a_o godly_a course_n that_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o truth_n but_o to_o take_v away_o this_o certain_a persuasion_n of_o our_o inheritance_n do_v this_o how_o can_v i_o joy_v in_o a_o thing_n which_o i_o know_v not_o whether_o i_o shall_v have_v it_o or_o no_o i_o mean_v with_o sound_n and_o full_o rejoice_v how_o can_v i_o be_v thankful_a for_o that_o which_o i_o know_v not_o whether_o ever_o i_o shall_v get_v it_o or_o no_o how_o can_v a_o man_n have_v heart_n to_o proceed_v while_o he_o can_v know_v whether_o he_o be_v in_o a_o course_n right_n or_o wrong_n and_o can_v tell_v whether_o all_o he_o do_v will_v come_v to_o any_o thing_n yea_o or_o no_o to_o explain_v the_o truth_n more_o full_o i_o will_v open_v these_o four_o point_n 1._o what_o this_o certainty_n be_v 2._o on_o what_o ground_n it_o rise_v 3._o in_o what_o state_n the_o faithful_a attain_v it_o 4._o that_o the_o sense_n of_o it_o may_v alter_v even_o in_o those_o who_o have_v attain_v it_o 1._o this_o certainty_n be_v no_o other_o thing_n then_o the_o testimony_n of_o a_o renew_a conscience_n which_o do_v witness_n through_o the_o spirit_n that_o we_o be_v in_o state_n of_o grace_n and_o that_o we_o shall_v be_v bring_v by_o god_n to_o life_n everlasting_a i_o call_v it_o a_o testimony_n of_o the_o conscience_n for_o the_o conscience_n do_v not_o only_o show_v we_o what_o we_o be_v to_o do_v what_o state_n we_o shall_v seek_v to_o get_v into_o but_o it_o do_v witness_v &_o give_v judgement_n about_o that_o we_o have_v do_v and_o the_o state_n we_o stand_v in_o be_v it_o good_a or_o evil_n the_o conscience_n accuse_v of_o sin_n and_o witness_v to_o a_o man_n that_o he_o be_v in_o the_o state_n of_o damnation_n it_o do_v witness_v to_o a_o man_n that_o he_o be_v in_o state_n subject_a to_o god_n temporary_a displeasure_n and_o so_o likewise_o that_o a_o man_n be_v in_o such_o state_n as_o that_o god_n will_v show_v he_o favour_n for_o the_o present_a and_o bring_v he_o to_o see_v his_o promise_a salvation_n that_o it_o be_v a_o testimony_n of_o our_o spirit_n that_o be_v our_o conscience_n renew_v it_o be_v plain_a rom._n 8.16_o that_o our_o spirit_n do_v witness_v it_o through_o the_o spirit_n witness_v our_o state_n unto_o it_o be_v plain_a in_o that_o place_n also_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n do_v witness_n with_o our_o spirit_n and_o rom_n 9.2_o my_o conscience_n inheritance_n with_o christ_n it_o be_v evident_a there_o also_o nay_o when_o the_o conscience_n through_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o law_n do_v testify_v to_o a_o man_n his_o state_n in_o sin_n and_o under_o the_o curse_n it_o be_v through_o the_o spirit_n of_o bondage_n that_o it_o do_v so_o testify_v this_o be_v the_o office_n of_o god_n spirit_n to_o teach_v we_o to_o know_v the_o thing_n bestow_v on_o we_o 1_o cor._n 2.12_o to_o work_v in_o we_o not_o faith_n only_o but_o spiritual_a discern_v of_o those_o thing_n which_o be_v wrought_v in_o we_o and_o look_v towards_o we_o believe_v the_o conscience_n do_v testify_v this_o partly_o through_o faith_n believe_v it_o partly_o through_o discern_v the_o faith_n love_n obedience_n which_o be_v by_o god_n spirit_n bring_v forth_o in_o we_o 1_o john_n 4._o â—6_n we_o have_v know_v and_o believe_v the_o love_n the_o father_n bear_v us._n i_o know_v who_o i_o have_v trust_v and_o that_o he_o be_v able_a to_o keep_v my_o salvation_n
