or_o from_o notorious_a blemish_n and_o as_o the_o moon_n may_v thus_o furnish_v our_o contemplator_n with_o similitude_n to_o set_v forth_o both_o a_o virtue_n and_o a_o vice_n of_o the_o mind_n so_o may_v it_o supply_v he_o with_o a_o emblem_n of_o its_o condition_n for_o as_o the_o light_n of_o the_o moon_n be_v sometime_o increase_v and_o sometime_o in_o the_o wane_n and_o not_o only_o be_v sometime_o total_o eclipse_v but_o even_o when_o she_o be_v at_o the_o full_a be_v never_o free_a from_o dark_a spot_n so_o the_o mind_n of_o man_n nay_o even_o of_o a_o christian_a be_v but_o partly_o enlighten_v and_o partly_o in_o the_o dark_a and_o be_v sometime_o more_o and_o sometime_o less_o illustrate_v by_o the_o beam_n of_o heavenly_a light_n and_o joy_n and_o not_o alone_o now_o blemish_v by_o its_o native_a darkness_n and_o imperfection_n and_o these_o resemblance_n be_v not_o so_o appropriate_v to_o the_o mind_n of_o man_n but_o that_o they_o may_v easy_o be_v show_v to_o be_v applicable_a to_o his_o condition_n in_o point_n of_o outward_a prosperity_n and_o adversity_n and_o to_o these_o resemblance_n other_o reflection_n on_o the_o several_a adjunct_n of_o the_o moon_n may_v be_v also_o add_v together_o with_o several_a example_n of_o this_o nature_n on_o other_o subject_n be_v it_o not_o that_o i_o think_v myself_o to_o have_v spend_v time_n enough_o already_o upon_o a_o theme_n that_o fall_v but_o incidental_o under_o my_o consideration_n and_o be_v it_o not_o also_o that_o the_o reflection_n which_o may_v here_o be_v annex_v upon_o the_o attribute_n of_o other_o object_n may_v be_v more_o proper_o subjoin_v to_o what_o may_v be_v on_o another_o occasion_n present_v you_o by_o way_n of_o illustration_n of_o some_o particular_n that_o belong_v to_o the_o four_o part_n of_o the_o precedent_a section_n in_o which_o my_o haste_n and_o some_o other_o reason_n make_v i_o content_v myself_o to_o give_v some_o few_o general_a hint_n about_o such_o reflection_n and_o a_o intimation_n of_o the_o topic_n whence_o i_o be_o wont_a to_o fetch_v they_o chap._n iii_o and_o have_v give_v you_o this_o advertisement_n en_fw-fr passant_a we_o may_v now_o proceed_v a_o little_a further_o and_o add_v that_o if_o we_o suppose_v our_o contemplator_n thought_n to_o descend_v from_o heaven_n to_o earth_n the_o far_o great_a multitude_n and_o variety_n of_o object_n they_o will_v meet_v with_o here_o below_o will_v suggest_v to_o they_o much_o more_o numerous_a reflection_n but_o because_o so_o spacious_a a_o field_n for_o meditation_n as_o the_o whole_a earth_n will_v afford_v we_o too_o vast_a a_o theme_n to_o be_v attempt_v on_o this_o occasion_n we_o will_v confine_v our_o contemplator_n to_o his_o garden_n or_o rather_o to_o any_o one_o of_o the_o tree_n of_o it_o and_o take_v notice_n not_o of_o all_o the_o meditation_n he_o may_v fetch_v thence_o but_o only_o of_o four_o or_o five_o of_o the_o considerabl_a of_o those_o that_o the_o view_v it_o may_v as_o he_o walk_v by_o at_o several_a time_n supply_v he_o with_o in_o then_o in_o the_o spring_n of_o the_o year_n our_o reflector_n see_v the_o gardener_n prune_v a_o fruit-tree_n we_o may_v suppose_v he_o invite_v by_o that_o object_n to_o reason_n thus_o within_o himself_o though_o one_o that_o be_v a_o stranger_n to_o the_o art_n of_o garden_v will_v think_v that_o that_o man_n be_v a_o enemy_n to_o this_o tree_n and_o go_v about_o to_o destroy_v it_o since_o he_o fall_v upon_o and_o wound_v it_o with_o a_o sharp_a iron_n the_o church_n not_o only_o expose_v to_o the_o common_a affliction_n of_o humane_a society_n for_o that_o be_v but_o like_o our_o tree_n be_v expose_v to_o be_v weather-beaten_a by_o wind_n and_o rain_n but_o distress_v by_o such_o persecution_n as_o seem_v to_o be_v divine_a infliction_n that_o invite_v man_n to_o say_v of_o the_o body_n what_o the_o prophet_n foretold_v shall_v be_v say_v
